[Music] yeah dark already well at this time of the year of course in britain it gets dark really quite early as you can see so it's very often my habits probably yours as well to go and have a nap in the afternoon and that that means lying down on a pillow or cushion and i thought i'd bring my collection of cushions and pillows with me to show you some of them they're all a bit bizarre some of them this one for this is the earliest one i ever picked up oh back in my childhood i think it's the old yes the old whoopee cushion extraordinary you put this under an ordinary cushion so the guest doesn't know it's there when you're assisting it make that wonderful wonderful breaking wind noise we call it actually the very earliest ones you had to blow up each time you did it this one's got a little foam rubber in it so as you push it it automatically fills up with air due to the foam rubber very clever idea so the foam rubber cushion oh well here's an extraordinary japanese cushion which came out in 1977 i've got two of them actually to show you incredible idea this i've never seen it before or since so this one's got a bit dilapidated so i to just blow it up first that's sort of about there you put it on a chair facing forward like that and then when you sit in it what happens oh my goodness me oh my goodness me hands come out what an extraordinary idea like that amazing that's a japanese for you completely original never seen it before or since wonderful a nice idea here was which is used really it's a kind of cushion substitute when you're lying on the beach having a nice sunbathe on the sand you don't want your head down on something like an ordinary cushion it'll get too hot so this thing is a beautiful idea it just opens up like a little chair like that complete with some birds here's head up chair and then you lie down like that and put your head down and that's really very comfortable and of course you get some sea breeze going underneath it which keeps this base here nice and cool so it's a level very very clever idea for a cushioned substitute when you're having a sunbathe i've used this several times myself in the garden it's much more comfortable than lying on a proper cushion here's a nice little idea for a question it's a little round one you put on the stool when you're having breakfast i suppose it is and just to remind you what you're having for breakfast you turn it the other way up oh yes bacon and egg oh and chips and peas that's nice isn't it wow what a nice idea for a cushion very sweet if you're a golfer you might care to think about crushing a cushion like this it's a it's a golf ball in what looks like grass it's a kind of batting but the idea is i think if you've had a very hard tour of the golf course with 18 holes and you're quite weird you want to lie down have a relaxation there's a cushion to put your head down on and remind you what you've been doing having a quick having a seat then there's a lovely idea called a money pillow which the americans make i think when they're there their bank notes are of withdrawn because they're getting too tatted they don't burn them as we do but they just they they pulverize and they shred them so here's i think they said a thousand dollars wow imagine having that and lying down and dreaming of being a millionaire with your head lying on a thousand dollars that's something isn't it it's actually very comfortable too it's got a nice nice feel to it here's one which i have to admit it's not actually part of my collection this is it's a present for one of my nieces but the idea is a beautiful one it's a very very pleasing little thing if you turn it on the switch just here look at that isn't that beautiful lovely and a very comfortable cushion but with leds so many things didn't have leds in it but that's a particularly tasteful one i always like looking inside these things so open up but you've got to do this anyway to get at the batteries which is here and there's the led rose a little array what a lovely idea that isn't it so i hope she's getting pleased with that his extraordinary cushion i've used this actually many times the only question i really have used because it's a vibration cushion it's got a battery inside it's all two large d batteries and when you assist in it that noise and i can feel it vibration too it's very good for muscles for spasms and for getting the circulation going lovely big eccentric motor and very powerful batteries so a vibrating question which came out in the trade fairs about 30 years ago or more i love it here's a well it's not a question but it's an idea for a cushion it's a heavy piece of rock except that it's not of course it's a bit of a japanese thing this foam rubber covered with an extraordinary subtle cover to make it look all mottled as if it's a bit of granite i quite like the idea if anyone's into design of having this enlarged to the size of a cushion and putting this large rock in a comfortable looking chair and inviting the guests to relax and sit back and enjoy themselves of course they think they're sitting on a very hard rock they're not it's a cushion nice one nice one and to go back to the beginning or but to go forward as well in time we have this version of the whoopee cushion but it's electronic what extraordinary idea look at this it's got a little testing site let's have a go oh yes that's a nice noise another one oh my goodness me and there's little delays 20 seconds 80 seconds 120 seconds so you can put it on the guest chair just as they're about to walk in the room put it down for two minutes and two minutes later there's that awful noise oh my goodness me embarrassment embarrassment so from there to there is about 50 years of um evolution i suppose you could call it some people call it progress i call it fun [Music]
