Toyota's Worst NASCAR Cup Series Season

let's go to Adam in Newnan Georgia Adam you're on go ahead hey guys uh 10 years old and I think I under look at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series that's completely dominated by Toyota it's almost no point in watching it because you know Toyota is going to win every single week no matter what uh how long do you think this is going to take until the next hell Cup Series gets the same uh deal going on gentlemen well it's like Robin was saying during a commercial break when I go get Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick and people like that to run their teams that you know I don't think Michael Waltrip Bill Davis and you know an upstart Red Bull team with the answer uh no doubt about it when International car makers come they come trying to dominate not just to compete whenever a brand new manufacturer joins the Nascar Cup Series it's a massive deal but when it's a widely known brand like Toyota it's 10 times that at this point the Nascar Cup Series had Chevy Ford and Dodge so adding a fourth manufacturer was going to bring a new level of competition or so we thought the three teams they were entering with weren't the most competitive but at the end of the day they were good enough teams to help lift their program off the ground some of y'all weren't old enough to witness this season and have only seen Toyota dominate but as you're about to see that wasn't always the case this is Toyota's worst Nascar Cup series season the way we're gonna do this is going over each team individually we're gonna go in order from the best performing to the worst performing we're gonna start off with the oldest team in Bill Davis racing who had already had a history with Toyota in the truck series Dave Blaney would finish the highest in points with one top five and four top tens 31st is where he finished in points that says it all right there oh gosh that's right they had the second team the 360 36 Jeremy Mayfield raced for them part-time and they wouldn't even last the whole season that's the yellow cat car he gets forced into the pit Lane here's what I don't think he realizes he's got a flat right front tire 150 miles an hour Blaney is trying to scrub off speed and just nowhere for Ken Schrader the 21 car to go turn four got a car around Dave Blaney into the wall now Blaney has been Toyota's brightest hope in this young season he's been the best running camera at Daytona and California um hard to say what happened there he certainly uh got sent up the hill I don't know if he did own his owner with help [Music] oh you know trying to get on Pit Road Carl Edwards got rear-ended and here comes yalie poor yaley give it to the 36 of Jeremy Mayfield watch this this is incredible in the grass I got on the track and you know what really caused that he was trying to stay off that car that was on the outside of him Jeremy Mayfield comes down to the inside of the racetrack and to pit Rod that looks like an engine problem NASCAR observers and officials report the track is clear boy that car started bouncing up the racetrack didn't look like for you yeah the 16 car looked like it just started hopping in the front and started creeping up the racetrack and got into the left rear of Dave Blaney a hard crash just occurring Ward burden and that's Dave Blaney foreign [Music] at least Blaney got a pole at New Hampshire but as for the rest of the season nah eight dnfs and three dnqs with an average finish of 26.9 as for Jeremy Mayfield he scored no top tens had four dnfs in a 30 second place average finish but get this he dnq'd for 18 races the only reason they're listed part-time is because they decute for more races then starts 17. Red Bull Racing was the brand new and exciting team on the Block the well-known energy drink brand had already spent years in Formula One and now we're going to give NASCAR a try with both Brian Vickers and AJ almendinger almendinger was coming from the cart series and this was going to be a major learning curve while Brian Vickers was coming from Hendrick Motorsport he went on to have the best season for Red Bull scoring one top five and five top tens but for a first-year team with a first year manufacturer it was definitely gonna be a struggle gosh that's what went to move up and the hole was not there he got two at once he got the 83 from the back and the double zero from the front almost looked like his father was telling him that the inside but he or he needed to go the inside I believe there goes he came off for it looked like he might have made contact with the wall and bounced out straighter something happened and hooked him 99 Knox 84 out of the way AJ Allmendinger that's what actually brought the caution out and somebody hits the brakes and so on and so on and the fifth car back is in the crash well that's about what happened to Vickers boy Brian figure is having a good run well I don't you call it one way I'll call it the other I call it it looked like Jeff Green's car took off up the racetrack this is the ugly part Jimmy Johnson's trying to get by these guys gets into the 0-1 have a chain reaction here yeah it looks like Jimmy just gave the 0-1 a shot lunged them forward into the back of the 84 car and they both spin out and Jimmy drives on by them caution flag for the second time of day this is the 84 of albendinger who had already been slowing and he had been on and off right-sided yeah his problems are continuing here because of the damage earlier probably cut a right front tire my turn in the center of the corner as AJ Allmendinger brings out the caution and hits the inside wall guys and man that was a big hit I mean he come flying down and hit the inside of that wall he's tore that Red Bull car to Smithereens right there hey here we go yeah he's gonna say must have been a chain reaction thing because that was a late spin by the 83. yeah and as a driver Andy you see all this smoke coming and when the Smoke's coming you start checking up Vickers finished 38th and points after T and queuing for 13 races had an average finish of 25th but also had five dnfs all men dinger's learning curve was steep finishing 43rd and points after making only 17 starts meaning he dnq'd for 19 races scoring an average finish of 31st but oddly only dnf'd twice so at least he was finishing a lot of the races he started it wasn't a total disaster and speaking of total disasters we have Michael Walter bracing oh boy the cars definitely look great without a doubt but that's where a lot of the positives end David rudeman Dale Jarrett Michael Waltrip this driver lineup combined for two top tens and they were all scored by Mikey but because of a major penalty and dnqing for 11 straight races Mikey had negative 27 points until June Michael Waltrip a two-time Daytona 500 winner almost went from driving in today's race to watching it on Fox while trying to qualify his Toyota NASCAR upon further inspection punished him for using an illegal substance believed to be found in jet fuel foreign [Music] you're inside David rudiman's car it's just all over the place in there oh there it goes [Music] [Applause] that's that's such a shame second lap same as the first and for the third week in a row Michael Waltrip will head to the house [Music] for the entrance to turn one they was kind of moving down trying to close the door I think it what he would like for a mat to have realized was there's a car in front of me I can't go anywhere the best running Toyota his UPS Camry was in 21st but that wheel was his right rear wheel it came off in turn number two boy Mike I mean we could see that the there was absolutely no wheel studs there the wheel just comes off in the in our lug nuts or winning lug nuts on the wheel on a qualifying run and I thought well then there's where he had oh no for Pete's sake brother that is a hard lift another tough day for Michael who has made only the Daytona 500 this season 963 and get right past that green line at 20. no he's in on the apron bad news guys he got in on the apron so Michael Waltrip racing crashes two and gets one in the race rudeman goes home now in the back straight let's see what happened here I heard the spotter Say Something Blue it must have been it was that left front tire looks like and boy just took what did I get an oil line yeah that's what the spotter said it looked like it blew an engine and that's the reason he said that because that tire blew out and probably sheared an oil line off the oil pump or something on the engine and that's what made all this fire but he thought that maybe it might go away and it didn't for a big explosion on the left front tire oil lines everything's on fire David rudiment heavy damage on the front of his car it's like Jeff Gordon just got in the side of Jeremy Mayfield shot up the track shot up the track got loose and spun and they all started taking invasive action Dale Jarrett wow hard impact he's in it the standings ended with David rudiman finishing 39th Dale Jarrett finishing 41st and Mikey finishing 44. rudiman dnq'd 10 times Dale Jarrett dnq'd 12 times but Mikey dnq'd a whopping 19 times their combined average finish was 29.2 making them without a doubt the worst Toyota team in 2007. Toyota's inaugural season was in the books and now it was time to take the next step like wind tunnel predicted foreign manufacturers come in to dominate eventually Joe Gibbs made the switch Kyle Busch won their first ever Cup race at Atlanta in 2008 and as they say the rest is history as of this upload they sit fifth on the all-time manufacturer's win list with 175 pretty much since 2008 they have been either dominant or at the very least good you have to give major credit to those three original teams that helped build this program from the ground up Bill Davis racing seized operations after 2008 but at least in their final year they won a truck Championship Red Bull Racing eventually found their wings scoring 10 poles and two victories with Brian Vickers and Casey Kane which also includes a 2009 Chase for the cup appearance but after the 2011 season the team would cease operations eventually Michael Walter bracing became the best of the three scoring seven victories with its best seasons coming in 2012 and 2013 but that marked the beginning of the end the cheating scandal and Napa eventually leaving as a sponsor was too much for the team to handle and just two years later the team ceased operations after 2015. in conclusion Toyota has turned itself into a Powerhouse in NASCAR lover hate him at least they're into Motorsports as much as they are and invest Mill Millions into the sport younger fans only know them for being one of the top manufacturers but for fans around my age at least we got to witness Toyota's worst Nascar Cup series season and once again that'll do it for another video thank you guys so much for watching this is black flag's matter catch you next time
