we've already explored the munster's main floor today we're going to explore the rest of the home hi i'm marina coates welcome to behind the scenes where we get up close and personal with all your favorite tv and movie homes on today's episode we'll be exploring the upstairs of the munster's home including all of the bedrooms and we'll also explore grandpa's dungeon and the place spot hung out at under the stairs and even this mystery room and boy do i have some surprises in store for you today let's get started the monsters lived in mockingbird heights but we were never told which state that was in their home was surprisingly large it measures in at six thousand and thirty square feet and that doesn't even include the dungeon and spots room under the stairs which would add about 2100 more square feet let's first take a peek at grandpa's bedroom it was shown as being here however this spot was also used as a guest bedroom at one point so maybe when guests came over to spend the night grandpa would leave his room and just hang out in the rafters you'll notice that when the script called for a scene in grandpa's room they just sort of recycled eddie's room notice the exact same patches in the walls in the same places the same sconces the same opening to the balcony and much of the same furniture but grandpa had some unique features in his room as well while we often see grandpa just hanging around the house in his own room he preferred to rest on a small marble tomb-like bed let's take a tour of grandpa's room before we move on to maryland's after we've seen all the bedrooms we'll walk the halls [Music] upstairs [Music] marilyn's room was situated here in the hallway right across from grandpa's room the interior of marilyn's room was only shown in two episodes and it changed drastically between the two i chose to model the one from the later episode because we got to see much more of her room in that one in this version marilyn the least spooky member of the family played by pat priest has a balcony on this side and we catch a glimpse of a closet door behind herman's head in this scene which would place the closet here also notice the beautiful entrance into her room with all of the detailing i love how the props gives us some hints into marilyn's personality we see a lot of books a study area and a makeup table and my favorite prop a framed photo of the family a year ago i was able to take a tour of the monster home where it sits on the old studio lot the exterior has changed a lot but you can still see this balcony from which maryland calls for help in the man from maryland i got to go inside of the home and look out of that very window and to my surprise right there sitting across the street what did i see the cleaver home from leave it to beaver which by the way you can also find a tour of on this same youtube channel interestingly in the episode where marilyn leaned out her balcony window in reality it would have actually been on the side of the home towards the back the balcony she was looking out of was where we are shown grandpa's room to be let's take a tour of marilyn's room now in color [Music] [Music] [Music] now on to eddie's room it was across the hallway from herman and lilly's room there was a flap at the bottom of his door almost like a doggie door through which his parents would speak to him at times eddie's room definitely had some fun things going on in it we see a mangled up cage inhabited by two alligators that seemingly could easily escape through the bars but my favorite part of the room are the steps we see right here eddie and herman had a couple monster to sun talks on these very stairs at least once we hear a creaking sound just before he comes down these stairs suggesting something at the top that he must open to come out of i chose to make it a coffin i also noticed a little funeral parlor curtain to the right of the steps in this shot so i took it from there eddie loved hiding in enclosed spaces like the kitchen cupboards for instance and there's a well-known picture of him sleeping in a chest of drawers but it was obviously not taken in his own room and of course we know eddie had a doll named woof there is a facebook group called the official munsters fan group that describes itself as this the official butch patrick approved munsters fan group butch patrick of course is the actor who portrayed eddie butch contributes to the page on a very regular basis and uses it as a tool to interact with his loyal fans and as a plus you get regular announcements about where he will be appearing next now let's tour eddie's room [Music] next up is the master bedroom of herman and lilly munster played by yvonne de carlo and fred quinn and trust me it's everything we would hope for ancient wallpaper torn in spots a huge haunting canopy bed and my personal favorite a balcony they can hang out on at night it appears to be this balcony shown on the front of the home although it's not exactly possible since their bedroom is on the second floor along with the others that we've just seen true there are two steps up to the balcony but not enough to account for the placement that was shown on the exterior but i don't care i can suspend belief a little for this wonderful balcony in one episode when herman faints in their room we get to see a door on the fourth wall a wall we're never fully shown so perhaps herman and lily each had their own closet and lily has her makeup vanity here throughout the series herman was constantly breaking things mirrors doors windows you name it can you imagine the monstrous repair bills budget conscious lilly could not have been very happy let's take a tour of their bedroom now before we walk the halls [Music] [Music] a few interesting things in the hallway before we take a walk down the corridor marilyn has her hope chest at one end of the hall and at the other end there was a door that was shown at different times as either a bathroom or as a guest bedroom but perhaps most interesting hallway feature is the night in his not so shining armor by the way that section of the wall can spin around allowing for some fun escapes and now we'll walk these halls with the doors open so you can really get a feel of the whole layout up here then it's on to grandpa's dungeon [Music] the door to grandpa's dungeon can be found here in the living room we often see the characters enter and exit there but we never got to see this the view on the way down so here's what it would feel like to slowly descend into the dungeon from the living room [Music] when i started to model this home i couldn't wait to figure out how the dungeon might connect to the area under the stairs which is of course where we would often find spot since people often came up out of those stairs at different times carrying things such as picnic baskets i reasoned that they probably weren't just coming back from feeding spot but instead had entered through the dungeon and then exited through the stairs there's definitely evidence to support this look how well the dungeon lines up with the area under the stairs with plenty of room left over for spots special quarters they of course wouldn't want spot to be able to gain access to the dungeon just imagine the damage he would have done but there could be a hallway connecting the two areas that's too narrow for spot to get through we'll roam over there in a minute for now let's explore the dungeon what kid didn't love grandpa's dungeon wasn't it one of the coolest parts of the munster home at the bottom of the stairs we find a small curtain but because the stairs curved so tightly we couldn't see much behind it it does leave an interesting space back there though i decided to uncover it for you so you can see the space for yourself next to that is a small room that we never got an entire view of on the show but that will change with my tour coming up and then beside that room is the area we're probably most familiar with where grandpa mixed his mysterious and unpredictable potions and where he kept his crystal ball on the other side of the stairs is another small room this one we got a pretty good view of on a couple of occasions but it was often the distance aways today you'll get a close-up and then there was grandpa's wall of electrical gadgets and levers oh how grandpa loved his dungeon now we're going to tour the dungeon and then head over through the hallway to spots room which also leads to the stairs after that i have two surprises for you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] while we often saw glimpses of spot traipsing through the home and yard more often than not he made his grand and fiery appearance from under the stairs as you'll remember the stairs were opened by moving this gargoyle we frequently saw grandpa and herman coming up out of these stairs want to see what it would look like to come up from the bottom of those stairs yourself well here's your chance but look out for spots so you don't get scorched [Music] my last little surprise is letting you tour a room that we never got to see the inside of on the show this room right here in one episode we see marilyn and grandpa exiting but we don't even get a little glimpse inside the room would have been rather large it could have been a ballroom but i didn't think that quite fit the munster's style so instead i turned it into a library but the type of library that i could picture the munsters using let's tour that library now [Music] [Music] a big shout out to the set designers speaking purely as a fan as a child i was fascinated by this spooky home because it had all of the typical haunted house features that a kid loves but unlike the haunted houses i saw in most of the scary movies this one felt safe so i got to explore a haunted house with all of its mysterious nooks and crannies but without the fear but as an adult creating the home on my computer i discovered surprisingly the incredible beauty of the home itself this home has great bones in case you missed it in part one i take us on a tour of the main home stripped clean of all the spooky creepy stuff and in color so you can get a feel for the great design elements in this home and if you love the actual design of the tv and movie homes i create in these episodes you might also like another show i have on this channel called cinematically inspired design where we take the design secrets from the cinema and bring them into our own homes there's a reason you fall in love with movie homes here is where you'll find out why on our next episode we'll begin to explore the amazing magical world of hogwarts starting at platform nine and three quarters rushing right through to the train station where we'll board the hogwarts express after arriving at the castle we'll enter the banquet hall floating candles and all and then on to the gryffindor commons room this will be a series as in the future we will be exploring other parts of harry's world along the way subscribe so you don't miss a single home below you'll see a link to the art giveaway mentioned in my parent trap home
