hey everybody welcome back to Furniture flipping teacher I'm Lauren and in this video we are going to be taking this dresser and giving it a new lease on life let's get into it so this piece came from trusty old Facebook Marketplace and it was listed at 125 but I ended up asking if we could get it for 100 and she said yes so we went and picked it up and it was all ready for us we uh had all the drawers out because sometimes that is actually easier to lift it and um you know make sure that it's easier to maneuver and get into the truck so we loaded it up brought it here and here we are working on it already sometimes I get super inspired by pieces of furniture and I just want to get right to them whereas other times I like sometimes you know I have an idea or I know that it's a potential good piece of furniture but I'm just not 100% sure what exactly I want to do on that piece yet uh but for this piece I was ready to dive in so some of the other pieces are going to have to wait a while when until I'm ready to tackle those so I'm just removing the hardware first so that we can go ahead and give this thing a nice clean uh so that's what I'm doing all right now all I am doing is removing the drawers because I'm going to clean in here and I want to go ahead and label these drawers because often times drawers can really only fit back in the same spot in order for it to work correctly so I just like to label them down on the bottom all right and now we clean I've got my Lily Moon Furniture prep here in my bottle and I've got the white Rags that I like to use to clean and all I'm going to do is spray it down and then wipe it back the goal is to get all of the dust and dirt off of there and make sure that we're just starting with a nice clean slate luckily this piece is not very dirty at all um even if you don't see a whole bunch of dirt and grime it's still really important to clean uh because there can be grease on it which is you know not super visible grease and oils from just our hands and our skin and it's important to get that off there because if there is that on there the paint won't adhere correctly so we need to get it off regardless if the piece looks stdy or not and although I see that the inside looks pretty clean as well there's nothing uh that's going to be hurt by me doing just a quick wipe down in there because there's probably still a little bit of dust one thing I love about that ly Moon Furniture prep PR cleaner is that there's no rinse needed it's all there's no residue that's left behind so that means we're ready to sand whenever I can save some time on a flip that is I mean that's a plus for sure so I'm getting my surf prep out and ready here um I'm going to put a 120 grit on there we're going to do some scuff sanding and then also on a couple of the drawers I think I am going to go down the raw wood cuz I got design in my head that I want to try and execute on this guy and yeah I mean we're just going to get right into it let's go [Music] [Music] say so for this dress this drawer there's some light scratching right here I think there was a dog that was like jumping kind of and scratching on this top row of this dresser when the previous owner had it and so I was a little nervous to see if it would come out because I want to sand these raw uh but this one it they came out they're not like super deep it pretty much just scratched the finish off so I'm hoping that all four are like this so that we can have this nice uh lighter wood tone and this will help me carry out my final [Music] [Music] look [Music] it's time to Prime this guy so the process has going pretty quick uh that happens when you know you don't have a ton of repairs and it's just a simple dresser like this not too many intricate areas to sand around so I'm going to be priming first before I make any repairs I know that there's going to be some areas that need to be spot filled because there's just some bigger dents and gouges but I like to see that once the primer is already on when they're super like basically superficial scratches just meaning that it's hard to tell that they're there but like I said there's a lot of dog scratches and things like that that are definitely going to need to be filled in but we're going to go ahead and Prime first and do that once it's dry primer I'm going to use is this bin Advanced synthetic shellac I used this in last week's video I still had it in my sprayer because we're doing kind of some pieces back to back so I just figured might as well use it I absolutely love the way that it's sprayed on and it really truly blocked the stains on the other dresser um even though it's a water base and sometimes you know I'm iffy about that but I mean it worked on that one so this one is really gonna put it to the test because there's this is a I think I think it's Pine and so a lot of the times Pine is going to really bleed and be yellow through um with the tanon so it's a great test for this primer let's do it I went ahead and put it already in my spray gun strained it in everything there was like I said there was a little left so I just put the rest of the can in there now I'm going to test out my spray pattern make sure we're all good to go then we'll spray the whole piece [Music] that does it for our first round of primer I'm going to let this dry overnight and then we'll come back and we'll do some spot filling first coat of primer is all dried up so um definitely can see some of the imperfections in this dresser again I knew there were some but now it's time to go ahead and get those treated so a lot of them are kind of Deep deep but some of them are not as deep but I'm just going to go ahead and use the Bondo regular formula across the whole thing and we'll just get them all filled in and then we'll sand them smooth and get ready for coat number two of primer remember with the Bondo you don't want to mix up too much at a time because it will harden pretty quickly so if you have a lot to fill it's best to kind of just make it as you go as you run out then make a little a little bit more or else you're just going to waste a lot of product all right now that I got everything all sanded down as far as the Bondo repairs go I'm going to get it back in the tent and make sure that I prime one more time to make sure we've got a completely full how do I say it a surface that's covered completely of primer we're ready for the paint coat all right I am going to do one of my favorite things and that is is mixing some colors so I am not only on a mission to earn a lot of profit this year from flipping Furniture to show you guys that it is seriously possible and can be lifechanging to flip furniture for profit but I am also on a mission for myself to kind of get rid of or use up all of the paints that I have on hand um you know Brands gift them to us but then also I love trying new products and new paint so we've just got a lot well it's okay because I love mixing colors and sometimes I might not have enough for one whole piece but if I mix them up then it's enough so I am going to be using Lily Moon paints Ivory Coast which is this one right here and then Lily Moon paints Iron Stone and these are both the opulent line and I use them on that pourover project that I did way back when so obviously that only took a small amount but I have you know substantial amounts of both of them and I know that this amount of both together will be plenty to cover this dresser so I mixed them together and I was going for kind of a neutral color a beige is and this one was a little bit too gray for me and this one was a little bit too light for me so so I was like let's mix them together and so I came away with this really pretty kind of like taupe color and so that is the color we're going to go on this dresser here and I haven't forgotten about the top four drawers we're going to be doing a paint wash and I'm probably going to do that uh just after I get this first coat of paint sprayed on so I need to mix these together and that way I have all of it together and that's all the paint that I'll need and have for both spraying and for the paint wash so let's get these mixed up if you want an exact mix I'll try it's a basically 5050 except the Iron Stone is just a tiny bit less than the Ivory Coast so slightly less than 50/50 maybe uh 6040 well no it's not even probably like 65 35 or is that even how you do it I don't even know 5545 that's what we'll call it just important to get all of it mixed in and then I'll use this to pour into my spray gun so that way I know that it's all one color and we're not going to get any lighter spots or darker spots through the spray pattern [Music] so Hardware time uh I wanted to use the original hardware for two reasons one there I love the shape of it and two there's really nothing wrong with it and I want to save some money so in order to do that I'm going to reuse this Hardware but I just don't want it to be that same color so this is a great way to use old Hardware original Hardware save the cost and still give it an update I really love to use gilding wax so I've got these silver knobs and it just doesn't go with my design it's not as trendy right now either so I like to take some gilding wax or some rubb and buff and just use a brush to update the color of the knob to something that I want that will go really well with my piece of furniture and with the color that I chose so I just like to dabble this right on and just give it a new look but still use the old Hardware once it's dry on there it's not coming off you can utilize the hardware just like you would normally use so we're going from a silver knob to a gold knob and I think that it just matches the color scheme a lot better and it gives it little bit of that Dimension so I'm going to go ahead and do the rest of these I believe there are 16 of them all righty the hardware is finished this is going to just kind of dry and I'll let the wax set up while I go and do coat number [Music] [Applause] two it's time to do the paint wash on these four drawers so I had sanded them raw earlier on when I was scuff sanding the entire thing and now I've got the mixture of paint just mixed with some water probably I don't know 75% water 25% paint and really a paint wash is just water and paint you decide how much you want to water down your paint it kind of depends on how opaque you want your end result to be but remember you can always layer it so I always like to kind of go lighter and then I can always do multiple coats if I want it to be darker then all I'm going to do is take my brush dip it in there and then paint it on it will be much more watery than just regular paint a little bit more runny you kind of want to just work quick you're going to go from side to side in One Direction all the way across making sure you're getting those edges as well and then once you've got everything covered I'm just going to take a lintree cloth and wipe back my excess that hasn't soaked in yet so what we're doing with the paint wash is sort of just eliminating any yellow tones or any orange tones that may occur once we put a top coat on it and it's also just lightening them up a tad bit to kind of help it better contrast with the paint color on the entire [Music] piece so I got the drawers back in here and the top drawers I need to go ahead and top coat since the top coat's not really I mean you know we did a paint wash so it's really watered down the top coat is not going to hold up um so I'm going to top coat it separately now this paint down here is all good it's allinone no top coat needed if you want that extra protection you can sure use another layer of top coat that's not going to hurt it uh but I like to apply the top coat either with a spray gun or with like for smaller areas I like to just use this blue sponge so I'm going to do a flat top coat just to keep it the most similar to the sheen of the piece and it's kind of like a low luster so I am just going to put a little bit on my plate here just for easier dipping with my sponge and I got my sponge just a little bit damp and then it's going to be super easy to just rub right on the top of the front of the drawer all right it's time to put the new hardware on well the old new hardware cuz it turned out really good and I think that that color is really going to compliment the whole dresser keep with the natural style but give it just a little bling that it needs also if you've got drawers that are like ins set into your piece and you have them in and then you can't get them out a good tip is to use a screwdriver just stick it into the hardware hole and pull it out like that that way you can uh get the drawer out and then another thing you could do would be like to put little tape tabs on there I find that the screwdriver is just a little bit easier for me personally I'm not so sure about the hardware I like the hardware as it is like as I did it but I don't know if it was the right choice for this piece so let me know down below what you think uh is it too much of a pop on this neutral color should I have gone black should we have gone a different color what do you think let us know all right let's go over some numbers real quick we've got the dresser itself for $100 and then the primer was actually left over from a project that I did last week and the total amount spent on that primer was $13 so I mean you know let's call it $10 for primer just to be uh conservative so that's 110 and then between the paint and the hardware gold gilding wax we spent right around $50 because we you know I used that paint on another previous project same with the gilding wax so I'm really trying to use up a lot of the products that I have on hand like I told you guys so that one I can continue to keep the price down but two I just need to get through a lot of my paint so that it doesn't go bad or just so that it's not sitting around for no reason so $160 and then give or take about $10 or $15 for like sandpaper wood filler things like that so we're all in at $175 for this piece which I think is a pretty good Buy in it's not too high and the piece is really solid wood so I think that it could go for somewhere around 7 or8 $0000 I'm really trying to just play with my market I know confidently that I could get about $500 out of it but I'm just trying to continue to up the prices to see right about that sweet spot where my market truly is and what I can confidently get out of a piece of furniture so with that being said I am going to go list this piece on Facebook Marketplace and then we'll also have it available on our online store and here in person we are actually opening up this weekend and I'm super excited to have people in the shop for the first time this year um for the pieces that we aren't having numbers in that specific video like that haven't sold by the time the video goes out we'll be updating the numbers at the end of the month so definitely stay tuned so that you can see the potential in Furniture flipping I'm not telling you guys and sharing the numbers so that I can brag to you about how much money that we're making I'm simply sharing the numbers so that you guys know what is possible if you are interested in getting started flipping Furniture to earn an extra side income we've also got a 5-day challenge coming up very soon so be on the lookout for that and thanks so much for watching I'll see you on the flip [Music] [Music] side he
