yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah this isn't what it looks like in a perfect world every great game would sell well and every bad game would be left to rot in the bargain bins of department stores everywhere unfortunately this isn't the case because for every million selling triple-a title and every well marketed abomination there's always that one great game that gets left in the dust like that misunderstood genius in the corner of the classroom gamers seem to flock towards the recognizable names while ignoring fresh faces that have tons of potential so today I'm counting down 10 games that deserve more attention I know this is basically my equivalent of an underrated games list or games I like but no one else does but I'm calling it my top 10 underappreciated gems mainly because underrated is such a hard topic to actually gauge and in all honesty silly acronyms really aren't my thing anyway the standard rules apply and if there's a game that I don't mention on this list that you think deserves more attention feel free to recommend it to me because I'm always up for expanding my horizons and with all that said it's game time we all know that suda51 is a mad genius his games are always packed with crazy over-the-top action and zany characters I mean we have an assassin chopping down hordes of mooks in an effort to get laid a hitman with seven personalities a cheerleader moonlighting as a zombie hunter and an animal man piloting a time warping plane with what OKC named aura isn't exactly what you'd expect from sudha but that doesn't mean that it's still not tons of fun because it certainly is for one thing its art style is a lot darker and grittier than the pseudo norm it takes place in a dieselpunk world and broiled in a bitter conflict over time travel on whatnot the action is fast and frantic with tons of crazy crap to avoid and loads of enemies to shoot down the gameplay mechanics are what really make this game stand out however the timer is basically your life meter in this game you had time to the clock by shooting enemies and lose time by taking damage also depending on your choice of powerup you have the ability to slow down freeze or even reverse time yeah try to handle this with your 1.21 jigowatts on top of that some of the level designs are really creative hiding in trash to avoid getting burned up new one on me and some of the boss fights are just plain awesome when it comes down to it see Na Mora is a fun game in fact it's probably in my top 10 2d shooters into a future list maybe we all know that Hideo Kojima is a mad genius most people know him as the mastermind behind the acclaimed Metal Gear series but most of his other works seem to go unnoticed in particular the book toy series these games took a cool vampire-hunting stealth game and combined it with a solar sensor in the cartridge which used actual sunlight to power elements of the game however they failed to sell well due to a slight oversight on Kojima's part now correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know most gamers don't play out side Oh which is why this spot goes to the DS game lunar Nights it gives you all the action of the GBA titles without any of that outdoor [ __ ] the folk toy series has focused on a conflict between humans and vampires and in lunar Nights the bloodsuckers have gained the upper hand with casket armor that protects them from the Sun and technology that lets them alter the very weather the game follows two heroes who are out to stop them Lucian who wields dark power and melee weapons and Aaron who wields sunlight in his arranged fighter throughout the game you slay hordes of undead take down the vampires and free the terrestrials that unlock new powers also there are stylus driven cast at rocket stages to break up the action those are pretty fun and he asked me interesting thing though the Japanese version actually had a crossover with Mega Man Star Force wonder why the people in the West never got that was book type that unpopular in the States man we must hate innovation or playing outside one of the two next up is an anime game no we're looking for something a little more manly oh my mo sundar you that's more like it I've taken quite a liking to Fist of the North Star of late however its representation in America has been extremely lacking that is until we got Fist of the North Star Ken's rage this game was not only a lot of fun but it was a great representation of the manga and anime which was based this game offers plenty of playable characters with their major fighting styles intact as well as various ways to develop their skills throughout the two major modes in the legend mode you replayed the story of the anime punching your way through hordes of random mooks to reach epic battles from the franchise the first tussle would lead to the final showdown with Rao in dream mode you conquer areas of each map by plowing through even more hordes of random mooks to strengthen your own forces in a what-if scenario sounds like a dynasty Warriors game doesn't it well even though the American title does indicate it it actually is of course being an option of the dynasty Warriors games some people would stand that it's a button masher I'm not one of those people good keep it that way hmm yes sir okay that was awkward now where was I oh yeah all of the signature moves of the series characters are in the game including the iconic adding to the experience is a rockin soundtrack with some awesome themes including a rock cover of the original theme of the anime word of advice though stick to the Japanese voice acting bottom line Fist of the North Star Ken's rage is a satisfying game that actually does justice to the manliest enemy ever in spite of what the critics say about it take lessons Naruto Bomberman is a favorite series of mine and one of my favorite entries is Bomberman 64 apparently I'm not alone in fact it was extremely well-liked within the franchise sadly the same cannot be said about the second attack while previous Bomberman games relied more on blast enemies to pixel bits and bomberman 64 combined set blasting with various puzzle elements this game was more of an adventure the action was still good old Bomberman which I love there are still plenty of puzzle elements throughout the game which are solved through the use of the elemental stones you collect throughout the game these stones give your bombs new powers such as ice wind and electricity and are used in some very creative ways the second attack also introduced pommy a companion who could evolve depending on what food you collected tommy was the first of the Cara bombs who would appear in a few later games such as Bomberman generation of course what would Bomberman be without some awesome multiplayer well would be Bomberman hero but anyway second attack has several modes to play with friends and it's Jeon ik as always heck they even brought back the custom parts from the first Bomberman 64 so why was this a sales dud it just makes me wish for a new bomberman game even more a Konami you listening to me I want to blow [ __ ] up in a video game well at least there's the next entry on the list no I couldn't find music from this particular game clear that's gonna have to settle for battle force tanto instead now here's a game that's been absolutely bashed by the critics tank tank tank is a Wii U launch title that was ported from an arcade game and it satisfies the itch to just go to town on giant monsters like no tomorrow the basic idea is pretty much as basic as basic gets giant monsters are attacking the city go stop them so what do you have to combat the encroaching Chi q just a little green tank and some of the most ridiculously overblown weaponry available not to mention enough explosions to give Michael Bay a run for his money you got lasers missiles Gatling guns you name it it is a blast to play with friends whether they're teaming up to take the monsters down or blasting the ever living crap out of each other there's even a mode where the player with the gamepad takes control of a giant mechanical Kong don't have friends to play with well there's a campaign mode where you earn a crapload of tanks with even more ridiculous weapons there's even a tank that shoots explosive apples I'm gonna smash these monsters with apples so why do people turn away from this game my guess the initial price tag not full retail but enough to scare some people away well it's free to play on the eShop now so it's worth checking out though I do wish there was online play hey Namco you missed a huge opportunity here maybe that's why sales tanked wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute there's an underappreciated Megaman game well yeah I kind of mentioned it during top 10 healers you know Mega Man X command mission yeah I mentioned the abomination that was x7 outsold this game what I didn't tell you was every main game in the x-series outsold it yeah it's an RPG and a fairly linear one for that matter but to be blunt I don't care so why do I like this overlooked title several reasons first it has a nice story long story short a maverick named epsilon who isn't Sigma for a change is raising Cain on Giga City Island so X gathers up a posse to take him down there are some pretty cool characters to a view alongside x0 and axel you've got the gambler spider the heavy hitter Massimo the thief Mariano and cinnamon who as I've said before it's absolutely adorable each of these characters has an action trigger to use in battle as well as a hyper mode to temporarily buff their abilities the gameplay is solid as well the battle system is simple in Easter pickup and you can actually see the turn order there's also a special type of equipment in this game called force metal which boosts your abilities as long as you don't go overboard on top of that there's a ton of collectables and other stuff to unlock and some excellent boss battles as well as some slamming techno tracks and the voice acting will make you forget X 7 entirely heatproof they made axel sound not annoying if you keep this behaving you won't get your snap I'm curious don't worry zero wanting to get out with that bike to sum this up Mega Man X command mission is a fun RPG that manages to do justice to the franchise it's a real shame that this game didn't sell better just because it was different a lot of people say that most control is nothing more than a gimmick but even gimmicks can be a good thing it used effectively and while we motionplus allowed for a lot of new possibilities even the early days of that we had some great uses for the Wii Remote and Capcom really had a winner with Zack and wiki quest for Barbarossa's treasure yeah it's colorful in the humorous but that's one of the things I love about it basically Zacks a pirate and wiki's a monkey captor belt bang and they're trying to find the parts of this old pirate dude with the promise of untold treasure why do I get the feeling that this won't end well anyways where this game really shines is in its gameplay it's a point and click adventure where you guide our swashbuckling duo to solve a variety of puzzles to reach the goal the awesome thing is the various ways the Wii Remote is implemented basically where you find a mechanism where the Wii Remote is used the motion is pretty much the same as if you are actually using the mechanism yourself that's pretty slick some of the puzzles can be pretty tricky and you'll need to get really creative if you want the high score however one side thing I really love is well check this out hey wait I love it also the game has a great soundtrack that uses adventure with every track it's also got plenty of secrets to keep you coming back for more to put it simply Zak and wiki is a game that's bursting with charm that leave you scratching your head and loving every minute of it unless you don't like exercising your grey matter every once in a while okay I don't care what anyone says the critics can laugh and the hardcore crowd can mock me all they want but I like Arcana r3 now I can understand some of the criticism behind this game but some of it's for bad reasons look just because it has an all-female cast anime art style doesn't mean it's a game that strict the Douro tacos and weeaboos behind all that mo wait there's a genuinely fun and enjoyable fighting game while at first glance it seems like a standard 5 button fighting game there are a couple things that this game and its series bring to the table the biggest element of the game that separates it from other fighters is the concept of the Arcana each of the 23 playable characters has one of these spirits as a partner that you can actually choose which Arcana you bring into a fight that means there's a total of 500 29 character combinations to play with whoa that's a lot also there's a higher emphasis on aerial combat than most fighting games this is mostly attributed to the use of the homing - it takes getting used to but once you do there's a lot of fun to be had as for the characters they pretty much cover nearly 95% of female anime character types but there are at least somewhat likeable with a few glaring exceptions and their fighting styles are extremely varied not only bad but many of the finishers in this game are a poor feast for the eyes my major complaint with Arcana r3 is the lack of mode you just had your basic story mode score attack versus mode and training that yet however it's still a lot of fun and it's just another example of a game whose true worth lies behind its exterior if you know someone who has it at least give it a shot before you pass judgment on it that reminds me Castlevania judgment okay why do people hate this game it's because it's a fighting game and a franchise based on awesome platformers and decent to crappy 3d action games well is it so bad to try something different I for one appreciate when a franchise tries to break away from the norm it's because of the anime like character designs well the character design was handled by the manga of Death Note of course they're going to look like enemy characters is it all the alleged Lich's because I sure as hell don't remember any sorry just a little worked up there anyway castlevania judgment is a fighting game which brings characters from across the franchise to beat the everliving or none living crap out of one another the free roaming combat feels a lot like Power Stone complete with objects that you can throw at your opponent on top of that the sub weapons make an appearance and the combos are easy to perform and understand making it a good game for beginners and experts alike also the hyper attacks in this game can be just breathtaking I mean look at this there's also a wide variety of modes to play through besides your standard arcade vs and survival modes there's a story mode which features one of the coolest characters ever and the castle mode which tests your skills in various different ways you can even earn accessories to pimp out your character try and get the time Reaper masks I dare you the online play is fun as well if you can get a good match which isn't a problem for me since I have maverick Andy and my friend list bottom line Castlevania judgement is a good game and it boggles my mind to get so much hate my only major gripe is how they portrayed a few of the characters specifically Erik and Maria stupid owl okay we're almost done here before we hit number one cue the recap number 10 Sienna Mora number 9 lunar Nights number 8 Fist of the North Star Ken's rage number 7 Bomberman 64 the second attack number 6 tank tank tank number 5 Mega Man X command mission number 4 Zach & wiki quest for Barbarossa's treasure number 3 Arcana hard 3 and number 2 Castlevania judgement usually when a great game is critically acclaimed and has great marketing it usually sells well but sometimes even that's not enough I mean Nintendo hype the hell out of sin upon us with star successor and it's still sold poorly why this game is amazing it has everything an action fan could want and hardly anyone bought it seriously guys how many of you only know about this game because of CJ whatever the point is there is a lot to love about this game basically what the story boils down to is boy a sin to kill girl boy and girl form unlikely friendship and now boy and girl are on the run from military organization but who cares about the plot in a game like this I mean look at all this crazy crap I mean there is enemies everywhere and there's bullets and missiles all over the place you're going to be shooting flying slashing dodging in the fighting until the cows come home survive in this game you've got to be aware of where your character is in order to avoid all of these obstacles in other words multitasking is a must to get to the end but it's just so satisfying to shoot down hordes upon hordes of enemies and just watch that score shoot up and then post it to the leaderboard where you'll find tons of people even higher than you oh and get used to seeing that game over screen a lot because you will die in this game and you will die off it that's how challenging this game is he'll be scrambling to die Jenna me fire and reaching for every health powerup you can get the level design of the seven stages can get very creative at times as well and it just adds to the fun on top of that this game has some of the most ridiculously crazy boss battles I have ever seen I mean the look at this I'm sorry but my what the [ __ ] meter just broke I'm serious when I say that the fact that more people haven't bought this game is just a conundrum I mean with its awesome presentation white-knuckle thrill a minute action and insane boss battles sin and Punishment star successor has definitely earned its place at number one seriously if you have a Wii play this game you will not regret it I'm the quarter guy and if you're wondering why I didn't put any called classics on this list well I can't do that less centralized player earthbound you
