today we're going to be showing you the top three cat-back exhaust systems for your toyota tacoma first we're going to show you how to install an aftermarket exhaust system then we're going to compare all three options so you can see how each one of them sounds and then we're going to let you know which one we decided to go with for our truck back here first up is the mbrp 3-inch cat-back exhaust system this is the most budget-friendly option on our list coming in at an affordable 350 dollars it's made from a 100 aluminized steel with a three inch pipe diameter second on our list is the afv mac force xp exhaust system this option has the same pipe diameter of three inches but is a big step above our first option as it's made from 409 stainless steel and features a four and a half inch stainless steel exhaust tip this exhaust system comes in at 740 and lastly the most premium option on our list is the borla s-type exhaust system coming in at just under 900. this system has a 2.5 inch pipe diameter is made from a t304 austenitic stainless steel and comes with a black chrome stainless steel exhaust tip that looks incredible before we keep going i do want to let you know we're building this truck to be the ultimate overland tacoma and we're giving it away to one lucky winner at the end of the year plus 15 000 cash all you have to do is head on over to the link down below every one dollar you spend on our giveaway collection will automatically get you entered to win this truck plus 15 000 cash what are you waiting for get yourself entered to win now let's get straight into the install if you want to skip this make sure to use the chapter markers below the installation process is extremely easy it should not take you more than two hours to install we're actually going to be installing it here at a residential driveway and using basic tools so you guys can see how easy it is to install the tools you're going to need for this install are the following exhaust hanger removal tool or channel locks can of pv blaster or any grease or lubricant such as wd-40 a 14 millimeter swivel socket a 14 millimeter deep socket an impact driver and microfiber towel now that you have your tools let's get started by removing our stock exhaust system the first step is going to be to start at our catback flange by using our 14 millimeter swivel socket [Music] now we're going to remove our exhaust from the hangers starting from the back overnight i did use the pb blaster to wet the hangers so i'm just going to wet it again and the reason why i left it overnight is so that the fluid can work its magic overnight make it easier for install day now that it's nicely lubricated [Music] we'll come right out now we're gonna move towards the front of the vehicle where the hangers are holding the muffler we're gonna use pb blaster to lubricate the hangers and then we're going to use our removal tool and then we're going to do the same thing on the other side now we're going to remove the last hanger that's closest towards the flange make sure you use your knees or at least one hand to hold the exhaust because after you do remove this hanger the exhaust will fall as you can see my left hand is holding the exhaust with my knees and the exhaust is officially off if you're alone this might be a bit of a challenge but as long as you know how to move and work the exhaust it'll come right out so as you can see the exhaust is hanging on the axle what we're gonna do right now is we're gonna twist it and then as it's coming out you're just gonna keep twisting it so as you can see right now the exhaust is completely backwards and be careful with your brake line so you don't want to pull on it too hard where you you're pulling on your brake lines so what you're doing is you're basically pulling it out like that we're using these mats to make sure we're not scratching it so if you do have any mats laying around in your house make sure you use those in case you do want to sell your stock exhaust or even when you're installing your aftermarket exhaust you don't want it getting all scratched up now that you know how to remove your stock exhaust system we're going to show you how to install your aftermarket exhaust system of choice we're going to start by installing our most budget-friendly exhaust system on the list the mbrp for the mbrp exhaust if you have a short bed you will have to cut 13 and 1 4 inches from the end of the pipe without the flange if you have a long bed you can leave it as this here we're using a power saw with a blade for thick metal to cut along the sharpie line we drew out out of the three options the mbrp is the only one that requires cutting we're going to start by using our flange end and make our way to the back first thing you're going to want to do so you're going to grab your flange end and we're going to align it with the stock flange and then you're going to use your 14 millimeter bolt to just hand tighten do not use your power tool to tighten this we're going to tighten all the bolts at the end that's as tight as i can get it with my fingers i'm going to do the other side the reason why we're not tightening the bolts right now so we can maneuver the exhaust move it around make it all the way to the back and then make sure that everything is aligning properly before we tighten all the bolts back up now it's time for us to add the muffler but before you do that make sure you add your clamps now we can install the muffler and here we're going to make sure we have the logo facing down in case you want to show off with your friends they can peek down here and see the logo right there make sure that the bolts on your clamp are just hand tightened again you want to be able to move them and adjust before we tighten everything back up now we're going to connect our bracket to the first hanger [Music] and that will release some of the stress that the flange pipe had right now now it's time for us to move to the tailpipe as you guys can see i just have it laying there so we're gonna bring it up and connect it to the muffler wiggle it in there now we're going to connect the exhaust to the two hangers that are on top of the muffler we have one go in there and the second one and finally we're gonna connect the last hanger on the tailpipe if this is a tight fit you're gonna have to move the exhaust around and play around with it you're gonna have to wiggle it until this thing aligns and just like that the exhaust is in place nice and snug with all the hangers now we just need to tighten all the bolts and make sure it's nicely secured after you have inspected that everything is in place and all hangers are in place now it's time to bolt everything nice and tight [Music] [Music] one additional step for the borla exhaust is making sure that you clean all of your fingerprints off of the chrome finish you don't want your fingerprints to bake into the exhaust once it heats up just like that we installed our aftermarket exhaust system they pretty much all install the same way the only difference you might be dealing with is the different amount of clamps and different amount of pieces of the exhaust as you can see this one has one two three and four clamps on the exhaust system note that if you have been following along we did remove the cold air intake back to stock so that it would not influence our sound test now let's take a listen and see how these three exhaust systems compare to one another [Music] [Music] um [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hang on [Music] all right now we're gonna drive around normally so you can hear how daily driving sounds like so [Music] [Music] all right so now we're gonna get on the highway we're not gonna step on it we're just gonna ease into it as we were driving on a normal day [Music] so [Music] we just heard how all three exhaust systems sound now let's break it down i need to decide which exhaust system is going to go on my personal tacoma and which exhaust system is going to go on project great white the truck that we'll be giving away at the end of the year this was not easy for me at the beginning i really wanted to go with the mbrp for my personal truck in my opinion i think that's the best sounding exhaust from the three i love how loud it is i love how it does not get obnoxious but when i started thinking a little bit more about it i said hey i'm always on the road i'm always doing long drives and to have that exhaust system on a truck that's doing 25 hour long drives it's gonna drive me nuts i do like how the mbrp is an exhaust system that i don't have to worry about i can just put it down there i can ding it up i can hit it i can scratch it and i'm not gonna have to worry about it because it does not physically look the best out of the three options so because of the long drives i decided that for my personal truck i'll be installing the borla exhaust system it's the one that sounded the best overall on a long 20 hour drive i think that's the one that i'm going to be able to deal with the most it is going to hurt me to cut the tip off of it in order to have the clearance with my high clearance rear bumper it was a hard choice between the afe because the afe does come in different parts and i was thinking hey instead of cutting it off i can just simply remove that piece that i need and the afe did have a similar sound to the borla exhaust where i knew i was not going to get bored on a 20 hour drive so the exhaust system that i chose for project great white is the afe because of that it's one that i know that the winner is going to love if they decide to go on a long trip across the country whether they're going to moab or they want to go up to the pacific northwest or wherever they're going to be traveling i know that the exhaust is not going to tire them out on a long drive now if this was a vehicle that was going out it was a weekend warrior you're doing short drives here and there and you want to have a loud sounding exhaust system the mbrp is an exhaust that i would put on my second gen tacoma the one that's a pre-runner one that i really want to feel the engine i really want to feel the roar and i'm not going on crazy long drives one of the reasons why i wanted the mbrp on my third gen was because when i do go wheeling and i have to hit the gas when i'm doing a rock crawling i wanted to be able to hear that rumble but then on a long drive i know i would hate it right so if you're someone that does not care about the looks that is okay with scratching their exhaust system and wants a loud exhaust then i would recommend you go with the mbrp if you're someone that does somewhat care about the looks that does want to have peace on a long drive and wants it to sound loud also the afe would be a great choice for you if you're looking for the best daily driver exhaust system the one that's gonna look the best i would recommend you go with the borla exhaust system the tip on that exhaust system is absolutely incredible it does not have clamps that hold down the tip it's literally welded on and it's one of the best welds i've seen i would not recommend this system for someone who's going to be wheeling rock crawling on weekends because you are going to ding it up you are going to scratch it and i really think it's built for the daily driver in that case i would recommend the afe at the end of the day fellas it all comes down to personal preference we did our best to record the sound with great equipment take your time listen to it and see which one is right for you i want to know which exhaust system was your favorite make sure to comment down below don't forget to get yourself entered to win this truck like subscribe and i'll see you in the next video [Music] you
