"Traits of a Mighty Man" Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr.

very grateful to God that God has raised up mighty men in our church we we we have mighty men in our church we have godly men I want to celebrate all of the men that God is raising up you know I want to talk about traits of a mighty man somebody say traits of a mighty man look at your neighbors say traits of a mighty man find a man somewhere and ask him do you have traits of a mighty man being a mighty man is not measured by how many women you've conquered it's not determined by the number of children that you have deposited around the world I wanted to talk about this because in this book of second Samuel David is coming to the end of his life he's had an incredible life I mean such phenomenal story David his head he has accomplished a lot during the course of his life I mean he has had a lot of experiences but he finds himself surrounded by what used to be a group of rejected men as a matter of fact when he had killed Goliath and David got Saul got jealous of David David ended up running away from then King Saul and he winds up in a cave with a group of rejected men the Bible says they were discontent in distress and in debt anytime you find a man discontent in distress and in debt that's a trouble brother I did but he didn't find a distress a man ate in debt man a discontentment he found a group with him Joker's hiding in the cave and he joins with them he's on the run and he's in this cave with these men and he becomes their leader but here's the story of the course of his jerk his journey he transforms these rejected men into a group of mighty men now that's a hopeful thing because that tells us ladies then no matter how jacked up your man might be he can become a mighty man okay how backwards your children might be your son the man you want to marry don't marry him till he changes over does this wait don't marry him with hopes of you changing them but I'm excited that God is and has been taking men who were once jacked up and turning their lives around and making them mighty men and the truth be told that's a lot about what our church is about is taking people who are jacked up messed up tow off from the flow up taking men who are distressed discontent in debt teaching them the Word of God and bringing transformation to their lives so that they don't stay in ejective posture whether you know it or not you're looking at about 200 men that have been transformed by the power of God standing up amen there wasn't time today were jacked up messed up toe up jacked up messed up toe up jacked up messed up Toa jacked up but they have been changed by the Bob God transformed by the pipe God redeemed by the pipe God turned around by the power of God David takes this group of men and he transforms them they become new men they become mighty men matter of fact they're called they become they become mighty men they conquer they win they they overcome they don't allow the circumstances of life to defeat them really what distinguishes a man from a boy is what you do with the with the issues that life presents you any man can run away from his challenges in life any man can blame everybody else about the drama in his life but a man rises up and dresses the challenges that he faces in life he's been doing as a matter of fact 30 of these men that are part of this once rejected group jacked up group distinguished themselves and they are called Chiefs mighty men they thirty of them's rise to the occasion thirty of them our heads and tails above and this is what this call is to this is what this message is about it is a challenge to people to men not just to not just to get involved in church not just to get involved with the things of God is it we always do that is yes is it's more than just a challenge for you to get saved and follow the Lord and this is an issue I'm we're calling out an issue and we're calling out and challenging men to rise up I believe in God that we got a few people a few men who are even want to rise above the crowd that's what this campaign is about that's what we're looking for we're looking for men to be a hundred percent three hundred visit what it how does it go again 100 100 what is it deny yourself 100 percent take up the cross 100 percent follow Christ 100 percent 100 percent in every arena of your life now we can get some guys who can do some of that 50 percent and most Joker's will will pat themselves on the back they'll break that arm patting themselves on the back when they get 20% of it done there's a Sandman we don't want you to compare yourself with yourself OOP don't compare where you are and pat yourself on the back with where you are based on where you were what you got to do is compare yourself to where God is calling you to be and so how am i comparing so the 100% that God is calling me to be and my belief in my persuasion is that God is calling some men and-and-and-and and instilling in the hearts of some men a passion and an anointing and a desire to go above and beyond the call of duty I thought at least the women would be standing up shouting and praising the Lord come on ladies I'm trying to help y'all out you know you know it's already a shortage of black men in the first place it's already tough and difficult and of the few men that we have we got some guys that are strung out on drugs some guys who don't want to have a job we have some guys who don't want to know don't know whether they want to be with a man or with a woman we got some guys they got all kinds of issues and what we're trying to do is take the small pool of men that there already is and get them filled with the power of God and get them transformed so that you can stand up and say we got some men up in our camp and so and so David David David has his group of men and and 30 of them rise above the call they're standouts and of the 33 of them stand out above the 30 and these three are called mighty men as a matter of fact what makes these men so incredible is that you read through this chapter this whole 23rd chapter of second Samuel you see men who overcame incredible odds they had some things facing toward them in life and they overcame a one guy killed eight hundred people eight hundred men in a battle by himself he's not supposed to win he's not supposed to defeat eight hundred men by herself but by herself he defeated a hundred men somebody saying that's an overcomer that's an overcomer that's an overcoming that guy and that that's what MIT caused him to stand out he defeated 800 another guy got engaged in the battle all this is it all of this in the twenty-third chapter second Samuel another guy has such a determined determination that he got into the battle and defeated the the Philistines and he fought to the bitter till the fight was over and everybody was was killed the enemy was killed and he was remaining having fought the battle in one and he was so determined that when the fight was over they had to pry his hands off his sword can you imagine such a determination that when it's over they had to they had to rip his fingers from around the sword that's a that's an incredible determination that guy was one of those who rose to the top yet another man got into the middle of a field that the Philistines tried to take him to overtake and take for themselves and fought off all of the Philistines until he defended the field these are men who the Bible calls mighty men and these three guys these three guys who did these three things and they're others and just in this chapter who did incredible things they faced with courage - circumstances that they had in life brothers you and I have to learn to to face the challenge that we have we can't run off like wimps we're not wimps we're men anybody can run off does it have trouble in their marriage any dog can leave the woman that he's with and go get another woman that that's dogs do that dogs just go from see dogs will hop on anything tell your neighbor dog for honey y'all can't handle the truth Kenya yeah they did a dog will hump or anything come on something up and helping awesome stuff you didn't know what you should I'm feeling a hump spirit over here I bought my wife and my kids been asked me for a dog for a long time four years and I kept saying no when I get no dog you say have a dog used to have a dog my kid made my older kids when they were young they want to have a dog the answer the dog got them dog and the dog ended up being their mothers their mother's dog they didn't take care of dr. Baumann took killer dog and I didn't I didn't want no dogs I knew the mom was going to take Kitty dog again so I kept saying no no no no no so finally Christmas I broke down and got them a dog now the first dog we had was a female dog that was that was drama too because I didn't know the dogs female dogs bleed I didn't know did they bleed I didn't know what I didn't know I didn't know blood all over the house and what in the world is all over this here we are putting a dipole on the dog I don't understand I see we're not gonna get no female dog I got a male dog so you're gonna have a drama with the female dog you have a dramedy male dog the drama with the male dog is the male dog comes on everything he's humping on people coming in the house he's humping on the guest Jasper is humping on everything Jasper get me the curtains alone yes get down off the Curtis but a real man don't lose my point here today I almost lost it myself a real man faces his challenge if it's a marital challenge you face it because it challenges your kids you face you don't run off and go find you a new thing come and tell you something you can run off from this one if you want the next we're gonna give you some drama to miles we'll stick with what you got and learn what you need to learn these men face their challenges they got 800 men here to fight they gotta feel over here to defend they face their challenges real men stand up and face their challenges they don't blame it on everybody else they don't blame it on their mama they don't blame it they didn't know that daddy then don't blame it they fire me from their child they don't blame it on their wife they don't blame it on the kids they a man gets down and deals put the situation's that I handed to him in life and said how am I going to solve this problem and he solves it these men are mighty men there's two traits that I want to highlight they got a lot of those but I'm going to talk about two today they had two traits that I want to highlight today and look at this I want to read this story again because because here's what they did look at verse 13 then three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time verse 13 and came to David at the cave of a deulim and this troop of Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim David was then in a stronghold and the garrison the garrison means the place where the headquarters of the army where the weapons were kept and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem and David said with a longing verse 15 oh that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate so the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David nether nevertheless he would not drink it but poured it out to the Lord and he said far be it from me O Lord that I should do this is this not the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives therefore he would not drink it this last verb phrase last words last sentence says therefore these things were done by the three mighty men they demonstrated traits of being a mighty man several of them and I just want to highlight two here's the first thing they did here's what a mighty man does a mighty man has the ability to be a discerner a discerner what's the discern of somebody who can properly perceive you see the biggest issues we have with men today is to certain discerning and determining and and realizing what situation that they're facing the truth be told men our wives know the answer to the question before we even know that there's a question to be asked our heads are so much into our own world with so much focus on ourselves we are so much into what we want that we fail to discern the circumstances and the challenges that we are facing but a real man is a discerner matter scripture scripture says that the men Abhisek our word discern is they understood the times they were men who understood what they were facing and a real man has the ability to discern he has the ability to determine that this is a problem he has the ability to say we don't need to go down that road because if we go down that road it's gonna be drama we need to go down this road he's able to determine he said that the word I maybe should use is sensitive and these men here were discerner of the request of their leader their leader made a similar request all that I could just have some water from the will by the gate in Bethlehem Bethlehem had perhaps been the place that David had grew up it was a place he had been before it was a place that he had drank from that whale there was something about the water at the gate father but from there was something about the water that was from the well by the gate in Bethlehem I don't know what it was must've been something in the water but he said I he specifically called out a particular place and said I'd like to have some water from the well that's by the gate in Bethlehem and the mighty men around and was so tuned into him so discerning of his requests that they were able to determine that this is what he wanted this is what distinguishes a great man from a mediocre man a man who is able to be discerning and sensitive to the needs of the people he serves that that's that's a significant thing because most of us brothers are so selfish so into what we want in our plans that we fail to see and discern the needs of the people around us I want to thank those 17 people for that rousing support now I'm a mighty man I am a mighty man I am a man not because I pass her a big church that's not what makes me a mighty man there's a lot of jerks pastoring big churches I'm a mighty man because God has helped to sensitize me to the needs and concerns of the people that I serve got cause there needs to my heart I'm a mighty man because I'm sensitive I'm a mighty man because I'm a discerner I'm a mighty man because I moved to meet the needs of the people that I serve I'm sensitive to my wife I'm a discerner to her needs I'm sensitive I give her I try to give her I try to do whatever it takes to make my wife happy ain't nothing ain't nothin wish about that ain't nothing but matter of fact that makes me a man come on somebody that makes me I mean I try to tell her your wish is my command I'm a discerner I try to anticipate where her needs are before she asks for them sensitive that's what a great man does a trait of a great man is to determine what the leader wants the people he served once and moved to meet that need matter that's what these guys did they discerned that David wanted some water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem they couldn't win got him some water next door they could have got it from out of there they from from the well close by but they wanted to give him the water he requested and so they did number two they were decisive so number one they were discerning number two they were decisive they made a decision they just sit around and talk about what needed to be done they didn't say I wish somebody would do it they didn't leave the assignment to somebody else to take it to be done they acted upon it themselves they moved upon it themselves they were decisive somebody says say decisive that's our problem guys win decisively we don't know how to make decisions these men acted I love this it says right here in the text I love it it says in verse 16 that these mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines drew the water from the well in Bethlehem that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David they went through a situation where they recognized their leader wanted something they were so tuned into him he just said it in passing he didn't give a command he didn't give any instructions he just said I sure like the hansel water from the from the worldís by the gate that's in Bethlehem and he moved they moved three I've got together fought through the garrison of the Philistines can't put their own lives at jeopardy do what they had to do got the water and brought it back to their leader Wow and it is such a significant statement and a significant point that the whole Edo said put that in the scriptures some of y'all will never become great in life because number one you'll need see the needs of the people that you serve you don't even care about and some of you never be great cuz you don't know how to be decisive to go ahead and make a move John Q's wife told him in the movie do something and I'm not even a movie person but I remember that line from that movie do something we leave things undone and they did it broke through the camp of the garrisons of the Philistines got the water and brought it back put their lives at risk now check this out when they got back and gave the water to David he poured it on the ground you know you know they had been his sister oh no he didn't not after Adam put my life on the line after I done went to there and fought those people and after I then when all of this way and carefully my and you dumped it on the ground oh no you did not but these men was so mighty that they did not care what David did with the water they bought it for him to do with it has he chose to do it I suppose they figured out or determined maybe if he drank it it was gonna end up in the ground anyway y'all get that in the morning some of y'all just some of y'all just a little slow just a little slow but that's that that's not what their heart was these men wanted to give their leader what he wanted and they made the decision and they did it it's as simple it's a simple thing I just want to challenge you to today brothers number one are you a discerner do you have the ability in the capacity to be sensitive to the needs of the people that you're called to serve your wife your kids your job are you a discerner and number two can you be decisive make decisions I'm much rather either respect a man who makes a wrong decision than a man that makes no decision at all some of you today you can't decide if you want to get saved or not can't decide if you want to join the church or not can't decide if you wanna get sold out or not what you don't realize your indecision is a decision the greatest decision you can ever make in life to say you know what I need forgiveness of my sins I need Jesus Christ in my life I need to be sold after him because if I try to do anything in my own might in power I'll never survive so the greatest thing you can do is get about your seed coming down here right now and say it's time for me to serve the King of Kings and the Lord of lords today's dynamic message from Pastor Jenkins is one that has the power to change your life but it can only do so if you have a heart and soul that belong to Jesus Christ perhaps you want to be able to make such a claim but you don't know how it's simple you just have to
