hey guys it's Coop from garage gym reviews and today we have a very fun one I get asked all the time Coop what are some products I can have in my gym that are Essentials that aren't gym equipment so today I have 10 different items that I'm going to show you on items that I think a lot of people Overlook but you should look into if you have a home gym or a garage gym so let's get into it [Music] if you don't have one of these you are making a major mistake now before I get into these if you are into reviews specifically on gym equipment or things that aren't gym equipment make sure you subscribe because we have a lot forthcoming and this is just a part of what we do now the first one is one that I think is essential for people that have garage gyms specifically and that is heating and cooling Heating and Cooling is essential to have a space where you can train comfortably now I think it's okay to train in a garage gym without Heating and Cooling in fact for the first like 10 years of my gyms I didn't have any Heating and Cooling I had a propane top heater that's all that I used and what I would do is I would bundle up I don't think there's a bad thing with going out there and doing voluntary hardship without it being the perfect 72 degrees I think that's a good thing and something that really we're training our bodies and Minds to do hard things making it harder isn't a bad thing but I'm a wussy now so I have a meter and a cooler in one unit and there's a lot of different options for this and this one in particular is called a mini split so this is kind of like the higher end that's not to say these are crazy expensive this is actually a DIY unit that I installed with a buddy so it's not like it's crazy expensive it was around a grand and I can heat my entire three-car garage really well and cool it as well but if that number is too expensive there's other options as well but I've got this one it's got an air handler outside and then give me that camera I have this one over here this one up here is for my one car garage this is one of the nice things about these is I can have this one here in the one car but then over there two car I have a bigger unit but because they're from the same company they actually interact with each other and keep the temperature the same between them all right come back over here now there's a couple other options besides a mini split the cheap cheap end is what I did which was a propane heater but the big thing to think about is its fumes but if that's your only option what I would suggest doing is open your garage a little bit and I'm telling you those things get hot and can fill up space now Sam has another option which is an infrared heater and so those use electricity there's a lot of options that are out there we'll put some links to the like button that you can check out okay let's go to the next one now let's talk about storage options as you can see I've got a lot of storage and if you have gym equipment storage is a really good thing because you can take things off the floor put them on the wall and then suddenly you have a lot of space to work with I have literally thousands and thousands of pounds on these storage racks and if I ever want to use them I just go up and get them but these are very expensive and I don't think these are the only storage you can think of and these are from gym equipment companies let me show you a really cheap option that everybody can use and that's these right here these are simple magnetic hooks these hold up to 60 pounds or so I got them on Amazon I've got a couple of them and I realized man these are really useful and I bought a ton of them but you can also put them on any metal surface which means like a squat rack if you want to store any sort of soft goods handles cable attachments all those sorts of things you can put them on there and then you easily take them off so those are a very cheap option but another popular option is this right here so this is from a company called Omni wall there's also another option called wall control which really I think is the best option for most people due to the price point these are made of metal we like metal in the gym these work really well they're actually 16 inch in width so they fit perfectly on studs easy to install and then they have all these unique attachments where you can put them on here and then add different stuff just a somewhat budget-friendly way to store a lot of different little things because what you'll find with a home gym is you'll get a lot of little stuff you know like grippers and pull-up handles and all sorts of stuff but if you have bigger heavier items another thing I'd look into is this over here here let me see that okay so this is something I use to store bikes these are from Gladiator these are called their gear wall tracks and you can store a lot of weight on them and then over here this is a gladiator rack when I had my first gym I used this for my dumbbell so you can store more stuff on that they're like 2 000 pounds max weight each shelf so they can hold a lot of weight and again you get them from Home Depot or Lowe's they're super cheap there's just a lot of storage options you can have without spending a lot of money to store everything that you need take it off the floor put it on the wall and I'm telling you your training will be so much better this next one specifically for garage gym owners if you're working in a garage gym you know this problem the problem is you have a garage door whenever it's overhead it suddenly prevents you from being able to press overhead or do any sort of overhead work and when you have it down you have a garage door track in the way that also prevents you to do that and just removes head space let me show you the alternative what I've used for my past two garage gyms and what I'd recommend for most people if you can afford it that said it's not that much much more expensive than a normal garage door opener and that's the side mount garage door openers there's a couple of companies that make them this is from LiftMaster so the way that they move the garage door is they're taking this Jack shaft and they're just rotating it whereas the other ones are actually pulling the door up these are not that much more expensive than a regular garage door opener they're very quiet they're also modern so like you can use your phone and stuff like that but the biggest benefit is look overhead there's nothing there when the garage door is closed the only thing that remains is the tracks it just makes the space feel more open these work really well and I think it's not a crazy expensive thing to make your experience at home all right next one okay I'm at the top of my garage because my videographer quit on me no I'm just kidding I'm up here to show you what I think is an important key in a garage gym or a home gym and that is sound this up here is Sonos now these are inexpensive speakers that are Wi-Fi controlled these are what I prefer and many in the community do that said there's a lot of options out there from Bluetooth speakers like dimmer box or JBL that work really well but for me in my garage I use Sonos now another thing that a lot of garage gyms have is a TV now in my garage gym I don't have a TV I don't like watching TV I don't want TVs all around but when I come out here I want to be focused now TVs aren't a bad thing and another way that you can put music on put YouTube videos like awesome channels like garage and reviews while you're training just for extra hype and also if you're using services like something like future that I used to work out with you can actually post and see your workouts on the screen speaking of of that this video is brought to you by Future future is an online personal training program that I use and have used for over two years now they actually sent me a notification I burned over 250 calories using the service I'm a huge fan in fact we did a review I liked it so much people accused us of doing an ad so I just decided we should do an ad because I like it that much I'm not just saying that I absolutely mean it if I didn't like it I just wouldn't mention it no I love future I highly recommend it basically allows you to have a one-on-one personal coach for your training for accountability for workouts they also do some nutrition advice it works extremely well I've gotten many of my friends and family including my videographer on it because it works that good if you'd like to join we have an exclusive offer for ggr members you can click the link below like button and get the first month for only 19 bucks very cheap I highly suggest signing up this next one is ultra budget friendly and something that literally all of you already have and are using and it's just another way to use it you don't have to spend a ton of extra money and I'm telling you if you have a squat rack or anything metal in your gym you will find this almost essential after you use it you're never going to not want it and that is a magnet on your phone case okay this is a phone case from Peak design I'm a big fan of these they're not crazy pricey they're like 40 bucks but this allows you when you're working out you can throw on your rack so I can throw it there to stick throw it here to stick I can just put it in different places but the thing with this is the magnets not as good as I wanted it to be in fact I had an old magnet that would work even better it's from a company called night eyes and it's literally just a magnet with 3M tape you stick on the back they have all these balls and attachments you can use to attach them when you're in your car or on your bicycle or something like that and they stick on them so well this is such a cheap addition that you can add to your garage gym or your home gym for me oftentimes what I'm doing let's say I'm benching or squatting I just place my phone up here and then I'm able to see like my reps and sets and all that sort of stuff right there and then whenever I want to like log it I just click it and move on all right right this next category is one that you're seeing right now I get asked a lot about this and this is lighting lighting again opens up a space and there's lots of options you can go with for lighting you can go on the very cheap end like what we put in Sam's garage shim or these lights you can plug into the socket that are LEDs and they're like tri-folding they can open up a space really well or you can go up to a really expensive option we'll put some links below like button but for most people the Barina LED shop lights that's probably the best option cost wise everything they're from Amazon they work really well but another option for lighting that I've added to my garage gym I get asked about a lot are these lights under here now these are Hue Lights these are from a company Phillips they're just light bulbs that allow you to control them via Wi-Fi they have an app and you can control all the different colors now these are extra for most people I have these because we use this almost as a set but also because I just like the look I like controlling the colors everything like that these lights in particular just because they get asked out it these are from Ikea honestly the hardest part was putting this together but now that it's set up I use it and benefit from it every day and it's just a nice addition that some people can add if you want the aesthetic look okay this next one if you don't have one of these you are making a major mistake after you watch this video please run out and get it this is one of the cheapest ways that you can add a big benefit to your home gym that is not a piece of equipment I'm telling you I freaking love these and that is a leaf blower sorry Nathan leaf blowers work so well because you get so much freaking crap in your garage I get dust and leaves and dog poop you name it it ends up in my freaking garage on my tiles this one I think is a couple hundred bucks but you can get them for a hundred bucks I highly suggest the ones that have batteries just because they're quicker honestly the best leaf blower out there that's battery powered if you're just like looking for the best is ego I think there's other options like Cobalt and Greenworks that are a little bit cheaper seriously everything on this list you ignore but you're gonna get one thing I'm telling you it would be this it's so good okay next okay now if you don't like to blow and would prefer to suck this is what that's for this is my wall mounted vacuum system this thing is over the top this whole system can get expensive this is not and this is what I recommend for a lot of people in the garage gym that are just looking for a vacuum system this is a rigid vacuum that is wall mounted that you can also take off the wall sucks really well gets out of the way everything we talk about with Home Gyms this is a reel from a company called Cox reels like for most people it's not worth it and then this is a hundred foot coil this thing does lack some suction due to how long this reel is but I found it's not bad enough when I want to get deep in the corners and really clean up the space I use this if you're like me use your gym for much more than training one thing I use my gym for especially when it's nice out and now that it's climate controlled is our workout here but what I use is a shop chair this is the most over-the-top shop chair world this is from a company called Viper I got this because it's basically a squat rack that's been broken down into a chair it matches the space really well super heavy duty metal it's also powder coated it's got stainless steel parts on it it's nice dude it's made in America like if you're looking for a shop chair like this is the one if you're willing to spend the money like it's so good for most people though really the one I'd recommend is something like this this is from Menards or master Air Force DeWalt also sells them you can get them at pretty much any hardware store it's actually a nice shop chair it's not as comfortable as this one it doesn't have all the doodads but for most people this can get by just using your garage for working out I think is not using the space correctly you have all this space if you make it aesthetically pleasing you'll want to spend time out there if you have lighting heating cooling all that stuff make it for more things than just working out and that's why I use things like this so I can use the gym for more purposes okay this last one is one that all of you that follow me are familiar with those that haven't followed and you're kind of new to this this may be news to you but what I suggest for most people to work out on is not a piece of a gym equipment it's horse stall mats there's like an ongoing joke like in our Facebook Community if you'd like to join check it out put a link to the like button we'd love to have you us and 140 000 other people that love Home Gyms would love you in there but there's this ongoing joke where anybody asks for recommendation the response is horse doll mats it's the universal recommendation because they work really well and they're pretty cheap so I have a really nice flooring here from Alaco that are more expensive but for most people a four by six hundred pound three quarter inch horse stall mat is the best option it's not gym equipment but you don't want to be working out on your concrete floor you don't want to be dropping your weights on your concrete floor you want grip you also want to protect your foundation and that's the cheapest way to do it it's loved by pretty much every home gym owner in the world I highly suggest this okay are 10 a myriad of options of things that are not gym equipment let me know in the comments is there anything I missed that you absolutely love that you use in your home gym that isn't a piece of gym equipment I'd love to do it I'd love to do another one of these let us know in the comments what you think of the video it's helpful for us this has been Coop from garage and reviews and we will see you next time peace foreign [Music] [Music]
