the story happens in 1862 during a time of trouble in Korea called the Jan Dynasty this period faced many problems like social and economic issues and there was a lot of unfairness people suffered because of natural disasters and bad harvests leading to Poverty hunger and death the rich people who controlled the country cared only about themselves and treated the poor badly once a powerful person held a big party at his house many guests came and brought gifts for him some gifts were valuable like elephant tusks and some were binoculars the party was full of energy showing how important the powerful person was outside the official's house things were very different from the happy party inside a bunch of hungry regular people gathered there pleading with the official to give them some food inside the official was with a man named Lee te key who was also at the party and they were going to a room to put away some of the gifts but when they reached the room they found someone wearing a mask already there the official got scared and asked Taki for help but it turned out taky was working with the masked person outside the house a woman named mayang was drinking with the guards they were having fun until mayam suddenly hit one of the guards causing a disturbance this was part of a plan for robbery by a group called kundu which which included Tei and mayang they targeted corrupt officials taking their wealth and giving it to the poor they also executed corrupt officials despite the king's powerlessness against them kund do became feared by unjust Nobles and a source of Hope for suffering citizens the scene shifts to a man named Dal a humble butcher every day DOI prepared and delivered meat to the homes of Nobles and officials one day he delivered meat to a noble who had recently lost lost his son the Noble's son Jo Yun offered do a job Jo Yun asked doi to kill a woman living in a temple in the mountains feeling powerless to refuse a request from the Noble's powerful son DOI accepted the job in the evening DOI went to the shrine to do his job he sneaked inside and quietly searched every room for the woman finally he found her sleeping in one room DOI entered holding his knife ready to kill kill her but then he hesitated unsure about taking someone's life so he just stood there soon after the woman woke up and was surprised to see DOI panicked DOI ran out of the room and met a man named dang Chu who stopped him dangu advised DOI not to do it again but DOI ignored him and left when DOI got home Joe yun's Butler and one of his bodyguards greeted him eagerly wanting to know if the woman had had been killed do told them he couldn't do it especially after discovering she was pregnant he returned the money Jo Yun had given him as advanced payment upon hearing Do's refusal to carry out the killing Jo Yun sent a gang to burn down Do's house and attack him dal's mother and younger sister were also targeted Dal his mother and sister were trapped inside as the house was set on fire DOI tried to save his family but the fire spread too quickly destroying everything the next day DOI survived the fire but sadly his mother and sister did not his anger flared because of their deaths DOI went straight to Jo yun's house and challenged him to a fight however DOI didn't know that Jo Yun was an exceptional fighter and swordsman Jo Yun easily defeated DOI and guards arrested him for causing trouble during Joe yun's stepbrother's funeral that night as doy faced execution a group of people attacked the guards and executioner they were from kundu there to rescue DOI they swiftly took him to their hidden Hideout between two mountains when DOI woke up he met with members of kundu including dangu whom he had encountered at the temple when he was supposed to carry out Jo yun's orders Dal was even more surprised to see the woman he was supposed to kill on Jo yun's orders she turned out to be the wife of Joe yun's late step brother who had recently passed away Jo Yun wanted doi to kill her because she was carrying his late step brother's child who would be the hair to the family's Fortune Joe Yun aimed to become the so Hair by eliminating anyone who stood in his way even an unborn baby Do's refusal to kill her thwarted Jo yun's plan especially now that she was under kundu's Protection One of the kundo members Deo asked doi to join their group DOI agreed eager to seek revenge for his mother and sister's deaths at Joe yun's hands and also genuinely wanting to help the struggling common people he joined kundu and started training in the bamboo forest to become a skilled fighter capable of facing Jo Yun meanwhile Joe Yun a corrupt nobleman pretended to be kind by lending money to the poor however when the poor couldn't repay the loans Joe Yun would take their land which was worth much more than the loan he profited greatly from this unfair practice Joe Yun made them sign agreements they couldn't understand before lending money exploiting their illiteracy he amassed a vast Farmland stolen from these deceived poor people Joe Yun proudly reported his success to his father but his father was displeased seeing and as gained through oppressing the poor one day dongchu along with two kund members named chunbo and Kumon passed by Jo yun's Farm Danang Chu warned warned Joe Yun not to mistreat the poor anymore but Joe Yun filled with pride warned them not to interfere or face consequences dangu and the others returned to their Hout and discussed with other kundu members how to help the poor trapped in debt bondage to Joe Yun Dal offered to confront Jo Yun alone and eliminate him however the other kundo members rejected the idea because DOI was driven solely by Revenge which was too risky after a lengthy discussion de ho and the rest of kundu began to come up with a plan to stop Jo yun's tyranny meanwhile Jo yun's steps sister-in-law gave birth to a baby boy but tragically she passed away shortly after giving birth the first step of kundu's plan was to cause chaos near Jo yun's home then Tei and some kundu members including DOI would disguise themselves as Palace guards and offer to protect Joe yun's house from Intruders Joe Yun carefully examined the faces of the guards before agreeing to their offer he briefly glanced at Dal but didn't recognize him however Do's anger surged when he looked at Jo Yun almost drawing his sword he managed to control himself and stick to the plan Joe Yun accepted the guard's offer to protect his home that night Dal stormed into Jo yun's room and they engaged in a fierce fight Dal showed improved fighting skills but Joe Yun proved too strong DOI seized a moment of opportunity to escape on a horse fleeing the city however Jo Yun pursued him relentlessly determined not to let him get away the attack and Do's getaway were part of kundu's plan while Jo Yun was away from his house other kundo members raided it defeated the guards and took food and supplies to give to the needy meanwhile DOI kept leading Jo Yun into to traps set by the rest of kundu who were ready to defeat him once and for all Dal and the other kundu members Corner Joe Yun as planned and launch an attack however they are unable to match Joe yun's fighting skills which are superior to theirs DOI gets badly hurt in the fight so mang rushes to take him for medical treatment to save his life while the rest of the kundu members struggle against Jo Yun D steps in and faces him in a Fierce one-on-one battle however despite being one of the top kundu fighters deho finds himself overwhelmed by Joe yun's exceptional swordsmanship though Joe Yun struggles for a moment he eventually gains the upper hand and kills Deo with his sword mayam takes the injured doi to town and informs danchu and the rest of kundu about their failure and the loss of their comrades upon hearing this dangu decides to return to the place where they ambushed Jo Yun hoping some of their comrades survived upon arrival down Shu discovers none of his comrades are alive after burying daho and the others dangu is startled by Joe yun's sudden appearance Joe Yun captures him and takes him away torturing him to extract information about kundu's hideouts and activities despite the torture dangu remained silent refusing to betray his comrades frustrated Joe Yun punishes the poor people whom had received help from kundu Joe Yun brought some poor people before dongchu and threatened to kill them all unless dongchu spoke up despite the threat dongchu remained silent when Jo Yun asked about The kundu Hideout Jo Yun followed through on his threat and killed one of the poor people forcing dangu to speak up to prevent further innocent deaths the next day at The Hideout DOI was still recovering from his injuries sustained in the fight with Joe Yun mayang who was caring for the baby boy was startled by fire arrows aimed at them soon after fire arrows rained down on The kundu Hideout and the Conor under their protection Joe Yun and his men stormed Into The Hideout attacking everyone indiscriminately May young rescued the children from the attack and then joined the fight against Jo Yun and his men while carrying the baby boy on her back however Joe Yun soon realized that the baby boy in mind Mam's arms was his step brother's rightful hair he hurried to take the baby boy away from mayam and bring him home mayong didn't resist as Joe Yun took the baby boy and left the damaged and burnt house the reason Joe Yun is so determined to become the sole hair is because he seeks recognition from his father Jo yun's father only saw him as illegitimate because Jo yun's mother was not his Legal Wife although Jo Yun was brought home and cared for by his father due to the lack of a son his father's Legal Wife resented him and tried to have a son of her own to be the rightful hair finally when they had a son Jo Yun was no longer as loved and cared for as before when Jo Yun saw his father happily holding his newborn grandson he felt jealous and angry because his father still didn't acknowledge Him as his biological son and made the baby boy the rightful hair fueled by anger Joe Yun killed his own father meanwhile while DOI and Taki who survived Jo yun's attack decided to seek revenge for their fallen comrades by taking action against Jo Yun in town when the poor people gathered to face trial for aiding the kundu members and stealing from Jo Yun DOI appears and shoots the guards meanwhile Tei infiltrates the crowd urging them to unite against the oppression of corrupt officials who make their lives miserable fueled by anger the poor people rally together and successfully repel the guards meanwhile Joe Yun hesitates to harm his step brother's son however DOI and the poor people arrive demanding Justice from Jo Yun a fierce fight breaks out between Jo Yun and DOI with Jo Yun holding the baby they continue to battle and end up in the bamboo forest where DOI almost hits the baby while aiming at Jo Yun realizing the danger Jo Yun instinctively shielded the baby boy from Do's sword but in doing so the blade ended up cutting his own neck Jo Yun was Gravely wounded by Do's attack and succumbed to his injuries when a Conor stamped him in the Heart from behind with Jo yun's reign of Oppression and cruelty over it marked the end of one corrupt official's tyranny however Jo Yun was just one among many who mistreated the Common People his death served as a warning to other corrupt officials making them think twice before continuing their abuse of the commoners so the moral of the story is if you're planning a party make sure everyone outside your door is as happy as the guests inside or you might just find yourself in a sword fight in the bamboo
