man hey you guys are my heart you know that all right and to the many many of you who have tuned in from around the country from around the world okay uh to our newest uh edition are we still getting them acclimated and moved into uh what we're doing here okay that's our brother pastor james covington and the members uh that's going to be coming into the african village out there in oklahoma city yeah in fact several of you guys have been watching me from oklahoma city and and i got some email from some of you guys saying oh my goodness oklahoma city oh my god you know we get ready to start african village here yes you are okay as well as to my dear friend and brother dr kia inyane up in rochester new york getting ready to start african village up there as well now we're getting ready to do it okay um uh oh my goodness what's the brother's name uh pastor i can't prince i think it is okay uh out there in australia all right we talked with him on this past week and uh he's been listening for a few months and uh brothers and sisters this brother from what i understand was the co-pastor of a mega thousands of members congregation he said he can't preach the lie anymore he's been offered a church in australia and he said he had to turn it down because of what his eyes have come open to his conscience simply will not allow him to preach what he has come to find is simply not true and pastor prince brother i applaud you okay he's going back to ghana in july okay and uh we had a good talk he's from ghana and we're he's gonna go back to ghana and open an african village right there in ghana okay so to my family there in ghana stand by okay uh next month uh we're gonna be getting ready to kick that off there in ghana so man i'm excited about all that is happening around the world so our brothers and sisters on military bases everywhere okay uh thank you for being a part of our work okay and spreading this message of african liberation i thank you so very much for you know uh we're not gonna sing lift every voice and sing today you know why because um i want to take my time and get to the teaching for today okay just wanna i just want to get there and i'm gonna try as much as i can anyway to share uh the screen the the scriptures uh for those of you who do not have bibles all right uh but today i'm gonna do a bible study today all right and i trust that you guys will uh follow along with me now many of you who are listeners have moved away from that okay you've moved away from the bible you you know you understand the bible for what it is and you have no interest in it whatsoever and that's fine okay however if you're going to join me in what i call the tubman ministry mother harriet tubman remember the story or about the story the truth that when she freed herself from her enslaved predicament she didn't forget about those who she had left behind in fact her mission became going back and getting those who were still enslaved right that's very important to me so i appropriate what i call the tubman ministry all right that means not forgetting my brothers and my sisters who are still where i was and you understand that okay they're still where i was so therefore a major part of my assignment is going back and rescuing them helping them to see rescuing them from the darkness that they are in and out that we that i was into okay and the only way that i can do that is go to where they are i can't speak to them from my level of awareness okay they can't that's you know that's like that's like a a lower classman trying to understand the concepts of an upperclassman okay who has matriculated a whole lot more it's just not it's just not realistic to expect those who don't know what you're talking about to grasp what you're talking about you have to teach them you have to explain to them okay so bear with me today and again those of you who have moved away from the bible i trust that you will be patient with us as you also equip yourself to go back and rescue your loved ones your friends and family members okay and those who are still stuck between those pages those covers of those 66 books or so-called books of the bible all right if you can't help rescue your brother and sister what good are you okay so don't throw up your hands on anyone don't push them aside don't don't be like many people i've heard and say oh when y'all gonna walk away from that stupid stuff it's not stupid to them because they believe it you see so my job and i trust that those of you who support the work of the african village you will also grab this vision of reaching back with the tubman ministry and rescuing those of our people who are still where we were all right on this week i was talking to a sister by way of email uh who let me know that she is a prophetess okay and and she may be watching today i hope you are sister all right uh she's a prophetess but she's been listening to me for uh a little while and following closely and she would validate or verify what i've said and it has brought her to the point now of saying you know i want to step away from that programming as well all right so her concern is being that i am a prof prophetess now what do i do okay uh am i no longer a prophetess let's deal with that kind of thing today and not only the the office of that of a prophet okay but the spiritual gifts all together all right let's deal with that today now i'm going to try my best here to uh like i said bring on and share the page of uh i may make a mess of this because it's my first time literally getting to do this um but let's see here okay and uh bear with me as i try to manipulate this to the best of my ability here okay uh hopefully you guys can see uh the the powerpoint notes there on the screen all right i tried to fill up the whole screen with it but i'm unable to do that but i hope it's large enough for you to read okay and what's really crazy about this here is i made it large enough for you to read but i can't read it okay so uh let's see what we can do here about this somebody just sent me uh okay uh man uh thank you thank you there okay uh okay oh somebody got me in a group text thing again uh i appreciate you guys trying to get the messages out but uh when y'all do that group text thing with me my phone starts digging and doing like it just did and you're not even trying to talk to me while i'm busy right now so kind of ease up on including me in group text okay just text me individually please do that all right thank you so very much now let me try to get to um and again hopefully you guys can see um what's happening here as it's happening i'm going to be going through uh verses of the biblical text but let's start off with the teaching as i always do hopefully you can see there on the screen the circle that i usually use let's follow it together what does it say the space inside this circle represents my realm of knowledge all that i think i know about whatever i think i know is depicted right here within this circle i must keep in mind that there is more to know than what is within the circumference of my awareness okay did you get that that's so important i hope you really understand that okay that means that as a teacher i'm going to say something that's outside of your circumference of awareness if you are a bible believer okay or a christian uh i'm really going to say some things today that's outside here you know what maybe i shouldn't say it that way i'm gonna show you some things in the bible today that's right outside your circumference of awareness okay and you thought it was there all along all right so let's deal with that today let's deal with that all right let's go to the next thing that i tried to share and i hope again i hope your screen is showing you this in fact let me let me check and see if it's changing along with me because if it isn't then i'm going yeah it is it looks like it is anyway good all right so let me continue uh and i said this a few weeks ago in um in my teaching uh when i was talking about um oh goodness i forgot what i talked about but anyway i started off the teaching with which you see there on the screen okay and i i've been using it ever since and it says these words when you have told so many lies on top of each other over the centuries that telling the truth about one of your early foundational lies would unravel all the lies that have been defensively piled on top of it thus exposing you for what you truly are you have no choice but to continue to lie think about that okay see this is the predicament that many of our churches and religious leaders are in i've spoken with many religious leaders who've admitted to me that they know there's something wrong with this program of religion and christianity but they're so how can i say this uh they have too much to lose it's really deep when you have too much to lose to teach the truth so it goes on to say there when your ability to maintain your control over another's reality is based on the lies about what you are and who they are you can never tell the truth got that okay that's so important understand again here's my objective this is why i do what i do this is my this reason why i was born brothers and sisters okay and that is to begin the process of undoing and reversing ideas and concepts that have been programmed into the minds of our people by the religious statements and church doctrines that have caused us to adopt a belief system that has resulted in our loss of contact with what is real our laws of contact with what is facts our laws of contact with what is historically accurate and our loss of contact with what is spiritual so my job as the teacher okay is to rescue my people today i want to deal with the misconceptions of first corinthians the 14th chapter when it comes to spiritual gifts okay that's what i'm dealing with today all right i'm gonna get right into it let's go right to the text and again i'm putting this on the screen for those of you guys who do not have bibles all right now if you have a bible i would prefer that you grab your own bible so you can make some notes in it don't be afraid to write in it okay i was going to show you mine but i don't it's not up here it's down in my office okay i was going to show you mine uh to show you that almost every page in my bible is loaded with ink for writing in it okay making notes okay and i'm not about to uh discard those notes that i've done so many years of research in to get ready to do what i'm doing today all right and that is to break it down for you so that you can get it right now let's do a verse by verse analysis here okay to show you how we've gotten it twisted have you ever heard somebody say something like um i have the gift of speaking in tongues or i have the gift of faith or i have the gift of the word of knowledge okay or i have the gift of prophecy brothers and sisters nothing is more detrimental than the misappropriation of these concepts when it comes to spiritual gifts okay let me try to break it down for you notice what for first corinthians the 14th chapter the first verse says okay and by the way i'm using the king james version i'll break it i'll transliterate it for you myself if i need to for you to get it all right let's look at these verses carefully and you'll see why we're in the predicament we're in first corinthians 14 and 1 it says follow after charity in other words and i'll translate as we go all right pursue the power of loving one another being concerned about each other okay now it's interesting that this passage starts off like this now and let me let me let me let me let me lay some ground work here before i go any further okay i don't want you to think brothers and sisters that what i'm teaching you today is the truth now what i'm gonna let me say that again what i'm gonna tell you is the truth but i don't want you to think that these verses that we're going through are the are the truth the verses that we're reading are from the book of first corinthians first corinthians was supposedly written by somebody named the apostle paul follow me very well all right so you be clear and don't get it twisted paul never historically existed so he could not have written first corinthians he could not have written romans corinthians ephesians uh philemon and titus and any other these other books okay that are attributed to him known as the pauline epistles he could not have written any of these because he did not exist well brother aidan why are you going through this because i have thousands of my people who honestly think that paul did exist and they believe the very scriptures that i'm getting ready to go through right now so the best thing i can do to help set you free from the bondage of religious literature is get into that literature along with you and show you that it is not what you thought it was you understand you see once i can show you that it is not what you thought it was then maybe your own integrity will say let me step away from this whole damn thing i mean say like that let me step away from this old doggone thing excuse me for that if i offended anyone but brothers and sisters you'd be surprised sometimes um what i go through trying to explain what i know is not true in the first place okay but trying to rescue my people who are steeped in what is not true i have to get into that mud with you and rescue you as much like a lifeguard rescuing someone who's drowning okay i have to get into the water with you to save you do you understand what i'm saying okay so for this today is really a bible study to show and i'm gonna probably be doing a lot more of this you know in other sessions for those who are still stuck in the literature that was given to us by those who wish to oppress us okay yes i have mastered that literature that's why i'm qualified to set you free from it all right so go with me here right again first corinthians 14 chapter the first verse says follow after charity pursue caring about each other pursue uh loving each other pursue doing what's best for one another that's what it means when it says follow after charity okay second part and here's where folk got twisted and desire spiritual gifts the way that is written is very dangerous it's almost like telling a person who does not know how to drive desire to drive a car and just pray for wisdom and guidance and direction on how to drive if you get on your knees and tarry and ask god to help you know how to drive when you get up off your knees you'll be able to drive anything that god wills on it see that kind of mindset actually and i know that's a little far fetched but that's exactly what we've done in the church that's exactly what we've done based on this verse right here desire spiritual gifts now what's wrong with that there's nothing wrong with desiring spiritual gifts okay in other words to desire spiritual gifts means to want to be in the position okay to be equipped to be used by the most high whenever necessary that's all that means but that's not how y'all have taken it you've taken it desire spiritual gifts in other words you've actually taken it to say follow after spiritual gifts no it says follow after charity not follow after spiritual gifts okay and it says spiritual gifts but rather follow this now yes in fact you know what if you look in your bible if you have a king james version all right the word gifts may be in italics it may be italicized for those of you who don't know whenever you see a word written in italics okay or italicized word in the biblical text that means that that word was not in the original translation but it was added to give emphasis by the compilers please understand that okay so the word gifts would not be considered inspired here well actually the whole thing is not inspired because written by paul would never exist it's not going to be inspired right but the word you know gives when you see an italicized word you know you think that that has emphasis well it has emphasis because the compilers of the bible wants that word emphasized all right not because it was in the original text in fact to be honest with you not one word in the king james version of the bible was in the original text you know why the original text wasn't written in english so let's understand that okay it wasn't written in english so if you're reading it in english that means that man got involved in it somehow or another and put his hands into it and got it all twisted with the translation and that's what i'm dealing with today okay i'm dealing with the fact that people read the bible as it is and they get it twisted and go off the deep end like we just read desire spiritual gifts and that's what many people are actually praying for spiritual gifts they're fasting to get a spiritual gift they're going on a shut-in to get a spiritual gift you follow what i'm saying wrong thing to do second verse for he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men but unto god for no man understandeth him howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries these verses brothers and sisters have made a mess in the church please follow what i'm saying notice the second verse again he that speaketh in an unknown tongue because of the word unknown because of the one word unknown which is italicized right and i just told you what italicized means if it's written if italics is written that means that it was put into the biblical text by the compilers okay understand this it was put into the biblical text by the publishers to bring emphasis to what is being said so when you emphasize unknown tongue now you're telling people all right to desire an unknown tongue and that's especially the pentecostal church that's what the whole thing is speaking in tongues is about and people feel like they are something special oh let me deal with this spirit today people feel like there's something special like god has endowed them with some spirits unique special ability because they do this unintelligible utterance kind of thing in the gathering okay where folk go off under the ball from you know and people get all excited about that yeah i can do it y'all i grew up in the pentecostal church okay i'm surrounded by it all my life it's easy you know if you if that's been your if you if you caught it by osmosis because that was your environment you know you can easily kind of do that thing all right so don't get it twisted all right don't get it though don't please don't get it twisted and say dr speaking in tongues online no i was showing you what goes on in the church especially tongues okay speaking in tongues because that's the pinnacle that that's what the so-called sign of what happened on the day of pentecost right okay and i'll deal with that in another situation but the second verse says he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men let me deal with that and and y'all when i break down the word when i break this down it's gonna make it's gonna change everything i'm telling you right now but don't take my word for what i'm saying okay first of all the word tongue comes from the word where we get our english word glossary from okay that's all tongues is glossa where we get our word glossary all right please understand don't take my word for it check it out get a get a concordance man get you know and and see what i'm saying for yourself it has nothing to do with some kind of unintelligible you know you know i saw one preacher on television trying to act like he's speaking in tongues i turned it down i turned the channel man i was so brothers and sisters who see one once you know better once you see asininity you just can't put up with it so easily all right and then what even makes it worse is when you see how gullible your people are to this foolishness what does it mean when it says unknown tongue well let's look at the context here first of all and follow this very well so you can see the backdrop that we're dealing with we're talking about a major city called corinth a major city like such as new york city or san francisco right okay a major trade route where a lot of different cultures and language speaking people were at the time follow this now okay i'm trying to give you a backdrop of the culture of that day here we're talking about a newly formed religion that's in its infant stages so it's not like today where you have a church almost in every other block all right back then it was one congregation all right one christian congregation christianity was in its infant stages followed me very well so all christians gathered at this one location all right regardless of whatever language they spoke all right so here you have various language speaking people in the same room with each other so imagine this here you have a man from spain okay here you have a man from egypt okay or from uh france okay or from italy but they're in the same room and each of them speaks the their own language and this is where the whole concept of unknown tongues comes from in this text it says for he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men now how you have twisted this today you bible believers how you have twisted it how i used to have it twisted too okay is i used to tell folk y'all when i'm speaking in tongues i'm not speaking to people i'm speaking to god because it is one verse right here he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaking not unto men but unto god for no man understandeth him how albeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries what is that verse actually saying let me translate that for you okay within the context of that time those of you who are going to stand up and teach in your language okay other folk in the room from other language speaking countries don't know what you're saying your speech or your tongue or your language or your glosa your glossolia is unknown to them they don't understand what you're saying just like if somebody from turkey should walk up to you right now start speaking turkish would you know what they're saying they may be saying the most wonderful thing about god and the glory of god but you wouldn't know it because you don't understand what they're saying that's the context of this verse people ain't got nothing to do with some some ghosts coming down out the sky and overshadowing you and empowering you and you you go but your eyes roll back in your head and you go off and say no had nothing like nothing like that but what has happened is people have had an agrigore okay which is a manifestation of an ecstatic thought follow this and what you did is you went into the bible to find okay you went into the bible to find a verse that says something like what's going on or what you went through and that becomes that verse that you use to support your experience but he that speaks in an unknown tongue okay is actually saying for to that person who's speaking in a language that other folk in the room don't understand that's all an unknown tongue is brothers and sisters it's not an it's not unknown to everybody on the planet it's unknown to the persons who's listening to you you're not speaking in an unknown tongue meaning that the language is speaking on nobody knows it no as no one in the room knows it remember the context here we're talking about what goes on in the setting when people come together that's all this is about all right don't make a doctrine out of this man as what we have done now let's go to the next verse third verse but he that prophesied speaketh unto men to edification exhortation and comfort now we got a problem right off the bat okay because those of you out there who call yourself prophets all right follow me very well notice how i said that i don't mean no disrespect okay or in fact you know what in fact because because women have now more women have come into this we got to make room for them too so they are profit tests you follow me you have your profit and your profit tests right that make it feminine in other words right okay so here's what we're dealing with third verse he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification exhortation and comfort how many times have you heard somebody say child she prophesied to me that such and such was going to happen that man came and prophesied prophesied that i was going that by next year this time i was gonna have my own house that that that man came and prophesied man he boy he prophesied to me he told me stuff that i never would have known if he hadn't said it and and see that's what you call prophesying that's that's that's the tradition that you came up in brothers and sisters nothing could be farther from the truth okay most of the time in the church what you see happening under the disguise of prophecy is somebody trying to tell you what they want you to know and make you think that it came from god you know why because the word prophecy has to take place through what's called a prophet right that's what prophecy is what comes to a prophet okay the word prophet comes from the root word prophetos which only means a mouthpiece for god that's all prophet prophetos means prophetos means you're only a mouthpiece for god in other words just like the mouthpiece on a horn or a trumpet that's what you are you only make the sound that the trumpeter or the master is giving you to make you understand you don't make a sound on your own just like the mouthpiece on a horn cannot make a sound on its own okay it needs the person to blow into it to make a sound same thing with the prophet the prophet does not speak on his or her own they are only god's mouthpiece that's all the word prophetos means you are god's mouthpiece okay however what we see going on in church is more than that you hear people saying yo first of all what goes on let me let me show you how i grew up share some things with you okay we said folks in the church and then all of a sudden they'd stand up and take charge of the service and no matter what was going on everything had to stop and get quiet because god was speaking and that's how we were taught okay so if a person got up and went on and and got into themselves okay and decided to just take over for the sake of being recognized for the sake of being in the limelight for the sake of being popular okay you know uh for the sake of attention that's really all it is let's keep it real for the sake of attention right okay then get up in church on that elbow oh shut that up i mean i've seen that go on when ministers that the pastor could be up teaching and somebody wants to take over the service and they do that in the past the teacher would actually stop teaching because god is speaking dog gone pastor i thought when you were teaching god was speaking that's what i thought also reverend why you up teaching that's not god speaking somebody else jumps up and starts now here's the deep thing about it that that person who stood up and goes into the holy soul this i thought then they turn around and and give you in english what they just said through unintelligible utterances or what they call speaking in tongues okay man this is taking me a long time to get through this okay and i got a long way to go yet all right but do you follow what i'm saying here okay they get up your honda whatever they're going to say and then they turn around and say yeah i say unto thee saith the lord and then they say you know thou need us to stop thy wicked ways thou needed god i am tired of these saith the lord and all that kind of stuff and rebuking and condemnation and words of warning and and oh my god that that's what goes on in the church today under the disguise of prophecy we had a guy come to my mom's church years ago he called himself a prophet and the congregation referred to him as a prophet as well you might have heard me share this before and one day he came and and and told my mom he was right in the middle of his message and he turned around and looked at my mom and looked up in the sky up in the ceiling i should say oh why did i dr gilmo god absolutely told me to tell you you're not gonna die you're not gonna die you're gonna be raptured said the lord my mom burst out into this loud scream because the prophet said she's not gonna die so you know what for the whole next few weeks guess what everybody was saying that it's been prophesied that their pastor their teacher was not gonna die but she was gonna be raptured well brothers and sisters it saddens me to let you know that my mom did pass away on april the third 2005 she was not raptured okay but our folk think that it was prophesied that she wasn't gonna die just like some of y'all watching me right now it's been prophesied to you stuff that you want to hear it's been prophesied to you and what happens is that's how they play with your emotions man they come and they give you this whole thing and you get up running it's been prophesied i see i see your money coming i see your money coming and you take off running because it's been prophesied to you did you go get a financial blessing people [Music] notice what it says the third verse but he that prophesied speaketh unto men to three things one edification that means providing information to you that helps to build you up make you more aware okay second thing exhortation giving you words of wisdom to help guide you through life that's exhortation and comfort well that's self-explanatory okay edification exhortation and comfort what goes on in the church today under prophecy or prophesying are not those three things in fact is the opposite it's rebuke condemnation and embarrassment you know i'm telling you the truth these so-called prophets bring folk that put calling folk out the audience and then coming up in front and talking to them in front of the whole congregation and embarrassing them expose call themselves exposing them all that kind of stuff calling somebody up out of the congregation god told me to tell you you need to stop you need to stop i see death coming you need to stop you need i see i see i see i see i see i see homosexuality i see aids come on everybody in the room can see that come on people stop being so gullible let's continue these verses so you can make it plain i can make it plain to you fourth verse he that speaketh in an unknown tongue edith himself again what is unknown tongue here is it some kind of is it some kind of divine language okay or prayer language that's another word that y'all are using today you know i was at church one day and the pastor said everybody stand and just go into your prayer language and everybody stood up the whole congregation that i'm doing unintelligible utterances and i'm looking at them and i'm saying man do these folk realize what's going on here and i'm going to break that down for you in a little bit about the whole congregation acting like that it's right there in the book right there in the right in your book fourth verse he that speaketh in a language that the other people in the room do not understand okay is only edifying himself he's the only person or she's the only person that's getting something out of what they're saying because everybody else nobody else understands them nobody else understands you but he that prophesieth and again what is prophecy according to what we just read he that speaketh unto the people to edification exhortation and comfort okay the whole congregation is benefited by it that's what it means when it says he that prophesy edified the church everybody benefits from what's being said because you can understand what's being said fifth verse i would that everybody in this room had the ability to speak in different languages i would that everyone in this room could speak greek or span spanish or or italian or french or or egyptian or or you follow what i'm saying that's what he's saying i wish that i wish that everybody in this room had the ability to communicate with the other language speaking people in this room but rather that you prophesied rather that you speak to each other to edification exhortation and comfort now here's where we got it twisted follow these next few words for greater oh my god what in the hell did you tell somebody that for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks in a language other folk don't understand now when you tell a person who's grown who grew up with low self-esteem if you tell a person who's excuse me i don't mean no harm but i got to keep it real with you if you tell a person who is ignorant greater is he that prophesied okay don't you know that their low self-esteem and their their egotistical need and you've already told them in the first verse okay follow after spiritual gifts i'm sorry i said no it says follow after charity desire spiritual gifts you've already told them in first verse desire spiritual gifts now you're saying greater is he that prophesy so you telling this person that the person who prophesies or a prophet is greater that's what you're actually saying a prophet is greater than anyone else see that see see how y'all got to twist it that is not what the biblical text is saying and that's why y'all man oh um i hope this is making sense family what i'm trying to break down to you so greater is he that that prof but rather that you prophesy for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaketh with tongues except he interpret now why you say accept the interpret because if a person is going to speak in a language that others in the room don't understand it's meaningless to the other people in the room unless the speaker is going to interpret what he said for the other people in the room now my concern and see again here's we got it twisted in the church this implies that the speaker and the interpreter is one in the same okay now that would be the case if the speaker is speaking to other people in the room who speaks their language and then turns around and interprets what they said for the people in the room who do not speak that language that's when the speaker interpreter can be one and the same if they can do that you grab what i'm saying here right okay so if you interpret what you said in the languages other people don't understand that becomes equivalent to prophesying or speaking to edification exhortation and comfort that the church may receive edifying notices says it again that the church may receive verifying that everybody can be benefited by what's going on that's the key that's the emphasis here everything that happens must be for the benefit of all not for the glorification of of a few and yet that's what you see in our churches okay just uh just certain ones in the congregation got the reputation of being a prayer warrior and they they're proud about that like they wear a badge i was a prayer warrior or i got the gift of healing or i got the gift of tongues or i got the gift of knowledge see just saying stuff like that tells me now that i know better how ignorant you are okay and i'll break it down for you so you'll see what i'm talking about all right let's continue sixth verse it says now brethren if i come unto you speaking in a tongue or indifferent in a language that you don't understand what good am i to you and i'ma transliterate this as i go here it says what shall i profit you he said what good am i to you if i'm speaking in a language you don't understand except i shall speak to you either by revelation or by knowledge or by prophesying or by doctrine in other words if i come speaking to you in a language that you don't speak all right what good am i to you unless it's revealed to you unless you're able to in intuitively discern okay what i'm saying to you or you can perceive what i'm saying to you seventh verse and even things without life-giving sound whether they pipe or heart except they give a distinction in the sounds how shall it be known what is piped or harp in other words what he's saying when the music begins to play if the musician isn't playing accurately if the musician isn't playing the melody as it should be played how are the people gonna know what song is being played it says an eighth verse for if the trumpet give an uncertain sound or the bugler like an you know in in the military the bugle you know i think that's called uh sound the alarm charge or whatever right okay if the bugler is supposed to be playing and the bugler plays you know how many people would die in battle because the bugler wasn't clear in the tones that he played that's his point that's the point that the writer is making here about speaking in a language that you don't understand if i'm speaking a language you don't understand what i'm saying how can you prepare yourself for battle how can you do anything if you don't understand what i'm saying so this is not really a passage to promote speaking in tongues rather it is a passage to say don't speak in tongues okay you'll see it all right ninth verse so likewise you except you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood how shall it be known what is spoken for you shall speak into the air in other words so those of you who like to boast and proud be proud and show everybody how spiritual you are walking around tomorrow you know doing all that kind of stuff right there okay it's telling you right there in the ninth verse all you're doing is speaking words into the air you ain't even speaking words you're just speaking sounds and it's just going into the air it's not benefiting nobody okay you think you you think it is you think you think that the word of the lord is coming forth okay brothers and sisters that's not how it goes that's not how it works all right 10 verse there are it may be so many kinds of voices in the world and none of them is without signing significant signification right and that was what it's actually saying there is there are a lot of different languages many different language speaking people on the planet right and all of them are important within that culture okay but to people who don't know what you're saying you could be saying the most wonderful thing in the world but if i don't know what you're saying it means nothing to me unless somebody interprets for me what you said 11th verse therefore and that he's what he's saying if i know not the meaning of the voice i shall be unto him to speak of the barbarian okay almost equivalent to you know somebody that means nothing to you almost like an enemy to you because i don't understand what you're saying and he that speaketh to me shall be a barbarian to me okay there can be no fellowship because of poor communication that's what this is about brothers and sisters okay 12th verse goes on to say even so for as much as you are zealous of spiritual gifts that's key boy if that don't sound like us today you're zealous of spiritual gifts you want to be you want to be important so bad that you and see if you notice that the gifts that a lot of people appropriate in the church are what i call limelight gifts okay they're not behind the curtain kind of gifts like the gifts of help the gift of helps for example all right that's a very important gift in the ministry the ministry of helping okay that is so important because without the ministry of helps there ain't gonna be no ministry period all right but folk don't want to do that they don't want to be behind the scenes they want to be seen they want the lime like this that gives that's gonna that's gonna make them boisterous or loud in front of the congregation for example let me show you how deep this this this this psychosis is to be recognized in the church do you not know that and and i want you to start paying attention to this do you not know that most churches okay especially the pentecostal church most churches i call it a dance floor most churches got a dance floor yeah they sure do down in the front of the church right between the front pew and the pulpit right there's this big open area and a lot of churches you know what i call it the dance floor you know because every every time somebody get happy all right or they want to dance or they call shouting right what do they do i don't care where they are in the church i don't care where they are in the room they could be almost to the back of the congregation right have you ever seen people jump up out their seat and run all the way down to the front of the church to the dance floor okay and then start doing their thing okay yeah why is that dancing i mean that that's pretty that's that's space that can be used for for seat sitting so people can learn oh man you gotta you gotta have a place to express yourself in most churches especially most black churches they got a dance floor man right up front yeah okay and what's how is your following let's follow us now how is your running up to the front of the church to the dance floor and doing your thing and you know you know doing the chicken you know funky chicken whatever okay how is your doing that okay edifying anybody else remember this whole chapter is about edifying the congregation everybody needs to be edified meaning enlightened built up how are how is your personal gratification to the edifying of the congregation good question isn't it okay so he says i know y'all zealous of spiritual gifts i know y'all are and that's problematic but let me deal with that all right he goes on to say seek that you may excel to the edifying of the church says it again you doing your thing it's your thing do what you want to do okay that don't work anymore them days are over with those days are gone people are waking up people see you for what you are people see that you just want to be seen and you're using using the whole disguise of spiritual gifts okay for your flesh on parade as the old folk used to call it i know you're zealous of spiritual gifts but again it says then 13th verse seek that you may excel to the edifying of the church that's what's more important that the people are enlightened that the people learn something 13th verse wherefore let him that speaketh in a language that other people don't understand let that brother work or let that sister work on being able to interpret what they're saying to the other language speaking people in the room and don't just say pray i mean he says pray here but pray means to attend to in this verse work on develop yourself learn the language of the other people in the room so you can communicate what you're saying to them as well 14th verse he goes on to say for if i pray in a tongue that i don't understand or a language in a language i'm not used to my spirit is praying i'm groaning right in my spirit he's saying but my understanding is unfruitful now this verse has also been instrumental in misleading people he did notice this verse very carefully brothers and sisters it didn't say for when i pray in an unknown tongue didn't say that it said for if i pray in an unknown tongue my spirit prays but my understanding is untruthful so he he's not saying he prays and and in tongues get that dog gonna get it right he is not saying i pray in tongues like some of y'all are doing in your churches and you're using this verse to justify it again it does not say for when i pray in an unknown tongue or in a language i don't understand didn't say when i praise this for if i pray and the very next verse lets you know that he does not pray in an unknown tongue because the very verse says so what is it then in other words what good is it let's read that again 14th verse for if i pray in an unknown tongue my spirit prayeth but my understanding is unfruitful so he goes to say so what good is it then in the next verse then he tells you how he will pray he says i will pray with the spirit and i will pray with the understanding also which means evidently he's not praying in an unknown tongue and i will sing with the spirit and i will sing with the understanding also in other words again the key here of emphasis the key of emphasis is being sure that what's going on is understood people know what's going on okay running out of time man let's move on here 16th verse else when thou shalt bless with the spirit how shall the the person who other people in the room okay of the unlearned say amen or how can they agree with what you're saying how can they support what you're saying how can they give thanks and what you're saying being that they don't understand what you're saying what you're saying is meaningless to the folk in the room who don't understand you okay 17th verse for thou verily give us thanks well what you're saying is good okay but the person sitting here hearing you doesn't get anything out of what you're saying they're not edified by what you're saying okay so brothers and sisters i hope that you can see from what we're reading so far that speaking in tongues is not being promoted here but it's being restricted it's being disciplined this being is being given a guideline and we'll break that down some more as we go next verse he says i thank my god i speak with tongues more than all you guys and according to tradition okay notice how i'm saying that according to tradition we were taught in in bible study programs that this guy named paul was was fluent in many languages okay and that's what this verse supposedly means i speak in various languages i speak with glossolia more than all of you guys or more and i can speak in different languages more than all of you guys but notice what he says but yet in the church i don't do that i would he says i would rather speak five words with my understanding but no this is see you don't hear this but this verse emphasized at all i would rather speak five words with my understanding that by my voice i can teach others again that's what this is about it's about being able to teach or make plain to the other people who are listening to you so again if they don't understand what you're saying when you're speaking in other languages he's saying don't do that unless somebody can break down or interpret what you're saying so that other people can be benefited or edified by what you're saying he says i can speak in all y'all i can speak in all y'all's languages yet in the church i'd rather speak five words with my understanding that by my voice i might teach others also than ten thousand words in a language that folks don't understand do y'all see that verse right there i'd rather speak five words that people understand than ten thousand words that they do not understand twentieth verse brethren be not children and understanding in other words he's saying y'all grow up and stop acting immature and getting all excited over these abilities that y'all are practicing and carrying out in the congregation and nobody being benefited from it but you stop it that's what this is saying here man you want to act like children then act like children when it comes to being jealous of each other you want to act like children then act like children when it comes to backbiting and talking about each other that's what it means how beard and malice be ye children you want to act like children act like children when it comes to not wanting to speak to each other okay because you're not children are man children have a fistfight and ten minutes later they'll be playing together but an understanding appear be adult be mature be developed be grown 21st verse in the law it is written with men of other tongues and other lips will i speak unto this people and yet for all that they will not hear me saith the lord okay now y'all have used that verse as well misuse it you've inserted yourself do y'all not know y'all these verses have absolutely nothing to do nothing to do with our experiences in church today but yet we go to these verses to support our unscriptural practices in the church because you take them out of context and i'm trying to put it in context for you to free you from this programming 22nd verse wherefore now check out this but there's another verse you don't hear taught in church wherefore tongues are for a sign now some evidently a lot of y'all stopped reading right there with that verse okay because i remember growing up in the church man they they man they did everything they could to get me to speak in tongues because that was supposed to be the evidence that you have the holy ghost or the sign of speaking in tongues is proof that you have the holy ghost so guess what pentecostal church folk do they look for tongues to be the sign or the evidence play on words whatever word you want to use so and then that's what says here therefore tongues are for a sign but not to them that believe but to them that believe not so why are church folk depending on tongues as signs or as a sign or evidence or proof that a person has the spirit of god or the holy ghost when here clearly says tongues are are not a sign for the believer it's for the unbeliever but then again let's deal with the word again tongues come on glossalia language not unintelligible utterance language right the language is to the unbeliever so the unbeliever can come into the room and hear what's being said and it makes sense to the unbeliever and the unbeliever is convicted you're going to see that in a minute or they're convicted because they understand what's being said 23rd verse notice here it is if therefore the whole church be come together into one place and all speak with tongues now see this in your head if the whole church is if everybody's in one room in the auditorium okay oh everybody's in one place and everybody's speaking in languages that other folk don't understand so everybody's doing it all this whole stuff going on okay and i'm sure some of y'all seen what i say i know what i'm doing may be comical to some but i got to demonstrate what i'm talking about so you can see where we are okay if the whole church be coming together into one place and everybody's speaking like that and there comes in one who is unlearned or a guest or a visitor or an unbeliever right won't they say y'all are crazy it says right there will they not say that y'all are mad what's wrong with these people in here carrying on like this we know why because they're not hearing what they're not hearing in their language what makes sense to them you may be you might be in the room saying in your language god you're wonderful god i thank you for being so awesome thank you for making ways for me out of no ways if you're saying it in the language everybody can understand then everybody can benefit from you praising and glorifying god okay but somebody may be doing the same thing tomorrow don't nobody know what you're saying man that's why the next verse says but if all prophesy in other words speak to edification exhortation and comfort and a language that everybody can understand and there come in one that's not a believer or they don't know what's what you what's going on okay they're convinced of all and judged of all in other words it would they they can make sense out of what's being said here okay 28th verse i'm sorry not 20th 25th verse and thus are the secrets of the hearts made manifest why because people can understand what's going on okay and so falling down on people's on their faces they will worship god because they're convicted by what they heard and you understand what i'm saying and then these same people will be able to go out and say oh my god i was in a a setting today with a congregation of people and and and the words that were uttered were so beautiful the words that were uttered was that was shared with me was so powerful and so awesome okay they're just some beautiful people over there that's what people will go out and say okay next verse how is it then brethren when you come together every one of you have a psalm another one has a doctrine another one has a tongue another word for doctrine is teaching have a tongue or i have a revelation or have an interpretation it says but let all things i don't care what you got what what what you have to share whatever it is you have to share or you want to share with the congregation when we come together whatever it is be sure it's to the edifying of everybody in the room next verse says if any man speaks in an unknown language or a glossary right that other folk in the room don't understand let it be by two not a whole group of you guys doing this let it be by two at the most by three and then by course one at a time one must speak out of time and not only that and then goes and say and let one interpret for those in the room who don't understand the language of the speaker okay the speaker may be from another country and the people in the room don't understand what he's saying so an interpreter must be present now this next verse is going to shut it all down but if there be no interpreter let him keep silent in the church and let him speak to himself and god in other words if there's nobody there to interpret what you're saying to those who don't know what you're saying or understand your language you must not speak keep it to yourself keep it between you and god that's what it's actually saying is that what goes on in our churches today you know good and well is not okay let's deal with this let's just all i'm doing y'all is just going through these verses with you right there in your bible show you how you got to twist it okay it says let the prophets speak two or three and let the other judge if anything be revealed to another that sitteth by let the first hold his peace notice these instructions here that's not being followed in our church today for you may all prophesy one by one one at a time that everybody may learn in other words everybody you may you may want you may have a teaching or you may have words for exhortation education and comfort maybe four or five of you guys from five or six different countries and all you guys have a word to share with us okay but the point is somebody has to be able to explain or or interpret or translate what you're saying for the sake of people in the room who don't understand what you're saying and this whole thing about you know i couldn't help myself the holy ghost just took over y'all stop that stuff okay that next verse clearly tells you that that's not how it works and the spirits of the prophets are subjects to the prophets this whole stuff was something got a hold of me and just took charge took over now if it took over okay it's not the right spirit not the right energy i'll tell you right now okay and it goes on to say 33rd verse for god is not the author of confusion but of peace as in all the churches to all the saints now let's do a 30 34 verse oh my goodness wow look what they put into the bible let your women keep silent in the church oh for it is not permitted unto them to speak but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law brothers and sisters let me share testimony with you now based on this right here i remember my my first year bible college uh at northeastern bible college nes and essex fells new jersey years ago my first year i'm sitting here with all the white folk and of course at that point in my development i saw them as more knowledgeable than us because that's we're going to their schools right right we're going to black university i'm going to northeastern bible college one of the most reputable bible colleges in the country all right uh my professor dr dahl you might have heard me mention him because that's the one who said the bible is an incredible book all right i remember when he was teaching on this let the women keep science it is not permitted for women to speak in the church what in the world see at the time i was a bible believer but of course my church i didn't see that verse you know why because women were very very active in the church i grew up in okay in fact to be honest with you if it wasn't for the women there would not have been a church for me to grow up in so of course verses like what we just read were not mentioned often if at all okay and your church is today where your your pastors are female and and and female leadership this verse is not mentioned they they're not they're gonna they're gonna ignore this verse okay now don't get me wrong i'm not saying that this verse is valid i'm not i repeat i am not saying that this verse is valid not at all okay this verse is the result of what i call european male chauvinism okay to even put something like this in the bible let your women keep silence in the churches for it is not permitted unto them to speak but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law okay 35th verse and now let's just notice this notice how how i can't come up with the right word notice how uh how debasing this is to the women and if they will learn anything like women have a problem learning and if they will learn anything let them ask their husbands at home for it is a shame for women to speak in the church brothers and sisters these two verses right here had literally made this this brother that you're listening to right now something came over me that day um when i was in class at northeastern and um i went home and of course my mom is the pastor of the church right i went home and had the unmitigated audacity to say to my african mother okay the woman who is responsible for me being everything that i am today i have the audacity the unmitigated gall to walk up to one of the greatest preachers ministers pastors i've ever known i had the audacity to say to her mom you need to resign from pastoring she was in the kitchen washing dishes and and she stopped and looked at me with this look on her face and said why why why why you say that and i had the nerve to say to this black woman who was the pastor of the largest black church in north jersey i had the audacity to say to her mom the bible says that you are not allowed to speak in the church she just turned and went back to washing dishes she just completely ignored it it's almost like i didn't say nothing and i said mom it says the bible says you're you're not pr you're not permitted to speak in church okay it's a shame for you to speak in the church she didn't say nothing i'm so glad that the ancestors empowered my mother with enough wisdom to realize i was a fool to bring that european crap home to my my my mother woman who had transformed the lives of thousands of people with her ministry of caring and loving transformed my life she didn't birth me she took me in because my mother and grandmother had died and and she was my grandmother's sister and i'm the man i am today i'm dr ray higgins because of dr allen gilmore a woman you know sadiq i know i'm way past my time y'all but i got to just deal with this this whole this whole male chauvinist thing man is deep i remember when i had my mom to come speak for me in st louis okay for for my appreciation there i think it was my fifth year there and um this was in 2003 i started in what 98 yeah so my fifth year right my mom came and spoke and she was gonna you know having the program having the programs made the church clerk at the time called and said uh pastor i'm doing the programs for sunday i need to know the name of the speaker so i can put it in the program so i said oh reverend dr aileen gilmore spell that for me pastor so i spelled it right a-l-l-e-n-e gilmore she said okay pastor thank you hung up the phone called me back two minutes later said pastor uh how you spell the name again i said a-l-l-e-n-e gilmore and she said is this a woman i said yes sister it's my mother oh okay i hung up the phone call back another two minutes later pastor you've been doing such a good job we don't want to see you mess up now i said why you say that i'm not gonna call her name why you say that right she said because we don't allow women to speak at our church the previous pastor was that strict and chauvinistic and then and then the sister said to me now we don't mind if your mom have a few words to say okay but then she'll have to stand down on the floor when she says that she's not allowed to go up and pulled it i said god give me the wisdom on how to handle this predicament here okay i'm not about to allow my mother my pastor at the time right to come to the church that i now serve as the pastor and stand in my pulpit or not be able to stand in my pulpit right so my mom came and was getting ready to go out into the audience i mean to the to the service and i grabbed i told mom i said you're the first woman in the history of this congress this church to step into the pulpit y'all the the previous pastor the ushers the nurses when they would bring the man a glass of water they would walk behind him and hand him the water over his shoulder because he forbade them to walk into the pulpit that chauvinist but yet it was a women's money that built the damn food pit you understand me okay if it hadn't been for those women in that congregation there would not be a pulpit there wouldn't be a building there okay so and these d okay all right so anyway i escorted my mama to the pulpit and she ended up preaching that sunday and that was the that was the groundbreaking thing of getting rid of that that chauvinistic spirit in the african village in st louis we believe strongly in the resurrection of the divine feminine principle okay so these two verses we just read come just just totally understand that i know that they're not from god i want you to know they're not from god too okay god would never say such a thing okay the women are not allowed to speak it is through the women brothers and sisters that we hear the voice of god that we see the expression of god when you look at the womb of the woman and how up in that womb in the darkness of that matter life comes forth that's the expression of god man that's the manifestation of god okay notice the next verse what came the word of god out from you or came unto you only in other words what god only spoke to you and gave you this next verse if any man think himself to be a prophet follow this now if any man think himself to be a prophet and since there's so many women now into the program as well let's not exclude the women if any man think himself to be a prophet or any war man think herself to be a prophet test okay or if you think you're spiritual acknowledge that the things that i write unto you are the commandments of the lord in that deep isn't that deep if you think if you think that you're spiritual then acknowledge that what i'm saying came from god
