[Music] foreign we are at the Museum of Modern Art guys one of New York City's top museums this is a big one folks popular popular Museum I waited 20 I mean I paid 25 for the adult admission and I waited online for maybe uh five minutes you could buy your tickets online and save time but uh I wanted to ask questions about special uh Galleries and stuff so uh I waited about five minutes online for the ticket and uh and yeah let's be on our way this place is huge I'm on the fifth floor we're gonna start from the top today guys I want to start from the top I'm here for mostly the paintings and stuff like that you got a nice little guide near every elevator there's a guide so you know where you're going it's a big Museum this is one of those skyscraper museums so you got six floors of content here so I'm in the The Collection Gallery section 1880s to 1940s so I'm excited let's go first stop is obviously going to be here where the original starry night is displayed Vincent Van Gogh's most popular painting as you can see it's drawing quite a crowd you know this painting here is probably uh the main draw for most people most people would pay admission to enter this Museum just to see this original Van Gogh here which is one of the most famous paintings in the world not maybe maybe not my favorite painting myself but I do appreciate it for sure and it's really really exciting to see the original right here before me if you're into Pablo Picasso there's a lot of Picasso displayed here and you know some painters you you've grown appreciation for them um over time sometimes you need to see a dozen of their works of their artworks before you start to find ones that you enjoy and some Picasso paintings don't really do anything for me but some apparently do and they are quite striking huge Gallery here we immense Picasso Gallery here at the moment probably one of the main attractions of the museum I mean this one here has just completely blown me away Blown Away by by this one here I mean just incredible incredible it's the girl with the mandolin painted in 1910 Royal on canvas Museum acquired it in 1979. all right here we have the Carl Smith Rutledge Gallery German paint the famous German painter this was painted in 1912 this one was really striking contrast of colors shapes the faces in the uh in this rather abstract and really beautiful various Ratliff paintings here displayed as well as Kandinsky lady in a park by August Mackey German artist 1914. the museum acquired it in 56. love the colors on that one here's more root Loof more root loaf paintings here's another one from kirkner wow all right here we have a very popular one painting by Paula motherson Becker German painter called the it's a self-portrait painted this she painted this when she was pregnant the flowers signify fertility and the reason one of the reasons why it's famous is it's some you know it's a nice painting and all very emotive but uh she painted this while she was about to give birth and she died shortly after giving birth and this was her last painting so it's uh it's very uh a lot of people gravitate towards this one because of that reason that no expression in Germany and Austria in the years before World War World War One artist in Germany and Austria developed a provocative new approach based on high-pitched color and jarring distortions of form depressionism emerged in several distinct artistic centers mostly in and around Germany including Vienna Munich uh this is a really interesting um Gallery here personal expression emotional authenticity is what impulsed these artists you know those were the impulses of these artists here [Music] you know sometimes you gotta look at something like a second time to really this thing oh my goodness hey it's pretty it's pretty I think it sure is but talk about making something out of nothing okay I'm I'm about to enter the David gesian wing I gotta say guys I'm really impressed by this Museum [Music] foreign cool thing about this museum is the views guys they got these beautiful observation areas launch Windows get a good view of the city I'm a bit afraid of heights but uh pretty nice this Gallery consists of works from three German artists who served in the German military after World War II during World War II and afterward they developed these Works which are very cynical the themes are very cynical after the war they basically looked at everything through a war impacted lens and they cast a cold eye on on their country on Germany this one here is from Max Beckman it's a painting that depicts the nightmare of social disintegration after World War One in Berlin painting here uses fragmented views compressed Interiors contorted bodies to convey chaos and claustrophobia wow some pretty amazing stuff another one by Max Beckman amazing portrait of a family picture seems like everyone has their hands to their face they're reading the newspapers and everyone seems miserable hey Timeless if you ask me one is liable to put their hand to their face after watching a little bit of today today's news right it could be worse it could be shortly after World War one just like the setting for this painting here were bad in Germany back then painted in 1920. wow painter is remedios Vato Spanish painter titled the magician here we have a popular one by Francis Bacon British born painted in 1946. it's a pretty dark one created in the aftermath of World War II supposedly this painting was an accident and the artist initially set out to paint a bird descending onto a field wow I guess she was having a bad day that day I really like this one painted in 1934. I really like it very bright and crisp I love the night scenes as someone myself who photographed the Brooklyn Bridge countless of times I'm totally Smitten by this one just the lines of the cables contrast the Woolworth Building in the background just a few people on a bridge I should say sketched by Lewis loser week no one knows where he was born I'm not born in uh looting vinca can't pronounce that died in South Orange New Jersey 1930. here we have the famous Campbell Soup collection by Andy Warhol now on fourth floor guys this is more of a Modern Display there's some weird being displayed in this place I must say but these here are called action paintings it's not really my thing I usually paint it on the floor the artists basically just uh puts his canvas on the ground and uh creates these abstracts if they're your thing you're going to like this area well they're not really my thing a lot of people love this stuff she was born in 1945 and she created this maybe not even a month ago 2022 thinking of you I mean me I mean you no it's more of a display of philosophy and and message but it is autistic after all you can see you can see the way the words are shaped gives the impression that you're looking at you're reading this text through a magnifying glass or a Looking Glass but it's actually the way the words are positioned and angled and shaped that gives that illusion here's the message by the artist thinking of you I mean me I mean you covering covering the various surfaces of the atrium's walls and floor and boldly designed text which new commission engages ideas of power and agency as well as the self-absorption voyeurism and brutality found in many aspects of contemporary culture Barbara Kruger conceived the installation with the atrium's multiple entry points I'm viewing perspectives in mind which obviously pertains to the writing on the floor which can only be seen from above visitors are encouraged to walk on the vinyl floor and as well as the upper levels Kruger explores connections between architecture and political Authority while drawing attention to the viewer's position in space and in society more broadly and the only way to read this stuff on the floor is true up there so I'm gonna try to get up there [Music] if you want to read what's on the wall just pause the video here guys and give it a read and here we have it from above guys getting a little dizzy I don't really like heights too much again guys here's another example of this Museum's amazing observation areas you can get some nice views of the city I just can't get too close to the edge guys where I start to spin it's starting to get dizzy but uh man I must say this museum is probably the best when it comes to photo opportunities still images and still imagery so luckily I got my cam with me there's a look at the sculpture garden on the bottom floor which I'm going to probably end where I'll end my visit it's fascinating guys movie here charge the workplace of Architects it shows you how it unveils the vast unseen network of Labor that goes into the design of buildings and skyscrapers and uh any any buildings that make up our Urban fabric it's a documentary called The Architects and it's nothing more than just a video of Architects at work in small scale Studios hope that it will start again because uh pretty interesting I love architecture if you love architecture the third floor is going to be the floor for you guys so uh totally recommend this this spot right here and it's fascinating to see how these architects work that helicopter again man how did they fit in that thing could you imagine flying through the air in that little thing right there I don't I can't even stare two floors down without getting dizzy really nice painting here by Palmer Hayden 1941 called a Subway I'd rather pay twenty dollars to park the cot and cram into that little tin can but it's a beautiful painting very emotive Expressions on the characters very unique variety of characters as well on this train here people reading newspapers lots of color nice contrast nice here we have some more same artist Palmer Hayden group of people staring out of a tenement window in Harlem Maria Motors all done with watercolor okay so I'm two hours in into my visit here at the MoMA Museum of Modern Art it may not be my favorite museum but it's a great museum if you love paintings it truly is uh it doesn't have the artifacts like you would find at the Met for the Brooklyn Museum but it's a great museum if you love paintings it truly there's a lot of quirky stuff here like some guy or girl decided to cut their hair and save it and preserve it in this artistic medium here Susan Fitzsimmons the artist of this centerpiece [Music] um people make things with everything leftover underwear foreign centerpiece made of little glass bugs guys they got a starry night Lego set only Lego fans out there 170 bucks we gotta give you guys a look at the MoMA store they got a lot of uh duplicates and replicas of the their famous paintings and they go for about fifty dollars each I guess it depends on the size well that about sums up my visit had a great time spent a little over two hours walking through this place and I I think I've covered everything uh you never know but uh it's not the biggest Museum on Earth it's not the met so I think two hours might be good might be good enough I hope you guys enjoyed this tour I was a little disappointed that they took the Edward Hopper painting out I was really looking forward to seeing the Edward Hopper painting full gas uh Edward Hopper one of my favorites they took it out two months ago bad timing what can I say but so uh not my favorite museum but a very unique museum at that totally recommend visiting the little pricey 25 for an adult uh but they're constantly changing their Galleries and shifting them around and uh you get new stuff every month or so every two months anyways I'm gonna go get a bite to eat guys that was the moment I hope you enjoyed it take care folks
