TOM HANKS explains DAVID S. PUMPKINS

hi everybody you meet everybody on a Monday and everybody does nothing but they write and talk and you meet with all the writers and on Wednesday they have to have all of their pieces and I think by noon or by three o'clock because at five o'clock on Wednesday afternoon you start reading through a huge stack of everybody's sketches everybody's pieces and sometimes there's as many as as 40 or 50 of them a read through each one and out of them Lorne Michaels and the other producers will just naturally pick out maybe a dozen and they put them all up on the wall and where they ask you what you think of each one and usually about a dozen is picked and when David s pumpkins came along I was called I think it was the look called the Tower of Terror or something like that and Lorne was a football they're all on carcasses top [Music] and we all have had a long conversation about the secret to that sketch was going to be the stage and it's being able to open and close the elevator doors on cue that was the rhythm dancers you know Lauren I mean the whole thing is about the timing of the elevator doors because if they're you know they don't come up for a big clack and they open up a little bit you won't be able to do it and the truth is elevator door technology and show business has not changed it's Charlie Chaplin was making movies it comes down to one guy reading the script pulling a thing and it's gotta end maybe they worked it out and I I just thought this movie will be okay of those doors open and close on cute little did I realize now that four-year-old kids are going to be dressed as David as and that cheap pumpkin suit I think there's only like one left in existence we I had I had to bring it back in order to do a little thing for him I think with the prong just yeah we all well it's my little gift to humanity were you up give another gift to humanity if you wanted to the lovely book
