to another grocery haul. Yes, it's not Costco anymore. I have expanded my horizon. I have evolved like a Pokemon, and now we're shopping at Trader Joe's. ♪ Trader Joe's, Trader, Trader Joe's ♪ I love Trader Joe's. They keep their prices really low. Trader Joe vibes, you know. Trader Joe vibes, okay, here we go. The vibe in Trader Joe's. Just with the vibes. Oh, my vibes are bringing me over here. (relaxed jazz music) I just saw that they have
Trader Joe's scallion pancakes. That's really cool, I think
that's definitely new. And then they have a bunch of like, this is the Chinese-style pork buns. They have like all these shumai. And then right here, they have these, it's like steamed pork
ginger soup dumplings. So we're gonna try these. I'm so excited to try this.
(bell ringing) Steamed pork and ginger soup dumplings. Soup dumplings at Trader
Joe's? Yes, I will take it. So to cook this one, there are
a couple of different ways. You can just microwave it or
you can actually steam it. I really want to see how this compares to like real soup dumplings,
because look at this photo. It looks legit. Cover with lid, steam for 8 to 10 minutes, or until dumplings are fully heated. They even have instructions
on how you can eat it. It says carefully bite at the
top or side of the dumpling to release the soup into the spoon. Let the soup cool a little bit. Slurp the soup, eat the dumpling. This is what it looks like. This packaging, and actually
even how it looks like, reminds me of the Costco
dumplings that we've tried. So now I'm wondering
if it's the same thing. Can you imagine it being
from the same manufacturer, but then they just have
different branding? Okay, so while the water's boiling and I'm prepping the steamer,
I also got these right here. These are the Cha Shu Bau
Chinese-style Pork Buns. You can, there's four of them in here. They actually look so good already. And you can either microwave
it on high for 45 seconds, or you can steam it. I'm already steaming these soup dumplings. I'm going to also throw
of these into the steamer. It's a buns party. (relaxed jazz music continues) All right, ladies and gentlemen, let's start with a bun, shall we? Well, first off it's very bouncy. So, chashu in my experience, is supposed to be more of like a red meat, but I just opened this one up and it just seems like a regular pork bun. So let's bite into it. Hopefully it's really
juicy inside and savory. They definitely have the
softness of the buns down. So here we go. Oh, my God. Oh, wow. So when I first opened up the filling, it kind of looked like just
like a savory pork bun, but it's actually chashu. It's a sweet pork flavor. Only thing is the color inside
doesn't look like chashu bun. Usually they're like a bright red color, but it tastes like it. I'm very surprised. It's kind of all very mushy inside. There's some parts of it
where you can actually taste like little shreds of pork, but otherwise the flavor
of chashu is there. A nice sweet glaze and
the bun is really soft. Not bad, not bad at all. These tastes like the
frozen ones I can buy from the Asian grocery market. Pretty on par with it, actually. Pleasantly surprised to
find that at Trader Joe's, tastes very good. All right, the soup dumplings. Doesn't really look like
the photo on the box. The dough looks really thick, but let's see how it tastes like. I'm gonna dip it into a little
soy sauce with some vinegar. Mmm, very soupy. Wow, oh, that's very good. The dough is very soft. Obviously not like the glide apart type of softness at restaurants. Has a little bit of a chew to it. The inside, the meat, very savory. The ginger flavor, just
like coats your mouth. When you bite into it, you can taste that soup squirting out. And then you taste the savory meat and the dough kind of falls apart. It's actually very good. Oh, my goodness. Okay, Trader Joe's. The fact that this is sold at Trader Joe's and it has a very authentic taste to it, that's very, very nice. They didn't try to
like, make it less sweet or make it less savory or
less soupy or whatever. Actually tastes pretty legit. Right over here we have the beef pho. It looks super interesting. I wonder if it's like the Costco one, it looks like it has
like extra stuff in it. Pho, at Trader Joe's. This world that we live
in, what a blessing. You can just get whatever
you want at whatever market. So, the packaging looks pretty good. Obviously it doesn't look
like authentic pho already. I know they try to put some
like mint and jalapenos and beansprouts, and
they're like, "That's pho." But the beef looks really dry here. And the noodles doesn't look
like the thin pho noodles that I usually like, but don't knock it till you try it, right? Not tiny or anything, good size. Let's see what it looks like. Let's uncover it, ready? (TJ singing) (TJ laughing) The ice just like splattered at me. That's what it looks like. There we go. Oh my goodness. You can smell that they put some seasoning and stuff in here. It smells like, yeah, it
smells like the aromatics when you make pho. You can literally like
pop out this giant pho. Five to six minutes. And then we're gonna
serve it for one to two. (upbeat music) Um, okay, (laughing), so... Oh my gosh, that's a big
chunk of ice just all melted, and here it is. I'm actually very
impressed because usually you have to pour water in it, but that whole chunk
just melted into this, what looks kind of good,
but also kind of like, "Man, that doesn't look good." It's a little combo both,
you know what I mean? So let's go ahead and just,
shall we try the soup first? All right, here we go. It's not good. It's not terrible. It's almost not good. It's very watery. Okay, that sip tastes a lot better. Let's taste these noodles, okay. That is a violation. Oh, hell no. (TJ laughing) What the...? They taste like little straws. No, no, away, away. Not today, wow. They taste, the noodles taste
like little plastic tubes. Not good. Tastes super under cooked. I know that if I put it
in for another minute, then it will get too soggy. It doesn't taste good at all. It's got like a very plastic almost and also like straw
flavor to it, not good. Let's try the beef. The beef is bearable. The noodle, what the even heck? Oh, now some of the pieces are too soggy. But after tasting the beef and the noodle, I would say the soup is
the best part of this item. Don't get it. Just go to a Vietnamese
restaurant and order pho. Okay, just skip that one. Hmm, I gotta get this
taste out of my mouth. Oh, pain. I always feel bad when
something's not good. And I'm like, "Let me just
taste it one more time. "Let me just give it one more chance." Don't give it another chance, okay? It's like bad relationships, just don't. It's over, it's over. It was nasty, don't go back to it. Don't be reminded of how nasty it was. Wow, that was triggering. That pho, triggering. Okay, next item. Right next to the fried rice, There's a bunch of like chicken teriyaki, beef broccoli, kung pao chicken. But what caught my eyes was over here, they had the Korean style beef short ribs. You know, the ones you
get at Korean barbecue? They look so good, so let's try it. And it's like almost running
out too, so here we go. Korean barbecue.
(bell dinging) This is so crazy, I'm
genuinely shocked, wow. So there we go. Look how good it looks on the packaging. Let's figure out how to prep this. We need to thaw it first. Submerge this in cold
water for 10 to 15 minutes. And then you can cook
immediately after thawing. Do not refreeze, okay Wow, it looks legit. Holy smokes, look at that. All right, if I thaw this, I
have to eat the whole thing. I'll give it to my neighbors. Put over medium high heat and grill until the meat is golden brown. All right, let's try this. (meat sizzling)
(relaxing music) They look so good, oh my gosh. Korean barbecue restaurant? No, just my kitchen. Oh my gosh, it looks so legit. Look at it. I was a little afraid
that like the marinade wouldn't coat it all nicely, but my gosh, it looks so juicy and nicely coated. Oh man, let's bite into it. I'm so excited. Mmm, mmm. So good I gotta drop it low. I'm always getting the ribs whenever I go to K-Town here in Manhattan. And for a little order of maybe like, I would say three of them cut,
it's about like 16 to $20. Sometimes they can even
be $35 for an order. I know it sounds crazy. It's very expensive here. But that tastes like a lot of them. It's nicely marinated, it's super tender. Nice and juicy. The marinade's got a nice
sweetness, it's savory. Got that like beautiful soy sauce coating. It's so good. And I just made it from my pan. Obviously you can grill
it, but just from the pan, the results, oh my gosh. And the way it's like
sparkling and glistening. Gonna pair it with some kimchi. I have some lettuce. It's a party. Got piece of the meat. I got some kimchi and
a little lettuce boat that I put into a wrap like this. Here we go, here we go. That's delicious, woo. That was fantastic. That was really, really good. Like 10 out of 10. I feel like I just went to H Mart and then bought marinaded galbi. So, the marinade is soy
sauce, water, brown sugar, rice wine, sesame oil, garlic, lemon juice, and black pepper. Really simple marinade, so delicious. Go get them ladies and gentlemen. If you guys don't have

of the dipping sauce that they gave in the package. It looks like a watery hoisin sauce. All right, got a little
bit of a stick to it. That is real hot, but very good. Definitely super heavy on the batter side. But like some people like
that there's more crispy parts to it than the shrimp. The shrimp is just like, it's just kinda, it's kinda a little bit in there, but the crisp on the outer layer, wow. Mmm, oh yeah. So hot, I should have waited. Those were so good. I think the tempura you
get at Japanese restaurant have more of a lighter crisp. Does that make sense? Like this? When you crisp into it, it's got a bit more of a crunch. It's like a crispy crunch,
but really, really good. Like, wow, very impressed. I mean, the shrimp inside
is just tiny, it's whatever. But I feel like you eat

but like, it smells like it. (TJ laughing) Okay, these wontons
look like very adorable. Decent sizes, looks like
there's lots of filling. It's not bad. It's very cozy. It tastes more like a vegetable broth because it's a lot sweeter. Yeah, so it tastes more
like a vegetable broth than it does the chicken broth, but good. Let's try the wontons. The soup is not bad at all. Well, good. All right, let's try this wonton. Here we go. The wontons are not good. The inside kind of tastes rubbery, and it's not like a savory
nice chew or anything. It's a very questionable chew. The dough of the wantons,
very soft, very nice. But the filling, woo. Oh, such a shame Trader Joe's. Why you do me like this? I wanted it to be good. This is okay. It's like here below okay. I wouldn't get it. I didn't like it at all. The second wonton I
had tasted much better. It tasted like real chicken. But on that first wonton, I was thinking "What the heck was going in my mouth?" You know, it was a little rubbery. It didn't have like the
savory taste of meat. Save your money, don't buy that one. I'm not sure if it's more
entertaining when something's good or when something's not good. It sure ain't entertaining my mouth, okay. (TJ hissing) I'm gonna hiss at this wonton,

of Asian rice crackers. You know what I mean? That's what they taste like. It's like very crispy and there's a super strong rice flavor. Obviously, it's from the glutinous rice. It's not sweet, very lightly salted. They truly are very
crispy and very crunchy. They did not lie there. I will say after just eating three, my mouth is already so dry. So this is like, I think
this would be a good maybe drunchies type of food. Would I buy it again? Probably not. Not bad, gets very, very dry. Basically Asian rice crackers, but they changed up the
shape and cute packaging. If you guys actually do
like the taste of those, I'd actually recommend going
to like an Asian market and getting one of those variety packs where you get rice crackers

of you who don't eat spicy. Very flavorful, yeah. The big concern about
the texture of that rice, but that actually tasted
like I just whipped up a fresh kimchi fried rice here and added some bulgogi pieces. The only thing I don't
like is the beans in it, but I guess it adds a nice crunch. And it's just probably
easier to freeze the beans. Beef has a nice chew. Super flavorful, beef has a nice chew. Even the little kimchi
pieces here and there have a little bit of crunch. It's nice when you take
it all in one bite. 'Cause you get like the
softness of the rice and the savoriness of the
beef and also this light sweet and just a little bit
spiciness of the kimchi. All very good and so easy to make. Although I will say if

dumpling, those are so good. Coming from a dumpling fanatic, those are actually quite good. I don't know what it is about them. I'm very curious to see what
makes this shrimp gyoza, like what Thai flavors they put in here. So let's make it. Nice dumpling shape, decent size actually. They're not like too tiny, they're like decent dumpling size. The interesting thing about these is they're actually already a
little pan fried on the bottom. Like look at this one, right? I've actually never seen that before. Oh look, they're all already
pan fried on the bottom. Okay, let's make it. (gyoza sizzling) The fact that the dough was
already a little bit fried beforehand meant that
when you're cooking it just be careful because
it can brown super easily. But it does give this
very nice, beautiful, crisp on most of them. So I think they did it just to ensure that like people actually get
that nice crisp on the bottom. Have you guys ever had
Chinese chive pockets? The inside filling tastes just like that. So, very strong chive taste. It's all very mushy inside. Every so often you'll get like a little chew from the shrimp inside. And then there's also
vermicelli noodles in there. But definitely most of what you
taste are the chives inside. The filling is just like
much mushier than I prefer. It's actually growing on me. I really like chive pockets and the filling tastes just like that. I don't know if I would say these are like Thai shrimp dumplings,
but they're pretty good. They're just quite mushy inside, so if you're somebody who actually likes a chew to their dumplings,
you might not like these. Although I would say all
the Trader Joe's dumplings, the fillings have always been
kind of on the mushier side. Verdict, not bad. They make it really easy to
get that nice crispy bottom. The filling, very mushy
but super flavorful, lots of great chive flavors. Hmm, can even taste a little
bit of spice from the ginger. So it's like ginger and
spice, a lot of those flavors. So if you don't like the kick from that or the taste of chives,
you will not like this. I don't know if I would buy these again. If I go back to Trader Joe's, I would definitely buy
the normal dumpling packs, like the pork with the
chicken and cabbage one or the pork one. I feel like
these would have been amazing if they'd done shrimp and pork, because then the pork
can give the dumpling more of like structure and fullness. It's not bad, it's just, again,
lots of that chive flavor. I've been on a Thai food,
like, obsession lately, Little like shrimp and pork
shumais, like the appetizers, oh, so good. Nothing can beat actual Thai
