and welcome to the very first live stream concert of the tlu bands tonight you'll hear an eclectic selection of music that will be very similar to our prism concert in that there will be large ensemble pieces and then small ensemble pieces mixed in tonight's concert is a combination of live and pre-recorded music to allow us to be in the auditorium together for a safe amount of time i'm delighted that you're with us and i really appreciate the hard work that the students have done this semester to be allowed to perform and the support of all of our administration and the school of music uh as well as our theater tech people for making this happen tonight so we'll open our program with carlos itos i won't talk between each piece because the program's listed on the website please [Music] [Music] good evening and thank you so much for being with us tonight we want to take a few minutes to recognize and celebrate our december 2020 graduating seniors we hope that they've made memories and connections that will last forever first up is kevin borgfield who is completing dual degrees in music performance and music education kevin's main area of focus is orchestra of course because he's a double bass player but he has been a huge part of the tou jazz band the tlu wind ensemble and our tlu mariachi program kevin is currently completing his student teaching but his plans for after graduation are to secure a substitute or teaching position somewhere on the north side of san antonio for the spring semester he also hopes to gain acceptance into graduate school for the fall of 2021 to pursue a master's degree in double-based performance kevin expresses his appreciation to his family friends and professors for never giving up on him and for always pushing him to become better at what he does we'd like to express our thanks to kevin for everything that he's given us musically in the past four years next we celebrate thailand kulp who's completing her bachelor of music in music education ty's plans for after graduation are to move back to north texas right after graduation where she and casper and her husband maverick will start house and job hunting very soon she really wants to teach elementary music and we know she's going to be great thank you tai for being such a wonderful flute player influence on all around you and a great student worker you've been like a right hand to me and i really appreciate everything that you've done next up is abigail burch besides being a great clarinet player abigail will be completing her bachelor of science in nursing abigail plans to become a pediatric icu nurse she's had some great interviews this week so good luck in the interview process moving forward abigail gives her thanks to her parents and siblings for supporting her through her journey and for walking through the highs and lows of nursing school with her we thank you abigail for being a wonderful clarinetist for being a great communicator for being a contributor in everything that you do i will miss you so much abigail good luck in your future which i know is bright next up we have jimmy lopez who's finishing his bachelor of music in music education jimmy plans to remain in the seguin and new braunfels area and look for a teaching job he also plans to sub part-time and continue his work as an i.t assistant at carne city jimmy's favorite memories from tlu include meeting michael lowenster at clare networks and to being able to bond with his tau beta sigma and kappa kappa psi brothers and sisters at the southwest district convention he also enjoyed working bba concessions where it looks like he drank a little dr pepper sometimes jimmy thanks all the school of music faculty have helped him to get this far and we thank you jimmy for being a wonderful representative of tou in so many ways thank you and best of luck in the future next up is vanessa aguirre who will be completing her bachelors of science in nursing her plans for after graduation are to work as a pediatric hematology and oncology nurse and we have breaking news as of yesterday vanessa received a call offering her a position at methodist children's hospital on the pediatric oncology and hematology unit congratulations vanessa we are so proud of you it sounds like you are graduating with your dream job vanessa's quote is never give up hope all things are working for your good one day you'll look back on everything you've been through and thank god for it vanessa i see you're thanking me here but i want to thank you for that wonderful smile great bass clarinet playing and that fantastic attitude you brought into rehearsal with you every single week for the last four years it's been such a pleasure thanks for sharing your time with me and with all of us congratulations next up caleb moreno who's finishing his bachelor of music in music performance caleb shares his thanks to his teachers and mentors at tou and for the steadfast support and love of his family caleb shares a quote with us today there is no such thing as not worshiping everybody worships the only choice we get is what to worship caleb i just thank you for your years of great musicianship and for the interesting conversations that we've had you've definitely challenged me and made me think in lots of different ways we appreciate you and we're going to miss you now we celebrate danny gloria who will be completing her bachelor of arts in music danny plans to become a certified music educator and make the world a better place one student at a time and i know she can do that danny expresses her thanks to me and to professor bedell for believing in her and to william for being her biggest supporter danny it has been a joy knowing you over these past years you're a wonderful musician a wonderful person and you've been a great percussion section mom your support and creativity and hard work will be missed but we're very excited about your future thank you danny next up beck thurston who is finishing his bachelor's of music in music education beck is currently completing his student teaching and after graduation he plans to teach lessons while searching for a job as a middle school band director beck thanks his parents and jules for being by his side throughout his entire college experience and i thank you beck for serving as a great bulldog band association president student conductor for the hounds of sound pep band for playing in the band and singing in the choir you've been a great music student at tlu it is hard to believe it's almost over when we think back to all the years of summer music academy to now we've known each other for a long time and i'm very proud to know you finally alyssa schneider who's finishing her bachelor of science in molecular biology with a minor in chemistry alyssa is a wonderful percussionist and keyboard player alyssa's plans for after graduation include applying to medical school and working as a medical scribe in the san antonio medical center alyssa i think you'll be successful applying to medical school and i can't wait to see where your future takes you alyssa thanks for family friends and fiance harrison for endless love and support she also thanks me and tlu for giving her the opportunity to stay involved in music even as a non-music major well alyssa i thank you and tlu thanks you for all the musical contributions you've made for that wonderful smile and great attitude you've been a rock solid member of the tlu bands all the way through college and i can't thank you enough it was such a blessing when you transferred to tlu and that is it for our december 2020 graduating seniors thank you so much for all of the beautiful music over the years it's been such a pleasure to work with you know that our love and support goes with you and we can't wait to hear about your bright bright futures live stream that was a lot of emojis but that was been a lot of fun to watch uh so we're here with the second portion of the live part of our concert the tou wind ensemble is seated behind me and the first part of our our live program was about the kaleidoscope that life has been especially in the last few months and this is about the battles that we fight so you'll hear a battle from the 1500s you'll hear the progression of students through school and their changes that they go through and the way they develop and then we'll end with a really big battle until the scars which is about trojan horses and by the great john mackey and i think you'll enjoy the whole thing i hope so there won't be much talking in between but here we go with the tlu win ensemble thanks for being with us tonight you guys and also at the end i'll just say have
