TRADITIONAL vs MODERN INDIAN FOOD (Punjabi Pizza!) | Fung Bros

to kam what comes to mind when you think of Indian food probably the word curry or tikka masala right in this episode of our Beyond series we're taking it back to our hometown of Kent which actually has a large amount of Indian restaurants mostly owned by Punjabi families so we'll try some of the classic Indian dishes that we've had before but also some dishes that we've never tried this is beyond butter chicken all right guys starting off our Indian food battle listen we have everything from chicken dishes tikka masala butter chicken biriyani punjabi pizza we've got naan roti paratha appetizer samosas pani puri u pakoras y'all over the drinks look I'm a big fan of mango so I'll awesome go with a mango lassi I love how you get that tangy yogurt smoothie taste but I'm not gonna lie to not know that there are other flavors so the sugar cane one basically is like mango lassi without the mango whoa whoa whoa this one's really similar to the sugar cane one but it finishes it off with a spice oh yeah it is this like any drink that you have before it can you took me in a different direction you feel that oh but kind of sweet and then it's spicy different waves is this one tastes pretty conventional did it taste like a booger yogurt liking a traditional go-gurt also one thing I noticed never do the Indian drinks have ice you know what ancient I'll tell you this this was the most unique lassi I've had alright no I wasn't trying to try but I'm gonna wipe it with this sweatshirt it's interesting that tastes like you should put that on top of chicken spicy you gotta mention he tastes like pepper pepper lawsy be they meant salt and pepper lassies man I gotta go actually with the salt and pepper one well just because I like trying things I never tried before I would go with the sugar camp Leno's that was nice I gotta just roll with the regular mango lassi I got to agree I think when I step into a Indian restaurant just gravitate towards that that common mango lassis you can't mistake in the color see that for far away you know it's a man alive ethics lamb samosa hmm actually you like what level they cook the peas act really soft and it blends in with the meat there's not not fix a little bit like hello guys packed with flavor yup if this is just a little preview of what's ahead of us with this video I'm excited we have something interesting you guys mind I had this is called pani puri these oils look interesting puffs of all that you break into and then you fill them up with this sweet water and garbanzo bean oh looks like a little pimple so is it hollow inside it's kind of like a little arts and crafts pride little bit a little bit drastic part vodka this is an interesting way to eat an appetizer I think you just eat at one point mmm no guys pani puri really really good for something to have no meat yeah you're gonna see India food man does vegetarian food relate kicking pakora a little on the drive sorry I think there's one I'd like to try up some sauce you know what tastes clean good flaky me I like no that's awesome I'm going with the samosas oh that is a no-brainer say as an appetizer I do like the pani puri because it's like really refreshing you don't I know that's rude that I'm moving on to round 3 which is the bread section man right off the bat love coconut oh my polka dot not oh I fire I didn't even know it really tastes like like I'm a bow don't sneeze bakeries coconut known as a 5 out of 5 Oh 5 out of 5 well this is a lamb Don okay and on Wow I would say my my Indian food knowledge maybe like out of five like at best like a 1.75 yeah like you guys we gotta roll through these knives we got this is a paneer non paneer is the primary cheese at like northern Indians use in their cooking it's salty but not too overpowering me know what that reminds me of a really similar taste of feta cheese it to me it's kind of a mixture of feta and mozzarella it's not as stretchy and gooey as mozzarella but it is reserved and it definitely has a little bit more sour bite like better alright guys this is roti mmm if you can see it's a little bit more dense definitely not as fluffy mm-hmm this is made with wheat how's it gonna say it tastes more like wheat obviously compared to tonight right it tastes more healthy that's actually good I think it's cool to have kind of like a more subtle bread this is the plain paratha right here this one looks a little bit more like some regular pita bread there's something pretty special about like kind of like ripping it apart though yeah I see why people eat with the hands out it's more fun hello smoky flavor a little more toned down than the roti I would say it was all like a mix in the Queen on that Wow here we have the fry bread you know what this reminds me guys have you guys ever had a Native American fry bread oh yeah yeah poori mmm like it's not too oily it does give me that sesame balls flavor yeah I would say this is a good combination to follow the breads we had so far yeah the aloo paratha this is like a sour potato paratha special opportunity I can see that color pop yeah Remagen you taking some big ribs hey guys paratha Wow oh that tastes like it's been dipped already Wow Wow this does not need any dipping whoo that's a dish right there the dishes inside nice flavor from the potato Wow you imagine like mashed potatoes in a way this is this going with one of these cars yeah we got going with real quick guys I'm gonna tell Liu aloo paratha to really switched it up on the coconut one a few moments later regime I'm going with the coconut I can't be a tie if it's too much we got our Indian expert yeah okay that's the coconut one coconut nun versus the aloo paratha cocoa nut cocoa nut Wow all right moving on to Round four we have the chicken dishes I think we got stuff with the butter chick let's go with a buddy game what a chicken I always brush me huh no and always bonus I feel like yeah always boneless and I appreciate that you know what this is like the one dish that's gone like super mainstream you know like you could get this frozen at Trader Joe's the oh man honestly can't go wrong with butter chicken I don't know am I crazy for some duck they'll have been cool with some thigh pieces to it I always think that I always think that cuz you have chickens what do you do with the chicken thigh all right so we just got that tiki masala right here you were right the kick is on another notch oh you taste it already okay you can masala whoa it's pretty different five more spices in there I think a lot of the times I thought I was actually eating butter chicken it was probably actually tikka masala how could you be so try it with a potato we're just trying to mix and match the breads good to match with the right spices did you guys expect it to taste as different or was it less different than you expected so I can actually now I'm pretty confident they might tikka masala butter chicken radar we are gonna be moving guys yep that round was delicious actually Wow tandoor chicken is it tandoori tandoori chicken I can see one drumstick all the spices on this how do you like this is on that wow look at these pieces let me just swish it around who will win the chicken battles tandoori chicken you could taste all that char the onions the bell peppers this drumstick is very very very far is a good one you know that char burger from habit this is more char than that haha I got straight camping vibes guys moving on to our last chicken dish chicken vindaloo hello bro that is a name definitely taste those widest the lightest out of everything as far as flavor wise it almost feels like a lemon hurry to me that was nice it was easy to keep it's a spiciest - yes my tripper yeah you guys I'm actually rolling Wow with the chicken tikka masala oh if you made me eat like the whole thing I would eat the butter chicken though what we're gonna say up in you pick it for this round I got one chicken vindaloo it's second baby low stop why the tikka masala fire if there's a reason these are the top two stop playing with the people it's buddies all right now aren't you round number probably India's most famous rice dish which is the biryani so most traditionally it's made with goat and lamb and then the most popular one that's probably ordered in America is the chicken biryani I gotta ask you though are you feeling it oh is it that a thing with an Indian food the heaviness and like feeling it do you guys feel it is it is it is uh ya feel idiot this is goat biryani flavor is like this like flavors all over the meat kinda tastes like beef well I always say goat is a good measure of beef and lamb maybe if I was just gonna get one thing I wouldn't go for it but as a third option lamb biryani EE fattier wait no I can't even tell the difference or not only heaven goat the target tells me hard to tell the texture reminds me of like a shredded beef hmm readiness yeah okay this one you're gonna easily fooled me the Dillards beef I think in a wave and I don't want to speak too soon I like the goat better hey joy rocky says go I'm sorry I felt it after the lamb my commie sebelius the belly and we got a long ways to goes to assert and we still got the fire chicken biryani who wants to be that chicken biryani just give me one piece of chicken man up still don't get to choose the guys won't be rockin chicken tender chicken tender I would say the chicken almost blends in better with the rice and the other meats no I'm going with the chicken biryani it really helps that the chicken the dark meat chicken is juicy I think it just soaks in more flavor I would say for me easily the chicken biryani I agree I agree I agree I agree Andrew unanimous the goat was the most interesting I'm not saying I would eat goat meat over chicken for me I'm just gonna roll with the goat on this one but I totally understand chicken biryani is the most ordered probably the most popular biryani of them all you guys feeling all right feeling great one is little so far one thing that's kind of thing about our city Kent that we grew up in not only are there a lot of Indian nothing compares to kam oh we got the tandoor butter chicken pizza tomato but it's not like tangy yeah alright there you know what there is I think there's slight marinara pizza sauce okay in here and then you have little chopped tomatoes on top I was gonna say the tomatoes go along I'm excited for the tandoori this is the most exciting yeah almost like a hot flaming Cheadle would you say that this color of the tandoori chicken is almost something you were more expecting from the other authentic tandoori yeah I think you opened the lid in your life Wow yes guys 10 dorrar chicken pizza compared to the butter chicken pizza it's not as a creamy you taste more of a seasoned meat than you do what the butter chicken I should taste like more of the sauce more the butter chicken a lot of red onions that's the main onion that is used in Indian cuisine you know like I'm pepperoni pizzas where you might take a bite and not even get a piece of never there's chicken in every single I don't feel like this is more like a true fusion 5050 all right guys before we make our decision though we have the Cudahy chicken pizza right here right off the bat I noticed the yellow sauce underneath the toppings there are some garam masala and this garam masala is the the main yellow powder that people associate with curry but Curry's actually technically not a flavour so we think of curry always as like a certainly spice and flavor but it's not necessary - dang definitely had moments out - the pickled jalapenos on Cudahy chicken pizza mmm juicy definitely the one with the most flavor so far oh man I like this one I like this one a lot a lot going on it's almost like a colonel all right guys so with the pizza man obviously they were all good but I'm going with the Cudahy I think I got a role with the Cudahy had all the right veggies that you wanted the right flavor makes me want to try that dish now I have to almost judge off my plate and it's looking like the butter cake it's the butter chicken Wow okay and I agree with David so I mean I hate to just tie it but I gotta say the butter chicken there's a reason why a whole box for myself let me tell you this tan you hate to tie it but you know who's not mad that you tied it okay Gabe's not mad Oh Randy Johnson okay that's the number one seller I can't answer all right everybody we just finished up with the hot entrees but we wanted to throw in this section about Indian snacks partly i've never ate biscuits and tea david is this how you do it don't you make some chai literally almost looks like Kris Jenner oh no oh wow not bad I mean I guess it's a chi cookie so this is just one of those like two and 'red famous cookie flavors that you could probably find in a lot of different forms I'm gonna go ahead and give this a 4 out of 5 I mean we haven't come next up we got the halter on section Calderon is one of those og Indian brands I guess it's been around for like eight decades that's a long time let's start with the Bombay mix since I have it in my hand mild spicy blend of crisp noodles lentils and peanuts they do eat a lot of lentils in India so let's try it okay it's like some other and Asian snacks we've had before but a little bit more curry nice overarching see it's tasty you mean more gara masala curry is not a flavor I want to try the things that made how the ROM rate pancetta Rani so these look like little fried potatoes yo the punch shot neuron coming in with something I did not expect they got some raisins with some picnic sticks that was that was good I like how its sweet that one's the best one so far all right guys here we have the Khatta meetha okay light yellow I see some tumeric I want to say taste the mango powder it's bright I know powder was a thing it's kind of fruity okay here we have the cornflakes mixture this looks like some spicy see really so it has a little bit of the potatoes mixed in and let some other raisins in there dude would you say that almost I have some like chicken flavor yeah that almost tasted more like a meal all right guys coming up we have the spicy potato noodles I think this is gonna be a good one that's how the haldorádó family got rich and it was off the Buju this is the million-dollar Buju all right definitely taste like how a old spice store smells has a little bit more that like dried like don't remark your vibe but it's good all right we were moving on to the next brand India life which is doing a little bit more of like your new school like Whole Foods type Mumbai mix okay so we had the Bombay mix earlier this is the Mumbai mix say that was my favorite dal mix these kind of do look like those little wonton strips not bad it didn't really stand out to me though I could see more older people like in this one ghost host like the Chinese American crispy noodles all right guys moving on we have the spicy cheb dough this is a hot Punjabi mix so that sounds like a fire playlist on Spotify whoa okay got some potato chip he's in there yeah it was like a really healthy chex mix easily the most similar to a trail mix I like the elements but it tasted almost exactly how it looks more please China this company leads the world in making sweet savory Indian snacks Wow look at these chips actually this looks interesting yeah I've never seen enjoyed this fella flavor oh wow I would say it resembles like a Mexican snack to be honest guys all these snacks caught me off guard on how good they work all right last one lemon bath the help this was the shop owners favorite item oh this is a lemon bap nice and light he's a good snack easy to eat oh man I feel so torn between the aloo bhujiya and the under a ton okay but I'm gonna go with the aloo bhujiya okay how do I build abuja Empire they did not build a cornflake Empire I'm gonna roll with the punch at a time only one per brand so what so what we disagree no there has to be a winner it's like John riding noodles behind the camera man I tried it earlier I got say whoa for fun you know me and I'm a fry guy I love potato sticks but the bright guy with the guys thanks for watching that portion of Indian snacks back on to Indian dessert all right guys we have round seven we finished off with the hot food in the Han trays we are now on to the sweet section so this collab dream in here is like a almost like a fried donut hole you want to say yo right now I gotta say the glad Jimmy to me it almost looks like a gigantic Bobo ball collab jam in soaking in syrup dude oh that is so decadent hell yeah donut hole I've had many many many desserts in my last time these sweetest dessert I've ever had yeah I really like it i'ma go abdomen fin oh you could almost drink and stop the syrup out of this wow this is fire you're not things are double fried this might be triple frying but we're all just gonna go with ones go one thing I'll see what you pick Ritchie okay Ritchie got milk cake mama go without the carrots this is the Indian carrot K B I'm going higher shoot let me go with these little tubes here putting job' sweets whoa this is good yeah kind of want to compare it with chocolate but like grainy doing this texture is crazy you feel it almost like feeling putty it tastes like a carrot cake fudge there is a fudgy quality yeah it does taste like a white chocolate flavor he's fired up don't try the mill cake it's like a little bouncing good it's interesting take a little bit but I gotta say that um milk cake with the carrot cake haha I'm not the only thing I could finish and I'll probably eat another one is the collab German but yeah I would
