Text: This Week at Justice
March 29, 2024 John Keller: Debate on public issues should be robust
and may well include vehement, caustic, and sometimes unpleasantly sharp attacks on
government officials. But death threats are not debate. Death threats do not contribute
to the marketplace of ideas. Death threats are not first amendment protected speech.
Death threats and any threats of violence are condemnable criminal acts and they will be met
with the full force of the Department of Justice. AG Garland: If you threaten violence against the public servants
who administer our elections, there will be consequences. The right to vote, which is the cornerstone of our democracy,
relies on the ability of election workers and election officials to perform their duties
without fearing for their lives. The Justice Department will continue to aggressively investigate
and prosecute those who threaten these public servants. PDAAG Argentieri: Pursuing human smugglers who endanger migrants
and place their lives in jeopardy is a top priority for the Criminal Division,
wherever those smugglers may operate. AG Garland: There are serious consequences for
defrauding customers and investors. Anyone who believes they can hide their financial
crimes behind wealth and power, or behind a shiny new thing they claim no one else
is smart enough to understand, should think twice. I am grateful to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the
Southern District of New York and the FBI for their outstanding work in bringing
Mr. Bankman-Fried to justice. AG Garland: The Justice Department will not tolerate efforts by
the Chinese government to intimidate Americans who serve the public, silence the dissidents who are protected by
American laws, or steal from American businesses. This case serves as a reminder of the ends to which
the Chinese government is willing to go to target and intimidate its critics, including
launching malicious cyber operations aimed at threatening the national security of
the United States and our allies. DAG Monaco: Stopping the trafficking of high-caliber and
military grade firearms to Mexico is a top priority for the Justice Department —
and especially the ATF agents and Department prosecutors that
lead Operation Southbound. Working with our Mexican partners, we will disrupt
and dismantle the drug cartels responsible for so much destruction in both nations, and as
demonstrated by these charges, we will bring to justice the alleged firearms traffickers
who would arm those cartels. Acting ASG Mizer: The Collaborative Reform Initiative is an
important vehicle for law enforcement agencies that want to improve how they operate and how
they work with their communities. The Organizational Assessment process is the most intensive
form of review and support we offer under this program, and credit goes to the North Miami Police Department
for requesting this assistance. Text: Announcements of arrests, indictments, criminal complaints, charges
or similar which may be described in this video are merely accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Licensed Music: "Tension News Waiting” by Louis Perez
