RIGHT. IN 3 TO 1. HI THERE EVERYONE. I'M 13 NEWS NOW METEOROLOGIST ROCHELLE PURYEAR WITH YOUR EVENING UPDATE ON TROPICAL DEPRESSION CLAUDETTE FOR JUNE 20TH. TWENTY TWENTY 1 LATEST STATS WITH THE 5:00 P.M. ADVISORY 80 MILES WEST COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA 30 MILE AN HOUR WINDS MOVING BE EAST NORTHEAST AT 17 MILES AN HOUR. SO VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE SAW FOR YESTERDAY EVENING'S UPDATE AS FAR AS THAT FORWARD MOVEMENT SPEED GOES. SO CLAUDET HAS WEAKENED SLIGHTLY BUT IS EXPECTED TO RESTRENGTHEN INTO A TROPICAL STORM BY EARLY ON MONDAY MORNING. THERE ARE SOME WARNINGS UP FOR MOST OF EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS BUT DO WANT TO TALK ABOUT CLAUDETTE'S WIND HISTORY VERY BRIEFLY. SO IT BECAME TROPICAL STORM OFFICIALLY WITH THE 5:00 P.M. ADVISORY ON SATURDAY. FORTY 5 MILE AN HOUR WINDS CONTINUE BEING A TROPICAL STORM AS WE HEAD THROUGH A GOOD PORTION OF THE DAY SATURDAY UNTIL SATURDAY EVENING WEAKENED TO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. NOW JUST WANT TO REMIND YOU THIS ENTIRE TIME UNTIL IT BECAME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AND EVEN STILL NOW IT WAS OVER LAND AND TYPICALLY TROPICAL SYSTEMS WILL LOSE STRENGTH OVER LAND OVER PRETTY QUICKLY. SO JUST THE FACT THAT THIS HAS SUSTAINED ITS STRENGTH AS A TROPICAL STORM FOR MULTIPLE HOURS OVER LAND IS JUST SOMETHING TO CONSIDER WITH CLAUDETTE NOW IT DID WEAKEN INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION EARLIER YESTERDAY. SO WE'RE CONTINUING TO WATCH IT AS A TROPICAL DEPRESSION RIGHT NOW. BUT AS I MENTIONED, IT WILL BECOME A TROPICAL STORM BY EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. IN FACT, THE 2:00 A.M. FORECAST IS THAT IT WILL BE BACK UP TO 40 MILES AN HOUR AND THEN MOVE SOMEWHERE OVER EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA OR POTENTIALLY OVER EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA SOMETIME TOMORROW MORNING AND EVENTUALLY MOVING OFFSHORE BY EARLY AFTERNOON ON MONDAY. YOU SEE IT DOES STILL STRENGTHEN FORTY 5 MILES AN HOUR ONCE AGAIN BY TOMORROW MORNING. TOMORROW'S EARLY AFTERNOON UPDATE AS IT STARTS TO MOVE BACK OVER OPEN WATERS GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE OF THAT STRENGTH STICKING WITH BEING FORTY 5 MILE AN HOUR BY EARLY ON TUESDAY MORNING. SAME ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON BUT LOSING THOSE TROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS BECOMING EXTRA TROPICAL BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. SO WATCHES WARNINGS AS MENTIONED MOST OF THE EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA COASTLINE IS UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WARNING EXCEPT FOR CURRITUCK COUNTY NOT INCLUDED IN THAT. BUT WE DO ALSO HAVE A TROPICAL STORM WATCH INTO SOME OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA COASTLINE AS WELL. SO KEEPING AN ON BOTH CAROLINAS FOR THIS SYSTEM'S EFFECT AND ALSO INTO VIRGINIA AS WELL. NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE PROBABILITY OF THOSE TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS. REMEMBER IT'S GOING TO BE MOVING OVER EAST TO A NORTH CAROLINA JUST AS IT BECOMES A TROPICAL STORM ONCE AGAIN. SO THE PROBABILITY YOU'RE SEEING IN HERE YOU HAVE 40 PERCENT IN THIS LIGHT YELLOW INTO THIS KIND OF DEEPER LIGHT ORANGE COLOR THAT'S MORE OF A 50 PERCENT CHANCE AND THEN YOU'RE STARTING TO SEE THAT CHANCE GOING UP AS THE SYSTEM EVENTUALLY MOVES BACK OVER THE OPEN WATERS. BUT YOU DO SEE THERE IS A CHANCE FOR SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND THEN ALSO INTO PARTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS WELL TO SEE SOME 40 PLUS MILE AN HOUR WINDS WHICH WOULD QUALIFY AS TROPICAL STORM FORCE. NOW THERE'S ALSO A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM NORTH CAROLINA DOWN INTO SOUTH CAROLINA AS WELL. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING AREA SOUTH OF THE ALBEMARLE SOUND DOES INCLUDE THE OUTER BANKS HIDE OUTER BANKS AND THEN ALL THOSE AREAS SOUTHWARD ALL INCLUDED IN THAT AS WELL. SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THE STORM SURGE STORM SURGE 1 TO 3 FEET EXPECTED FROM THE VIRGINIA NORTH CAROLINA LINE DOWN THROUGH CAPE LOOKOUT AND THEN CAPE LOOKOUT TO THE LITTLE RIVER INLET JUST AT THE BORDER OF BOTH NORTH CAROLINA AND SOUTH CAROLINA 1 TO 2 FEET OF STORM SURGE IS FORECAST IN THOSE AREAS AND THAT DOES INCLUDE WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA AS WELL. SO THE WIND FIELD AGAIN EXPECTED TO BECOME A TROPICAL STORM ONCE AGAIN OVER LAND AND THEN MOVING OUT TO SEA STILL WITH TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS. CLAUDETTE IS THE ONLY THING THAT WE'RE WATCHING RIGHT NOW OUT THERE IN THE TROPICS. THE ATLANTIC COMPLETELY QUIET AND I MEAN IT'S THE MIDDLE PART OF JUNE SO REALLY WE WOULDN'T EXPECT TOO MUCH ACTIVITY DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR TYPICALLY ANYWAY. SO WE'VE HONORE WE'VE HAD BILL WE STILL HAVE CLAUDET OUT THERE. DANNY ELSAH, FRED AND GRACE ARE THE NEXT 4 NAMES ON THE LIST AND JUST SPEAKING OF THE HURRICANE SEASON AS A WHOLE, HERE WE ARE AT JUNE 20TH AGAIN NOT TYPICALLY EXPECTING MUCH ACTIVITY WHETHER IT'S HURRICANES OR TROPICAL STORMS DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR. BUT YOU DO SEE A CHART GOING UP PEAKING DURING THE MIDDLE PART OF SEPTEMBER AND THEN THE SEASON OFFICIALLY ENDS NOVEMBER 30TH. BUT WE'VE SEEN THIS MULTIPLE YEARS PAST WHERE WE DO HAVE SOME STORMS OUTSIDE THAT TYPICAL JUNE 1ST TO NOVEMBER 30TH TIMEFRAME. IT'S BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS WHERE WE'VE HAD SOME STORMS FORM EARLIER THAN JUNE 1ST.
