hey is Cory from Wolf Pack woodcraft in today's video we're gonna be talking about the keys titanium canteen now I'm gonna be comparing it with the Pathfinder stainless steel canteen and so you can kind of get an idea of the pros and the cons of each the biggest question I had with the keys titanium is how it compared with the heavy cover by Keith's now the heavy cover is a much more popular titanium canteen and so I contacted Keith I emailed them and I asked them what the big difference was and they said that they are identical they are exactly the same and so I am going to leave links to both of these canteens in the description box down below but I'm also going to leave a link to the heavy cover website because I know that that's the more popular option and so just know that the Amazon links do help the channel that heavy cover link I'm putting down there just for you guys I don't have any affiliation or anything to do with heavy cover so I just wanted to let you guys know that before I continued on the big difference between these two the keys and the Pathfinder is the price so the thing that's going to make a lot of you turn this video off is knowing that this piece titanium canteen costs $100 more than the Pathfinder and so the titanium is antimicrobial it does have a lot of advantages over stainless steel weight being the biggest one but it is $100 more I joke around with Caroline saying that that hundred dollar difference is just so people take it serious one of the biggest things for me is if you handed me this and I didn't know what it was I would assume that this was a toy I would never think about bringing this into the woods but for that extra hundred dollars it better perform and it does it performs very well but if you don't know what this is and someone just handed it to you it feels so light and chintzy and thin compared to the stainless steel and it's not it's just as durable it holds up just as well it does everything this system can do when it's way lighter so let's talk about the system's separately here the keith's comes with a carry case it's Molly compatible that comes with a canteen the canteen is thirty seven point two ounces the lid is titanium and it comes with a little d-ring on top of this lid it comes with a lid so the bank has a little pouch up here for the lid and then it comes with a cup and the cup is twenty three point six ounces and sword it's got butterfly style handles the lid fits on it very well the lid also has this very large rectangular loop on top now it's not really 2d shape for a d-ring but it is rectangular and I like that a lot because I can get a fork in there really easy to lift my lid to see if my water's boiling now you can get sticks and other things in there but it's very large and I like how big that is and that's it that's all you get in the keys titanium setup the Pathfinder system comes with a bag as well that's Molly compatible this one has pockets on the sides for water purification or whatever you want to put in there it does not have a spot for the lid though it comes with a canteen with a bakelite lid the mouth on the Pathfinder stainless steel is much bigger than the Keith's and so I have a life straw here if I take the and I open the bottom and I put it alongside this drop there's plenty of room in there for this life straw with the Keith's if I take the bottom lid and I put it on the side it will not fit inside the keith's and so you kind of you can get it in there but you kind of gotta wiggle it around a little I mean it goes in there easy but you just have to kind of angle it at first and so just know that the lid the mouth on the stainless steel is bigger than the titanium set these on there for now so this comes with a cup and a lid the cup is 25 ounces so slightly bigger than the titanium it has this little third leg handle I don't know what they're called but that's what I call it this one does have a little bit more features than this one I have a video where I talk all about this canteen if you wanted to know all the features work it has a lid with a small d-ring I can't fit my fork in there I have to use the handle to my fork and so sometimes it'll angle and slide around it has holes in the lid for straining or pouring and that fits on there very well and then it has a little wood burning stove that comes with it as well and so it's a nice little backup so the if you run out of fuel you can start a little fire and have a little wood burning back up so that's nice as well so that's everything you get in the Pathfinder so as you can see there's more features with the Pathfinder another feature that I left out because there's no measurement markings on the titanium all it says is 23.6 ounces on the front and the Pathfinder has measurement markings on the inside so 16 20 and 25 ounces and then it has milliliters as well and so there's way more features to the Pathfinder it has the wider mouth that's something that you would like it has the wood-burning stove so you get more with the Pathfinder it's $100 less it's easier to fit things into the canteen and so you would think that this was a better system you would think that this is hands-down the best but then the titanium comes in and it's a titanium is antimicrobial it doesn't rust as easily or at all it's it's easier to maintain and theory than the stainless steel it's easier to take care of now it's gonna be more like aluminum then steal the biggest hugest advantage to this titanium is the weight the weight is insane this system without the wood-burning stove just the cup the lid in the canteen comes in at one pound six ounces and the titanium system comes in at like 10 point something else's so if you compare that that is a huge weight savings this canteen the stainless steel canteen is 11 ounces and so the canteen the cup and the lid on the titanium is still lighter than just the canteen on the path back and so it is a tremendous weight savings but you have to ask yourself is it $100 weight savings are you going to spend $100 more to save that weight yes it is antimicrobial and it does have other advantages but again I don't think that it's a huge advantage it's not a lot better than the stainless steel I've had the stainless steel system for a really long time and it still looks brand new the only real wear on it is from the stole from opening and closing a lid over it so there's a little there's a couple of scratches here but other than that it looks brand new it's easy to take care of I don't think that it's easier taking care of the titanium than Pathfinder I don't think that it's the water tastes the same in my opinion I do drink river water so I do get a little bit of that River taste but they taste the same in my opinion it's the the biggest advantage the thing that's really stands out between the two is the weight and the extra features and so are you really you really got to ask yourself what matters most do you want to save the money this is a great option do you want the measurement markings and the strainer the hole in the lid and all the extras the wood-burning stove that come with the Pathfinder and spend less but carry the extra weight this is the option I would choose for you but if you really are pinching grams you really need to find places to save weight that's when I would pick the keys I think that most of you watching this video are probably gonna get the Pathfinder I think that if I had to choose if I had to go back and I had to pick one I think I'd save the money and get the the stainless steel you don't necessarily need the Pathfinder version but I would get the stainless steel and saved $100 yeah I only do this for you guys I do this so that I can compare this stuff save you guys the money and I think that that's an option that you guys are most likely pick but I want to know from you which one of these systems do you think is the best and why leave that in the comment section down below and then make sure to check out my next video we should be popping up right here
