you don't want to miss a thing today i'm talking about cities near dallas texas specifically just north of dallas so let's get started with my personal top 5 favorites list in no particular order coming in at number one is mckinney mckinney is a nice city just about 30 miles north of dallas texas it sits in collin county and is the county seat which means it has an active and vibrant downtown area that's fun for shopping or a night out on the town unique by nature is the city's catchphrase so you'll see lots of mature trees lined in the roads and tons of open areas and parks too it really is one of those picturesque cities with a small town feel to it it really does have a different small town vibe to it different than a few of the other cities around it a lot of mckinney's growth is happening on the north side of town so you have an abundant selection of either established homes or new homes to choose from mckinney does have some pretty large employers at places like raytheon globe life encore wire and traxxas just to name a few few so it really is possible to affordably live and work in the same area in mckinney as with all the cities i'm talking about today mckinney has a highly rated school district second today is frisco frisco is another great city to live in also about 30 miles north of dallas it's home to the dallas cowboys world headquarters also known as the star frisco has a bit more of an upscale trendy vibe to it with a lot of fancy restaurants and shops throughout also if you love sports frisco might just be the right place for you it's home to the frisco rough riders the minor league double-a affiliate of the rangers baseball team other teams that call frisco home are major league soccers fc dallas the texas legends who are the g league basketball team for the dallas mavericks and the dallas rattlers it's their major league lacrosse team the dallas stars practice facility is even located in frisco as well if you love sports you'll never get bored with frisco when compared to other surrounding cities frisco really does have the most options for restaurants shopping entertainment and other family fun activities the homes are a little bit more expensive than there are any of the other cities around but they're still considered affordable especially if you're relocating here from higher cost of living areas that are out of state frisco is also well known for its highly rated school districts as well now let's talk about number three prosper prosper is also north of dallas just a few minutes past frisco prosper prides itself on its small town feel and it's still in its early growth stages they are very high rate of homes being built every day and the retail and shopping is finally starting to catch up with the demand prosper is known for its great schools and also for being a very safe place to live it's about 36 miles north of dallas so even if you work in downtown dallas it's still within a reasonable commuting distance as well number four is going to be celina salina is a small but growing city about 50 miles north of dallas like the earlier cities i mentioned salina is a high growth area as well currently with a slightly rural vibe to it it has a really cool downtown area full of shops and restaurants that even people from surrounding cities make an effort to come visit and hang out they have a ton of family friendly events every year to include their signature cajun fest celina is also home to a really cool residential development called light farms light farms is this really cool place that's kind of like its own bubble that you don't have to leave if you don't want to it's homes schools community centers and even a really cool restaurant the idea behind it was to build a place that neighbors and community could enjoy together they've got campgrounds sandy beaches dog parks you name it they've got it it's definitely a cool city to check out if you work north of dallas okay now last but not least by any means is number five melissa melissa is about 40 miles north of dallas and it's very well known for its high ranking schools melissa is also in its growth phase with a lot of new people moving to the area because of its affordability compared to surrounding communities it's a small town and also known for its community involvement in youth sports there's a strong sense of community pride at each of their games just a short drive through town and you'll see melissa cardinal stickers everywhere compared to similar homes and cities a little closer to dallas the cost of living is much lower and you're able to get more house for your money you'll also notice that it's a little more country than other surrounding cities which is a really nice change for a lot of people
