[Music] [Music] uh hello my friends i'm russ larson and i'm the rc tire guy today i wanted to give you guys my full thoughts on the 2021 gas gas ec300 we've put hundreds of hours on this machine and i want to give my long-term review of everything that's gone right and wrong although we're getting ready to move on and test another machine the average guy wants a bike that he can spend years on because i rode this bike on average five to six days a week for over six months this equals years of abuse for the weekend rider and today we'll break down how the gas gas has stacked up after hours of hard enduro abuse so let's get right into it i've absolutely abused the gas gas i ride a lot i'm hard on bikes the heat that these engines have to endure in these hard and dural situations is insane it's often i'll summit a long canyon climb and glance down at my trail tech fan and see temperatures at the radiator above 275 degrees the bike has truthfully sustained these temperatures for 95 percent of the complete engine time the reason i started the review this way is because in my opinion ktm which umbrellas husqvarna and now gas gas have designed an engine that is nearly bulletproof in all of the time and abuse i've put on this machine i haven't had to replace a major part the truth is every ktm husqvarna and now gas gas that i have personally owned can be described in the same way the gas gas has shown no sign of failure within the engine whatsoever even the stock clutch plates show no sign of needing replacement that's right the clutch plates are the same ones that came stock on the bike you've probably heard me mention this before but especially in hard enduro the term throttle and clutch control isn't a 50 50 split there's a discrepancy in favor of the clutch being more important the significance of that durability especially from the ktm clutch then gives me the confidence in the gnarliest situations the truth is on a ktm branded machine i'm never thinking about burning up my clutch i'm never thinking about melting my engine and when my mind is free from mechanical worry my focus can be on the task at hand that task is writing that to me is something that i haven't felt from the other brands i've ridden the slight uncertainty of durability isn't something i want on my mind so that to me is extremely important the gas gas scores full marks in durability now speaking of the clutch let's talk components as we know the ec models come with brake tech components brake tech master cylinders and brake tech levers and brakes this is something that you'll see on the new 2022 te husqvarna models after putting a considerable amount of time on the brake tech components i'm at a bit of a crossroads i really like the feel of the stock brake tech clutch which is very important to me stock feels like a nine millimeter master cylinder there's a large engagement area which really assists my style in holding traction in technical situations back to back comparing the brake tech to brembo 9 millimeter master i personally liked the brake tech better i felt the brembo even with a nine millimeter master has a quicker engagement point this increases a feel of snap but decreases a feel of holding traction but in my opinion the brakes went the other way with the brake tech front and rear brake components i experienced more fade an increased almost spongy feel in the levers even after vacuum bleeding and servicing both front and rear brakes they never felt consistent and not nearly as strong as the bremba so if i had my choice i'd choose brembo brakes and brake tech clutch remember the ex models come with brembo component stock so keep that in mind now a lot of guys have asked me why did i choose the ec over the ex model and truthfully i prefer the wide ratio transmission in situations i'm in most of the time now what do i mean by that the wide ratio transmission gives me a better first gear when i'm doing slow trick trials type riding i like the first gear power when i have a single obstacle like double blips or splatters i've kept the stop gearing at 1350 but added dirt trick sprockets for increased durability most of what i do is video related and it sounds weird but i like the wide ratio transmission for that style of riding i run the bike in first the majority of the time i like the first gear power and snap whereas if i was more focused on just racing hard enduro i'd probably prefer the close ratio or ex model with the wide ratio in racing situations i feel i'm fighting between first and second gear especially if the course i'm racing is slightly faster changing the gearing to 1352 or even 1249 then running the bike in second gear all the time would probably be preferred there's a lot of gearing changes that i can make and it really depends on the style of riding situation even dry versus wet right so i like doing single obstacles for video views and the wide ratio transmission and 1350 gearing suits me well one of the most common questions is how is the tpi's engine performance i ran this bike for about 50 hours completely stock no changes to the header mapping and truthfully performance was awesome the stock tpis are getting better and better the gas gas has that smooth linear tpi power but i feel an additional snap over its ktm counterparts will tpi's ever perform the same as carbureted bikes probably not but i was beyond impressed with the stock gas gas in fact i actually tested two identical gas gases just to see the difference in feel between two identical bikes and you can check that comparison out right here after that south bay motor performance in san jose california hit me up to test the two-stroke performance new head and remap you can also check out the full reviews of that product and the dyno tests of those components compared to stock right here and we'll link all of those videos in the description so i put 50 hours on the stock bike and was actually impressed then the remainder of the time has been with the tsp remapping and new head simply put i'm sure i'll ride more tpi two strokes in the future and you can be assured that the tsp remapping and head will be high on the list of aftermarket parts the bike improved on smooth tractable power as well as high-end rev it was a noticeable improvement across the board as these tpi's get better and better i'm confident two-stroke performance and their new mappings will improve as well finally let's talk suspension the ec300 comes with explore 48 millimeter fork and x-act shock and linkage i left it stock other than adjusting my sag and clickers i know that sounds crazy but at the speeds i'm riding the stock stuff is mine i originally start at the comfort settings and have gone slightly stiffer as i put more time on the bike is there still improvements to be desired from the suspension sure at times the front can feel like it blows through the stroke on downhills i like the performance and feel in the chop but it's too soft for hard hits it's the regular stuff that everyone deals with is it worth revolving with gold valve components or jumping for cone valve suspension for me no i'm a basic guy a freshly serviced suspension from the moto station satisfies my needs all in all i've been beyond happy with the 2021 gas gas ec300 could the suspension be better yes especially after running kyb on the sureco could the brakes be better yes brambo components are hard to beat the stock power was awesome the tsp aftermarket components made it more awesome more than anything i care about durability having confidence that my machine can handle what i dish out the gas gas has handled it and then some i'm excited to test more machines in the future on this channel let me know in the comments what bikes you'd like to see me ride in the future and we'll add it to the list if you guys are enjoying the channel make sure to like comment and subscribe as well as
