ladies and gentlemen Michael palmisano here and here's one to absolutely ruffle all the feathers of all my fellow tool Heads This is my top five tool songs now check it we're gonna do one because the drums one because the bass one because the guitar one because the vocals and one because it's the full Perfect Tool song now I know you're all going to have your own choices drop them in the comments but we're gonna start with the drums because you're only ever as good as your drummer and when you have Danny Carey you're pretty much the best band in the land so let's start out with everyone's favorite as cliche as it might be you know why because it's badass it's 46 and 2. thank you foreign [Music] I mean that's probably the most badass drum part Phil in any song any genre ever number two let's go with guitar okay Adam Jones has always had one of my favorite guitar sounds of all time him with those massive humbuckers through those diesel amps is just brutal again go see tool if you see no other band the one I picked today is jamby jamby I don't know how you say it but this intro riff right here is about as heavy and simple and evil as it gets check it [Music] [Music] thank you foreign so this features there's so many cool things but this him matching like the Tom work it's just perfect this is such percussive metal guitar playing and all of us that are metal fans it's Rhythm first you know this right so that percussiveness tied in with these just evil tonalities this is in drop D you're coming in with the minor third that [Music] to the flat five okay to the flat nine flat seven deck bitching now this part is really hard to do I can't do it the way Adam does it but you can kind of cheat and go like ah it's not even it right [Music] right ridiculous now he does this little pull through thing all right we're just so hard to do you can kind of see so ridiculous [ __ ] tool number three the bass um Justin's bass tone so filthy so disgusting but it's also so so clean and like the rigid exterior with that fat transparent middle just like it just it it's metallic and grindy but yet it it fills everything it's just so aggressive and so tight and this is going to be an odd pick for a lot of you but this is vicarious I love this song so damn much I'm going to zoom in to the part around 3 25 okay and it also has perhaps my favorite breakdown ever a little later let's start at 3 25 ish [Music] listen to that tone [Music] why did I pick this because as a bass player okay one of the biggest things that no one talks about is note duration right you can funk hitting on the one every time but your one has a length right your end of four has a length whatever length you want the drums started the bass completes it right it's attack and it falls it follows that distance right Justin does such a phenomenal job making all of his all the lengths of his note the perfect punctuation and accentuation did you tie that in with the tone and it's just brutal this is a three-piece band now check it we're gonna go on to the ending [Music] foreign [Music] lyrics Maynard James Keenan what can you say about the man the myth [ __ ] I mean I don't even I mean Legend doesn't even put it doesn't even give it context the one I picked my favorite one and yeah there are so many deep Cuts there's so many deep heady things that he talks about and like you know it's just you guys know but the one I picked is hooker with the penis now why would I pick that one because you know what as an artist as someone who makes something for a living that only they can make right we all feel it internally and people tell us and there's like this thing in the world that you're not supposed to make money on what you do it's supposed to be some artistic expression that is for everyone and it's all the time and you're supposed to feel like this innate guilt about selling things about selling your art because it's supposed to be blah blah blah blah blah blah he comes out and just trashes the fans right to their face over and over again it is Relentless and it is still in just about every set list to this day screaming to the fans about how you're all the man we're all the men just shut up and buy it is such a powerful visceral expression like it is such it's it's the thing you're not supposed to say and they say it as loud as an Unapologetic is possible for all artists and for all fans just to chew on Love It [Music] and this part at the end let me read these lyrics and again one of my favorite breakdowns ever all you read and wear or see and hear on TV is a product begging for your fat ass Dirty Dollar shut up and buy buy my new record send more money and then of course earmuffs you end with the whole crowd shouting [ __ ] you buddy [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] just just over the top and last but not least full song the song which if I could and again this is an impossible pick an impossible pick but one that I think wraps up tool in a nutshell Perhaps Perhaps the perfect tool song right not the deepest cut not the most you know but there is no radio friendly Tool song but not the uh the most successful one but the one that I think it just has a perfect message perfect vocal delivery you got all the different feels you know you got the bass changing um you got the guitar coming over top where like the pieces by themselves
