here is a coin dealer's top 10 coin collecting investment suggestions first off I want to start by saying this coin collecting can be confusing so the the number 10 on this list and I'm going to go from 10 to the number one is that at least buy something silver or gold on a regular basis Every payday once a month it doesn't matter what it is I don't care if it's a dime I don't care if it's a silver dollar or a half dollar welcome to the coin shop and say I want a silver coin and pick one out of the trays or whatever it is and buy that coin eventually you can settle out to where what you're going to collect so number nine on the list is buying silver dollars like Morgan and Peace dollars Morgan and Peace dollars hold their value are highly collectible you can find vams you can sometimes buy find them under graded their different values you can collect certain grades you can collect whole circulated you can collect calls you know coins that are cleaned and damaged and things like that try to find the best deals and collect those and put those back and rolls to me that would be my way of stacking premium or not it wouldn't matter to me if I was going to stack it'd be silver dollars there's just something about silver dollars and that's how I would do it number eight on the list is to buy small gold like a dollar 250 even five dollars or even tenth ounce the 250 Indian Head probably has the most demand but even the five dollar and the ten dollar those are good coins to buy and you can always resell them they always have some type of demand number seven on the list would be unsearch proof sets of mint sets I mean if you look at the values of proofs and look at the the varieties that you can find this is what you're looking for you want to look for the variety so if you're buying lots and lots of proof sets I know that you have to get rid of them but you can actually look at these before you buy them so really it's an investment in time and investment in learning what you can find in proof sets because most people do not look at proof sets it's not easy to look through the plastic you got to take them out of the boxes and it takes a lot more time so most dealers don't deal with it most dealers don't do this and there are some dealers out there that don't care if you look through their proof sets for varieties it's best to take you a little list know what you're looking for maybe even memorize it number six on the list is solid date unopened unsearched bankrupt roles that are known for varieties like the 69s here on eBay someone's got 495 dollars on it now you don't want to find them for this price because that's taken a big chance of you know there could be a 69s double die in there but you also want to find other roles there's just learn what are the varieties that are worth the most money look for those roles at coin shows small coin shops there's a lot of small coin dealers that don't care or build relationships up with a coin shop so whenever they do buy large Lots they can't deal with sometimes they'll unload their be rolls of immorals and you can go through them to me that's one of the best ways of buying Earth people turning stuff in all the time your chances are low of finding something but it is not a bad investment when you can get these rolls for you know a few dollars number five on the list is buying au58 graded coins I mean literally some of these au58s like the 84s they jump in value in mint State 60 and even in 8058 they're worth a lot of money but a lot of times if you buy Choice au58 graded coins by NGC or PCGS there is a chance that that coin can be mint State 60 to 63. it's not a guarantee and you really have to pick the choice coins you can take a look at these and compare the 60s with the 58s and you can see a lot of similarities number four on the list is type coin proofs you know you've got three cent silver you've got Liberty seated and when you look at all of these some of them are easily attainable even though they're worth a few hundred dollars but when you look at the mintages of some of these how many were made I mean when you've got estimated five known obviously that's that's Out Of Reach for most people but when you're looking at estimated 60 known and you can get it for you know 27.50 or 1550 for 75 known I mean that is extremely rare you can even look at the mintages of just regular proofs let's see mint State 60 750 for the 1862 and when you go over to the mint edges this is the three cent silver proof and they're beautiful coins but the mintage is only 550. if these ever catch on the values of these is going to Skyrocket I I if there's any sleepers out there it's type proof coins number three low mintage issues with small demand Platinum Eagles are a perfect example of this if you look at the mintages let's take a 1997. if you look at the mintages of these seventy thousand some of them are twenty thousand if they're the proofs some of them are fifty thousand there's not very many of them made so I would you know if these ever take off too I mean obviously the values can increase on these above the platinum and they do sell above the Platinum value now they do have a little bit of a premium but the demand is not there like a like it could be the other thing is modern gold commemorative issues if you look at the mintages of these they're they're pretty low too some more than others but you've gotten basically sixty two thousand nine hundred and thirteen now these didn't circulate and obviously there's there's probably still that amount around but I would highly recommend not shunning these because you know if people catch on to some of these sleeper series and these sleeper coins that are low managed and then the man increases you know some of these are even being melted at times I mean they may never over I mean it's hard to tell but it's just hard to believe that something with low maintenance is like this that's being melted and sold for basically under melt I mean I can go to a coin show and buy some of these from other dealers for a little less than melt number two on the list would be condition grade key dates and when I say condition grade that means a coin in certain grades increases in value based off of the grade that they might not be worth much in the lower grades but when you start getting higher value or when you start getting higher grade it's worth more and you can see that in the Lincoln cent series uh one perfect example of that is in the Mercury dimes when you're looking at 26 s's you know how much they increase in each grade I mean it's almost an au it's like a key date I mean 402 dollars 400 bucks 500 bucks and that leads me to number one this is something that has been around for a long time ever since I've been in this business I've always heard this when you start buying something or any type of coins you're wanting to collect and you're wanting to complete sets buy the key dates first always buy the key dates first they tend to hold their value hold their demand and increase in value over time and the 16d is a perfect example of that the 1909 s VDB the 1877 Indian sense and you know you you runs the gamut even the semi keys I mean I tell people the condition grade keys I know I'm going back to number two here but the thing of it is is like the 84 S's and the 86 O's I've watched the lower grades increase in value whenever the higher grades became almost unattainable to the normal collector so yes key dates you know stick with those and sync with those condition key semi-keys those are some of your best investments that you buy now before they get Out Of Reach before they get out of hand so there you have top 10 coin collecting
