take dorothy slide her into the center of the deck and put her back in my pocket now punch me in the face [Music] i'll take what's inside six goal number [Music] [Applause] [Music] one for this list we're looking at jim carrey's greatest roles in film and television what jim carrey role do you think is most rewatchable be sure to let us know in the comments all right let's check it out 20 colonel's stars and stripes kick ass too this is the single greatest thing i've ever seen welcome to justice forever stepping in to fill the nicholas cage-shaped hole left by the first movie jim carrey's experience and charisma are welcome additions to the bloody but often funny kick-ass too a mafia goon turned superhero colonel stars and stripes brings an infectious energy and some gravitas to the story as this is a movie called kick ass 2 that is about hit girl colonel stars and stripes is very much a secondary character but carrie makes the most of his limited screen time you know you shouldn't talk with your mouth full it's very rude colonel stars and stripes showcases the actor's ability to be both funny and dramatic did a few jobs for my dad back in the day before you got born again i used to hang with a lot of losers this is how you thought you'd die sal dressed like an idiot who are you supposed to be number 19. jeff picariello mr pickles kidding in what was a surprising return to the small screen carrie plays a children's tv host who has been portraying the same innocent character for 30 years in my experience everyone has a little tune in their heart and if you listen closely it always finds a way out [Music] while mr pickles is an eternally innocent and wholesome role model for children and adults alike jeff picarillo is a man in his 50s struggling with death guilt and the lack of an outlet for his grief next to you i am the bad guy i always am no you're a wonderful person and i miss you more than oh i loved you jeff kidding makes for an interesting melancholy and occasionally humorous character study and the series improves by quite a bit in its second season carrie is fantastic throughout and shows off his impressive range what do you do and the barrel that carries you suddenly harries you stick together number 18 dick harper fun with dick and jane a lesser appreciated entry in carrie's filmography fun with dick and jane traces the story of a vice president of a major media company who faces a major life reversal as the corporation goes belly up in my estimation globaldyne is completely transparent and we've been more than willing to share any and all documentation for the most part dick and jane are left to engage in slapstick shenanigans as they turn to a life of crime get the money out of there right now a remake of a 1977 film fun with dick and jane is hardly going to win awards for originality but kerry delivers a dynamic and sympathetic performance as a well-meaning guy who is desperate to provide for his family i've been terminated bankrupted deported in blackmail because of you and i'm not leaving here without your money number 17 stephen j russell i love you philip morris based on a true story i love you philip morris is a fascinating and engaging tale carrie portrays steven j russell an oft imprisoned conman who appears to be forever playing a part be it a police officer a church organ player or a cfo of a large company so i had no choice [Music] i became a con man yeah insurance fraud credit card fraud passport fraud i was selling bad tomatoes anything to make a buck the one thing that seems genuine about steven is his love for his excel mate philip morris whom he goes to great lengths to be with oh my god how did you do this i know a guy took care of it i'm gonna take care of everything a complex character with endless charisma but a tragic disposition stephen is the type of person that jim carrey was born to portray i know i'm sorry you weren't supposed to find out well i did i couldn't take a chance telling you you know that i couldn't but philip i only did it so i could get here to you number 16 charlie and hank me myself and irene in another team up with the farrelly brothers carrie takes on the dual role of the timid state trooper charlie and his split personality alter ego the fierce hank through a series of twists charlie ends up accused of murder and is forced to go on the run with mob hitmen and the fbi chasing him and the similarly falsely accused irene across the country every week are used to the mississippi will be looking for this sled safer to go mass transit ready on nine one two three four seventy nine me myself and irene permits carrie to deliver the type of over-the-top and physical performance that helped make him a star and there is no shortage of brilliant facial one expressions two and me myself and irene is quintessential jim carrey even if it's not quite his best ever been [ __ ] that i'm gonna kill you like a sweater god arrived number 15. andy kaufman man on the moon a surreal and meta-fictional biopic about andy kaufman man on the moon dramatizes the legendary comedian's life through a stellar central performance by jim carrey the actor notoriously stayed in character throughout the production which helped carrie disappear into the role as he sought to embody kaufman in his entirety maxie hi hey hot shot how you doing okay all right all right funny as it can be at times man on the moon does not shy away from showing kaufman's low points and carrie handles both tones convincingly i didn't want to do the sketch kaufman get off my stage get off my stage man at any given point in the story the film and its lead character are hilarious awkward inspirational or depressing number 14. carl allen yes man what if you had to say yes to everything that is the basic premise of 2008's yes man a comedy loosely based on danny wallace's memoir of the same name carrie portrays carl a man who's become stuck in a rut due to his negative outlook on life you ever get my calls what god no oh i totally lost my phone so full of [ __ ] there it is yeah there it is you know what buddy you missed my engagement party tonight after a motivational speaker advises carl to say yes to everything the protagonist begins to do just that leading him on a journey of self-discovery and love every time an opportunity presents itself no matter what it is you will say yes yes yes yes while great as a comedy yes man is even better considered as a dramedy about a closed-minded person seeking a way to change his life we hit a couple raves last night it was totally off the hook yeah you seem a little hyper i had a couple red bulls you ever had a red bull i never had a red bull before but i had a red bull last night i really like red bull number 13 count olaf lemony snickets a series of unfortunate events a fast-paced adaptation of daniel handler's first a series of unfortunate events novels this 2004 film is very much the jim carrey show i am your beloved count olaf and welcome to my loverly home may you find solace within the womb-like warmth of its downy bloom as the villainous count olaf carrie is cartoonish and expressive juxtaposing the film's pretty grim plot with plenty of improvisational humor our parents just died oh yes of course oh very very awful wait let me do that one more time give me the line again quickly well it's fresh in my mind our parents just died count olaf walks the line between an intimidating monster and an incompetent buffoon this character is believable as someone who on any given day might leave three children to be run over by a train or pretend to be a dinosaur olaf is eccentric in all the right ways let's go back to prehistoric times when dinosaurs rule the earth [Music] number 12 the grinch how the grinch stole christmas my son died ron howard's adaptation of the dr seuss classic gives the grinch a tragic backstory and makes the whos of whoville slightly terrifying saddled with tons of makeup and a restrictive suit jim carrey somehow manages to preserve his expressiveness and delivers a truly manic turn as the grinch the auntie gated girl you've called out the thunder the titular character carries the weight of the movie on his green shoulders as the grinch supplies the laughs and also most of the story's emotional beats they nursed you i clothed you here they are your own pity are you two still living the grinch is an irresistible force who demands attention in every scene regardless of whether he's stealing christmas or trying to decide what to wear oh that [ __ ] i'm not going number 11. dr robotnik sonic the hedgehog in somewhat of a return to classic form carrie's dr robotnik chews the scenery with all the enthusiasm of a saturday morning cartoon villain a scientist with a penchant for madness robotnik is egotistical violent and demeaning all traits that lend themselves well to a scene stealer it says on the top banana in a world full of hungry little monkeys allow me to clarify in a sequentially ranked hierarchy based on level of critical importance the disparity between us is too vast to quantify agent stone the doctor thinks you're basic whether tearing down a major or meeting a talking blue hedgehog for the first time robotnik is delightfully unhinged a genius who would love nothing more than to replace all of humanity with [Music] give me robots big fat break the age of robotnik has only just begun i just thought you might like a latte with steamed austrian goat milk what do i look like an imbecile of course i want a latte i love the way you make them number 10. edward nigma the riddler batman forever released at the height of kyrie mania batman forever lets the comedian go full ham as edward nigma edward [Music] once enigma completes his transition into the riddler the villain eliminates any sense of self-restraint and embraces chaos with a vigor that would make the joker proud why not humiliate him first expose his friend and then when he is at his weakest crush him all right as a throwback to the adam west era of batman the riddler and his schemes are unapologetically outlandish and cartoonish which bounce off well against bruce wayne's quiet intensity if nothing else batman forever does make the most of jim carrey while it has him was that over the top i can never tell number 9. joel barish eternal sunshine of the spotless mind carrie has proven his dramatic chops time and time again throughout his career in perhaps the actor's most against type role ever carrie portrays the hesitant and introverted joel opposite kate winslet's impulsive clementine it might be the hair what might it changes a lot with the color that's why you might not recognize me it's called blue ruin right snappy name huh i like it after learning that clementine his ex-girlfriend has erased him from her mind joel decides to undergo the same procedure a decision he comes to regret don't ever leave me i'm pretty pretty pretty please let me keep this memory at no point during eternal sunshine of the spotless mind does it seem like carrie is on the verge of cracking a joke as the actor convincingly and wholeheartedly becomes the reserved and hurting joel are you screwing with me no you are scrolling with me joel i'm not you clearly are looks okay let's just take a minute and number eight fletcher read liar liar sometimes the only thing a movie needs to do is let jim carrey do his thing liar liar's simple premise of a lawyer who cannot lie for a day might sound thin but it provides more than enough fuel for one of the greatest physical comedians ever [Music] as the hijinks commence fletcher proves that the truth can hurt beats himself up for nothing and produces some of the most entertaining court sessions of all time what the hell are you doing i'm kicking my ass while liar liar injects its frenzied comedy with heart and a good message it's moments like fletcher losing an intense stare down with a pen that tend to be most fondly remembered [Music] boss what happened [Music] the pen is blue number seven ernie chip douglas the cable guy there's one major thing that separates chip from carrie's other mid 90s roles the cable guy is purposefully unlikable a lonely person who is intrusive and incapable of taking a hint chip is uncomfortable aggressive and way too intense is this what you want [Music] even if the film takes things to extremes chip still comes across as someone you could genuinely meet on the street or at a medieval-themed dinner silence of the land kerry would eventually take on darker and more dramatic roles but the cable guy represents the comedian's first significant attempt to subvert expectations it also doesn't hurt that the film is pretty hilarious at times you're gonna have to do better than that stephen stephen stephen my lisp is gone you stupid son of a [ __ ] number four fire marshall bill in living color before movies came calling jim carrey got his big break in the sketch comedy series in living color carrie had multiple recurring characters but none proved to be quite as explosive as fire marshal bill i know what you're thinking we're all perfectly safe in this classroom right right wrong just about everything you see in here is a potential hazard emphasizing physical comedy and making splendid use of carrie's elastic facial expressions fire marshall bill shows up to teach kids and viewers that hell is only one fish tank or waffle iron away you pull out your waffle iron you go to pour in the mix somebody says hey look rudolph's pinching a loaf on the neighbor's lawn [Music] fire marshal bill basically condenses the style of comedy that would define carrie's early movies into bite-sized sketches and the routine never gets old band-aid with colorful flintstone characters voila thanksgiving at jeffrey dahmer's house number five bruce nolan bruce almighty after having a meltdown on air and getting fired tv reporter bruce nolan gets a temporary job as a stand-in for god my job my job you think you can do it better so here's your chance when you leave this building you will be endowed with all my powers whatever you say in the span of a week bruce performs some amazing miracles proves to his girlfriend that he will never give her up and turns buffalo on its head oh darn all this horsepower and no room to gallop carrie instills bruce with a hilarious but charming intensity that helps sell many of bruce almighty's sillier moments while aptly demonstrating the selfish character's journey towards maturity people want me to do everything for them what they don't realize is they have the power you want to see a miracle son be the miracle bruce might make for a pretty terrible god but kerry is glorious as a human trying to be the almighty number 4. lloyd christmas the dumb and dumber franchise in the wrong hands unbelievably stupid characters can be infuriatingly annoying thankfully dumb and dumber gets its casting spot on lloyd is a limousine driver who falls in love with a passenger and goes on a road trip to aspen with his best friend to return a briefcase i know what you're up to mister yeah you just want to go to aspen and find that girl who lost her briefcase and you need me to drive you there right am i right yeah am i right am i right so in some ways lloyd is a hopeless romantic albeit one stripped of any charisma intelligence sophistication or restraint [Music] the road trip boils down to a series of hilarious lowbrow gags each one underpinned by the usually comforting but not always positive friendship between lloyd and harry wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world [Music] number three truman burbank the truman show by the late 90s jim carrey was one of the most famous comic actors on the planet but it remained to be seen whether he could transition to pure drama the truman show would change that the movie follows truman a guy who has unknowingly lived his entire life as the subject of a television show while the premise lends itself to a comedy the truman show dives into this concept psychological philosophical and dramatic implications no artificial sweeteners what the hell are you talking about who you talking to i've tasted other cocoas this is the best what the hell does this have to do with anything tell me what's happening truman is incredibly relatable as an average joe who comes to realize that his entire world is a lie and while carrie is often funny it's never at the expense of the film's emotional core then who am i you're the star [Music] was nothing real you were real that's what made you so good to watch number two stanley ipkis the mask the mask if a film wants to pass for a live-action cartoon jim carrey is the person to call the mask was one of a trifecta of 1994 flicks that propelled carrie into the stratosphere and it's certainly not difficult to see why the comedian portrays the down on his luck and bullied stanley ipkis who finds a mask that transforms him into a comic book character [Music] while the unassertive ipkis is surprisingly likable this movie is all about the mask's infectious energy sight gags and penchant for anarchy now you have to ask yourself one question do i feel lucky well do you punks endlessly quotable and rewatchable the mask is the 90s at its zaniest that's s i see me the ball before we continue be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos you have the option to be notified for occasional of the catch phrases ace ventura is one of those roles that is simply synonymous with jim carrey don't let me catch you with an animal in here that's all all right take care now bye bye then as the comedian's first big movie ace ventura introduced carrie's brand of extreme acting to the big screen and everything about the pet detective is iconic the scream she heard came from inside this apartment before he was thrown over the balcony and the murderer closed the door before he left yes yes oh yeah can you feel that buddy the first movie throws everything at the wall in the hopes of getting a laugh and it succeeds more than it misses what you wouldn't read about is how rapinko lost his mind was committed to a mental hospital only to escape and join the police force under the assumed identity of a missing hiker manipulating his way to the top in a diabolical scheme to get even with dan marino whom he blamed for the entire thing even the sequel that was released a year later has more than its share of good moments mostly because ace ventura is simply magnetic i'll have you know i have the reflexes of a cat and the speed of a mongoose throw it i dare ya the thing about jim carrey characters is they're so darn quotable actually that would be a good list be sure to let us know in the comments if you would watch top 10 jim carrey quotes and of course let us know
