The world has created the China problem. We've allowed them to became a developed nation that doesn't have to play by the same rules as everyone else. We shouldn't continue to allow companies to bypass fair compensation and worker's rights laws by simply outsourcing their labor to countries that don't value those things.
my 5 cent...
I consider this is not only a german problem, but germans are quite good into it these days:
the major players in germany are more share holder value orientaded than into inovation.
An insight into the "Diesel-Scandal" gives a good impression about their thinking:
"we cannot request a Porsche / A8 / Tuareg driver to fill up the additive tank (urea) every x.000 km" - it seemed to be a problem for them to find space for bitter ad-blue tanks somewhere in their vehicle. THAT was one of the reasons for them to start investigating into cheating technique.
Also, the germans are most driven by technology which is subsidized by goverment. Everybody digged into electric mobility, completly ignoring the efforts which are needed to build the batteries (big dependency on china for the raw materials) or which are needed to recycle the them - how many care are laying around on several scrap yards because nobody knows what to do with the lithium cells? this reminds me very much on the complete nuclear power development: the energy production is rather clear and subsidized as well - the recycling is pushed over to govermental efforts, the profit over 30-something years has been spread with the shareholders...
Investing into real alternative concepts or even have e deeper look into exhaust gas from vehicles has been left out. Diesel is one of the most effective fossil fuel available and filtration technique is really sophisticated these days that You can clean a lot. But it was a nice targed to shoot on, rather than giving the real facts.
Hydrogen has been considered as an alternative fuel years ago - but it was not propperly susidized, so the plans were restored into the shelves.
And: (german) auto-industry is as flexible as oil and gas: we DO have this stuff, so now we have to harvest it down to the last profit, refurbishing our nice and modern and expensive and subsidized factorys will only harm our income, give a shit on innovative thinking.
Corona showed us, that there are technologies, which germany as well as other industry countries are depending on basically china, taiwan and korea: no covid masks were manufacured in Europe, everybody was screaming "we HAVE to start production domesticaly" - look around: the only manufactors which supplied a reasonable quantity of these masks were cheating one or the other way.
Cars are withheld because the makers cannot get the chips into their warehouse - but does anybody consider rebuilding a chip factory in Europe (or US)? No, it appears to be cheaper to pruchase this stuff from overseas.
Everybody knows, but nobody will admit that, if china closes their borders, the rest of the world will end up in a crisis, that makes the black friday or the turndown of leeman look like christmas eve.
The resume: ok, well understood! Do something.
YOU do something!
I am old enough not to experience this anymore...
and my children will have enough inheritance from my assets to by one ore another dinghy to leave home for shopping...
Wusste nicht das der BMW Chef ein Bond Villain ist
