[Music] so the untrained eye these are toy cars racing around the track however behind the scenes is f1 grade technology I've come down to the 2020 1/12 mark World Championships here in Milton Keynes in the UK to find out what goes in to these miniature rockets a hundred and twenty drivers from 19 different countries all over the world have come here to fight search on the crap but before they can race there's a whole load of preparation that goes into these cars the 112 Scout cars they're very small cars with foam tires we have a single cell lipo battery in the middle speed control large motor for the size of car so they're very fast very powerful this particular car has oil filled dampers here at the sides you can see then as the car rolls the dampers move and then there's another damper for bump handling they're got a single spring 4 bump at the back and the springs at the side for roll the front suspension has a movement there on the kingpin which is at the spring is the shell that goes on the car the speeds these cars travel at 60 miles now perhaps on the straight arrow dynamics becomes extremely important and the drivers will change the body shell design to suit different tracks different handling characteristics once right at the pit before that can get on to the racetrack they've got to get through this area here this is the racetracks equivalent of airport security we make sure the cars are complying with the rule some of the things we do prior to the rice some other thing that we do immediately Dolores there are certain control products for this race so the tires are controlled and they are numbered and that number relates the competitor that number conforms to the competitors number on his badge will also check the motor the battery and the chassis they all happen to be Mars and they have to be in accordance with the rules and we do that before they come here and the label just indicates that we've done it and then we know it very quick to those we have to check the battery voltage there is a maximum voltage allowed we have to check the speed controller then we will check the ride height so the rules say the ride height must be at least three millimeters so we have this gauge and if you listen carefully that means it's about down that means it's about three millimeters we then have to check how far this axle sticks right in this wheel with this gauge if it passes through the gauge then it's legal here we have to check body height so we've mount the body and we have a gauge here and there must be again finally by every class of motor racing there is a minimum weight so we'll put it on the scales and check so next they will assemble here so this is the driver staging area behind me and from there once the previous race is finished the drive the mechanics will put the cars down the drivers will go understand and then control passes to the referees they can now make it onto the racetrack but they're not actually racing one another well not just yet first I've got to qualify on that they're racing against the clock and two-time these miniature race cars is Formula One spec rice in technology during qualifying they're racing against the clock what we're looking for is the person that can do the most laps in the 8-minute race and the person has the most laps qualifies on pole position and the person who doesn't released in this case qualified 60th and there are finals of ten cars top ten the next ten and so on so they're not actually racing each other they're racing against the clock some of the positions in qualifying are determined by quite well the hundredths of a second literally determine advice is a very small front wait this is a transponder so as it goes over the start/finish line it sends a signal to a decoder which says which one it is this is entered into the computers well it works out what the drivers actually done and they're ranking all downs one hundredth of a second computer compiles it sees every one all the way through the qualifying which in syncs rounds best three to count it matters where they finish in the heat round one final the ring on Sunday I'm suddenly in the finals the drivers will go out three times it's to two counts so obviously what they want to do is go out and win too and they want it to be first two because they don't have to go up a third time and fight against somebody else for that title there's more exciting for us but that's what the drivers won what we'd prefer to see is one person win one final and then the second one won by someone else and then so we know there's a competition for the world championship so if you want to become a world champion you have to start somewhere but obviously you have to go and get a car also you've seen in the other parts of the video etc but the advice is is first of all go and find it flow because the club could help you you benefit to the club in several ways first of all you might not have to buy a very expensive car because they may lend you one make sure you're enjoying what they do when you've learnt the skill and you've learned what they do once you've got the basic skills of radio control you can go wherever you want you can pick whatever class you want you can then look around okay a bit more traveling one ship the freshness of the club you'll probably move on to a national or regional ting once you're in the Nationals you'll see the top end of the field they'll be going to the euros they'll be off to the Worlds it's open to you as long as you can qualify so basically you off to the euros exotic places within Europe world's every two years in your chosen class you'll be able to compete against polite [Music] and that's it guys that's the end of qualifying so the next time the cars are out on track will be tomorrow morning and it will be the final of the 2021 and 12th championship massive congrats to all of our finalists in the very best of luck to you all
