I am the one who knocks that's my mission the tragic hero arguably one of the most intriguing and popular character archetypes demonstrated in some of the best films and television of all time the tragic hero is a character archetype who possesses heroic traits show her that you can do it permission to treat the witness is hostile granted hostile actually hostile but it comes to a fatal flaw in their character which ultimately well proves fatal for our Prime examples of the modern tragic hero we will look into this Show's Attack on Titan and the last of us as their protagonists are not only very similar tragic Heroes but the stories also share eerily similar concepts of the dystopian worlds attacked by human monsters serious just keep going starting with Aaron Yeager as the main protagonist in Attack on Titan when eldia's walls are breached by Titans in episode 1. Aaron's mother gets eaten devastatingly by Titan and as a result Aaron becomes enraged with a desire to kill all the Titans [Music] throughout the show as Aaron learns more about his own Titan abilities and unbelievable power he increasingly wants to protect his friends and fellow Scouts he also feels greater responsibility as he might be the only one who can effectively protect eldia jumping to the last of us when the cordyceps spread across the world Joel loses his daughter in the first episode by a soldier who is ordered to kill anyone who might be infected many years later and Joel is still alive with the ambition to do anything to find his lost brother I'm looking for my brother well I ain't seen him I haven't told you what he looks like both protagonists clearly demonstrate the tragic figure story with pity and fear as the audience we become sympathetic to these characters for the way they've lost their loved ones and we grow to respect them for their actions as well oh [ __ ] as their stories continue we see more examples that further our connection to these characters specifically their complex relationships with their loved ones [Music] you dick one thing that remains clear is that they have true passion and care for these relationships okay it's okay baby girl even if it means pushing them away for their own protection you're right you're not my daughter I'm not sure as hell ain't your dad come down we're going our separate ways [Music] these deeply rooted complex relationships continue to gain our sympathy and relatability for these characters as we see them do anything to protect these relationships I don't know any girl oh Jesus which leads them to become tragic Heroes in the case of Aaron and Joel their flaw is basically the same protect their loved ones at any means necessary their passion and loyalty blinds them from only deciding to protect their loved ones it's why many tragic stories are so fascinating because this same flaw is what makes them compelling characters and someone we root for when Aaron discovers that the nation of Marley is directly responsible for transforming aldians into Titans who have wreaked havoc on eldia he ultimately sets course on a plane to destroy the world with a rumbling so that only his fellow ldns remain alive [Music] because [Music] as for Joel when he and Ellie finally make it to the Firefly occupied Hospital in Salt Lake City Joel discovers that in order for the fireflies to manufacture a vaccine or cure they would need to kill Ellie as a result Joel goes on a murderous Rampage to save Ellie from the procedure I said unhook her I won't let you take her [Music] stories haven't ended yet but the trajectory seems quite clear and thus we can predict their outcomes thanks for watching and tell us your favorite tragic hero and why in the comments below [Music]
