This Time it's Definitive | Outward Definitive Edition: Episode 1

i like how they talk to jim like he's 19 when i'd put him at a solid 36. he's he's got to be like 34 36 years old and they're like when you're a big grown-up boy and you can head outside all right all right we are back in outward oh my god it's been a minute but we are back and we are playing outward the definitive edition the final and ultimate edition of outward so say the developers this edition includes a number of uh tweaks and changes to the game and gameplay uh that make it the best and greatest version uh that the developers have wanted to put forward these changes include adjustments to difficulty uh to make the game a bit harder in certain areas which i will uh reserve judgment on until we get there i suppose but if you're new to the channel i'm not what you would call a uh a skillful or skilled player i really play for the experience but the developers have watched uh skilled players uh kind of walk through some areas they intended to be more challenging so they have made them more challenging hopefully they don't prove impossible for me but uh we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it uh they also have increased or made some changes uh to an area that i would call experiential difficulty which is an area that i love uh to see high difficulty in games and i would say that that the difference there is uh your traditional difficulty would be things like an enemy that has a lot of health or deals a lot of damage uh or a combat mechanic that requires precision whereas experiential difficulty uh i would say is um game mechanics in the interplay of game mechanics uh that are difficult to manage um or or difficult to deal with overall what i'm thinking about specifically here is during the development of this game uh this ceo i believe uh did some live streams uh one of which they showed changes to the vendavel fortress uh now previously uh you could get kidnapped by bandits and tossed into this prison at the vendava fortress and at a certain point uh you could pretty much just cheese your way out of the fortress without really much trouble and that always was kind of disappointing and immersion breaking for me but during this live stream they showed how they've changed um some of the layout of that that prison to make sure that the ai reacts appropriately when you try to cheese things and that's a really interesting approach because their enemy ai clearly is not massively sophisticated and that's not a knock on this team it's a small team but they've done a really good job with what they have um but rather than overhauling their ai for the definitive edition they've thought carefully about uh how to lay out the prison and how to adjust some of the mechanics in the prison to make sure that you couldn't just uh you know as i said cheese your way out of it and i'm hoping they've brought that uh that approach and that mentality to other areas of the game as well and that will be seen i'm sure they have but we'll uh we'll see that as it comes up they also i believe have added new defeat scenarios uh which is something that i absolutely love about this game are the defeat scenarios rather than reloading a checkpoint if you uh quote unquote die uh you instead have a scenario play out for the character when you are defeated uh that can range from anywhere between something positive uh to something very negative and that's another type of difficulty that i really like i actually would be very tolerant of even monstrously more difficult to defeat scenarios now i know this game has a hardcore mode that includes uh an iron man-esque mode i believe where it will just delete your game if you die like an actual death i'm not necessarily looking for that type of difficulty uh i like the idea of punishing the character uh and not the person playing and you can brutally punish the character and make the player deal with that um from my perspective i'm always game for that type of thing uh that is uh pretty much the gist i think of the the major changes they've made the there's some tweaks to how armor works which should make that pretty interesting uh as it seemed there were some some pretty solid camps and concepts on on what you must and must not do with armor and it seems like they might have made other armor types more viable but i never really got uh that far enough into the game to really experience anything other than oh wow new piece of armor gonna put it on because it's new and we'll see how it works but either way uh we'll see all that as we get into the game uh if you are new to the channel uh i had an outward series on here where we took the default character from the character creation screen just without uh making any adjustments so the character was a guy named jim and we took him on an adventure into chair sneeze uh and we're gonna do that same thing if he's available um i haven't played the game yet but i messed around the tutorial a bit to make sure that everything was set up correctly uh but we experiencing this pretty much blind and uh so yeah let's dive in and see if jim is still indeed our default character we will rebirth him into and there he is yes rebirth him into chairs into outward all right jim saddle up and get ready for your adventure all my life i've lived within the safety of chierzo spared the brutality of the world outside but life in her eye is never that easy for all the safety that my tribe provides our laws are harsh we are judged not as individuals but as bloodlines the failures of my bloodline weigh heavy on me my grandmother brought ruin to our tribe long ago bringing a heavy blood price upon my family we paid the debt caused by her actions ever since i joined an expedition across the sea with my old friend yazan hoping the money made there would be enough to clear my debts this was a mistake i'm lucky to still be breathing after our ship hit the rocks on the return voyage now i have no choice but to pick myself up yet again and face the wild untamed land outside the walls i must carve out my own future or die trying all right and so it begins jim wakes up on the broken and battered dock ship torn to pieces fantastic yeah he looks a little different i feel like he looks hmm i don't know the textures look a little nicer i think there we go let's grab ourselves a torch so we don't freeze to death and get some clothes on yeah the um it looks like the textures look a little nicer i wonder if they have um what is that called uh parallax seclusion parallax mapping or something the thing that makes textures look more texturey they look a little more like bumpy i don't know well it looks nice and it seems to be running nicely too so all right we won't dilly dally too much here i think the uh the goal for today we'll see if we can get into town uh and we will we will be tasked with uh making some money so we can save our house uh so we're gonna try to get that done in this episode i think we'll see what actually unfolds in front of us and how difficult this game turns out to be um let's see our friend azan is up here uh we're not going to talk to him yet we will grab that bandage yes nice we have any berries let's grab some berries there's a couple little things to do around here there's some some hyenas to fight and i think a loot pile or two that we can see what's waiting for us all right got ourselves a weapon where's the second hyena let's get some uh berries for yeah stamina all right where's the other guy there he is all right he's far enough away we got one at a time that's perfect no don't do it they have this like counter attack sometimes oh boy sometimes they jump back sometimes they counter and that counter gets me every every single time there it is oh he didn't get me nice that's a first [Music] nice all right getting a little tired but it's okay because we win i'll take a drink too that i think that will stack our oops yeah nice and we are doubly increasing our stamina regen speed we'll take on this other hyena hopefully uh as well as we did the first one we shall see come on mr hyena nice we got the first swing there you go don't do it there oh nice he didn't get me [Music] yeah there it is got me with that one i got greedy i wanted that second swing in there nice all right good start let's see what's in the log big money no whammies more tattered attire and a silly hat we'll put on the pretty colored tatter attire look at you jim so fashionable in your rags alright what else did we pick up nothing really yeah all right put that away jim yeah this looks really nice i feel like the lighting has uh had some adjustment i don't know all right talk to us azan hopefully he'll bring us inside izan argensen jim you're alive you must be freezing come warm up by the fire before you freeze to death actually i'm overheating uh where are we zon the last thing i remember was our ship hitting a rock we're not far from home you can see the lighthouse from here can't you edo made it out too he's making his way home to chierzo to go get help edo made it out alive too thank a lot he's a kazai gym he was born on a ship this probably isn't the first time he's had to survive a shipwreck if you're still feeling too injured from the shipwreck go ahead and sleep one of the bed rolls i laid out and i'll keep watch for edo and our rescuers all right thank you sir we will indeed use our bed roll now if i recall correctly you wake up at home in your bed so i'm not worried about any of this stuff we'll sleep for a couple hours we'll do that but i don't think any of that stuff matters because we're gonna wake up at home in our bed unconsciousness comes quickly and you dream of being ensnared in something with a yelp you jump out of your bed relief floods you as you recognize where you are you're back in your old bed at home the lighthouse in chierzo yazan must have brought you back to your family's lighthouse only your aching body tells you that the shipwreck you suffered was not a nightmare okay a day has passed did it always say that does that mean a day against my um nice nice all right let's get that on let's rip that up does that mean a day has passed against my need to um pay back my debt which we will learn about in just a moment let's make some bandages what is cloth knuckles what is that what are cloth knuckles was that in the game before all right let's make them i don't know what they are i've never seen him before but uh i wanted a couple of those so we got them all right let's put on our cloth knuckles did we put them on no equip oh is it a weapon is there melee in this game now oh my god that is hilarious oh i did not know that has this always been in the game all right so without further ado let's step outside and get yelled at you're not gonna say it hi guys thanks for everybody coming out rise and shine trog spawn you think you can nip off for four months and not pay what you owe the tribe says blonde man a blood price is sacred jim you can't just shrug off that responsibility for as long as you did if i don't see the money from you by the time i count to 10 you'll regret you ever came home i just woke up from a shipwreck have a heart will you yeah you were on that ship too weren't you how many lives must your family be responsible for destroying before enough is enough i lost my daughter on that voyage this doesn't change the fact that i have no money right now and can't pay you if you can't make the payments you missed we'll seize your home and that ought to cover four months of ignoring your duty to the tribe either pay up or get out of our way lovely people uh resa chimes in enough of this 12 people are dead stop this shameful behavior at once this is a time for the tribe to come together and mourn our lost loved ones not to demand payment from a survivor to threaten someone like this while the lost lives are still fresh as an insult to their memory jim is a victim of that shipwreck too under the laws of the blue chamber collective i have declared a period of mourning you understand what that means don't you but chamber lady aberdeen jim has clearly been i said that is enough if you want to resume discussions with jim after the morning period feel free but until then your concern should be for those lives that were lost in the wreck only i'll see these people off would you you heard mother away with you or i'll personally see to it that you get double shifts of guard duty this month leave jim b all right a call to adventure has been added to the journal larissa aberdeen says i'm sorry that was the first thing you woke up to jim please forgive them many of them have lost family and are not thinking straight i can't believe they want to seize my home can't you do something if i could do more i would the most i can do for you is declare a morning period and buy you a little time if you don't pay off those four months of missed payments on your own the tribe would have my head for five days no one in the tribe can ask for what you owe that gives you five days to pay back all 150 silver coin either gather the money or earn a tribal favor and they won't be able to touch you once you can make the payment come see me up at the town hall on top of the hill please find a way to make it work jim the last thing i want to do is to take your lighthouse away all right then i'll have to head outside the walls that does seem like your most effective option dangerous as it is i doubt you'd be able to gather that much money in such a short time just by staying in chairs never forget no one has an orphan in chairs though don't hesitate to ask the rest of the tribe for survival advice though you owe us a blood price we'll still help you however we can if you can do a great deed for someone in chierzo we will owe you a tribal favor which i will accept as a substitute for your payment once you're ready to leave cheers so speak with burak the gateway you will judge whether or not you're prepared to face the outside world remember jim you only have five days to pay the 150 silver or show me proof you have earned a tribal favor may your ancestors watch over you i'm glad you survived the wreck jim and i'm sorry about your losses i know how much you were counting on this expedition oh yeah that sword glowing sword is new when did you get it roof is commissioned for me as a going away present i was gonna leave this morning to go join the holy mission of a lot before mother could stop me with shipwreck it wouldn't be right to leave i have to stay with the tribe until the morning period is over i can't imagine your mother will let you go without another lecture i know risa already promised the second she isn't drowning in important matters she and i will be having a long talk i hope she convinces you i'll miss you if you leave we'll be nice to her i know and i'll miss you and azan too but this is the path i choose to walk i'm done letting reesa decide my life i want to be part of the greater good not rule over people go on now we both have work to do for chiaroso's sake all right olel and so begins our adventure we're gonna run up here because i want to grab hopefully there still is a two-handed axe because my favorite weapon and yeah there we go is that it yeah there we go all right my favorite weapon in the other the base game i don't know what you want to call it the the original version of outward was the um brutal great acts i believe it was called so we're going to get burak to to teach us for free uh the axe uh what is it called the executioner's chop or something like that oh you know one of the other changes that they've made to the game is you can no longer leave things you can no longer leave things and i used to like to leave this initial primitive satchel here to put junk in and things when i was coming back and wanted to quickly get outside but i understand that i will not be allowed to do that anymore as after seven days uh it will uh disappear so oh well all right izan argensen jim i wish i could greet you with a smile but well we both know that won't happen a lot's breath what a disaster how are you holding up yesterday i was leading our most ambitious expedition in a decade now all that's left is this wreck and a tribe in morning i'm not holding up much better than you are how did your ship sink so close to home the lighthouse wasn't lit at the time we made impact with the rocks i'm certain i remember thinking that we should have seen it by now right before we hit the rock we lost everything below deck half the ship came apart before i was able to run aground we lost everything all the coins the spices the armor and the weapons unfortunately yes what little we could salvage from the wreck is gone to the families of my drowned men my finances are reeling from this loss i barely have to know i have barely enough left to start over still we have no right to complain all we lost was some coin in four months of time on this failed journey my sailors lost their lives of course their families need all the help they can get right now kind as ever jim even struggling with your own problems you still open your heart to those in need your parents would be proud the blood price on your head is disgusting it's unfair to hold anyone responsible for the crimes of their ancestors you weren't even born when the tragedy happened well uh i think jim welcomes a challenge yeah i welcome the challenge besides it's an excuse to get out there and find adventure more like find an early grave and lose a leg what doesn't kill you makes you stronger uh my prosthetic arm and leg are a testament to how stupid that sentiment is sorry suffering doesn't help anyone any system that forces pain upon anyone innocent has no right to exist i often wonder if we're alive because of our tribal laws or in spite of them i'm sorry i don't have better news jim well i guess it's up to us to pick up the pieces best of luck with squaring things with risa in the short term i guess i'm truly on my own then actually i do have a small stash of goods i hid in case of disaster i hit it near the old ship back to the south when you open it remember the moon commands the stars you'll know what i mean remember take care of yourself and don't be a tool for others you'll end up missing limbs like me make your own path man i wish you could end up missing limbs i would love to get a robotic arm also his arm is wooden god man let me get a robotic they usually group near training equipment others need to be sought out all right i'll let you go outside the town walls use the gate whenever you want head out stay safe out there alright goodbye sir we will not be heading out that door yeah we are going to go through that door dead ahead and head out to the beach uh and hopefully hopefully that is also not an area that they have made more difficult uh but right there and on the beach we should be able to find a tribal favor uh leather awesome yeah we'll take the hatchet because we can sell it and uh can we make anything now that we know what we can do you know maybe we'll do it while we're out too you stay very preoccupied sir uh while we're out we could go pick up yazan's treasure that he left for us god tim it's nice to be back and outward a lovely game there's something very nice about like the fast travelers like slow trek feels very immersive another axe and some healing potion that's good let's put that in our pocket let me stop and take a look at the map here i'm pretty sure we came out right here all right i think assange treasure is all the way over here we might not come out to that on this pass out i don't want in any way you want to risk losing the lighthouse so we're going to run put the lighthouse uh to bed turn in the favor get that whole quest put to bed and maybe we'll come back out and grab that treasure and fight any bandits along the way coming down here because i want to grab these eggs jim likes his eggs so far so good jim have we gotten hit yet oh boy i just cursed it we're gonna music out of the entire game it's especially nice when this like upcoming movement the like really energetic part is playing just as you're passing the conflux mountain feels very very apropos something about it feels very adventurey oh god pearl birds man the happiest moment i had playing this game was when i finally got a weapon that could one shot pearl birds oh boy was that a joy jim you just got a tribal favor in record time good on you pal [Music] theresa look at us in less than 24 hours we're a grizzled old adventurer with a with a fedora for some reason i guess that's like a boater hat i don't know jim how about your efforts well i wanted to talk about my blood price you have a way to make the payment jim show me i've earned a tribal favor and on time too i'm impressed the light go out he confessed as much to me himself interesting because he told me he didn't do it roland accepts the consequences of his action yazan refuses he has chosen to exile himself from chiaroso for forever rather than do his duty to the tribe and bear the blood price well i'm losing two friends in one day i know this can't be easy for you jim got here yeah really is all about me i am the main character after all i know this can't be easy for you jim but this is the way things have to be come back once you said your goodbyes to them once you're done we should discuss your future shield i hear it grows in blister borough northeast of chiarza you'll know what if you find it the primary characteristics are its immense size and red color bring me that mushroom and i'll pay you 70 silver for it what kind of properties does it have well that's trade secret jim maybe i'll tell you later are you interested or not sure perfect make sure you have a good weapon a lantern and plenty of supplies it's a dangerous cave and you'll be putting your life on the line don't forget the trucks have poor eyesight but fantastic hearing to get their blister burrow head out of chiarizo's main gate and follow the road left when you get to another fork in the road at a wooden gate turn left again you'll know you're only the right way if you see crude statues made by troglodytes the entrance entrance should be just ahead of you along the hillside oh i guess this on didn't tell us he's leaving yet at some point he tells us yeah it's gotta be here i take it you've heard the news jim come to see your old pal off i've got one little fishing bars to my name and buy a lot i'm gonna use it i'm leaving for the heroic kingdom of levant never to darken the stain of a city ever again the heroic kingdom doesn't buy into the idea that we should only focus on survival they believe in pushing progress to create an even better society it's a place where you can do what you were meant to do without having to answer to the oppressive tribal laws and the misdeeds of your ancestors you succeed or fail on your own merits and no one else's why so far away well levant believes that everyone deserves a shot at what they're best at and doesn't have these backwards tribal laws to deal with it's the rational place for a fresh start and honestly the farther away i am from the my adult of a brother and that tyrant risa the better i'll sleep at night uh i take it you're not gonna forgive your brother are you not in a thousand years roland had one job keep the lighthouse lit and he couldn't even manage that this was preventable dammit this is the last time i let his foolishness and clumsiness hurt me he can go feed a hyena with his own hide for all i care i'm done with him now and forever i'm gonna miss you yuzan wouldn't be at your back like my likewise my friend i hope we meet again under better circumstances wouldn't be at your back if you plan to make the journey to levant completely on foot be prepared for a long long journey you'll have to leave chairs and ease by going southeast then travel east through the entire and macar forest and finally south through the abersar desert itself if you have the courage to face the abersor desert and come to the huracan of the kingdom of levant i'll be waiting for you well we're going to take the same path uh branch path whatever uh that we took in the original series uh we'll follow risa and join the blue chamber collective i'd like to see how at least that plays out all right roland let's see what you have to say so wants me to follow in her footsteps and i i just can't i already have no desire to be chamberlain and what she told me i refused to consider being a part of it it's unlikely we'll meet again jim holy mission is about more than working for a god or fighting the scourge it's also about helping everyone regardless of tribe or family first protect and look after those who are in need are in need second have discipline and mastery over yourself and third always seek to improve yourself so you can better help others uh to improve and help one another it's a good set of values to live by in fact if you join the holy mission and give up your bloodline you'd be free from ever making payments on your blood price as well it's the ideal clean slate if you do want to join us meet me in monsoon in maybe we'll just sell it uh but we'll check out some of the things that chair cenise has to offer before we mess with going to see risa but for this episode we will we'll just be heading out and just getting into a bit of trouble we're not going to get into any uh mission level dungeon level exploration we're just gonna head out and there should be a whole host of bandits and hyenas outside these walls that we can tangle with for the remainder of this episode loosen jim up a bit get him some practice maybe drop some gear if anything we'll make some money but ah there we go how you need to we'll get us on treasure i think i said i want to do that before anyway and we'll see what awaits us out there actually first we're going to do two things we're going to go into that hollowed log and we're going to grab this crab eye tree crab eye seed whatever it's called because i believe [Music] that if i cook these can make poison rags and i like having poison rags oh there's another crab eye tree [Music] uh i don't need any of this stuff i'll take your boots because i'll rip them up that's kind of a bummer of a hollowed out log all right let's go now i believe there's usually some bandits out in this way although i don't know if any of like the spawn locations or spawn rates and whatever have been adjusted but there's usually a few stragglers about if not i'm sure we'll run into somebody somewhere uh we are gonna go up around and past the river the lake all right i know where we're going it does not seem like there are any bandits well normally i might say jim is a bit lucky but i think we were hoping to tangle a little bit and get some uh some good experience for jim and we'll take all this stuff hopefully that doesn't overweight us huh that's interesting they're usually a uh pistol shrimp down there well whatever huh there's no bandits here either they're usually bad it's like right here interesting god in the original series there was a freaking wendigo that was just trapped here it literally never moved on but i feel like there was like hyenas and like bandits and all sorts of stuff over here there's not even a pearl bird whoa about a cooking pot and an alchemy kit nice all right i'll say that the mountain looks a little shiny with their like lighting adjustments a little it's it's a little noticeable let's say but the purple grass is beautiful as ever really is a lovely effect that i'm surprised i haven't seen anywhere else to my knowledge just running the colors across the grass such a good good effect and we haven't seen anything or anybody surprised i figured we at least see some bandits if not pearl birds are like littering the countryside here nice that's exactly what i'm looking for man isn't there like always a pearl birds hangs out here annoying everybody i'll take your mushroom bar actually i'll take everything i can use all of that man there isn't a pistol shrimp there's nothing i think i see a pearl bird all the way across the lake all right well again i don't know if i'll call jim lucky you just need to get in some experience though we are doing okay better than i expected we took that one hit from uh from um the machete wielding guy which is better than i think i've ever done before also what is that is that poison clouds is that new i remember they're being poisoned over there and that sure looks poisony yeah that has to be detrimental is that new i do not in any way remember that being gaseous well we're not going over there because that for sure seems deadly anyway man we haven't run into anybody or anything at all interesting did i break something or is this like supposed to have happened hmm isn't there usually like a pack of hyenas over here all right there at least has to be a pistol shrimp down here oh man one of the things they mentioned in one of their like live streams was the uh voltaic hatchery i think what is it called over here uh it's now harder because people were getting through there too easily i'm like are you kidding me do you know how hard oh there wait no no there's no i thought that gate was hyenas it's not the world seems to be devoid of any life interesting i hope i didn't break the game what could i have possibly done all right the moon commands the stars this must be the stash that yazan told me about with a careful look you find the hidden compartment containing the goods metal panel is hidden beneath the wood five elements surface under close scrutiny a skull with two stars embedded in its eyes a sun a fish and the red moon push the moon the moon clicks firmly into place push the stars the stars move slowly and the rusty mechanism then finally gives way uh revealing a secret drawer the stash consists of a purse full of coins a dagger and a bottle nice 35 silver rondelle dagger and gabery wine i'm a little concerned that i've broken something oh i know there's a guy but he's inside that bandit camp technically and you can't get in from this side right maybe we'll mess with these bandits and cut through here i mean i was kind of hoping to tangle with some people so may as well i have some minor concerns that there's no one out here how bad it is in here i remember being able to cheese the wind to go through the cage hopefully you can although let's see there's probably some high level when to go right inside the door now huh all right so you can't cheese him anymore which is good yeah he used to get really upset right here and you could just like kind of whack him through the wall but he would still hit you a couple of times but i ain't messing with that thing yet i need better armor before i go in there and you can't do anything because the key is in there well all right all right we'll make our march back to chairs and ease and sell what we have collected i'm wondering if we'll run into any bandits along the way i'm a little concerned there was nobody outside before hopefully it's not that bad oh and i'll collect my my trap no one decided to trip you guys suck uh i think i was going to go this way and so we will do that we'll see if there's anything new to be seen let's just double check that one more time yeah we won't be turning right we'll turn left it kind of retreads a bit of an old path but we'll see i mean we should bump into some at least some hyenas if not a pearl bird this place should be lousy with pearl birds at least it has been in the past all right well we made it back this is a good spot to leave it i'm not sure how much of the trek back i kept in but we didn't run into really any sign of life there was a lone pearl bird right outside of the gate uh hopefully that mean doesn't mean the game is bugged in any way it could just be the luck of the draw that it didn't happen to run in any bandits or hyenas or or anything to fight on the way back but i'm sure they'll be uh patching minor things as they come up uh since this game as i mentioned did just released today um but uh when we come back we'll probably dive into the um troglodyte cave and get that mushroom shield i will be uploading regularly again uh with this starting with this upload so subscribe for more outward and i
