have you ever wanted to use Foundry of ATT while lying comfortably on your couch with your iPad or other touchscreen device in hand or maybe just chilling out in bed or maybe you have a touch screen monitor or TV in the middle of your table while you're playing in person and you want that touch screen support well I'm here to tell you that that is possible with one simple module let me show you how it works hi my name is fondue I run this channel called Dice and easy where I give you Foundry vtt tutorials ttrpg tips and tricks and daily ttrpg memes as YouTube shorts so if any of that stuff interests you hit that subscribe button down there so you see my content now let's get some disclaimers out of the way before we get started firstly I'm using Foundry vtt version 10 the latest stable release so all of the information pertained is going to be related to that version secondly it's very important to note that Foundry of ATT has not been designed for touch screens and small screens and because of that some of the UI elements here are going to be either small or kind of cramped or might get cut off and this is just a result of Foundry being a desktop application first and foremost then if you're going to be using a touch screen device I recommend something with a big touchscreen like an iPad and in this tutorial I'm going to be using my iPad Mini right here alright so the module that you're going to need for this is called touch vtt I'm going to leave a link to it down in the description below so you can easily find it for installation purposes so like I said Foundry vtt does not have touch screen support built into Foundry core nor is it designed around touch screens but this module will give you touch screen support however it is important to know that this module has not been updated in about a year or so so there might be some compatibility issues that you run into or other weirdness but based on my quick testing of the module it was working fine for me and Foundry was running okay but your mileage may vary depending on the device that you use and the other modules that you have installed although someone just recently this week actually made a pull request for some changes to bring Foundry version 10 support now a pull request essentially means that hey I've made some changes to the code base and I would like them to be included in this official module however I don't know if these are going to be accepted and when that might be that depends on the actual module developer noticing it and looking into it so you know keep this in mind that this module is a little old and you might have some issues first of course as always remember to go to manage modules in your Foundry setup and turn on the module because otherwise it's not going to work you might easily forget to do this after you've installed the module so remember it's turned on with that out of the way let's jump into Foundry and I will be showing you how this module Works alright we're now inside Foundry and I am using my iPad here to use found what you're seeing right now is recorded from my iPad so as you notice first off it's really jittery it is incredibly jittery and janky at least on an iPad Mini the one that I'm using there is a way to fix this so this is what I recommend that you do we go to game settings configure settings go to touch vtt and there's the zoom slash pan gestures change that from zoom and pan with two fingers to zoom with two fingers pan with three fingers and save and now you're going to notice you can zoom nicely with two fingers and with three fingers it moves it's a little bit jittery still but nowhere near as bad as we what we just saw so from what I can tell when it's zoom and pan on the same two finger setup it tries to zoom and pan at the same time which causes that jitteriness but then when you split to two and three fingers it's a bit smoother so I recommend that you do this from the get-go and something that you probably just noticed is that the game paused thing is kind currently on the screen and unfortunately if you are using this as a game master you cannot unpause the game on your touchscreen device and as such I would recommend that the game master does not use a touchscreen they use the typical desktop setup but players can use this so with that out of the way let me actually switch to my player user so I can show you the basic controls unrelated question here by the way I've been thinking I should run a tabletop RPG campaign through something like start playing dot games for a fee of some sorts would you be interested in that would you be interested in playing with me in some campaign I've been thinking city of mist Pathfinder and a bunch of other settings that I really really want to try if you're interested in that comment down there alright then so the basic controls are very simple and when you're using this on a touchscreen they should be quite intuitive first of all you pinch with two fingers to zoom around as you can see and then three fingers is panning so you drag with three fingers and that pans around as I said it's a little bit jittery because of the zoom thing but it's mostly all right then if you want to move your token very simple you just select your token and you drag is simply drag and then you move your token around very simple very easy very intuitive just as you would expect on a touch screen then if you would like to Target a another token if you're in combat let's move next to this enemy you just tap on the enemy token and now you've targeted it again very simple very intuitive sometimes however you might need to right click on some stuff and you're wondering how to do that that is a long press so you just tap and hold and then it opens the right click context menu and you can see these new little arrows here in this context menu these are for rotating your token so if you want to rotate your token in a specific Direction you can use these arrows to do that you can also turn these arrows off in the settings for touch vtt if you don't want to have those in the UI then if you want to put down a measured template for example you're casting a fireball spell you can easily do that by going to the measure templates part selecting the circle for example and then just dragging anywhere and you will draw a circle now of course you're thinking how do I delete that since I don't have a delete key that I can use on the iPad it's quite simple there's a little new eraser icon in your measured template controls you click that and then or tap that I should say and then you tap on the measure template and boom it is gone lastly from the player side of things if you would like to open your character sheet you can easily do that by double tapping on your character and that opens your character sheet just like double clicking normally does in founder vtt lastly from the GM's perspective you can also draw walls and there's some new controls there so if you go to the walls section of your left hand UI you can just drag along the canvas to draw some walls very simple very easy you have two new controls over here which is the undo function so this little circular circular Arrow if you tap that it undoes your last wall action and you also have a an eraser tool that allows you to erase Walls by selecting the wall and then pressing on the Eraser tool so like I said I would recommend that only players use the touch screen option because as a GM you won't be able to unpause the game though there is a workaround for that you could log into your game first on your desktop unpause the game there leave the game and then log into the game again with your touchscreen device as the GM and then the game would be unpaused but it's a bit of a hassle so I would recommend that only players use this and the GM use a desktop setup if that's what you want to do there you have it a simple module that allows you to use a touch screen device like an iPad for or playing in Foundry vtt what did you think about this would you want to play Foundry VTC on a touch screen let me know what you thought in the comments below that actually does help me out quite a lot if you comment on the video and share this with any people who you think might find this useful I'm trying to grow my channel so that would also help me out and
