Tips for affordable travel

I am so very happy to report it's almost time for summer travel season plain ticket prices are 20% higher though than last year so we've got the fix with our new series bucket list on a budget where we plan trips to spectacular spots with tips to help you say big every step of the way I love this and here to help is the Points Guy Nikki Kelvin in the house hi hello I love what you do and it's it is that time of year everybody loves a good getaway and it is very expensive so we've got some great tips here from you thank you um let's talk flights first Where Do We Begin to find the best deals okay I absolutely love Google flights it's such a simple platform keep seeing that like little tricks on like Instagram hey click here then click here and it's not it's quite an easy one to do so you go on there but the great thing about Google flx is you can search multiple destinations at the same time so what you're going to do is got a little visual representation we're starting in Boston and click on the on the map function and you able to see all the different prices for all different destinations in the US but also further a field look at that the whole world so you're able to get an idea best deal and the best prices so Google is they're they're going in and using an algorithm to get to co down to the best price so if you're open-minded and you look at a map and go W you know what Bora Bora 1400 you you can possibly get the best deal that way flexibility is going to be your key to a cheap summer deal and this is your tool to be flexible Okay Google flights it is everybody write that down and what about loyalty programs I I mean they can really save you a lot of money if you know how to use them they really can but just as a starter if you're not doing loyalty programs just do them they're free to sign up so whenever you stay in a hotel fly or whenever you get a Car Hire sign up to the program it's free you'll earn the points in the background now the really great thing is some of these programs they give you things for free just for signing up so Hyatt in some properties they'll give you free breakfast just by signing up you don't even need status every time you go it it's only in certain High properties but but always ask Thrifty doll rental cars you have to for extra driver if you sign up to their prams they'll give you the additional driver for free for your spouse or your domestic partner that's great and Airlines earn the points even if you don't think you'll earn loads of points enough for a free flight Airlines like Jet Blue their loyalty programs will allow you just to reduce the price of your next ticket so you can just save money so don't leave those points on the table because those points mean money I think some people and I'm myself included get nervous about signing up for all of these loyal programs cuz there must be a catch you're saying really they just want they want your business the catch is if you don't do it then you're losing out all right I love it um travel credit cards okay so at the point guy we love a travel credit card and there's two big reasons here first of all these travel reward cards are going to give you protections insurance so if your trip gets cancelled if you lose your baggage all these different travel protections summer travel can be crazy so sometimes you're going to need those but also earning points and so we've got some of our best ones out there at the points guys our best all round travel Rewards Card we're saying that's the Capital One Venture rewards we love it cuz there's a 75,000 Point sign up bonus and that's going to be worth over $1,300 if you use it properly so that's a really good one if you want to earn the most miles we've got the Chase Sapphire preferred we love that because it's got multiples on earning in certain categories like travel when you spend on travel you earn loads of points and finally this is a really cool one a no fee card not everyone wants to pay the annual fee and we love the built Master Card card because on this one you can pay your rent with it um it's the only card you can pay your rent with so you can earn points you know rents are high at the moment so you can be earning while you're doing yeah that's really really great um the I think the credit cards are again an area that make people nervous but but you say if do your homework you can get some great deals you have to do your homework you have to find the right thing for you but if you find it it can really elevate your travel I'm glad we're talking about this next topic so you're going out of the country you want of course be able to have cell phone access but it can be sneaky expensive you've got some tips to save money there $10 $15 a day for your whole family each it can really rack up so we love eims so what you do is you load it onto your phone AO true phone gig Sky there are some different options you can use AO is the one I'm using at the moment and it means you load an eim for a certain country and you can pay as little as $9 for a full week of full access I'm going to South Korea later tonight and I've paid $30 for a full 10 days unlimited day I'm going to save hundreds okay we're going to put that on our website cuz that's I think a really good little uh hack um okay so we are going to do this thing here at GMA um we're calling it our best bucket list trip and our own Ashen Singh is going to take the first trip I'm very jealous come on out Ashen and Ray all right so you guys are going to hopefully use all of these
