matching 50 style shirts and I like to sing as well how are you what's your name hi uh I'm Charlie Pitman uh I'm 25 originally from Sydney okay wow music to me is absolutely everything it sounds a bit cliche but I don't go a day without having music in my life whether that's listening to music or singing or [Music] writing I definitely couldn't live without music as dramatic as that sounds come on closer so my dad's Australian and my mom's English uh I was actually born in Australia in Sydney um but grew up mostly in the UK I love being back in Australia I think being up by the beach and for me it's all about sort of trying to reconnect to the country I was born and sort of set up a a real home here so in May 2020 um my dad was diagnosed with um Advanced bowel cancer that spread to his liver um and was originally given around 2 months to live and um we lost him um about a month ago you are the anchor on this ship we made I think you know we were fortunate that we sort of knew it was happening it wasn't like a an absolute shock but um it still didn't make it sort of any easier um it was nice that you know he was sort of surrounded by by family and stuff and knew how loved he was I think yeah only time can heal a deep wound time stand still the biggest thing for dad was always just like fly a dream before my dad passed away he really wanted me to to audition for The Voice Australia I wanted to still come here today to fulfill my dad's sort of final wishes and Chase my dream you've obviously spent some time in the land of Rita you're British yeah I'm half British half Australian so my mom's side Bri awesome tell me a little bit about yourself is music your job or do you yeah so I've been releasing music for the last couple of years um I do a lot of work writing for other artists as well which I really enjoy but this is for me something I want to do you know for the rest of my life this is my passion for sure you are saying all the right things because I've have one spot on my team I've been really selected with pushing this button and I really want a male kind of Pop Soulful singer songwriter this is the first time that I feel like you're don't you dare Jason you know I've said that stop gaslighting me Jason Charlie that was just such a great audition and I can tell that you've done this for a while just in the way that you so effortlessly flick in between your faletto the way you actually feel every lyric and I live for artists Like You on The Voice because this is a perfect place for you this show it's only going to expose people to what you do and I think you've got the goods to make a career out of this by the way this is is this your family so this is my mom and my girlfriend so they've come over from the UK oh wow wow that would have been an expensive trip if he didn't get a chair turn yeah I know it's late in the piece but I want you on my team thank you cheers hi hello hello lovely to meet you and you and thank you for that impeccable performance it was an an Exquisite audition and yeah you blew us all the way we were just so submerged in in in the way you you performed that I'm really interested to to know why you chose that song and is there a story behind that song yeah back in like 2020 my dad was diagnosed with cancer um and he actually passed away like 3 weeks ago um so I chose this song before cuz obviously I really connected the lyrics and I think lyrics you know as a writer lyrics are you know the most important thing I mean um and then yeah I chose the song and I was like I need to sort of really connect with this and and that's why I chose it I guess yeah condolences I'm so sorry I'm so sorry thank you come here it's not easy is it I know 3 weeks is it's that's so fresh and it's so Brave of you to do this I know you wouldn't have processed everything by now so it's been it's been a lot but yeah I thank you how incredibly Brave it is uh that you came here and did that especially with with the wounds being so fresh you know but creatives must be creative and sometimes that's our Outlet you know and I think that's a great gift to have you know and when we can turn to something at least you you know it gives us some kind of comfort um but I bet Dad is smiling down right now on you after getting these three chair turns man so congratulations thanks Jason thank you it would have been full thank you would be four exactly so I think you have a wonderful gift man um I I I actually came from songwriting as well um I got my first writing placement when I was 16 and being that you are a songwriter you can see it in your performance you are incredible man and I would love to have you as a part of Team Jason thanks Jason I think the beauty about this and hearing everything that's been said you're like a ready pop star do you know what I mean you're like super ready everything's all there you could be on the radio tomorrow um and that's what I hear I just hear that you would already be out there writing your songs you know having a whole body of work and I'm sure you already have that ready to go which is so exciting I would be super honored to have you on team chairs thank you is the one that I I think had a really tough job and that [Music] person is you Charlie thank you guys thank you welcome Lads this next battle is between my two musical Pop Guns Robbie and Charlie I love the laugh I I laugh just a point and laugh at each other Robbie as an artist is Way Beyond his years I mean he's only 19 and some of the stuff he's doing with his voice really really amazing um and so it's definitely going to be a tough one being up against someone of his caliber guy has paired me up with Charlie he's got such a beautiful voice so I feel like he's going to really be pushing me outside of my comfort zone re now that we're at the battles it's almost like what other the layers do we want to show so I've chosen a song which is really welln Snow Patrol Chasing Cars awesome it's known as one of the most emotional songs ever this song in particular people really apply their own meaning to [Music] it it [Music] all everything on her own beautiful [Music] we don't need their voices are very emotional voices but we weren't tapping into the right emotion both of you really know about loss me and my dad had like a bit of an on andof relationship towards the real back end of his life I think we started to really patch things up and he actually ended up passing from pneumonia really quick like this was very sudden like I had no idea about it we spoke the night before and that was a year ago now but it feels like it was yesterday I think it was a big step for me I felt like it was like the first time I really let it sink in a bit with other people so so yeah my my dad was diagnosed with cancer uh 2020 May 2020 but it was terminal when he was he was diagnosed and then uh yeah a couple months ago now passed away um yeah well I know how that feels yeah fastic oh well it was like a strange feeling sort of being able to talk to him and him talk to me and know that we both got that sort of mutual thing sort of comforting in a way as well put all of that into the song this decision comes down to what happens in the moment and it's whoever can rise to the Grandeur of this arrangement I broke the law long with this job I feel like since it's such an emotional song you have to hit every note and convey every bit of feeling so it's going to be [Music] hard enem Robbie's got an amazing voice and he's going to be belting a lot of stuff where I'm going to be doing a lot of stuff a bit softer so I need to make sure I just sort of focus on that and not let his excellent like performance take away from what I'm doing as well of blood and the gun it was fun on the as much as I've been telling myself like I just want to get to the battles realistically the goal is to [Applause] win I want to get as far as I can in in this competition and so to win this battle was just another step forward in in doing that that one of us is is going to go [Music] home [Music] we'll do it [Music] all everything [Applause] on and we don't need [Music] anything or any one if I lay [Music] here if I just stay here would you lie with me and just for I get the [Music] world oh [Music] all I [Applause] am all it I ever was is hearing yourf all I [Music] see I he writes that sort of artist is someone that I'm looking for because I know that they will use this springboard to then further themselves in the industry semifinals I know how you feeling yeah excited and grateful yeah my whole thing is just about showing different sides to you and um I feel like we've done that to a level but semifinals we got to up that big yeah the last mentoring you obviously opened up a bit about your dad and um I'm honestly so glad that he encouraged you to do this I had a little picture that was sent in okay from your mom I know you're aware of this particular photo oh wow where was that that was in Italy um yeah that was like dad's favorite photo of us I feel like you know already you've done him so proud it was so important for him to make sure I follow my dream a few years ago my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and we lost him about a month ago he probably say yeah try and bring at home like if you got this far there's one more stage to go when I was trying to think of a semi-final song for you I was like aha see what I did there that was terrible take on me okay which is it's so well known yeah I'm excited because it's such an iconic song Take Me me on me me this song goes across three octaves and I'm hitting notes that I've not even sung before in my life especially in in public so it's definitely a scary one maybe we let that note ring out for a day or two I think that's probably like the limit though when you approach this I don't want you to think it's big just relax everything it's not high for you okay believe me you'll like kill it it's definitely scary taking a risk so far along in the competition especially in the semis I think guy has more belief in me than I probably have in myself there's super high notes they're iconic notes it could go one of two ways really to get to the Grand Final it's going to be really tough with Bella being in my team that's the person I've got to beat and she's not really put her foot wrong yet there's no room for error at all talking away I don't know what I'm to say I say it anyway today's another day to find you shying away I'll be coming for your [Music] love on me take [Music] me be God in a [Music] day [Music] Take me Take On Me [Music] me and I be God in a day [Music] or in a day or two the artist that I'm going to take through to the grand [Applause] [Music] finale it's you Charlie Charlie [Applause] congratulations is that my grand finalist how you doing 7 foot tall Charlie Pitman to be honest Charlie inspires me as an artist he has tenderness he's got power he's such a great Storyteller he never performs to impress musical Integrity is really big with him we're just one step away from you possibly being crowned The Voice winner how you feeling about that yeah that's a a wild thought I never thought I'd even you know get to this point so to you know just hear hear those words is it's kind of crazy and you guys made a big effort too like not just you but your family it was amazing to see them at the blinds and at the semis but to think of how far they all flew yeah to be here especially after everything that you guys faced in the weeks leading up to it it's pretty incredible losing my dad was the toughest thing I've ever had to go through in my life and so having to deal with that whilst being on The Voice was you know it's been really tough have you spent much time this the family or You' just been knuckled down I spent a little bit of time with them but I'm I'm very focused on this well knowing that I'm going to bring them in oh really yeah oh God how you doing hello oh it's crazy that my family have flown over for this I feel really lucky that they've supported me in that way so I was hoping I'm I'm making them proud how are you feeling Sonia about this whole experience you had no idea how it was going to go yeah just didn't know what was going to happen it's just yeah the uncertainty of it all I'm so proud of Charlie getting to the grand finale but I'm kind of more proud of how he's done it while going through difficulties and just the strength and resilience that he's shown through the whole process sorry you could like I'm more sorry you could [Music] like I'm proud of him as a performer but I'm more proud of as a son so do you want to know the song yes there's a song that I landed on by Shawn Mendes call when you're gone great yeah and it's a bit different cuz it's a bit more uptempo yeah yeah we sort of just shown the delicate soft side of Charlie yeah but it's time for Charlie Pitman to do a bit of uptempo and just get a bit of energy in the room yeah absolutely I think it would be a great moment for the Grand Final 100% sha Mendes's music is actually what made me start writing music it really inspired me so the song does have a lot of meaning to me it's kind of a full circle moment I think it's hard for me to let go of you so I'm just trying to hold on Charlie stab was just so proud of him he would just tell everybody about Charlie's music my finger [Music] a it was just so important to him and I think perhaps when Paul became ill I guess it helps you realize that how important it is to do what you really want to do in life and just to go for it you would be so [Music] proud all my dad wanted me to do was to be an artist and I know my dad would want me to give this everything I've got and he'd be proud of me no matter [Applause] [Music] what you never know how good you have it oh until is staring at a picture of the only girl that matters I love it yeah I know what we're supposed to do but it's hard for me to let go of you so I'm just trying to hold on hold on I don't want to know what it's like when you're gone you're slipping through my fingertips a little bit by a little I didn't know the love you was the happiest St I've ever been so I'm just trying to hold you don't me all for the better it's getting real I'm missing you deeply
