hey everybody what's going on and welcome to another video and as always before we get started today just like take a quick moment to welcome all my new subscribers and to thank everybody who's leaving me comments and messages down below thank you guys i really appreciate it and wow you know when i did that poll between which ship i would cover next britannica or estonia i really thought it'd be a little bit more of a neck and neck race to like because i mean based on my live chats and my comments it seemed like just as many people were interested in britannica as they were estonia but man britannic won by a landslide so alright guys britannic will be the next ship that i cover now i don't think it'll be the next video on this channel but i will try to get to that video sometime within the next week or two so just keep your eye out for that and i will make an announcement when i start working on it so all right well that's that okay and as always please if you're new here please subscribe to my channel and if you haven't already please give my video a like thanks guys it really really helps out a lot and if you would like to take an extra step to help the historic travels channel grow a little bit more i did set up a patreon there is a link for that in the description below as well alright guys well hey without any further ado let's get into today's topic as we all know on the night of april the 14th 1912 rms titanic struck an iceberg on the starboard side below the waterline and slowly began to sink however even though the titanic had been mortally wounded by the iceberg during the initial part of the sinking the titanic was holding up very well considering how much damage the iceberg had given off it was actually holding up so well that the passengers on board the ship didn't even know the titanic was in trouble for quite some time after the collision however all that changed during the last 10 to 15 minutes of the titanic's life you see at this point the ship was beginning to rapidly drop in the water and all order that was on board the ship was beginning to break down as people were scrambling to try to find a way to save themselves so what we're going to be doing in this video is we're going to be taking an in-depth look at the last 10 to 15 minutes of the titanic's life basically covering the point from right when the bridge begins to go under to the final plunge of the stern we're going to be taking an in-depth look at this timeline of events talking about some of the incredible survival stories as well as covering what the ship was doing in these final minutes of the titanic's life now one thing that i do want to point out here each event that i talk about in this timeline i'm not going to go into super detail about just simply because i don't have time you know if i try to explain in depth every single event that is happening over this 10 15 minute period because a lot does happen then this video would be an hour and a half long and we don't have time for that most of my other videos cover in depth a series these series of events in more detail if you want to learn more about them so i'm going to proceed with this video under the pretense that you already know most of what i'm talking about i'm just putting all the events together in one timeline okay so now that we've got that out of the way let's begin the video it is around 2 10 am on board the rms titanic all of the titanic's major lifeboats have been launched and two out of the four of the titans collapsible lifeboats have also been launched with only the collapsible lifeboats a and b still remaining onboard the titanic at this point the titanic's officers and some of the passengers are hard at work trying to get these last two lifeboats prepped and ready to be launched on the starboard side of the titanic the officers with help from some of the passengers were able to get classical a from the roof of the officer's quarters down to the main boat deck at this point the crew was frantically trying to get this lifeboat prepped and ready for launch as the ship's final plunge was beginning however the crew didn't have as much luck on the titanic's port side you see during the final stages of the sinking the titanic had begun to develop a very sharp list to port which means the titanic was leaning heavier on the port side than on the starboard so because of this port list when the officers on the port side tried to push collapsible b off of the roof of the officer's quarters ended up flipping and falling over upside down making it impossible to properly prep and launch this light boat now right around the time collapsible b was pushed from the roof of the officer's quarters down to the main deck titanic's two wireless operators jack phillips and harold bribe did come out of their cabin and came up onto the main deck however in all the chaos and everything that was going on they ended up getting separated from each other so harold bride went to try to help get classical b off of the roof of the officers quarters down to the main deck in the process when the boat fell and flipped upside down it ended up pinning harold bride to the main boat deck and he was trapped underneath the upside down light boat and he was stuck there until the titanic literally sank out from underneath him and the lifeboat floated off and believe it or not he would end up surviving the evening he just swam out from underneath and climbed on top of the lifeboat very crazy survival story if you ask me now while all this was going on at the exact same time the titanic's bridge was beginning to rapidly sink and this is also the point where the last known position of titanic's designer thomas andrews and titan's captain captain smith were reported thomas andrews and captain smith were last seen on one of titanic's bridge wings and it was overheard that either smith or andrews were communicating with each other and one of them said there's no use in waiting any longer she's going it's time to go so both thomas andrews and captain smith were last seen jumping over the bridge railing of the titanic into the sea and this was the last time both men would ever be seen alive once the titanic's bridge went underwater the sinking only began to accelerate even further because most of the ship is already gone at this point so clasp will be on the titanic's port side where it was just flipped upside down and just sitting on the deck it began to float away on its own and the people surrounding this light boat just began to climb on top of it and try to escape the ship that way however on the titanic starboard side clasp a you see due to the list the titanic had to pour that side was a little bit higher out of the water than on the port side so basically what that meant was the officers on the starboard side thought they had more time to prep and launch this lifeboat so they were basically surprised by the rapid sinking so they had begun to try to prep this light boat and try to launch it over the side of the ship just like all the other lifeboats so because of that this light bulb was actually tied to the ship and it was getting fully loaded with people so that meant as the titanic began to rapidly sink and drop this light boat ran the risk now of being dragged underwater with the ship taking the people who were on board the ship on board the light boat with them now due to the quick actions of the ship's officers and with the help of some of the passengers they were able to cut classical a free from the titanic and get it buoyant again however when they did the lifeboat had been dragged so far underwater that its semi flipped when it suddenly shot up and became buoyant throwing its occupants into the sea but this lightbulb was free now and it was slowly escaping the doomed ship now while all this drama was going on with the last two lifeboats still on the titanic this would have also been the time that the band was playing near my god 2d and they would be concluding very shortly but you see the water was now reaching the base of titanic's first funnel and we all know what that means the first funnel is about to collapse so at this point the ship's sinking which is already going fast but when the first funnel falls it creates another massive opening within the ship so that means that the titanic sinking is only going to accelerate and things are only going to get more chaotic from this point forward and not only that but when the titanic's first funnel came down it ended up missing collapsible b the overturned light boat by just mere inches and the wave created by the first funnel hitting the water pushed collapsible a and b away from the doomed ship however now the titanic was sinking even faster and the grand staircase dome which is housed in between the first and second funnel was also now about to submerge archibald gracie was on board the titanic that night he was standing in between the first and second funnel and he said after the first funnel went down a giant wave came over the ship so he grabbed onto a ship's railing to keep from being washed overboard but what he didn't realize was this wasn't a wave this was the ship making a giant plunge so he's hanging onto this railing under the water and he's essentially standing on top of the grand staircase dome and he said that he felt this huge suction pulling him down after where he was submerged so what that means archibald gracie is probably the only living witness that can testify that the grand staircase dome imploded and flooded like we see in the james cameron movie his position on the wreck and due to the fact that he felt a massive suction is a very strong possibility of the grand staircase dome flooded in the manor we see in the james cameron film when the grand staircase dome imploded and flooded the titanic's bow was completely underwater at this point and water was now reaching the base of the second funnel now jack thayer another titanic survivor said that when the second funnel began to fall he saw it erupt in a shower of sparks and fire and then fall over so that means that there was some kind of a small detonation so to speak when the second funnel began to fall now whether or not that contributed to the falling of the second funnel what exactly caused that sparker ignition we'll never know i've heard theories it could have been a boiler inside the ship i've heard theories it could be coal dust igniting we'll never know now once the second funnel began to fall the titanic stern which was now at us for for a good chunk of the sinking staying relatively low in the water and she was still very low considering how much of the ship was already underwater at this point the stern was beginning to rapidly climb up out of the water and the reason she didn't climb up so quickly as in climb earlier was due to the fact that the center of mass of the ship was around where the giant engines are inside the ship located behind the third funnel these engines were so heavy and they were also acting as a counterbalance so to speak keeping the stern relatively level in the water even with the complete loss of buoyancy in the titanic spouse section but you see even with this titanic center of mass being where the engines are with that much buoyancy gone essentially the whole front half of the ship or more than half of the ship at this point the stern was now going to begin to rapidly climb out of the water and for the unlucky souls that are still clinging to the titanic stern trying to stay out of the water they were about to experience and witness a new level of horror that none of them have ever seen or experienced before for anyone still in the titanic at this late stage in the sinking their thoughts would most likely be i need to get as far aft as possible meaning get this get as close to the back of the ship as i possibly can which means everybody would be running uphill towards the back of the titanic as the stern is climbing higher and higher out of the water but now what you got to remember that wouldn't be so easy and it wouldn't be easy for two reasons number one it's due to the increasingly harsh angle that the stern is getting whereas it's climbing higher and higher out of the water and number two remember that the titanic was class segregated so that meant that depending on what deck you were on it wasn't always simple to move from one deck down to another deck now in some places they had ladders you could climb to move from one deck to another but imagine crowds of people conjugating around one of these ladders trying to climb down it and at the same time the angle which the ship is at is getting higher and higher out of the water so you quickly got these massive clumps of people all basically stuck unable to proceed any further all the while the ship's the ship is sinking faster and faster and the stern is climbing higher and higher out of the water the last sinking animation that titanic honor and glory team did really showcases what i was just talking about very well you can see these massive conjugations of people all crowding around these these railings and bulkheads trying to move to the back sections of the ship but depending on where they are they can't really proceed anymore this animation really showcases the absolute nightmare that these people would have been experiencing in the titanic's final moments now those people who were still clinging to the titanic many of them were wearing or most of them were wearing life jackets and many people at this point thought that they were probably better off to jump rather than ride the titanic down however if you were wearing a life jacket jumping from the titanic especially if you were near the stern would be most likely one of the worst things you could possibly do you see depending on how high you jump from when you hit water water isn't always a soft way to make a landing if you jump from a certain altitude and you hit the water it's essentially like hitting concrete you know water doesn't always make a soft landing and it's worse if you're wearing a life jacket because you see life jackets don't want to go underwater they want to stay above water so that means that if you were standing at the back of titanic especially right at the stern and the angle was getting higher and higher on the water and you jump as soon as you hit the water your body wants to go down but the life jacket doesn't it wants to stay up so that means that when you hit the water it would be almost just like hitting land and it'd be even worse if you landed feet first your life jacket could shoot up with such force that i mean i'm not trying to be gross here but it could literally just break your neck upon making contact with the water if you land feet first so honestly if you jump into if you jump off of the titanic wearing a life jacket depending on how you hit the water honestly you'd be better off jumping from the ship without a life jacket on and then put one on after you made contact with the water if that was even possible as the titanic stern continued to climb higher and higher out of the water with her lights still burning survivors said they heard a loud bang come from deep within the ship then right after this bang was heard the titanic split right down the middle and the stern fell back level while the bow section began to rapidly sink the titanic broke in half just in front of the third funnel and once she did the titanic's main power system did go out however an emergency generator did kick in keeping a few lights on here and there post breakup now this is where the story of the titanix final plunge gets a little funny you see there's a lot of debate in the titanic community as to what exactly the stern did in the titanic's final moment most people nowadays don't believe that it went completely vertical like we see in the james cameron movie where it just kind of went completely upright and just kind of bob there like a cork for a little while you see what i think happened and this is just a guess based on testimony and what i've read in my own research i think the titanic broke up just like we see in that animation i think the story went back love and i think the emergency light stayed on bc i think it was a little bit of a combination of a sideways sinking and going vertical so what i think happened was the titanic broke in half and then the stern settled back and then as her final plunge began i think she rolled over onto her side and you see there was another survivor named charles yalkin and he testified that he actually climbed over a railing and was walking on the hall of the ship during the final plunge so i think the ship rolled over onto its side and then right before the stern disappeared the titanic panned upward went vertical and then went down that's my theory based on what i've read and testimony and everything i think that that is most likely what happened during titanic's final moments i'm going to try to recreate what i think happened in titanic's final moments using two different animations by titanic honor and glory so i think it's possible that the stern went sideways just like we see here in this clip however i think the final plunge is more accurate with their original syncing animation from 2016. i think this showcases the stern going vertical a little bit more accurately and this is closer to my opinion based on survivor testimony what the titanic did in its final moments now you see during the titanic's final plunge this is about the time that most people think that the emergency lights on the ship finally went out so think about that for a minute the power on the titanic stayed on until right up to the point that the stern was about to dip beneath the surface that is unbelievable to me and even now that i've stayed for so long i still don't completely understand how that happened i understand how steam works and everything but i just think it's incredible that the emergency lights on the ship stayed on as long as they did and then yeah the stern went vertical and then she just slowly at this point slipped beneath the surface and anybody who was still on board the titanic at this point was sent into the freezing cold atlantic sea 1500 people went into the sea when titanic sank out from underneath them anyway guys that's it for this video thank you all so much for watching and i know i didn't cover everything that happened in the final 10 minutes or so of the titanic's life but if i did i would go insane i already had to cut a lot of content just because this video was getting to be so long and i was trying to keep it as short as possible i could make a two hour film covering every single detail of events that happened in the last 10 to 15 minutes of the titanic's life but i hope this gave you a pretty good general overview of the final series of events that happened on this ship that we all know and love all right guys well hey thank you so much for watching and if you're new here please subscribe to my channel and also if you wouldn't care please give my video a like thank you guys i really appreciate it and it really really helps out a lot and any video ideas or anything you all want to say down below in the comment section any thoughts on this video please let me know down below i love reading the comments okay guys well hey thank you all so much for watching i will see you in the next one and be safe out there have a good day
