Text: This Week at Justice
June 23, 2023 Attorney General Garland: We are targeting every step of
the movement, manufacturing, and sale of fentanyl – from start to finish. To that end, we are announcing several enforcement
actions the Justice Department has taken to disrupt the flow of fentanyl precursor chemicals
from China to Mexico and the United States. Deputy Attorney General Monaco: For the first time we are charging Chinese
chemical companies, and their employees, for conspiring to manufacture and export fentanyl
precursor chemicals and circumvent customs laws. Administrator Milgram: The two drug cartels that are responsible
for the influx of fentanyl into the United States, the Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels, work
with chemical companies based in the People's Republic of China
to get their raw materials. Attorney General Garland: All of us at the Justice Department, and
especially the agents and professionals of ATF, recognize that our work together in the fight against gun violence has never
been more urgent than it is now. Director Dettelbach: The Attorney General's comprehensive strategy
to fight violent crime places our work – ATF’s expertise - in crime gun intelligence at the
forefront of some of these efforts to protect Americans. Because he knows the importance of
using intelligence to develop actionable leads. Attorney General Garland: The message from the countries represented here
today to cybercriminals and drug criminals should be clear: you can try to hide, but, together,
we will shut down your illegal enterprises. Assistant Attorney General Olsen: The new section will allow NSD to increase the
scale and speed of our disruption campaigns and prosecutions of nation-state cyber threats,
as well as state-sponsored cybercriminals, money launderers often associated with them, and
other cyber-enabled threats to national security. Assistant Attorney General Kanter: The time is indeed ripe for
us to re-examine how we assess bank mergers under the statutory
framework that Congress has enacted. The Department of Justice and the banking agencies
issued the current Bank Merger Guidelines in 1995. Text: Announcements of arrests, indictments, criminal complaints, charges or similar which may be described in this video are merely accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Licensed Music: ”Light Tension” by Daniel Burrows, Daniel William David Mallender, and Thomas Richard Hill
