so there you are looking in the mirror want to look good styling your hair going for a particular hairstyle now you know what hairstyle you're going for what you want your hair to look like perhaps you're shooting for a classic pompadour or maybe the slickback look is your thing or don't tell me you're the classic side part kind of guy maybe a crew cut or a quiff perhaps a textured top or a faux hawk that being said the path to your coveted style can be a bit confusing when there are tons I mean literally hundreds of hair products on the market today and let's not even get into all the different types of hair brushes and how they style your hair differently so first up let's cover the different hair products now some of you guys may be thinking I've been using the same product for years I don't need a new one and others may be saying well I've never used a hair product why would I start well the reality is you don't have to use any hair product but if you want certain hairstyles and you want them to last you want them to stick around throughout the day and you want them to look good you do want to find the right product for that hairstyle now when choosing a hair product there are six factors you want to look at first up hold next up shine then you want to find a product that is going to work with your hair type three other factors that I know for me per personally are a little bit less important are the ease of clean its ability to be reshaped throughout the day and how does it hold up to heat now there are certain hair products that work better for different hairstyles and I'll talk about that a little bit later in the video but first up when you're selecting the right hair product for you you want to First up look at hold and most hair products are going to have this listed as to whether or not they've got a medium they've got a high or they've got a low hold next up you want to look at shine and this is basically going to be is light reflecting off so there's going to be high shine low shine and there's going to be a matte finish basically no shine next up you've got ease of cleaning is this going to easily wash out of your hair if it is easy it should rinse out with just water if it's going to be a little bit more difficult you're going to have to use shampoo to get the product out next up the ability to reform this is you know if an hour or two later you wanted to reshape your hair you could unless it has no ability to reform and then it's just simply going to break the hold and uh yeah you're going to be like you don't have any product in your hair next up some hair products say they work better with different types of hair now this isn't consistent across Brown Brands and you really have to just take it with a grain of salt because I know people that say hey they just love putting a mousse in straight hair and it works for them and finally how does the product react to heat I'll tell you the vast majority of products out there work perfectly fine with blow dryers gel is maybe the only one that really doesn't have you know any effect and so uh yeah if you're going to be using a blow dryer probably not best to use gel and speaking of blow dryers I know the majority of men out there don't use one on a daily basis but here's the thing they're not just for drying your hair fast if you want your hair to have more volume if you want to style it in a way that it's going to go in a direction and stay there all day guys you need to be looking at a good hair dryer now gents if you're in the market for a web for the lay fit Swift hair dryer now when it comes to hair products hold and shine I know some of you guys want this really simple so I've created this chart right here now again this chart does have its limitations because there aren't standards across the industry so different brands when they make a wax or if they make a paste it may have different levels of hold and shine but in general this chart should hold up that being said I do want to talk about some of the most common products out there and their properties now first up we've got paste now the hold here is going to be medium it's going to provide a good amount of hold and flexibility now the shine is going to be relatively low so you can get a more natural look with it one of my favorite Parts about paste easy to clean so you can simply rinse your hair with water and it should come out another great thing about paste is it's relatively easy to reform so you could run some water through your hands run it through your hair and you should be able to reform even into a different hairstyle paste works very well with a blow dryer and and the best hairstyles I find that work with paste are going to be straight and wavy hair now speaking of the different hair types there are four main types there's going to be straight hair there's going to be wavy hair curly hair and finally coily hair and to keep it simple they're often called type 1 type 2 type 3 and type four but where it gets complicated except with straight hair we've actually got three types of each so when it comes to wavy hair we've got 2A 2B and 2C next up with curly hair we've got 3A 3B and 3C and finally with coily hair we've got 4A 4B and 4C next up we've got putties Clays and muds and I'm going to group these together because they are very similar in performance so first up all three are going to have a strong hole I personally like these and I use them a lot in my hair because I just simply like the way they keep the hairstyle all day another thing I love about all three of these is that they usually have a matte or a low shine finisher again it really depends on the brand I also love how all three of these wash out easily The Only Exception I've had some companies their clay takes a little bit of shampoo to get out I also love their ability to reform throughout the day Clay is really good about this you should be able to four or five hours later be able to restyle the hair the other two do a good job as well all of these work well hold the style when you're using them with a blow dryer and they work for pretty much any pomades and waxes and both of these are going to have a high hole if you want your hair to do something and you want it to hold it pretty much all day pomades and wax are where it's at we're also going to get a lot of shine with both of these products so if you want something that looks a little bit dressier Something's Gonna Be a little bit more slick back something that's going to keep your hair down both of these products are good options now these products do work best with straight and wavy hair in addition both of them work fine with heat and finally let's talk about cleanup what's the big difference here wax is harder to get out you're definitely going to need shampoo maybe even sometimes shampoo twice to get the wax out of your hair Pomade you can rinse out some Brands other brands you will need a light shampoo so having said that you may be wondering why even go with wax well first up it's been around for thousands of years it is historically one of the oldest products that men have used in their hair on their beards it's also natural in many cases so you know a lot of people just gravitate towards something that they understand what it is and hey gets the job done and they don't mind washing their hair to get it out next up let's talk about hairspray so first up there are all different types of hairsprays out there so read the label is this a high hold or is it a medium hold there is going to be a difference is this going to be a flex or is this going to be for texture some hairsprays actually don't have that much hold they're just for adding a little bit of texture to the hair especially if you've got thinning hair hair sprays usually come out pretty easy so you can rinse them out with water that being said when it comes to reforming them most hairsprays fall flat on the face they're more like a one use but they do have in general a high hole now as a hairsprays usually form their hold once they dry it's going to be something that you want to strategically use it with a hair dryer usually after you've got the hairstyle looking in the way that you do but again if you were to run a comb through it about an hour later you're going to break up the hold and it's unless it's again a flex hairspray and even those I would rather go with a different product all that being said one of the great things about hairsprays is they work with pretty much any hairstyle now let's talk about personally my favorite product and that is going to be fiber fiber has a strong hold but it has a very low shine in fact you can find matte fibers out there that it doesn't even look like you have product in your hair yet it keeps a longer hairstyle exactly where you want it so if you want you know a pompadour if you're going for a quiff fiber is really nice I also find it's incredibly easy to reform throughout the day but you may find it's a little bit difficult to get out it's not necessarily going to rinse out with water you will have to use a light shampoo fiber also works well with heat so if you want to blow dry into a set style boom you're going to be able to do that and it works with a variety of different hairstyles pretty much all hairstyles except for coiling next up let's talk about gels so you're going to get a strong structured hold and it's going to have a high shine gels are relatively easy to rinse out of the hair but when it comes to Reformation throughout the day you're not going to be able to do that with them gels work best for straight or wavy hair and when it comes to heat this is one of the few products that really isn't enhanced whenever you use heat with it it can cause the hair to lay down next up let's talk about styling creams you're going to find the hold is relatively low they will have a medium amount of shine and they're relatively easy to wash out of the hair now their ability to reform is high and they do work well with heat you may be wondering well why do I want something with low hold because it's all about frizz if your hair goes all over the place you're going to put find putting a styling cream can make your hair look very natural without having that frizz all over the place and another great thing about styling creams is they work for pretty much any hairstyle out there now let's not forget mousse so moose usually has a low shine and it's got a low hole it's really easy to rinse out of the hair and throughout the day you can actually reform the style it works well with the heat and similar to a styling cream it does reduce frizz but one of the big advantages of a mousse is it's going to be something that you can basically work through the hair and it will protect the hair so if you've got coily hair mousse is going to be a great product for use in your hair now let's talk about all the different hairstyles and what products you would want to use to get that particular look first up we've got the classic pompadour comes in a variety of different styles here but I'm going to recommend a Pomade a wax a fiber or a styling cream now obviously if you want to pompadour with a bit of shine you're going to go with the products to have the shine next up we've got the quiff now of course it comes in a variety of different styles different lengths but I'm going to recommend paste clay or mousse now of course you can use some of the other products you used in the pompadour such as the Pomade such as the wax but right here I'm kind of where I'm leaning towards is for you to experiment with different products seriously gents it's such an easy way to change up the look of your hairstyle now if you've got a shorter hairstyle like a crew cut definitely check out paste wax or Fiber by using these products you're going to give your crew cut a natural structured look and again you can use something with a bit higher shine there's a variety of other products you of course try now what if you're going going for that slick back Wall Street type of look there well for this look my first choice is going to be a Pomade you could also try a gel you could go with a wax and if you want something with a little bit less shine maybe try a mud a clay or a putty now what about the classic side part again it depends on the length and how much shine how much hold you're going for here or you could even throw in a Pomade and try that now what about the faux hawk so here we're wanting a little bit of Spike and we definitely want a strong High hold we need shine probably not so in this case I'm going to recommend a putty clay or a fiber now what if you just got curly or wavy hair you want it to look like you almost don't have any product but you want to avoid the frizz well in this case you could maybe look at a hair serum you could look at curl defining
