Traitors Stars Meryl Williams & Paul Gorton: How the Show Changed Their Lives | Good Morning Britain

I'm a faithful I am a faithful I am 100% a faithful I'm a traitor yeah oh of course it's the murder show that's gripped the nation the traitor reached its final episode tonight where the faithfuls will have one last chance of getting rid of those pesky traitor in a bid to win a massive cash prize they do it we're about to hear some hot traitor gossip from two stars of the show but let's see the moment Paul was banished from the castle we're joined obviously by Paul Gordon last year's winning faithful Merl Williams as well lovely to see you both uh firstly what's it been like Paul it's just I'm on a different planet at the moment I'm walking around people are recognizing you the show is obviously going through the roof better than what I think anyone could have ever expected and I've played a small part of that so I feel really proud of everything that I watching back it's just incredible cuz you for both of you you had to keep it a secret didn't you for however many months you well you just go back into normal life I've got a little boy partner job all that stuff so I just locked it away in a box and just thought that's great coming up but for now I need to go back to life go back to normal life and what was going back for you like Merl really hard because obviously I'd won the show and then I had to come back to working a normal 9 to5 and then have to say nothing and I've been away for a month but i' just been away and just on a holiday and then I was like oh my god I've just won this BBC show can't tell anyone and plus was the traitors hadn't been releasing no one knew yes no one knew so if you were to say oh I was on the traitors but I couldn't say what happened but with us we had no one if I said I was on the traitors no one knew what it was so it was kind of like that aspect and also it was a new concept as well I didn't know if it'd be so well received as it has so it was quite ner acting when it was coming out like what did you say Paul to your friends did you say you were going on a TV show did people know what you were doing no so I made a big mistake as well so I didn't tell anybody except for my partner and my family and work so all of the football Lads were like he's disappeared for 3 weeks and they were they were messaging my M saying is Paul okay we've not heard from him I didn't plan a seed to say oh you need to like come up with a cover story so my other half good enough maybe it runs in the family she's uh she messaged him saying he's on a work trip and he's took his work phone and he's left his personal phone at home that's why he's not cuz my WhatsApp was last seen ages ago What a wicked web you weave how was it when you got that tap on the shoulder and then you you the was it oh my God and I was so crossed at the start at Claudia because she does laps and I didn't know this so I thought when she walked past me and I the footsteps go I'm not going to be a traitor and I really wanted to be a traitor but when she came back again it wasn't a tap it was like a pinch it was like a proper here you go type of thing and it just flipped a switch in me and I just thought you're a traitor really go for it had you studied meril's series and kind of gone right if I'm a faithful this is how I'm going to play it if I'm a trace this I'm going to play had you worked scenarios through in your head yeah I really overthought the entire thing I really wanted to be a character cuz I thought if I go on to the show and if I get picked to be a traitor I want to be prepared and I want to take it to the next level so I was watching will I was watching amander I was thinking how do I combine them and then top it and become this villain and you know you'll get you put into a reality where breaking the rules is like it's common like you allow to lie them lying to people's faces how hard was that the lying isn't too bad but it's the manipulation which is the best bit just planting a seed and then having someone come oh it was you don't feel really guilty I didn't at the time when I'm watching it back I'm struggling at certain bits cuz I'm going oh my God stop speaking Paul even at the end I'm going we've got to get him out the show because it's like this villain that they need to catch me coming back after the dungeon and stuff people are like how is he still there and no one's voting and poor Johnny's going and these other people Mel do you feel like you would have been a good traitor now if I go if they listen to this I'd like to go back but if I was to go back I think i' be a traitor now but the first time I'm glad I played as a faithful cuz it was such a New Concept we didn't know whereas like you're lucky enough that you were able to watch 12 episodes of this whole new season so did you know what you were getting yourself in for that's why I look cless clueless night all the time I had no idea and every was like that's what I thing as well when people were going to game Clans I was like I don't know if you guys have been sensibly different but I have nothing to go on it was just also hard because you have no real evidence so how do you call someone out when you have no evidence and then it's hard also to argue with someone when you actually have no evidence just start going on feelings but for me I mean the look on your face obviously was amazing when you won but the look on your face when wolf was revealed as a traitor I literally dropped and then when I was laying in my bed that night I was rethinking everything I was like wait he said he was 100% of faithful wait he said he was this wait that was all lies it was real Li Li and lied and lied and lied how was it for you winning the money because how much of a difference has that made well 360 I mean I never went in the show to win I went and just have a really good experience and to see what happens and I think when you go in with something with no expectations you're often surprised um but the show has completely Chang changed my life I mean I quit my normal 9 to5 job in December after the show aired I'm now working social media kind of things and I'd love to go into TV as I said but just 360 and it's amazing even being recognized you know I walk in my dogs my dog walking clothes and someone's like oh bar from the TR like oh yes it's just so good and it's such a well-received show as well which is really really really good where's the strangest place Paul that you've been recognized so far I just wherever I am I I got papped the other day next to where I am I'm in the I look terrible so I went so the next day I went and bought a I just thought I look like you I'm have you seen you're in the papers today I don't know if you spotted this we've got a picture of it it's in the sun they've got lookalike of the week and you have made an appearance okay lookalike of the we colum someone has written to say that you look like Vincent vanov self pained portrait there I mean I can't argue against it I go very good there you are I'm at Vincent Van Gorton that's who I could be so look let's talk a little about some of those moments in there the funeral I mean the funeral it strikes me that that all of you are having such fun making the show yeah but what was that like it's the extremes of whatever feeling that you can feel if you're sad you're extremely sad if you're happy you're extremely happy and it was just Magnificent the production behind it the fact that it's Diane she gets a whole episode dedicated to her going everyone else that's murdered just you know just disappear so it was just fascinating and then to lie in the coffin was just you're in your own coffin I know that I'm absolutely safe and I'm doing a bit of an act but there is part of you that goes oh this isn't nice really chilling and CLA does slam that box on top and you kind of hear a bang and you do jump and it connects people even more because you're going through this experience together so it's fascinating truly fascinating we had your very theatrical bow didn't we yes with your unveiling was that something you'd thought oh I need to go out you know and do something no idea do something big no I had literally no idea so I I wanted to stay in character the entire time even though I knew my table was done because everyone's put my name up type of thing so as I'm walking past I've making sure I've got a sad face I'm rubbing people's shoulders you've all made a bad decision and when I did my little speech I genuinely thought this is like an unseen moment this is me done so I did kind of the bow and the room was just electric everyone was going people broke Furniture did they yeah Jazz broke a chair I hope he gets a bill for it see I love CHS what do we think is going to happen then do you think the faithfuls can do it do you know what I'm joint I'm not joint I'm between two sides because I absolutely love jazz he's one of my favorites no offense PA no you're my favorite too but he was he is one of my favorites in the sense that he's so right and I think he's got something sneaky up his like I think he knows about Harry but he's trying his best to wait out um but then on the other side I really really like Harry and Andrew but I'm hoping that Harry doesn't throw andreid under the bus so they can join when together or jazz what do you think yeah yeah I I want the traitors to win cuz then I feel like it's like the team that I was a part of like we wi and won it how it's going to shake out I have no idea but Harry does feel like he's in the driving seat and everyone's looking in every other direction possible even when someone goes oh it might be Harry no it can't be Harry how dare you think that about him and he sat there this and he's 20 so fascinating isn't it it's so confident like he is so confident I like J when I think what I was like when I was 22 I couldn't have done that you know but I think you know he's really going in I think that's where you have to be and you were really confident too it was really good and what about the future then Paul because obviously life is is sort of a bit of a chaotic craziness at the minute striding around in your traitor's cloak but what are you going to be doing next that's all I do now just um I'd love to kind of carry on in tell I'd love to present or I mean I'm just going to look at whever opportunity comes up and and grab it with both hands I guess and a looky like ageny Vincent then go is it well you know if anyone needs him to come to parties and stuff I can put some old clothes on yeah well it's been lovely to meet you thank you for keeping us entertained always love to see you as well
