what are the top five things most likely to get you pulled over [Music] hey guys what's going on I hope you were having a fantastic start of your week so far I reached out to you guys and asked you what do you want to see as a video topic and the most up voted one was from waggle detail who wanted me to do a top 5 list of the things that are most likely going to get you pulled over excluding speeding after being a cop for a while there are certain things that you might notice on the road that the average person doesn't and most of these are common sense but not something people actively look for like we do most people driving around are kind of in their own world these days between texting social media people listening to their music people are very distracted these days on the road and even cops are distracted at times we're listening to the radio we're trying to figure out where different people are we might be looking at the computer to try to figure out the details of call that we might be in route to but spending such a large chunk of our lives on the road I'm sure you guys can imagine we see a lot of dumb things over the years number 5 texting and driving texting actually starts the same as drunk driving if you're behind a vehicle they look kind of similar you'll see somebody weaving in and out of their lane and you pull up next to them a little bit behind them they don't notice you and they have their phone 3 inches from their face I actually stopped somebody for this recently and the excuse that she gave me was anyway at the time I was parked between two bushes and I was watching the traffic that was going by and there was a lady that literally had her phone this far away from her face so I pull out behind her and within 1/2 of a mile she hits either the center line or the outside line three times so I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because it takes some time to send a message and I was going under the assumption that she was going to put her phone down and correct her driving however we got up to an intersection that had been red for at least two or three seconds and she just drives right through it without any attempt to slow down at all so I pull her over I walk up to the car I get her information this lady had the audacity to blame her chemotherapy treatments for her actions on the road and normally I'm gonna say guys normally that that probably would have done the trick for me I probably would have been like well just try to be more careful have a nice day but I we saw her on her phone driving by and it wasn't like looking down like it was the road she could there was no way she could see the road so I end up writing her two citations one for texting and driving which is illegal in Georgia and the second one was failure to obey a traffic control device as soon as I walk up there I explain the citations to her and her nice attitude went straight out the window she says you're really going to write a ticket to somebody with cancer well when you say it like that I sound kind of like an but hypothetically lady let's say you would have t-bone and killed a family going through that red light maybe we should just give you a break then to sign hard five copies number four aggressive drivers everyone drives like Miss Daisy when they see a patrol car anywhere in the vicinity but sometimes in heavy traffic we might be nestled in somewhere that you don't necessarily see us and guys this happens several times every single day I'll be sitting at a red light in the straight line of traffic and I have the turn lane to my left row of cars goes through no problem light turns yellow and out of nowhere a bat out of hell comes flying past all of us in their little freakin Honda Civic light turns red they go through the intersection now everybody's looking at me through their mirror like are you gonna do something I guess I don't have much of a choice now do I that will get you a ticket an aggressive driving also applies to other things there are lots of instances of road rage on the road so people that are like three inches from somebody's bumper trying to get them to move over although it's aggravating when you do have a slow driver in the left lane still you shouldn't be riding somebody's ass that's a safety hazard and I'm sure that you guys with your experience on the road you can insert your own experiences on times you've had to deal with an aggressive driver number three equipment violations equipment violations are one of those very tricky things for me I am NOT a big believer in writing citations for equipment violations like headlights out brake lights out things like that unless they are the sole cause of an accident having no tag lights for instance is not a safety hazard for anybody but is it still a ticket Abul offense yes but I can tell you guys right now as a new officer you are going to look like a dumbass when the judge is looking over his glasses at you like dude really when that's the only case you have in court is a tag light but even with that being said equipment violations are still fair game for a traffic stop and I have made many of arrests driving on suspended license no insurance warrants all based off of an equipment violation you would be surprised how many people are driving on the road with no insurance and with a suspended license or no license at all and I find a lot of them with equipment violation stops number two stop signs from an officer's point of view we are always paying attention to what other drivers are doing so when you come up to an intersection and there's a vehicle that's coming to a stop it's natural that you want to see if they're going to make a complete stop or not or if you should initiate a traffic stop in Georgia the full sensation of your vehicle must come to a complete stop at a stop sign otherwise it's no good but if I stopped every person I saw doing a California roll through a stop sign I would have I wouldn't get anything done in my shift I would write a whole book of tickets which is I think 25 tickets in one shift but from an officer's perspective the thing that we usually look for is the wheel I pay attention to the wheels it can look like a car is gonna stop all day long but the wheels don't lie if they're turning you're moving I can't tell you how many times people have tried to argue in court I came to a stop no your wheels we're still moving but again I don't like tickets for every stop sign violation I see especially if you're at an intersection where there's no trees there's no bushes there's no buildings you can see like a clear line of sight both ways and you just happen not to come to a full stop I'm not gonna write you the ticket for that I'm not even gonna stop you for that but there are cops that will number one would probably be speeding but the person that originally requested this video specifically did not want speeding in here so number one is the UI you go to the bar late at night you have a few drinks with your boys you head out you think you feel fine blasting your music not realizing that we are behind you watching you do this in your lane the worst are people that are drunk trying to text their wife or their girlfriend or both and dealing with drunk people is such a pain in people are either crying or they want to fight or they want to argue very rarely you get somebody that's just very compliant and okay so that is why it is so important really for any stop but certainly with DUI to have it recorded from the start because when they get up in front of the judge and there's crocodile tears coming down you can show the judge how much of an they really were anyway guys that is it for today
