so it's 2024 and we need to talk about the current state of YouTube what are the biggest opportunities right now especially if you have a smaller Channel or a brand new channel what are some of the TR trends that you want to be paying attention to and what are some of the new monetization opportunities that YouTube has made available for creators like you and creators like me I'm fired up for this episode of the think media show we've got Nolan molt in the house what's up Nolan yo what's up everybody and we've got Omar elori with the balloons bons happy New Year think so fired up and we've got a packed episode we'll be covering some interactive questions and some things during it but noan take it away let's dive straight into the current state of YouTube and then we'll get into these opportunities yeah I'm excited because YouTube is growing and there are a lot of uh opportunity out there if you want to start a YouTube channel or if you already have one and you really want to go all in I think this is the perfect video for you to watch and one of the you know some of the stats I I found online uh about this last year in 2023 was that the total video watch hours per day was one billion hours which to me is absolutely insane there's more people watching than ever there's people watching longer than ever and the number of videos watched per day are five billion videos so there's 5 billion views going out there's opportunity for you to to snag a couple of those views because people want to watch video content and they want to watch it on YouTube and so what's even more interesting to me too is is what people do on their cell phones when it comes to YouTube 70% is this first number this is the percentage of YouTube watch time coming from mobile devices so people are really consuming on their mobile phon phones and so this is why often times you know when we create thumbnails we're specifically shrinking them down to see how they look like you know on a mobile device uh but this next number is very interesting the average mobile viewing session is 40 plus minutes on your phone and so if we look at this next slide it's actually what you'll notice is you'll see 2019 right here it just gets more and more so over the years people are spending more and more time on YouTube which is a great sign for those of us who want to make YouTube our full-time thing want to make more money on YouTube grow our channels and so 62% of Internet users in us access YouTube on The Daily that's pretty insane YouTube also generated 29.2 billion in Revenue last year YouTube has 2.7 billion monthly active users based all around the world and it is still the second most visited website in existence it is the second uh largest search engine behind Google and uh man for me YouTube is one of those things Sean where like people will be like um they ask what I do for a living and I'm like I just I do YouTube and every once in a while you'll have someone be like what happens if YouTube goes away I'm like nah it's not it's just getting bigger and bigger like I I'd be more scared to being like traditional media than I would to be on on YouTube I'm I'm so confident and it's so cool to look back at the previous year and to see numbers growing and more people on YouTube so I'm excited and all the numbers are kind of in our favor for us YouTube creators which is obviously an amazing thing yeah I'm curious uh Omar what are some of your takeaways before we get into the opportunities from just sort of the state of YouTube right now yeah I think what stood out kind of that I noticed last year was this ability where that YouTube is getting smarter to serve the viewer right you know there's kind of like the everybody always ask the question like how do you break or crack the algorith algorithm on YouTube but the reality is is you don't crack an algorithm you crack an audience and Nolan mentioned that all this traffic is actually already taking place so there isn't a traffic problem it's more about just you getting out there and putting yourself out there letting people know about the things you are excited about the things that you are really well versed in or a subject matter expert in and I think more than anything it it was just cool every year goes by and I'm always like who are those like new creators that you started to now follow and it just it poses the opportunity that the uh there there is possible there's possibility for you to still be discovered on YouTube and it's just always exciting to see new faces kind of get uh you know some you know uh their face out out there and Their audience grow and their subscribers grow and it's like dang they're doing it a different way here's another way we can do it so I was kind of excited about yeah that data makes me think about um supply and demand and so if we think from a business standpoint right everything is about supply and demand is a market already saturated how much competition is there and I think that from those stats I think number one we can't ignore the competition I think that it's never been more important in 2024 to skill up to take if you're going to do YouTube to have a serious mindset you can't just Dabble you've got to really dominate in terms of getting skills leveling up taking it seriously however everything you just shared Nolan is so powerful because um consumption is going through the roof there is demand for Content people are looking for educational content entertaining content people are searching for fresh creators and so uh somebody said you know there's really never been a better time to start a YouTube channel and we're going to get into these opportunities but from a lot of the research I've been doing it is a fact that YouTube is actually very generous with impressions YouTube is giving people a giving a lot of shorts creators or people posting shorts Impressions giving new channels Impressions even the way the algorithm is working for me sometimes I'm kind of surprised by the videos I'm being recommended because I'm not sure what they have to do with me that's YouTube working out the algorithm but nevertheless when that video hits my TV screen or my mobile phone they're getting an impression the opportunity we have to make videos from home nobody knows us the only Capital you need to get started is a smartphone and to start getting free publicity hence an impression now that's why it's so important we Master titles and master thumbnails and master topics and then think about grabbing people's attention when they actually click but I think in 2024 the landscape is huge because there's a massive demand for Content so if creators can rise to the top in terms of their skill set then they can fill in apply that and there's tons of opportunity 100% And one of the things that uh we're going to get into as well as YouTube shorts which is kind of one of those uh new features that YouTube has brought in and people are still you know kind of unsure about it but you know what we'll see with some of the statistics from this past year is you know it's it's it's growing and so Sean I want I want you to talk about some of the opportunities here with YouTube shorts and how um how our audience and people listening right now are able to maybe use YouTube shorts to grow their channels and uh grow their kind of use this opportunity to to build what they're already building yes I'm excited so let's talk about one of the big opportunities is short form content I want to take people behind the scenes and show them a little bit of our analytics here on th media uh but before I do I want to also let people know that today's video is brought to you by think media sale if you haven't heard about this yet there's actually only three days left until uh this sale ends so thank Medias sale.com we're running in a New Year sale this Saturday we're doing this cool event called the YouTube roadmap Workshop that's a live event it'll be recorded if you can't make it plus we've got our title guide our Niche Finder course our starter kit it's a massive bundle of actionable downloads PDFs resources if you're ready to crush it on YouTube in 2024 check it out at think Medias sal.com it's only $57 for a limited time but that is ending soon and there's uh details in the description down below if you want to check that out um I think the biggest thing for me when it comes to now opportunities Nolan as we go into this opportunity section I do think short form content vertical content not only has it been a wave but it's going to be a massive wave this coming year um and you broke down some stats from 2022 to the end of 2023 daily views on the app Grew From 1.5 billion to 70 billion so that's the number y'all YouTube shorts are getting 70 billion views a day how do you get discovered when nobody knows you how do you get found if you're just starting a brand new channel you need to get a view you need to get an impression you need to get in front of people YouTube shorts are getting 70 billion views per day and so uh let me know if you're here live or in the comments are you actively posting shorts are you anti- shorts are you still not wanting to join the shorts bandwagon uh let me know uh but YouTube shorts is 1.5 billion monthly activ users and vertical video has emerged as jz's preferred method of communication so I think if you're going to be positioning yourself right you're going to be leaning into YouTube shorts and so you know for us we can now look back over a year's time I think that uh we did start we've been posting shorts for over a year as you can see it's interesting before we had this breakout where a couple shorts went pretty viral um our Baseline of views was 13 ,000 a day 15,000 a day 40 50,000 a day and then our even though we went to this viral Peak with a couple days of two million views uh one day 1.6 million in a day was like the peak it dropped down but it's you start thinking about these numbers here we're getting what at our low right now anywhere from 40,000 to 100,000 views a day on shorts and then just look at the big data that's what I like to point people back we could debate and we don't have a ton of time but we could get as much as we want to debate about some people say My Views my long form went down when I posted shorts they experienced these different Dynamics one of the metrics I like to measure though is let's just look at the Topline data we grew 61,000 subscribers this is by the way not from all just from shorts here in analytics we got 80 million uh Impressions shown in the feed we got 57.9 million views just from shorts and of the quality of those views do they convert over to long form there's that very important you know kind of viewers across formats on think media only uh 63% of our viewers here compared to shorts watch only long form 30% watch only shorts and basically one out of 10 watch both so it speaks to the fact that there's a lot of deeper questions we should ask about shorts but my conclusion after years of processing this and working with Omar and Nolan and thinking through this kind of stuff it's it's ultimately positive it's ultimately the future is for we're figuring it out but there's been growth there's been more reach we're tapping in a new format so I know we we are going to move on to a few other points but it might be worth talking about shorts briefly Omar what's kind of your mindset what's really cool I think that's very uh overlooked is that our shorts aren't dedicated shorts they're repurposed so like you just pulled up all these stats and we were able to grow by 61,000 subscribers on this Channel without having to create dedicated pieces of content to grow that way so I think that is the overlooked opportunity that using repurposing our long form videos and creating smaller moments from them re-uploading them to YouTube has allowed us to reach more people I think that's the huge opportunity especially if you value your time especially if you're in business um you know we're not we're not hustling to get these shorts out we're just we just opened up a door of possibil because of the content that's already being produced that's a good disclaimer Nolan just to just to clarify for everybody watching again we're we would be objectively getting a lot better results if we sat down architected the hook perfect video recipe made individual shorts that that is a ton of Leverage to your point Omar that these are clips from all kinds of other videos clips from the video podcasts clips from us on other podcasts and so the level of Leverage in this case is insane but Nolan I'm curious your thoughts yeah I wrote down a couple things because you know shorts I think people are still figuring out what works for their Channel and I think a lot of people like myself um you know maybe aren't I don't watch a ton of YouTube shorts but then it's interesting to hear some of um you know younger people that really just watch YouTube shorts and they don't watch a lot of long form so there's I think a lot of diversity out there what I will say is um I want to shout out Opus Clips because I've been using them to kind of recut some different podcast clips and if you're really just like you know you don't have a Content team and you want to what you know Omar's talking about repurpose Clips I think use we've made videos on Opus you can check out how easy it is to use them and to start repurposing your regular talking head type of videos or your video podcast and that's going to get you more Impressions like YouTube is pushing shorts and so uh I've seen a lot of small channels utilize shorts to grow very quickly um but what's really cool is YouTube is trying to make that leap for people to go go from short form viewers to long form viewers and uh they introduced this last year the related link and so now on your YouTube shorts you're going to see an actual like kind of hyperlink type of title where you can click on it and it'll take them straight to the long firm video this can be really really powerful especially for smaller channels um and but one other thing I wanted to talk with you guys about before we move on to this next one is um I have a prediction because carnivore Kip says there's no money in YouTube shorts you are correct uh we get about six five or four to six cents on our YouTube shorts when it comes to uh the actual RPM set for every 10,000 views however I have faith in YouTube because I see Tik Tok right now and I have a couple Tik Tok Creator friends that are making anywhere from 30 cents to a dollar RPM on their Tik Tok videos and so I really think um over these next few years maybe not in 2024 but maybe uh over these next couple years I think advertisers are going to start um using YouTube shorts more and more and advertising on YouTube shorts and we're already seeing it happen on Tik Tok and a lot of people are advertising their products and their brands on Tik Tok so I really believe uh the future is bright for YouTube shorts and even when it comes to the monetization of AdSense um I believe they're gonna be able to dish out more and more to creators as advertisers start to pay more and more for that I know we got to move on but before we offer more solutions I do have a problem and uh that is with vertical video and and monetization of vertical video but if you haven't Tak our poll I just threw up a poll I'm curious do you watch both long form and shorts are you actively watching shorts uh or do you only watch long videos right now 25% of people at least here in our think media community that are here live and voting um are only watch long videos and I think there's that's still kind of a culture I found I'm consuming quite a bit of shorts these days I'm getting recommended more shorts on my homepage I'm watching how they're being recommended to me but here's my problem you know one of the challenges for us is that all other platforms have embraced longer form vertical video so on Tik Tok for your you to get into the monetization and for you to get the higher RPMs closer to a dollar um is more like 77 cents you got to be over a minute problem is if you want to post the content Everywhere YouTube shorts is now the only platform that is capped at the 60 seconds here's my question you can answer in a second do you think they'll ever change that because the nature of YouTube you go over 60 now you're just going to a different format whereas Facebook reels Instagram reels Tik Tok are now allowing either 90 seconds or who knows maybe longer of course Tik Tok could be over 10 minutes depending on the account or whatever so all of that to say is the reason that's a problem for us that think media and I don't have a solution right now is if you're leaning into wanting monetization on the other platforms then optimizing or creating vertical videos that are longer than a minute is a smart thing to do but then you run into the issue of not being able to post that same video on YouTube shorts without modifying a different version which then you run into the issue of just splintering off different verticals of creative and maybe my problem is kind of a niche problem but I'm just curious I I where do you so let's let's make it clear Nolan do you think YouTube keeps shorts at 60 seconds capped and doesn't break or do you think that they soften like the other platforms and go longer I think they will do what the viewer wants is my prediction because they uh I I just you know it's it's it's so interesting um when I was in New York I got to meet the CEO of YouTube Neil Mohan and um he was talking about how his kids are watching YouTube shorts on their television and I'm like and I I'm like I don't even hardly watch YouTube shorts and actually over the past couple months I've been watching more YouTube shorts because I don't have Instagram and Tik Tok and so I'm like I'll check it out like oh there's some cool stuff over here um so at the end of the day I think if there is an if there's a want and a need for n if 90 people are enjoying and the satisfaction this is a word I I hear a lot from the people at YouTube is they talk a lot about satisfaction that's something that's creators we should also focus on but I think if people are more satisfied with longer vertical videos um I don't see why they wouldn't do it but my guess because they have long form content is probably won't happen in 2024 if I had to make a guess fire all right well okay opportunity number two we're going through all the opportunities in 2024 from a thick media perspective with some data to back it up Omar I think's hitting this next one educational content Omar break it down yeah so we got this you know you could split YouTube almost into two camps we got educational content and then we have entertainment type of content and there's kind of those two routes you can go in on YouTube One the reason why we say o the opportunity for educational content is because the barrier of Entry is very low than than trying to entertain trying to be a comedian you know like or not even just be a comedian but create content that is purely to move you know people into uh emotion I guess you could say but what's cool about entertainment is the practicality of just showing up in teaching right you know a lot of times when when it comes to these you know platforms and things like that people are in a Mindless State especially vertical videos whether it's Instagram tiktk or YouTube shorts you're not in a place to really like dial in and learn so what's cool about creating educational content and I'll sh we'll share some stats right now is that the mind frame of your viewer is really bought in you get more of a bought in viewer somebody who wants to sit down and listen to you right so check this out it's some some information 92% of users reporting use using they use YouTube to gather information and knowledge and know I always like to say that people turn their phones this way and they start hanging out with the Creator when they go on YouTube or you know I watch YouTube TV on my television let me know if you watch YouTube on your television which if you want a quick tip by the way to level up in 2024 just start consuming YouTube and and and learning more about it even on your free time you know the more you understand it the more you're going to create better I I always like to say if you change the way you conse Zoom you'll change the way you create and so uh pull up that slide really quick again I just want to point out a couple other stats 77% of female users agree that YouTube is helpful for lifelong learning and so if you are in business if you sell something if you want to sell something if you have a service if um you know I just watched a video on uh somebody a detailer like a a car detailer they took a a car that's been sitting for like eight years and then they made it fresh but he's just a local car detailer and they got like four million views in a couple days by just filming content on how to do something so I think I think the opportunity for turning on a camera and teaching is absolutely wide open and I would say is just a like I said low barrier of Entry to start creating uh we we absolutely love this practical approach when it comes to YouTube because most people um Can can really just teach something you already know right and so um what I'd love to know your guys's thoughts on this because we try to tie you know there is a you know I would say Bill NY the Science Guy made educational and entertaining uh mesh which you can do and that takes a skill but from a lot of people they could probably just turn on a camera and start teaching yeah and I heard Alli abdall break it down I agree with you again we're all we're pro entertainment if it's your aboutou your personality it's about music it's about maybe more challenge-based like a Mr Beast format react channels entertainment is a big opportunity but it can also be very hard to break through and I heard Oli abdall break it down like this he mentioned if teaching something you know he believes anybody could do on YouTube and be successful and he said if you don't know anything you just need the patience and the diligence to go learn something and he referenced some case studies of like teach yourself a foreign language how' you do it in a year then break down how you did it over that last year so you can always teach if you're only one or two steps ahead of other or if you take the next which this would be the the the secret that people could be missing I'm not saying oh there's this get-rich quick opportunity on YouTube to just start a channel and go viral no the the discipline required would be what if your next 12 to 24 months look like you transforming it kind of makes me think about a guest we recently had on our podcast Omar you had them on your show in mind ER mcmanis he said instead of actually learning how to become a good Storyteller we should be better story livers first go be the case study go go learn the thing you taught yourself how to cook you taught yourself how a foreign language you taught yourself how to edit video you taught yourself new Ai and because you got six months and 12 months down the road and you put in the hundreds of hours of research and you transformed as the individual then what is your YouTube channel about that skill and you don't have to be advanced yet now you can teach beginners because you're 6 months 12 months 24 months ahead of time if you're willing to follow that path I think that education is a massive opportunity and it's just getting started and uh the data refines that defines that as well but let's hit this next opportunity Nolan I'm gonna te you up Brandon here live said I've noticed YouTube recommending more small channels than before Brandon that is a fact and if anybody's watching this live on the replay again we're I'm seeing this from every angle we've measured it that is a crazy opportunity in 2024 small channels new channels that don't even exist are not coming into this algorithm that's like suppressing you you have the opportunity to get recommended that means get a shot in a 20124 world it is our conviction that it's never been a better time to start a YouTube channel not that it's easy but it is a real thing and I love that comment that came in Nolan break this down yeah we've seen this a lot uh with new creators um new channels popping up channels that have not posted any videos in years and they come back and they have 34 subscribers and you know they get 14,000 views this is um a really interesting uh stat right here which is 70% of the content people watch on YouTube are recommendations from YouTube so I want you to think about this for a sec because we we're talking about educational content and a lot of people are searching right they're searching on YouTube how to blank um a lot of people use it in that way however what you'll notice though just if you go on your own YouTube you're going to see that YouTube is giving you new videos and new channels and new topics and things you might be interested in on your homepage and then when you click on a video or you search for something you're going to see recommendations on what to watch next and if you look at some of these if you open up YouTube and you go and and you look at some of the view counts and then you look at the subscriber counts you'll notice that a lot of these channels don't have a lot of views they don't have a lot of subscribers but they're still getting just pushed out and get they're getting Impressions and I kind of believe I'm curious Sean and Omar what you guys think um but I kind of think this could be due to the virality of Tik Tok and and short form content I feel like people kind of on on Tik Tok they can get a lot of views and that can be encouraging for them to keep going and I think YouTube is wanting to give more of an opportunity for new creators to to get a chance to be heard seen so that they can continue to keep going that's kind of my theory I don't have data to back that up but I think um that there is something to be said about people getting discovered online these days so Omar I don't know what do you think about I think in many cases it's yet it's still not so accidental because when I get when I get you know served a video from a person that I don't quite know is a newer Creator the legitimacy of their title and their thumbnail still align at a YouTube level right I guess you could say so the skill of a new creator that I just I just want to you know say that like you you do want to grow in your YouTube skills of title thumbnail and even hook so this is why YouTube is recommending it right because because they're saying like oh wow you know when we're serving it to some people they are clicking on this why do people even click on videos they click on videos because they read titles and they they look at thumbnails so I would say this is kind of like maybe want to put more intentionality maybe less intention into your fancy edit and put more intention into your title and thumbnail but that's really I would say why I'm clicking on even personal newer channels I'm like oh wow that's a great thumbnail and you know title yeah and I actually Nolan it is kind of datab backed there were some people who talked to some Executives at Tik Tok um and we observing Tik Tok and I remember this sounds weird but I was in a a b at the time having this conversation with like a bunch of other businessmen which is uh for those who don't know the definition that's like cold plunge hot tub steam room super hot room where you wear the little hat anybody out there living that b life okay so I'm in the B we're talking about Tik Tok and what what one of the things that is is why Tik Tok got so big is because it was a platform where everyday people could become famous at a legitimately consistent rate that that you could post on Tik Tok and your chance you post 50 100 Tik toks or less your chance of getting 500,000 views or a million views and so their tweaking of that algorithm that that that algorithmic the way it was at least has been set up and they try to now continue to scale it if creators feel suppressed or creators feel like it's impossible to break through not only feel if it is impossible to break through well then you're actually going to technically destroy the creater economy you would you would you would disincentivize but then it also has to be a rhythm because of course there's supply and demand and and so just affirming what you said YouTube's Engineers learning from Tik Tok there's no doubt about it because with Tik Tok it created a legitimate feedback loop almost that maybe maybe you haven't blown up yet but you know someone who has so you're just like well this is real because it is real now also the quality of the viewership there it was the CMO of HubSpot that said YouTube subscrib subers are the most valuable subscribers on the internet so I think it's worthwhile you know asking yourself I have 10 million views on Tik Tok okay cool like what what what does that mean I mean great I'm not putting it down but like essentially is it a real business or is it sustainable is it a real brand or did you just get some virality but to land the plane I would say yes I think YouTube short form and long form is understanding part of keeping the crater economy healthy is having legitimate Pathways to the top of the platform even if you're starting fresh in a New Year and that is what we're seeing just here in live chat in the comments of this as people are like yeah I see new small channels on my homepage and what if anything that should just give us the feedback that uh there is channels and systems and ways forward for people watching this to start new channels to revive existing channels listen to this so uh Barbara says it's true when I was uh when I'm getting YouTube with 20,000 Impressions less than 700 subs and growing to, 1400 watch hours so she's getting 20,000 Impressions with a 700 subscriber channel on her content that's a lot of awareness then it goes to what Omar is saying okay what are you doing with those impressions YouTube is trying to kind of get you out there or giving you a shot what's your title what's your thumbnail what's the topic what's the feedback when they give you that shot Todd Bui one of the lead Engineers of the algorithm said that if you get 20,000 Impressions this week it's 7X next week I'm sure at some point it starts going down but this was at vidsummit he said it's 7x so also like once you start building momentum on YouTube YouTube is g to try to see if your videos satisfy a wider group of people I hope that all of this geek talk encourages listeners that it's just the the algorithm is legitimately they're trying to wire it to give creators a shot because it's not helpful to them to like kill the crater economy because people are like it just doesn't work it actually does so of course make sure you're subscribed to here on thank media because that's what this channel is all about is helping you figure out those best practices so you can rise above and make this legit back to you Nolan yeah so we got another opportunity here that I want Omar to touch on and it's reaction channels yeah this is reaction channels and you could even say reaction content uh you can also replace this for commentary content or commentary channels and check out this this is a crazy stat uh it says this uh it says 54% of people surveyed said that they would rather watch YouTube creators break down a major event than actually watch the event itself I want to ask you the question if you're watching this live or watching the replay have you watched videos when somebody is talking about something that has gone on and the reality is you your answer to that is probably yeah and it's because we we just like when somebody gives either expert opinion or when somebody gives their observation around a thing and so uh this poses the opportunity to Simply create content without you having to conjure up you know the content from Ground Zero you're actually just taking something that's already out there that has already happened and you are talking about it you are commentating on it I things that I think about I think about you know Patrick Bet David uh you know he's putting out a lot of content but he's able to do that because he's simply taking what's happening in culture what's happening in politics and then he's giving his you know they're they're having conversations around it and it and it's and it works and it works for your level as well um you know we have a a friend in our community Johnny law where you know he has uh he used to be like a detective photographer detective guy investigator and uh he's making he made reactionary content to a big you know shooting that took place and it got his channel so much attention so what is the punchline here the punchline here is that you can make cont content on content you could make videos around things happening in your world sector or you know your your interests even and and so that that is reactionary content you don't have to think of it like a gamer necessarily think of it it could be a conversation right now Omar and Nolan and Sean are technically we're reacting to what's happening on YouTube and so uh just know that that opportunity is wide open yeah you know I've got also this is a good quote for 2024 and uh let me bring this up because a lot of people had mentioned in response a lot of yeses Omar when they said have you not just watched the event itself but have you watched somebody uh you know react to the event and a lot of the comments here live are like yeah just give me the highlights yes because it's it's summary so the traveling Hatter said summary is superior so here's the term for this officially if y'all haven't heard this but um this is from like an article the future belongs to the synthesizers I think synthesizers are going to win not just in 2024 but in this next decade and here's the quote from EO Wilson we are drowning in information while starving for wisdom the world henceforth will be run by synthesizers people able to put together the right information at the right time think critically about it and make important choices wisely this is worth re reading and re-watching that point or screenshotting that here in the video because when I think about okay yes there's like raw react channels and there's some opportunity there but if we also think about stepping into the top two% of creators what what's going to make the React channel different if it's entertainment maybe how funny you are how your laugh sounds the editing of it Etc but then I think about what it's saying here is we need synthesizers and so somebody earlier was talking about there's so much content like we're drowning in content I think everybody feels that way but there's two responses one is to get overwhelmed and say oh it's impossible the other response is to get educated and say how could I make that happen how could I become a synthesizer and actually entrepreneurs see solutions for every problem complainers see problems for every solution so most people look at the overwhelming amount of content they're just like ah throwing in the towel no that's an opportunity like there's sobody people watching this if you start realizing we we'll hit some stuff later about like long form content uh podcasts or trending we're seeing of course how much those are blowing up uh there's more creators sharing great news information or whatever around the world so what do people need more of than ever before is synthesizing who can maybe summarize I know for me I can't even keep up with every podcast I watch I'm like oh sick Lex Freedman talk to Jeff Bezos I don't got three and a half hours like what are we talking about so of course AI tool can you support those AI tools can you watch it can you give me the clips can you give me the highlights people are getting wealthy off of OPC other people's content not OP Naughty by Nature well people are probably getting Wealthy on that but but OPC other people's content other people's content is through fair use through being a synthesizer and I think this would be though the the the biggest thing that stands out to me on this quote though is the is the starving for wisdom part makes me think of our mutual friend rouson KD he is reacting to a lot of stuff in the faith-based world kind of in the Christian world he is reacting to a lot of stuff but he's also not just like reacting to it then he in this case he's like and I got a Bible verse at the end and I got you know uh another article to connect this to I think if you're going to lean into react I think it's about starting to think about how you gather multiple Divergent sources of information simplify them know how to repack package them but what we're seeing happen is people are building six fig incomes from other people's content and why some would argue that it's lazy and loow hanging fruit and there's the stuff with like Sniper Wolf and and she's undergone like a lot of criticism for like how low effort and how if you just do react I'm not even here to maybe put a a vote in the game on that I I think we're talking about different things in some Cas it's just react to a viral video and siphon some viral views in other cases is you're bringing some real wisdom some real insight to it you're taking complex things and making them simple and so react content doesn't necessarily mean low effort content I think it actually could could be equally as hard because it takes the heavy lifting of that person's brain energy the time they spent many videos that I that have done very well on think media where I've gotten viral views or whatever is because I spent 40 hours of research to make a 14-minute video and and one reason why it's so dense and rich is because I spent freaking 40 hours of research in it so it's not that's not lower effort that is a massive when people say there's too much there's not too many synthesizers there's not too many people with wisdom putting in the real time the real work and therefore it's a wide openen blue ocean in my opinion if you're willing to put in the hustle yeah it's funny funny how you brought that up Nolan just texted me yesterday about somebody who made a reaction video about me and Nolan's conversation it's performing best on her Channel she has a fairly small Channel and she just put herself in the thumbnail but she's just sharing her thoughts and what how it communicates to her and she like literally loow hanging fruit you know like more power to you um but no yeah what were you gonna say Nolan no I I was gonna just you know this conversation is I think sometimes it's good to think smarter not harder right because some people like just naturally if you're like me you love learning and you love you know looking into information and and you're here learning about YouTube and so if you can take that passion you have for learning or for watching um there's really a place for you on YouTube and there's a place for you in the Creator economy and it it brings up the uh next point which I think just goes Super well um with reactionary content it's very similar but fandom channels I think there's an opportunity here uh in 2024 um this study says that 60% of gen Z have used YouTube to find more content about a movie or a show that they just watched and so if you are in in love with Star Wars there there is a place for you on YouTube to react to the trailer to talk about what films they should make next to uh to give your thoughts when they release who's going to be acting is this person and that person there's content to be made because I think at the end of the day people want other opinions they don't just want the mainstream news they want to hear your reaction they want to hear your thoughts they they want to know your opinion if you enjoyed that movie or not that I remember before watching Oppenheimer I went on YouTube and I was like what do I need to know about World War II before watching like how was abomb and I like watched all these videos before watching uh the movie Oppenheimer and uh this though you know it's very similar to what I did last year I started a basketball YouTube channel and you know I think people it's like when an event happens or you know the the finals happen people want to know what do you think about y yic winning the finals MVP you know and like there is just there is a place for your opinions on YouTube and so that's why I love YouTube is really to to broadcast your voice your opinion and your thoughts and it's the perfect place to do it while make money so yeah I I personally love watching it's just kind of like you know we got we we all have our like what's your YouTube feed it'll reveal like what you're into but I I love golf and I also love fashion content and I always watch you know content around clothing drops and shoe drops and what are people doing they have the item in hand and they're like look this is crazy bro check this out look how they fit and it and it it it just it again using other things to create content around I hope this is like opening up some limiting beliefs like I don't have any videos to make you know I don't have any ideas to make videos about there's literally endless ideas and we're just helping you discover these opportunities but just know that if there isn't interest or something you have you can make a part-time or even full-time income with a genuine interest that you have it's insane and I think phandom channels are underrated you know as Nolan was kind of curating some of these Trends too again if you're picking the right Niche and Nolan has a separate video that just came out too to definitely watch in the library it's in like in the last two weeks um picking the right Niche is a big deal for Success like and so you may be pivoting from what you thought you were going to do to a fandom Channel I don't think you just do it because you're not actually a fan the key is you're genuinely passionate about that subject or whatever but no I would um I also would say if you're watching this don't judge YouTube by only your own experience and don't judge YouTube by only your own behavior I think one of the biggest mistakes people make in life and in business and on YouTube is they uh project their own experience they're like I don't watch shorts and I don't like them so nobody does besides 70 billion people a day then you're right maybe nobody does no that that would just be your experience oh I don't really watch you know Recaps of movies or shows on YouTube yeah but millions of people do and so um you know personally I actually never watch a movie now with without watching ending explained after because it's not even because I don't understand the ending it's because I know there's 13 things I didn't notice or I'm curious some of the motifs or other things if I really get into a show like succession I was watching the character breakdowns you know I don't know if anybody was offended by the ending of Leave the World Behind um or uh but I you know even watching that I was like yeah I didn't get any new information it was still just as bad but at least I saw the ending uh you know recap and it was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama as a footnote but anyways uh as far as uh fandom content it could be Sports it could be of course shows could be movies it could be Comics it could be pickle ball it could be things that are coming up in Trends tapping into that stuff is a really wise opportunity and uh let me know your opinion about Leave the World Behind out there uh as far as if you enjoyed it didn't like it or your thoughts on it back to you Nolan yeah so I'm gonna queue up this next one but first we got a couple um people giving us some cash in the comments and so thank you so much uh from Germany so we got people watching from all over um appreciate just everyone being here and thank you Field Guide as well helping you get started in the right direction hashtag Allin let me know in the comments if you guys are Allin for 2024 we know like we're Allin and so if you want to join us and be all in with us then we are so happy that you're here that you're learning and uh you know we're live go ahead Omar somebody asked the question like Hey how do you get good at thumbnails and you know you get good at thumbnails by learning about them and we have our I just wanted to let people know if you hopped on this late think Medias sal.com there are so many resources we're doing 98 percent off uh of a bundle that will give you like all so many so much of the tools and resources you need to be successful at YouTube this year and here's what's cool with the purchase of this bundle which ends uh end of day Saturday there we're actually doing a live call with everyone who is buying this bundle and so that's happening on on Saturday and we will record it if you can't make it however huge opportunity uh with essentially everything you need to know uh to to be successful this year on YouTube and so I want you know with all the questions coming in because there there are these you know we're talking about better titles better thumbnails how do I do that well think Medias sale.com will help you do just that amazing awesome well hey I want to jump right into this next one Omar uh but talk about the live streaming opportunities next year and how uh the people can can do that yes and so wanted to talk about this opportunity here because you know especially if you're somebody who can you know deliver you can talk for a long periods of time because you are a wealth of information uh I believe you should consider doing live streams this year and nearly a quarter of the time people are watching a video it's now spent on live content and there's so many reasons why you should tap into live streaming one reason being because most people don't like editing videos like if editing videos is a hurdle or a stumbling block to you actually being consistent on YouTube consider doing live streams this actually your job is done there is no more editing to be you know had after you go and push live and here's here's what why why live streaming is powerful number one YouTube will push out relevant information anytime you add an updated year maybe you're in real estate you're doing like a market update do a market update in a live stream YouTube wants to get most recent information out to people and doing live streams allows you to do that you know you could make live streams more Dynamic by using a software or tool kind of like a streamyard that's what we're using right now to be able to switch the slides and pull up you know other people but you know people want to see humans just be human on camera right like of course we can watch edited content you know uh content that's you know synthesize as Sean mentioned but you could also synthesize and deliver content live and it's not abnormal we it's like human interaction and if if if if there's anything I noticed that uh YouTube is really rewarding it's just transparency and authenticity so when I say live stream I mean do you have slide decks do you have presentations that you already have like literally sitting on computers and laptops um the th this poses the opportunity to now just show up and deliver you know just straight through and so I would encourage you again doesn't have to be the gamer Liv stream it literally could be educational content live stream it could be all the stuff we even talked about it could be reaction live stream it could be you know all those things yeah love that Sean anything you want to add to live streaming I think I mean one question that I can tea up for you here is someone you know I think you kind of touched on that Omar but like just press live and talk well you can but you're better off with the visual that's why I love streamyard um which people can go to stream withth think.com if you guys want it that's what we're using right now and it's like we're kind of doing what we're you know talking about which is we have slides we'll showcase them and uh kind of go through our points talking about it and we can bring on guests and stuff so um I don't recommend just going live and talking I do you know have some sort of visual element but Sean for the people who hate editing but maybe they're still a little bit scared even to jump on a live stream any advice for that person who is a little intimidated by going live yeah I think the myth of live streaming is that it's no effort compared to the high effort of crafting a video and it could be no effort but if you put incredibly low effort into a live stream you'll probably get low views and low results so to your point the big idea for me is how do I create a show and then what elements could be a part of that show if you study streaming there could be you know it could be story time it could be Q&A time you could have times where you react to trending stories of the week if you were to go back and look at like Legends like Regis Filman who had different co-hosts over the years he always had like an opening like he'd read the headlines if you look at some of the biggest personalities that are on YouTube today um and all kinds of different niches you can see a lot of insights from traditional media traditional Legends like a regious Filman who always kind of told a story of where he went last night and uh different experiences he had and he kind is always kind of self-depreciating um and then you fast forward to like Kelly Rippa show now and you think about having guests then you modernize all that to the fact that like we're all in we're in three different cities we are all hours apart right now Nolan is six hours one way from me four hours Omar's the other noan and I are both in Washington Omar's in Vegas right now but streamyard has made it possible for us to do a show uh we could pull up our slides we could pull up a screen so yeah I think if you're thinking about live streaming I think one start before you're ready two your first live streams will be your worst live streams um and use your season in obscurity to prepare you for popularity so be okay when only three people are there or no people are there and the replay value because that's kind of just the cost of Entry that is the cost of admission to building up a brand building up your skill set but if you fast forward to what I think Mastery looks like just what could your show be what could what could people expect How Could You brand a show eventually how could you have segments in the show how could you mess with that and you know coffee with Kel on our other channel is my show on our think media podcast Channel A lot of times it's start with the training have some kind of call to action then do Q&A pre guest or prescheduled I'll do live coaching and we're messing with the segments all the time but it's kind of a it's kind of like giving yourself an environment like some constraints I know I'm going live that's a fact and I know I want to maybe go live once a week and I know that maybe it'll have this this and this but then let me always be thinking about how I could improve it how can I make the beginning better and we could do things like streamyards got even little videos So eventually your show could have uh you know Clips to little things [Applause] [Music] like grow up video lives back in person I just you weren plan on playing that video but that video is just uploaded on the back end so so I think you know having all these different elements this is personally that has been years of being committed to live streaming to improving thinking about how to improve it so not thinking about that it's an overnight thing but if you don't start today to start kind of learning the thinking the mindset the real time then then you're not going to be ready for that if you will day of opportunity 12 months from now 24 months from now it's just kind of an ongoing thing so I think there's some short-term opportunity there but of course there's always the long-term opportunity of getting 1% better with every stream and uh those are a few thoughts yeah if I could if I could boil it down just to make it you know accessible I here here's what I would like for you to think of when it comes to live streaming so that even though you don't have people on at least the video like Sean mentioned a term might have flew over a lot of people's head but that is replay value so when we say live streaming is an opportunity we're not saying going turning on a camera going live and having a thousand people just like ready to learn and or whatever receive is g to happen what we're saying is it's a very efficient way to create and so at a bare minimum you still want a good title you want a good thumbnail and if you noticed how sean started this live stream he started with an actual what we call a hook a a a script it out he wrote it out you know he wrote out his hook kind of got it into him and then he delivered it so I would encourage you to good title good thumbnail and have either a a hook where you're having two enrolling questions or let people know what you're about to get into and then get right into it so so that when people watch it after the fact when you do your live stream and nobody watches but your email list of 200 people or a thousand people and you send it out that there's actual replay value that's where the real power is and I love seeing a lot of older Sean's older live streams literally going crazy because it it is a great like the content in of itself has so much High replay value it's amazing but what it does do is as you build the audience of people who come on you build that intimacy like just being able to either you know take on questions that on real time um and and do some Q&A and stuff but you know somebody mentioned that you know my thing is just nobody shows up hey awesome still deliver a great quality piece of content uh that has high value and the replay value it'll speak for itself and YouTube will find the people eventually especially if you show up consistently around a certain topic um Sean your your friend Mark uh the real estate agent he just he just went live every day did he have did he have slides it prepared or he just did research and then just came with the information yeah are we thinking about also are we thinking about one rental at a time um go he goes live every day off of off of notes off of a like a whiteboard off of yeah like and just and but hits you with like the five financial news things you need today by the way it's a show he created a show it's it's very low Tech low Tech I actually I mess I'm like make eye contact with the lens he like and by and he's doing incredibly well 80k a year in ad Revenue bu about a 400k uh Topline business in terms of the impact quote unquote small Channel not only at 50,000 subscribers now for those kind of numbers like there's a lot of but all that to say was you speak to a show and it's actually one of my favorite shows I'm not looking at the production value but I am looking at the information value and he took his habit um we're talking about uh Michael Zuber from one rental at a time and I don't know uh which is another great example and he he's like he took his habit of studying the financial news every day personally for about an hour because that's what he loves you turn your passionate into profit this way he gets up reads Bloomberg reads nms NBC reads Yahoo finance and then once he quit his corporate job and wanted to go all in in the creater economy as a content creator he was like wait a minute I already read and research I already am curious and fascinated I already would be into this now I'm just going to take the hour every day that I do rates are up rates are down this is what the FED did this is what's happening this is what somebody else the five predictions they have and it's become one of my favorite shows 20 or less minutes A lot of times 10 or less minutes these are the type of things things that I think are exciting about it because it's not necessarily you're like show I need a background I need lighting I need a crew I need a sign I need live animals like maybe not yet I mean we we can work our way into that uh but you may just need like a clear promise some good information and then be brief be bright be fun and be done and then boom you've got daily financial news Uber blowing it up over at one rental at a time so yeah I think there is some opportunities for live stream and uh let's keep it moving let's keep it moving yeah amazing so this next one Sean I want you to touch on the opportunity here with shopping features um now this next one if if we really utilize this I think is going to help a lot of people watching just make more money over this next year on YouTube and so why don't you to cover some of the maybe some of the trends that could be happening this year with online shopping yeah well a couple things to like sort of paint the picture is one um a couple things have happened bad news YouTube shorts took away clickable links no clickable links in the comment no clickable links in the description which is super discouraging from an affiliate marketing shopping perspective Etc now the good news is they added back uh the ability to do related videos so maybe you could connect a related video to a video that has more like affiliate links in it or whatnot problem is we're not seeing crazy amounts of traffic fig fig figuring that out but it is there but what did they really add back if they took away clickable links is what they're adding is these shopping features and I think that the big idea here is that this is a legitimate opportunity so here's what we're learning so six% of Shoppers who use YouTube in their purchase Journey make fewer returns so it's a great experience people are sticking with it 93% of respondents who Sean that's that was number five so actually 90 93 % of Shoppers use YouTube in their purchase Journey yeah that's very confusing 5.93 yeah 93% okay so that's that's way better I'm like 6% of Shoppers like opportunity so 93% of Shoppers who use YouTube make fewer returns and then YouTube's influencing the shopping Journey uh journey 93% of respon respondents keep their purchases more than those using Instagram or Tik Tok that's interesting uh and then 85% of participants say they have made plan to make or repeat a purchase from a brand on YouTube and then 79% of those Shoppers are satisfied with their purchase from YouTube so what are we talking about we are talking about this idea that YouTube has added shopping um and that's what they call it is shopping and what it specifically is though is you can have your store a connected store so like Adorama if you wanted to connect different camera retailers tagged products and videos shorts and live streams pinned products in your live streams if you meet the eligibility criteria connect your store to YouTube and tag products then here's the placement it could be in the actual store in the video description of the video in a product shelf below the video probably a lot of us have seen that with a shopping button on the actual content or a pinned product in the live stream so the net net result being you're doing a YouTube short and now they're could be a shelf or a clickable button and you could actually get the jacket the Hat um and it can also be your own store so it's not just Teespring but you've got like Phil def Franco's brand Beautiful Bastard like coffee mugs candles bags like so it could be pretty sophisticated levels of merch or shopping or different products yes you can connect it to your own website my biggest takeaway from this is that at least personally is that I just want to start playing with this because this is what's evident for me as far as 2020 four and opportunities this is where everything's going I commented on our friend modern Millie's Instagram post I was like cool jacket and she's like I bought it on Tik Tok and I actually was gonna look up to get the same jacket for my wife because it's kind of like a cords kind of in it's like a cord like nice tone I was like that jacket's fire like I would love to get that for my wife Sonia so I just randomly commented and enough she got it through a Tik Tok shopping experience now that's just one story but I think we're just going to see it more commonplace especially with genen Z people being used to an integrated kind of seamless experience of shopping meets vertical meets long form meets the video itself being integrated with shopping so I think the action item for us as content creators that are serious I think thing one is to play with the tools get used to the tools experiment with the tools but I will say I don't don't think it's going to fully come as fast as we think I think maybe for younger Shoppers that are shopping fashion makeup I think that's that's game over already I think maybe for other types of products we still have to experiment I'm not sure if we can collaborate like our website can we do digital products there what are some different things eventually we'll probably be able to do all the above I think it's also interesting I was trying maybe somebody live knows what the percentages are um I one piece of information says that Instagram and Tik Tok take 5% of the transaction one thing that makes me nervous about YouTube is they take 30% of super chats and 30% of Channel memberships so there is I've seen High affiliate commissions through shopping as high as like 15% which is super high we get 4% on cameras here at think media so 15% sounds crazy but then it's like how well does it convert do people want to shop at these other stores I'm not I don't think you can do Amazon and so I still am going to go to Amazon because it's probably Better Price or it's the same as Adorama but I already have Prime it's going to be at my house in the next three hours because of shipping and infrastructure and distribution so that's where I'm at I don't know if that was clear but I'm kind of at it's it's a big deal it's a new opportunity for creators and I forgot to mention YouTube did just lower eligibility for monetization I think it's 3,000 no not 3,000 it's less Subs it's 3,000 hours of watch time it's less shorts three million shorts views whatever the new terms are however all that unlocks for you is not the YouTube Partner program it unlocks super chats shopping and which I think is amazing so I do think some C like creators should definitely not ignore this it's a real opportunity and if you dip your toes in it but don't end up like making much money or any money I don't think that's wasted time I think that the courageous bold creative people that don't quit the reason they win is because even if even if they quote unquote fail January February March April of 2024 failures are the Stepping Stones to success all of those learnings and experiments LED them to understand oh shoot now I know how to create a short and I understand this thing and I understand my percentage and I create a short and boom it gets a couple million views and now you've got a ,000 dollar a month of income coming in why because you went on offense in January of 2024 and leaned into some of these new features so that's why I'm not ignoring them but I do have some like I don't think it's going to fully take over for as soon as we think and so uh those are a few thoughts yeah just to add one thing to to the context as well you know Amazon affiliate links are are still you know making a lot of money for us and and a lot of the people in our community um but like this is kind of a good visual representation too of the the new integration that YouTube is evolving in what they want to happen is they're trying to make the viewer experience as seamless as possible so if you are talking about products instead of clicking on a link and going off YouTube and going to Amazon to buy um they want you to just do it all within the app and um I think it's going to take a little bit of time you know for this to really be super seamless but I do think uh if the affiliate commissions are even the same I think uh more people we're just seeing it on Tik Tok right all the Tik Tok shops like a lot of people are buying stuff off Tik Tok and so I think they're really trying to bring that over to the YouTube space and I think if they do it good enough um I think it it could help a lot of us who are making some money on Affiliates make even more because it will be such an easier like boom they buy they're back watching the video so I'm excited for it but that this is something to keep our eye on as it evolves and so definitely keep using you know Amazon affiliate links uh in your description best practice but this is is uh something cool that that could definitely help you make more money as as it develops a little bit more it's very heavy consumer facing here it's very heavy fashion they're saying their highest commission this is shopping. withyoutube docomo bar will give you 7% nean Marcus 15% um and as you navigate through here again you could see some of the other uh gifts for gamers holiday deals trending fashion that's where I kind of go back to where yeah maybe fashion makeup Beauty there's a heavier relevance there we're seeing less of maybe the tech consumer Tech anyways that it would be cool to watch this evolve and I know we have a couple final uh Trends to land the plane on here so let's hit the next one yeah this is this is more of a prediction that I have for 2024 and Beyond which is that the TV I believe is going to get replaced by YouTube um and let me kind of explain why I believe this and what I mean is like traditional television um and where seeing streaming apps and stuff but I really think like just take take a look at some of this so YouTube reaches more young adults than all the TV networks combined when I read that I was like I like whoa that's like that's pretty wild another one is YouTube TV is reportedly the only live TV provider to add subscribers in 2023 so um all the other ones are were on the decline and and YouTube TV I thought was interesting is uh you know different than like just you the YouTube app but it was on the rise and then the data also says that YouTube is currently outperforming Netflix Disney plus and Prime videos so we found this uh study and this was in 2023 but the number one app which is uh on mobile apps um and I guess it looks like this was throughout 2022 potentially but YouTube was it number one we have Netflix down there Amazon Prime down there um Disney plus so YouTube I really believe there's just a lot to be said when it comes to the actual television and seeing more people watch YouTube on their TV and a lot of uh people like me who don't have uh live TV anymore are canceling subscriptions and watching free content on YouTube and so I think this is a big opportunity for creators but not just maybe in the way You' think I think long form content gets there's different algorithms let me start with this there's a different algorithm when you open up YouTube on your phone and there's a different algorithm when you go downstairs you go to the TV and you open up YouTube You're GNA get different videos recommended and even on if you're on an iPad or if you're on a desktop you're going to get different videos recommended and they do this because they know how we react to the C the type of videos I watch on my TV are like lowii hipop or it's like long form podcasts and and I don't really watch those on my phone I'm not watching lowii hip hop on my phone right and so YouTube knows this and I've just noticed maybe you have too I'm getting a lot more long form content recommended on my TV and so I think um what's so cool about viewing YouTube on the TV is that if you're done watching on your TV and you're on the go you can play it on your phone and it it makes it you know so much easier and um I think it's really cool and I think it's uh some that we'll continue to see you know kind of TV viewership go down YouTube keep going up but then it brings us to the final one Sean which is podcasting and that's an A big one that I think a lot of people are watching on their TVs as well but uh talk to us about the opportunity here for podcasts yeah so the data is in YouTube is already the most used podcasting platform because of the size of YouTube so much bigger than Spotify and apple when you think about the video aspect of podcast being consumed whether that's you know h3h3 or call her daddy or the Logan Paul show or Joe Rogan now he did go to Spotify but even the clips if you consider that the data before maybe one or two years old was that YouTube is already bigger than Apple and Spotify fast forward to YouTube embracing YouTube music and going after the audio aspect of things and bringing more infrastructure to podcasts I think that the future looks crazy bright for YouTube and podcasting and what we see here on screen is time spent listening to podcast and how that continues to go up little by little over the years um and podcast integration on YouTube Here's my prediction I actually predict that YouTube will overtake audio as well as video because if you think about it like this if Spotify wanted to compete with YouTube and try to they're already dominating audio but they wanted to add video I don't want to call it impossible but like that that's like an undefeatable giant reverse it if YouTube wanted to take the audio game from others they're already a juggernaut and they already own so much video distribution so I think what'll be interesting is how much integration is there with YouTube music I think a fundamental thing they need to do is uh allow you to listen to audio with your lock screen on if you're not a YouTube premium user I think that opens up the world of possibility in terms to people passively listening to podcasts the video version but I also I I genuinely think if um if people were to you know Omar could Riff on this we're telling everybody to start a video podcast but if people only did an audio podcast I still think YouTube could have a dominance around that just because it becomes more of the just Goto platform people are already used to spending time there there's almost like nobody that doesn't use YouTube so why have to go somewhere else and that's my personal behavior is the way I consume podcasts is YouTube unless for some reason it's it's not available or there's some kind of difference so I think that the future is bright for podcasting it's a great time to get in sure competition is rising but this is why um our biggest message to you watching this stream as far as actions is you got to reinvent yourself you got to level up you got to skill up and I'm going to be doing a an upcoming podcast episode on the th media podcast about being in the top 2% this is interesting because if there is 51 million YouTube channels which that's about the rough data in 2024 that's the landscape sounds like a lot of competition but the good news is most have not uploaded recently and they've uploaded less than 10 videos so only about 2% of channels have more than 10,000 subscribers so I kind of came up with this concept called called the 2% if you can get over 10,000 subscribers you are bigger and by subscribers terms more successful than 98% of other creators if you just start a YouTube channel you're in the top 5% of people on YouTube because 95% of people don't even they didn't even start a channel so I think there's something powerful about just starting a channel you enter into at least initially being not just a consumer but now a Creator if you get over 10,000 Subs you are now in the top 2% of the platform and there's many people in our world in our community that have made a full-time living with 10,000 or less Subs bottom line is that how do you be in the top 2% just be willing to do what the 98% aren't willing to do and what is that 98% of people are usually not willing to buy and read a book 98% of people are not willing to invest in themselves and learn new skills 98% of people don't want to get uncomfortable and stretch themselves most people are afraid of uh negative comments and different things that will come their way there's no doubt about it there's a lot of pitfalls and challenges on the YouTube Journey but all you got to do is be in the top two% not minimizing that but if you can just elevate your cont if you could just and if if it is a supply and demand YouTube is looking at watch time click-through rate average view duration and so if Apple if all things were equal and your click-through rate was higher than the competitor because you mastered titles and thumbnails better just a little bit then you're going to get recommended and they're not all things being equal if you're average view duration was just a little bit higher so the application of wisdom to study audience retention storytelling communication editing these different skill sets which is our really is a good time to talk about 2024 that's what we're doing here on th media it's what we've always been doing and if if you can just get a little bit Above The Fray and above the crowd I think that the future is bright there's going to be a lot of uh challenges in podcasting but study being a good interview work on getting good guests study how people are doing hooks making it more interesting you just got to rise above the majority and that might sound tough but the majority usually gives up when it gets hard the majority usually won't get past episode 10 or 20 in a project if they get that far so if you just commit to continue to upload you just steep to the top 2% because the 98% will give up after four uploads the 98% will give up when it gets hard and so I think that podcasting is a big opportunity and I think for all of these different categories the takeaway is commit to learning new skills Reinventing yourself outworking outlasting out strategizing the competition and you got a big opportunity in 2024 it's really good yeah I I think it's funny how you say that because I you know I started my podcast in September of last year with just the commitment to upload one conversation a week uh on on my personal YouTube channel Channel and it's funny that you say that Sean you know episode 10 episode 10 is when my podcast had its first takeoff episode where YouTube started recommending my podcast to more people and because of the title the thumbnail and probably and the hook and then the conversation uh people started becoming fans of the podcast and then the next upload then I now now I'm experiencing like heavy momentum on my podcast when be but it was all because I pred decided and I think that's what people that is a 2% mentality is the predecision to know that rain or shine this is what I like to encourage people with don't be so concerned with the outcome of your output just focus on your outputs and then the outcomes let it happen obviously you know you w to you know do your research and like make sure your stuff is better like Sean mentioned but just focus on the outputs in 2024 that's what you can control you can control showing up consistently online you know uh it's so funny how how people are so uh easy to relinquish the responsibility of showing up I'm being Shadow ban dude from a professional content creator I would consider myself a professional content creator with air quotes uh I don't believe in shadowban I believe that great content gets seen by people like if you commit to putting out great content out there you know 2% style type of content it it it becomes easy to stand out at some point and I I I really do mean that and standing out I don't mean stand out with with heavy effects and heavy editing no I mean stand out as in you when I think about uh you know this idea or this industry or this topic I think about you that's standing out this you know that and so if that would be beneficial for your life and brand or business then I would I would totally just consider being consistent on YouTube this year what this live stream was really for or this conversation for it was just to break down some limiting beliefs show you some opportuni and based on where you see like the the the roads wide open like we want you to run and we want to help you in that this is why our our Channel both think media and the think media podcast exists is so that you don't do this alone and you have somebody in your ear along the way so that you don't you know get lost on this journey but no it's wide open man like I didn't know that episode 10 it would take off and then episode 13 just went past 110,000 views with uh an interview I did and and it's and honestly it was just it started with just the commitment to show up and I'm still showing up I was actually I I'll end with this and then you guys can pick it up I had a I had ran out of interviews I ran out I was like dang I have no more interviews let's just do a solo episode and I was like no I'm afraid I nobody cares about my solo episode and you know what I was like all right I'm gonna have like I have two people that are on my team that I pay to help me with video and help me with like admin test I was like you know what guys gen Z come in we're going to turn on cameras and that video that I was afraid of posting on episode 16 performed one out of 10 on YouTube is getting a ton of recommendation and so I'm just telling you Brick by Brick you got this like I I feel like I feel like this is your year to crush it on YouTube for sure one thing on that Omar is it's funny because I think people watching you would think that like Omar never is insecure about posting content like Omar's not scared but it's cool to hear you open up that like even even you have some insecurities to you know posting a video uh showing up on camera and um and so I think that can resonate with people that hey even Omar you know feels that way Sean I'm sure you you know feel that way sometimes too and so do I and so it's one of those things where yeah you really do Sean punch fear in the face it's like you it's a real thing and so I I love that thanks for sharing that okay so we already know this been here for a while but smash like if you've been getting value and there's a few things we still need you to know we do have a super chat we want to hit uh Nolan has an important video he wants you to know about um I actually think the most important stat for the future of 2024 um has not been shared yet and I'm going to share that in just a second but I want to remind you one more time or if you happen to just be jumping on and you didn't hear our New Year's sale is ending so our new year sale think Medias sale.com um is ending in three days or if you're watching this on the replay even less than that and so if you go to think Medias sal.com you could see all the details um in regards uh to that and this is our um it's something really cool we've never done before it's like a package of some different downloadable PDFs canva templates like additional canva templates for thumbnails our 51 money-making video ideas guide our AI for YouTube guide which we've researched the best tools put hundreds of hours into that it's only $57 and it includes a ticket to the YouTube road map work Workshop which let's get your entire YouTube plan dialed for 2024 and so let's plan out your productivity let's plan out your goals let's plan out the strategy that you're going to apply going forward that's happening this Saturday it's a three-hour event if you can't attend that live you can get the replay so anyways it's kind of a no-brainer if you're serious about YouTube this year think Medias sal.com if you're just kind of dabbling on YouTube no big deal it's probably not right for you uh but I think that there's a lot of ways you can spend $57 uh a shoe half a shoe it depends on what your shoes cost uh a red robin a milkshake and some fries or the uh complete package to growing a successful YouTube channel in 2024 okay listen to the stat before we hit the Super Chat Nolan in just a second I actually think as far as the state of YouTube what's happening in 2024 and Beyond well this this article from Goldman Sachs should shake you a little bit if you have not seen yet that Goldman Sachs research Goldman Sachs intelligence did an article about how the crater economy could approach a half a trillion dollars by 2027 to be specific at the math to be specific with the math what they break down is that essentially the total addressable Market which means like how much money is in the system how much money is available for for you for Nolan for Mr Beast for myself and for millions of creators because you might go oh it's it's crowded it's only the ones at the top it's not true there's all there's a whole long tale of success in the crater of eon economy it's worth about $250 billion dollar is how much money is in the system but some people smarter than me and probably smarter than most of us at Goldman Sachs are analyzing what's happening in the crater economy and what's coming in 2024 and they revealed that the creater economy could approach a half a trillion which another way to put that is that it's going to double in the next three years another way to put it is that the next three years are going to be the best three years in the Creator economy period that's what they're saying another way to put it is that I've been doing this YouTube thing since almost YouTube started YouTube started in 2005 I started my first Chan channel for my church in 2007 I've now been on YouTube for 17 years and according according to Goldman Sachs research the next three years everything's going to double that happened in the last 17 that's the way this math is coming out now my opinion that's what some smart Wall Street investors people that analyze the economics and look at the trajectory of what's happening the simple conclusion of that is that the the time to get in on this wave the time to start a channel is absolutely now we could debate all along I wish I would have started five years ago well everybody does but like the next best time to start is right now and so the next three years years are going to be the best three years in the crater economy but that little side quest I took there I did want to bring that all the way back to Omar and the success on his podcast or maybe Nolan myself think media the three silver play buttons we've got from other channels the gold play button we have from think media too many people underestimate just the sheer time it takes the patience the grit the skill development and what I actually wanted wanted to observe with Omar is yes uh he started new podcast and started posting some episodes and have got some good insights and has been killing it but I I also just want to remind you you Omar didn't just start a new podcast Omar's been coming has been becoming Omar for the last 10 years Nolan we all kind of have similar backgrounds but whether that's packing up lights and going on shoots whether that's editing videos for hours in hotel rooms whether that's uh interviewing different people and and doing really crappy interiew interviews and kind of like sucking and we were horrible questions whether that's putting out videos we thought were going to be great and then falling flat whether that's just working in different environments what's the point I just want to encourage you from Nolan and Omar myself perspective people are just underestimating they overestimate what they can accomplish in one year and they underestimate what they can accomplish in five to 10 too many of us get so fixated on like 2024 is my year man dude in the next year I'm about to go to I'm going to be like Omar he started a new thing and in six months he did and yeah but but also that skill set so I'm not actually trying to talk you off of your dreams I'm trying to talk you into the right mindset that if you're only judging by the next 12-month window I actually think you're gonna lose you have listen to what he said Omar was like I just decided I'm gonna upload once a week and I know he made that commitment if he hadn't had the feedbook back Loop of success that his episodes have had he was committed to once a week knowing because he's also been through this routine and we all have now and noan has started a new channel on the the last year as well same thing oh it didn't pop in the first week it didn't pop in the first month oh it didn't pop in the first four months well I'm commit I know this works I'm going to keep working the system I'm gonna work a system I know this works so anyways in a 2024 World I want to encourage you the next three years are going to be the best three years in the creater economy but your breakout moment it might not happen in the next 12 months and that's okay that's not didn't happen for me didn't happen for any we just happen to be kind of doing this thing for a while but I want to encourage you where could you be in the next year and a half where could you be going into 2026 you're not going to be ready for 2026 if you don't start sharpening your skills now practicing putting out some bad videos putting out some stuff that's kind of embarrassing putting yourself in just different situations where you learn you experiment our our belief is really sometimes you win sometimes you learn failures are the Stepping Stones to success I want to get as many failures under my belt as possible possible in 2024 so that I have more feedback loops so I'm better positioned to crush it in 2025 and Beyond and I want to also alleviate some anxiety that of course you want to crush it as much as you can in the next 12 months but but what if you commit to this where are you going to be in year four and year five as this thing continues to rise I think that's a winning mindset that'll be really helpful so uh just wanted to share that rant okay Nolan hit this Super Chat absolutely love it and Sean I I want wanted to throw this back to you because I'm curious how you would answer this um the question Tommy thank you so much for the Super Chat the question is would it be too much for me to do Fitness gaming and motivation on my channel Sean give us a sneak peek into the Saturday Road road map the workshop people are coming in and they have multiple passions and what's your what's your what's your answer to them what should they be doing this year to to grow their Channel I think thing number one is too many people are asking about what are my multiple passions instead of asking about what's the viewer passion I think actually yes you shouldn't detach your passion from your YouTube channel but I think you should think about the viewer first if you want to be successful because if we're talking about solving problems in the marketplace or a business mindset entrepreneurs solve problems for a profit and the biggest mistake novice entrepreneurs make is they make a business out of novelty and entertainment for themselves as opposed to they make a business in service of a particular customer now this isn't really the language that we use on YouTube and sometimes the way I'm talking could sort of kill the creative Spirit but this is why more creatives need this mindset because there's too many Starving Artists and real artists Don't Starve and so there's something about going into it saying what does the viewer want and Tommy I actually my answer is actually it could work if you've themed it together that you are never uploading videos your subscribers didn't subscribe for if your subscribers if because because by the way gaming could be connected to Fitness but if what you're telling me is you're going to make videos like s suik and you're going to do like Fitness weightlifting videos and then on Fridays you play Minecraft and then on Saturdays you review your latest personal development book no that would be too much and that would be a horrible strategy but I think people miss the opportunity of theming like it's sometimes to go well this person does multiple things yeah but their Channel it it touches a particular type of person it connects with a particular type of viewer I like to follow you know channels that are for entrepreneurs that might hit mindset Fitness so they hit Health they hit mindset they hit business advice fine what was the niche though the niche is who's it for entrepreneurs that want to be Fit Energy uhal fit energetic healthy business advice so if you can it's the Creator who understands the viewer best wins to your point Nolan we don't have enough time to really unpack that we're going to be focusing heavy on this because to get your positioning right to get your Niche right to get your channel right and for some you're one or two small tweaks away maybe in your branding and messaging that could tie it all together and it's not that you're a variety channel it's that the variety of content on your channel makes sense because there's a clear brand a clear theme there's a clear value proposition to the subscribers that the channel is intended for on the flip side is the other half or maybe more so of those that are are watching here live or on the replay you might be in a mentality where no you are doing too many things on the channel and one upload builds things up while the next upload tears it down because you're you're just trying to cram too many Divergent topics and there is no through line there is no unifying brand and you're confusing the algorithm and your strategy is doomed to fail think media cell.com but that I mean what's funny is like Sean's being motivational right now but we're giving YouTube advice so a lot of it you know if motivation could come I know when people say motivating it's like are do you want to force your you know ideas and beliefs on people versus just help them you know a lot of people write their first books and they they write Memoirs and they're like what do you think about my Memoirs like I don't know if anybody cares about you but what people care about is what they what they care about so what people care about is what they care about and so if you can make content around people's cares concerns problems you will see uh success on YouTube Boom I yeah I absolutely love that um thank you Firebird bricks because think media content advice has helped me stay focused and grow from 2,000 subscribers to 39,000 subscribers in 2023 and you guys I believe this is your year 2024 is your year and so if you actually just want to go a little bit deeper I think you guys should click on the screen check out this video because Omar and I we go deep on how to actually grow your channel in 20124 we'll see you guys in the next video peace
