Travel trends for 2023 with Samantha Brown

all right our next guest has been taking us on our travels around the world for more than 20 years two decades and now she's back with season six of her Emmy award-winning series Samantha Brown's places to love on PBS take a look for yourself obviously art runs through the clingit tribe yes how do you have time to be creative and have time to do your art when there's hunting and there's Gathering and there's making of fires when was there time to carve and paint and make something beautiful oh well there's a name for that it's called winter it's all winter joining us now with all the top trends and best advice for traveling in the new year is the woman behind it all the woman with the best job on the planet Samantha Brown I like the Applause I'll take all I can get okay see we mentioned you have the best job in the world um one thing that's changed in recent years I feel like is the trend towards sustainable travel can you talk about you talk about that in your new season can you talk about the big push behind that and what it really means yeah sustainable travel is the major travel Trend now because it's really born of the height of the pandemic if you remember we all became Fierce Advocates of our own local we knew that it was up to us to support restaurants shops people Charities the environment because if they didn't survive we didn't survive and now now we take that little nugget with us knowing that wherever we go no matter how far or foreign it really is just someone else's local so with places to love we're always finding those businesses the cultures even communities where sustainability that that that thinking about the bigger picture for all of us to live healthier happier lives is really baked into what they do I love that message it's so good but let's also talk to you no one knows knows the ins and outs of travel like you do and one of your biggest pieces of advice and I'm really bad at this is planning ahead is what would you say to people about planning vacations okay what's your tip this weekend just sit with a big cup of coffee right and look at your whole year just taking note like School vacations big projects that are coming up that you might want to take a a vacation to make mentally clear yourself for that project or maybe it's over and you want to celebrate take note and just put little stakes in the sand of when these things happen and start eventually just planning for the travel because if we'd let those days go by we never plan and then we don't go anywhere so it's again having that that that bigger picture of when to travel and then we'll travel and another one of your tips is to get a passport or at least update your passport yeah so this is a big one your passport people think 10 years long time no it goes by fast and your passport most of the countries we travel to need to have at least three months validity on that passport this means that when you land in a destination say Ireland Ireland's going to look at your passport and if you don't have three months from the date you arrive they're going to send you back and that doesn't it doesn't matter if you're if you're just there for seven days you need three months some countries require six months so right now where's your passport when does it expire if it expires sometimes this year make plans to renew wow that is a really good tip really quickly you've been all over the world what's your favorite place to travel to oh my gosh in the United States Santa Fe New Mexico my favorite place abroad I love I love Cambodia and Southeast Asia lucky you I know good to see you again and congratulations to you folks the new season of Samantha Brown's places to love is airing now on PBS so check it out check out your local list well hey there GMA fans Robin Roberts here thanks for checking out our YouTube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the Subscribe button right over right over here to get more of Awesome videos and content from GMA every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on GMA
