cool and if you're an og of the channel you have been here before and that is the a2 wind tunnel funny thing it was james first trip ever with us when we came here with leroy now we get to win tessa nova you think your aerodynamics are better than the elko brother oh no no yeah you do have it the oco's got me i think you cut that slam window flat boy window yeah he's got a little bit of a kickback doctor tunama how you doing so guys today we are here to stick the cars in the wind tunnel purely for fun you just can't pass up a good wind tunnel opportunity so we got zach here too and we're gonna get the cars unloaded and do this dying brother sounding good new bullet installed still running on methanol all that good [Music] stuff got that brand new tech speed 427 in there g427 perfect back in this unit yes sir the old block i was able to save but it's not really not a high power engine anymore so i'm gonna build like a an a427 deal yeah for the drift car but uh got a new texas speed 427 recently blocked me down the piston same rod same thing it's all that stuff so street car takeover tomorrow i'm gonna test it out for the first time off the trailer race you have an off the trailer grudge race with rye right right from flat down yeah okay kill face cars all right let's get it done here's the deal leroy took 545 horsepower to overcome his aerodynamics at 170 miles an hour were the statistics i think we're going to do better than that i think not much i think we're going to do a little better today probably around like the 300 mark i guess yeah i think it's going to be significantly less we'll see what these guys end up being these are just so much cleaner than leroy they should just pick up right there you're good keeper straight good looking human you want to do the elko first clean dude i mean i think i should run my bumper without it definitely i'll throw it on it does look pretty sweet like this looks like a little bit leroy to it you ever seen a wind tunnel before maddie no this is my first time oh this thing's so freaking cool yeah dang i love this thing dude remember that one time when you flew an airplane in here yeah the rc airplane one time i got the bright idea of pulling my parachute in here about got sucked into the fan because like it ripped out of my hands and then it came into this net and push this net in so far like it almost that was amazing it about got really hairy if you guys don't know how wind tunnel works basically uh we parked the car up on these plates and then as the wind comes through here at about 100 mile an hour it puts different weight and you know pulls and pushes on these plates via the car's aerodynamics and then that's how they calculate all the data in the control room which is right through these little windows it's over there and then he will tell us the data jeff here if you remember him from last time and we're just gonna see what the cars can do so oh maybe like a giant one that'll really get all the air moving seconds [Music] all right all right guys i apologize in advance the rest of the video is gonna be horrible wind noise until we're done with the wind tunnel so just enjoy all right guys so before we test the car we're going to see what the wind tunnel's got so we're all we're all standing here i know you think the turbos are cool to spin for a little bit yeah all right i love it when this thing spools up dude it's so sick so guys it's actually pulling there through the back i don't know if you know that pulling air because if it was blowing air out of the car all the air would be choppy so it pulls it through you ever been in one of these zach oh god oh yeah there's the spoolage so there's here's molly spoiled up i forgot how freaking powerful this thing is good lord all right let's let the car do a test on something did you see the back end go down did you see yeah that's what i was pointing out right when they first wake up you can see the wing actually move wow that's amazing i love this thing dude i love this thing it's so rad he's just sitting there dude did you see the back of the car squat did it really yes the second kick down you could see the wing bend down all right so now we're going to test straight up no human error interaction in there car looks good in there man it i'm glad you brought one with a body and a paint job dude come on let's see what kind of uh dragons puppies got all right so leroy's drag coefficient was .74 just cranking her up she's pulling up i go out here real quick okay [Music] put on that tunnel up elko looks so lonely in there oh look at how the parachute lines are going backwards it's that negative air behind the car yeah we were just talking about that behind any car you're going to have a big recirculation area yeah so some deer is going to be going down sums up sun's backwards it's just really turbulent back there interesting [Music] than leroy yeah it probably is especially with a little bit of hair gel yeah the smoke i was thinking we should jack james car up into a wheelie like how it normally is going down the drag strip see what the data is on that all right you ready yeah so the cd for our first point is a 548 25.548 and uh to do 170 miles an hour you need 355 horsepower wow that's way better dude that's pretty good numbers yeah not bad for a truck all right so leroy is .74 this is point two two tenths better and then that's huge two hundred horsepower difference yeah downtrend point two and cd i think is massive right yeah yeah i mean you have some cars that like super slippery streamlined cars can be a point too so you have the difference between leroy and this car is a car wow why wouldn't you put it that way dude you know it might be time to break out a body for leroy one of these days yeah that's what we said two years ago three years ago and then every comment on the video was just more bald eagles screw aerodynamics yeah 100 what's it make for like does it make any front and rear downforce yeah so uh front at 170 miles an hour you've got 400 pounds of front lift and 270 pounds of rear down wow that's about the same leroy had a bunch of front lift like yeah crazy totally normal for a car that doesn't have specific uh ground effects on it yeah totally flat nose yeah wow that's great he's just picking the nose up pushing the back pushing the back down hey at least we know we have some downforce ah the old smoke one that'll freaking do it that's a unit whoa sweet [Music] what the heck oh my gosh that is so bizarre oh that's so cool i love that low pressure right here at that low pressure [Music] tornado that's crazy wow is so freaking cool really forcing some air into those turbos fire me up a little bit low pressure back there it kind of ram airs into the turbo a little bit i think from under like when he's doing it was coming back forward so basically the air is trying to make that transition it can't so it's kicking up a little bit and you've got a low pressure area right there again causing some recirculation so yeah that's what it's it is probably kicking right up over the turbo so i got to be honest the real reason i came here today is to prove something to the world that race cars don't need hoods and so i need to take this hood off and we need to see if the drag coefficient changes off with my hood the tree that i just said if it doesn't change you're leaving the hood behind it it might get better if it gets better i will snap the hood in half right here i think it's probably going to be first right i kind of thought it might clean up you know i thought it would ram it into the turbine like they weren't even spinning at once it sped all the way out like in the low range speed yeah the turbo stopped spinning once the bands sped up so much yeah that's that's crazy leroy's for sure good ram air effect yeah [Music] oh my gosh see that's not going my theory right there that's a little uglier dude hey it's getting a little bit more in the turbo though [Music] i don't know see kevin i don't think we need the hood [Music] yeah it looks badass though dude doesn't look awesome but let's look at the data all right let's go let's do a full run and then we can fully all go out yeah dude don't worry about it that smoke watch broken i think on a round two no hood no need for a hood just gonna find out i mean you know i'm a data guy so what's he go for what the hell point five seven four a little bit slower huh there so we've got uh about 20 horsepower more drag 20 horse dude that's not bad that's a lot half pound that's a hat yet kevin come on now you've seen it it's a half pound of boost throw that hood in the trash it's not a 20 to 19 horsepower 19.4 horsepower difference the drag weight though 43 pounds yeah that's at 170 right yep oh dude that's nothing we're good we all need the hood guys i told you it really didn't affect the downforce numbers that much either you got actually uh 30 pounds more front down and 22 pounds less rear down i've been telling you guys for years and there we are i had to prove that they had to prove it in the data it still is a little worse but not as bad as we thought 19 horsepower yeah i mean that's right after your timing dude all right so you want to grab the nova we'll stick her in there see what kind of aerodynamics that brick has not maybe we can get one of these helmets for it yeah i was thinking maybe just taking that car off the wall there you go span them brother don't burn out this thing sounds good i think the numbers might surprise us because of how narrow it is but it's going to have a lot of lift because the front [Music] that might contribute to the power wheelies at the eighth mile yep sweet i did have a front fascia and i did break [Music] he goes through that man dude freaking leroy's roof didn't go anywhere we're good all right let's do a full test see what kind of arrow this thing has you think it's going to be the elko i don't know it's so narrow it's going to be close i think it's going to be close a little bigger the frontal area on your unit is larger you got a large frontal area it's got a five that's what they're saying i got a five head not a forehead you're trying to tell me yeah you got a large trouble area dude i don't know what to tell you that's what they're telling me they wouldn't build especially as they did though the wheels looking good i might see some methanol fly out there you know you know my parachute like got sucked in yours doesn't do that but that might be because you have more ride height eric's coming under the car oh yeah the only round edge that i have is right here off the back off the back of this one all right so the elko with the hood on 540. let's see it's a draco efficient of the elko right there see where the nova comes in at oh 5.79 so you got a little more drag dude el camino hood yeah your el camino is more aerodynamic with the hood off yeah yeah i'm not going to run with my heart anymore if i can go as fast as you hoodless then we're good so you got compared to the uh el camino baseline this will take uh 25 more horsepower oh wow 170. 25 more horsepower to 170. and the lift is astronomical [Music] so the el camino had a total of 150 pounds of lift yeah uh this has a total of 130 or sorry 830 oh my wow what 830 pounds of front lift of total was 450 front and 304 down in the rear yeah the uh nova is 573 up in the front 256 up in the rear oh my gosh dude you don't have any downforce you don't need downforce okay that explains everything with james doing wheelies all the time part of it at least no wonder it slows down so good dude it's basically trying to freaking take off wings didn't fly out here yeah so james horsepower the horsepower required for james carr to go uh 170 is 421 horsepower not bad dude thanks takes four more horsepower with your hood yeah and then with your hood on yep dude all right cool all right jackson yes sir the nova's going vaping dude that was decent that looks pretty decent [Music] a little bit low pressure right there but that's right oh [Music] wow [Music] hey dude yeah not
