hey everybody I'm back this is Chris Kiefer this is the Rocky Mountain atv/mc calm top five tips for cornering technique to improve your cornering skills you could probably go a lot of places to learn how to corner and everyone's a little bit different there's millions of trainers out there there's all kinds of people that tell you how to corner but I'm gonna break down the basics so tip number one I can tell you guys out there is think about the corner before you get to it so as you can see in this video I'm coming down a hill into there's like three inside ruts so you kind of want to go a little bit wider and set yourself up to get into the rut to carry more speed if you're far inside you're gonna have to drag your rib break and then square it up and then get in the rut and then you're gonna be off-center so always make sure you're arcing your corners you're going wide to inside and if you can't go wide make sure you're somewhere where you can get into the rut nicely and not straight into it because that's a bad thing so tip number two probably the most important out of these five that I'm giving you is body positioning if you're body positioning is off your bike is going to do things that you don't want it to do and always remember you're in control of the bike the bike shouldn't be in control of you if you get tired pull off you don't want to get whiskey throttle and go off the berm you want to keep riding you don't want to ride the couch so body positioning coming into the corner elbows bent one or two fingers on the clutch always looking ahead never look down at your fender because you always want to know where you're going one or two fingers on the front brake entering the corner and don't forget guys try to always ride on the balls of your feet I'm guilty of it I always here's your foot peg that is bad move it back I consciously always when I ride tell myself put my foot back you want to ride on the balls of your feet very important you get more leverage so one or two fingers on the clutch one or two fingers on the brake elbows bent on the balls of your feet and coming into the corner in the tack position so if your bike hits something you're body positioning is ready for it we kind of cover a little bit this and tip - but tip number three is always looking ahead no matter if it's cornering or not so in corners entering the corners you ought if you're 100 to 200 feet away you want to see the corner from there already you want to know what you're going to hit decide which line you're going to take and be prepared you can't be prepared for things that you don't see if you're looking down at your front fender you're not gonna see what's 50 feet in front of you it could be a downed rider it could be a rock it could be a square edge it could be a kicker on a jump so always remember to keep your eyes focused just ahead you don't have to go way out here just straight out ahead 100 feet plenty plenty of time for you to react to make sure the bike is going where you want it to go tip number four if you watch the pros you'll see them come into corners and their foot is always pointing inside to their front wheel no matter which side you know what that does that brings your bike down it doesn't sound like much guys but I'm telling you if you stick your foot out and your toe in it kind of brings everything down and in and you'll stick better make sure when you bring your foot out it's not pointing out here it's pointing straight out from your shroud and always remember to be conscious of your of your shroud so sometimes I'll hook my knee braces on these shrouds just you want to lift your leg straight out point your toe in it's gonna be tough for a while to retrain yourself if you don't do it to point that toe in but just try it go hit a corner point your toe in see what the bike does have your foot straight out and don't point your toe in and see what the bike does the bike will fall over in the corner nicely and will stick better with your toe in all right so tip number five weighting your foot pegs again balls of your feet very important but also there's all different kinds of corners there's flat corners there's ruts there's berms it doesn't matter which corner it is waiting your pegs is very important let's say you're going through a right-hand corner a flat corner your foots out straight out okay your toes in but your other side your left side you're going to want your foot back on the balls of your feet pushing down against that foot peg what that does is it causes the rear end to load just a little bit and get that tire back there to bite down and you want that traction to accelerate from the flat corner if you kind of just dangle your left foot and not really weight it your rear in your bikes always going to go wiggle wiggle wiggle and you're not going to squat and bite in so always remember foot out toe in but the other side you want to push down on the flat corners to get some bite to the rear end in the ruts you don't have to push down as much because you have something to hold on to and berms same thing but very important to wait you're outside pegs on flat corners alright so that's the top five tips that I can give you guys out there those are the basics we could break down so much more we're not going to do a 20 minute video but you guys do this keep it fun and always practice makes perfect I tell my son all the time hey you can't do it two times it doesn't mean you can't do it it's gonna take a long time I've been riding thirty years and I learned something every time I ride so always remember to go out practice these tips you'll eventually get better your lap times will drop or if you're out trail riding the same thing you'll be safer you have a better ride so stay tuned for more tips at rockymountainatvmc.com and if you want to follow me you can hit me up at Kay Keefer 1:20 on Instagram see ya [Music]
