hey what's up my friends my name is bill welcome to cars at last on today's video the top five best small sport utility vehicles that lasts more than 200,000 miles now if you're new to my youtube channel I study the car marketplace I love cars that are affordable reliable and are known to last a long time I've got some great data on these vehicles let's get started today's viewer ride comes from one of my viewers named Mike he has a 2002 rav4 with three hundred and seventy two thousand miles that's on the original engine however it's on the second transmission stay tuned for more information on the rav4 and Mike's transmission now maybe you've seen some of my other videos typically I like to look for cars that can last 300,000 miles also at the end of this video there's a list of about 15 vehicles that I considered for this study so take a look at that if you don't see your vehicle in the top 5 this data is based on the percentage of vehicles that are available for sale across the United States with more than 200,000 miles now not included in the top 5 is the honorable mention of the day it is the Ford Escape Hybrid a number of my viewers have commented about the Ford Escape Hybrid being a taxi vehicle in New York City and there are 4 Ford Escape hybrids with more than 300 thousand miles and the highest one had three hundred and seventy four thousand miles overall the Ford Escape Hybrid finished in eighth place with more than 200 thousand miles and the regular non hybrid escape finished in tenth place so car number five is the subaru forrester vehicles in the study range from 1998 to 2010 out of 657 foresters 10% had more than 200,000 miles there was 0 foresters above 300 thousand miles the highest mileage was a 2001 model with 275 thousand miles now there are a lot of satisfied subaru forrester owners especially having all-wheel-drive in winters like we have here in minnesota but there are some problems with foresters that you should be aware of one of the biggest problems with older Subarus including Forester from 1999 to 2010 a very common problem with these cars is bad head gaskets this can be a $1600 repair head gaskets will go out anywhere from a hundred to two hundred thousand miles in general in addition older foresters also have timing belts through 2010 2011 they moved to a timing chain so if you're buying an older Subaru including the Forester or even the Outback you can run into a head gasket repair and a timing belt that could set you back twenty three hundred dollars or more now one of the recent development with this older Subarus from 2010 to 2014 the Subaru Forester does have the Takata airbag basically what that means is they were defective airbags if a Takata airbag goes off it can send shrapnel into the passenger's of the vehicle which can be very hazardous car number four is gonna be a surprise yep Pontiac Aztek and a Buick Rendezvous what these cars were available from 2001 to 2005 they were not huge sellers it came with a 3.4 liter v6 but surprisingly a number of these vehicles have made it more than 200 thousand miles now the Aztek and the rendezvous were basically the same vehicle one was Pontiac one was Buick thirteen point three eight percent of all vehicles had more than 200,000 miles and four of these vehicles had more than 300,000 miles the highest mileage was a 2004 Aztec with 333,000 miles they come in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions now I remember when the Pontiac Aztek came out I know there are quite a few people that said wow that's quite a design these vehicles have the potential of have a cult-like following I kind of wonder if they're gonna fall into the lines of the AMC Pacer or gremlin where they start to have some sort of collectability status just based on their funky looks now the biggest issues with these vehicles in 2001 the 2002 there were both electrical issues and head gasket failures who knows maybe we'll see a Pontiac Aztek on a barrett-jackson auction twenty years from now car number three is the Toyota rav4 the Toyota rav4 stands for recreational activity vehicle four-wheel drive vehicles in the study were from 1996 to 2010 out of 433 vehicle 17% had more than 200,000 miles to rav4s at above 300,000 miles the highest was a 2008 model with 329 thousand miles now RAF forests have been proven to be fairly reliable but there are some issues with some of these vehicles early 2000s from 2001 to 2003 had transmission failure as I mentioned in the beginning of this video my viewer Mike who submitted his 372 thousand mile rav4 did have to replace the transmission under warranty by Toyota but that transmission has had some issue especially if you're having some hard shifting issues watch out for that now some rav4s also have been impacted by the Takata airbag recall so check the model for that from 2006 to 2008 the four-cylinder engine in the rav4 has issues with burning oil now this is the engine code to a Z - EFI this four-cylinder engine has been in other models as well such as the Camry and Corolla it is a common issue for this engine cart number two is the Honda CRV from 1997 to 2011 there were 958 vehicles of which 24% had more than 200,000 miles four had more than 300,000 miles the highest mileage was a 2002 model with 337 thousand miles now this comes with the 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine the CRV stands for comfortable runabout vehicle now the CRV and the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine have proven to be fairly reliable now Honda has also been plagued by the Takata airbag recall models from 2002 to 2011 have been impacted by the way the Takata airbag recall means that you need to get your vehicle into the dealer and they will replace the airbag free of charge another common problem with older CRVs the early 2000s models the air conditioning can stop working and that could be an expensive repair of $1500 or more and finally car number 1 this might surprise a few of you it's a Honda Element a little bit like a box on wheels the years in this study were from 2003 to 2011 which incidentally that's when production ended there were 314 vehicles and out of those 27 percent had more than 200,000 miles the highest was a 2008 model with over 350 2000 miles now this year is the same engine the 2.4 liter that's in the CRV Honda coming in at number two and number one in the 2.4 liter that's a pretty good sign now the Honda Element also has a little bit of a cult-like following the seats can be moved and folded down creating a massive cargo space in the back a number of drivers have reported Rock chips because the windshield is so upright over all the elements have been fairly reliable this vehicle is also subject to the Takata airbags earlier models had some seat belt issues and according to Scotty Kilmer he did a video on an element recently he said replacing the starter on an element was a very difficult task just something to be aware of overall Honda comes in at number two and number one with the 2.4 liter four-cylinder it was based on my money I certainly would take a look at those vehicles alright well if you haven't heard I created a new book it's called should you buy a cheap car if you're in the market place for a vehicle $2,000 unless I put together my thoughts it's free it's available on the download that's listed in the information below now as always have your vehicle inspected prior to any purchases to make sure that you're covering any recalls and technical service bulletins there are a lot of issues out there with some of these used vehicles I hope you find this information helpful what has been your experience I'd love to hear your comments please comment below hit like if you liked the video I've got a lot more great videos coming your way out of cars that last to my subscribers you guys are awesome thank you so much for subscribing and supporting me we'll see you next time and thanks so much for watching [Music] [Music] [Music]
