welcome everybody Welcome to Homestead heart and in today's video you all we're going to be sharing with you something that has truly devastated our garden I mean truly devastated our garden you saw in the community post um where I showed you our pepper plants and you've seen and kind of followed along with us on how we started the seeds and how we took care of our seedlings inside for month mons under grow lights right yes for months we was we was there we was watering we was keeping a close eye on them you know making sure that they was just right so they can just start you know to produce you know to where they was and they was beautiful yeah they were absolutely beautiful we planted some healthy plants Vibrant Plants they look so beautiful when we put them out in the garden you all have been watching us do that youve followed us while we were taking care of the plants just kind of showing them to you and I even posted in the community tab letting you know it's time to get our peppers in the ground well that's exactly what we did you saw us when we were transplanting the peppers and when we transplanted our eggplant and you all what we're about to show you is truly devastating for us and um it's heartbreaking but we decided to show you because it's like we have to show you The Good the Bad and the Ugly and we're going to talk to you all about what we thought it was and then what it actually turned out to be and because you know it you know I was saddened over what I thought it was but now I'm even more saddened over what it actually turned out to be so I'm going to turn the camera around Miss H and I are going to show you what's left of our three rows of peppers and and eggplant yes okay you all so this was our Rose of sweet peppers right here this was all Emerald giant bell peppers m h Come a Little Closer you can see them let's look at these I'm going to even pull this one up so you can see look at how around the stem is so I'm going to walk you all down this row and just kind of show you just look at all of our pepper plants here the Browning of all of the stems from the ground up look at that all the way down this road you're going to walk I just want you to see and these were the start of our big red bell peppers here and as you could see I have this one that's left but the stem here I just pulled it up so you could see this stem is already turning brown and starting to diey look at that and that's like that down this entire row I'm going to cross over so you can see the eggplant just look down this row so you can see the eggplant here you know you all know we just planted those all right what we're going to do is take you all down the other row now also in these rows what I planted was my real Grande tatos and many of you were able to get those from the SE the seed store and we also transplanted some purple Tomos and we use the Tomos as dividers so I had some [Music] um um Florida Market eggplant in the front and then I had purple once I planted all of those then I put in about three purple Tomos and then I finished off the roll with the black beauty eggplant so let's go on over here on this row so I can show you this these are our red Mar Peppers here these two look at this going pull it up and you can see the stem look at that we had red maronies Cuban naels sunbrite bell peppers all down this row is sunbrite now we still have a couple left but I don't know let's look at it and see this one's not going to make it the leaves are falling off as you can see the leaves have not been eaten okay they haven't been eaten they've just fallen off the plants look right here you can see the leaves just fell off and they're sitting right here in the hole okay so nothing look they're just falling off nothing's eating them look at the stem look at that stem look at that look at this one the leaves are beginning to fall off here you can tell look I'm just barely touching them and there it is falling clean off the Browning of the stem here this is all the same look at that it's turning brown look it's literally coming right on off yeah so all right so what we're going to do is we're going to go back up here turn the camera around and we're going to talk to you about what happened to our crops in this garden and this has been devastating for us this is devastating for us because that's our entire crop of sweet peppers and our entire crop of eggplants just gone all right so now we're going to talk to you about what we thought it was originally Mr H and I thought we thought that it was vs right yeah yeah underground uh rodents that come through and eat the root systems of of plants so that's what we thought it was because that's what happened to our sweet potato potatoes right yes when we planted sweet potatoes a couple of years ago you all saw that that we planted the sweet potatoes and when we dug them up yeah yeah they was they was eaten out of and and some of them didn't we didn't have a a harvest like what we thought we were going to have because the vs literally ate them the the vs they're going to eat and feed underground okay and so when we came out here literally a day later and we started noticing some of our plants the day after we planted them overnight literally we had lost like 50% of them yes and we were trying to figure out what in the world could it be and we immediately went to V right yeah and so we were thinking wow that's a lot to take out overnight but what are we going to do right yeah and so what we did was we purchased I just got this in yesterday evening and it's called VX I'm going to show you I'll bring it closer so you can see it but we bought this VX we haven't used it we opened it to look at the pellets yeah and we purchased it because it was supposed to be safe around pets safe for use around and in your garden areas in your lawn areas around your chickens even right and so we bought it for that purpose and it had some excellent excellent reviews and it's called v x so this is what we thought it was but when we came out here today and we saw that the rest of our crops were gone yeah you know we were like something got to be it's got to be more to it than that different right yeah because we have crops on these three rows that have been taken out right right but we have crops here that hasn't been taken out yeah and these are all in the same place so what was different about what we did in these rows versus what we did over in the other rows so you all what we did we came out here and we literally pulled up the plants like we're doing this one we investigated we looked at the root system even closer we looked at the plants the root system is all but gone all but gone right yes it's not looking good it's yeah it's fading away and it didn't look like it had been eaten out of so what we did was and I'm going to go down oh you can't even see but I'm going to Mr H is going to tilt the camera some just a little bit more so I'm going down in this hole right here and I pulled up what was in this hole I pulled up everything that was in this hole there's nothing in here no no tunnels no nothing that I can feel I'm literally having to work to get the soil out vs will leave a tunnel right there'll be a tunnel to let you know that they were present and as I mashed around and looked around Down in the Hole where I planted the crop there's no t but then you all I smelled the soil I smelled it I smell the soil that we have in this hole I squeezed it together and it standing together pretty good and I smelled it and this one just like all of the other holes that I've smelled here and the other areas this is pure ammonia this is pure ammonia now how did ammonia get into our soil here what did we introduce that put ammonia into the soil and it's so strong it's so strongo it's so strong strong it's so strong this has literally burned up all of our plants you all and I'm going to tell you what it is it's so strong just having it this close to my face it's all in my nostrils and I'm sad to say this you all black cow but this is what we put in this garden now you all know I'm going to scrape that back in the hole gosh his stinks you all know that we have been huge fans of this product for so many years and we've used it in our Gardens thus far on this Garden in this side of our rais and this side of our Gardens we've done the same thing to our Gardens for years yeah so what was the difference between this bag that we used over here and the bag that we used over there this bag was not fully composted this bag was not fully composted this bag you all was not completely composted manure it still had ammonia in it it still had an odor to it and I'm going to tell you something when you are planting anything in the garden using any kind of composted manure I'm telling you it should not have an odor to it and partly the reason why this is I feel like it's partly my fault it's simple because when I was mixing this in the holes I thought to myself as I was picking it up putting it in the holes I'm like wow the texture feels a little different right but I didn't bother I'm like oh it'll be okay I'll just mix it in with the sand and it'll be okay but I didn't pay it any never mind because I've just been using this product for so long that I guess I just assumed automatically that there would be nothing wrong with these bags when I brought them home I just assumed that bringing these bags home that everything was going to be okay yeah yeah so so the smell of ammonia yeah how did it get in uh Black Cow you think because well the ammonia comes from the mixture of the cow poop and the urine and so when you have that then you have ammonia I mean that's with all of our animals even chickens I mean chickens will poop everywhere and the the chicken poop that hasn't been composted it will even have a smell of ammonia now we didn't put any of our composted chicken manure in this Garden this year because we were saving it for the food forest and that's pretty much where we've been using all of our composted chicken manure and we're almost out of it right and so in the gardens we've just kind of gone back to what we thought was tried and true what we had been using for so many years just taking a couple of hand FS or a couple of Scoops and mixing it in to our soil that we had previously grown in just mixing it adding some feather meal and some bone meal right and that's all we add and that's the way we've been doing it for years but y'all this whole this one here oh man look at this I'm going to bring this closer to you so you can see and I'm not going to touch it with my hands but I'm going to squeeze that look look at that so you can see how it's just kind of being held together almost like a glue look at that I'm going to squeeze squeeze squeeze look at that it's not breaking up look at that it's like a glue and it stinks smells just like ammonia and a little bit of poop ammonia and poop is what it smells like so this is not completely composted manure all right so what do we do from here we got to come up with a solution well number one we got to replace our crops it's yes way too late to start bell pepper and eggplant over again it's just way too late for that y'all yeah I mean I'm I'm telling you you have no idea I'm just so devastated m h will will tell you like yeah I I didn't want to talk about it for a full a whole day I just didn't want to be bothered I didn't even want to think about this Garden right for a whole day because I was just so devastated because you put so much work into your garden and you prepare for things right as best you can you think about the pest what we got to do right we got to make sure we you know prepare for any pests that might want to come along and take out our garden you want to make sure you have the best fertilizers that you can get if you're not making your own fertilizers which we are by the way we are right but because of the size of our Gardens it is difficult with everything that we've been doing to have that much compost available for our one two three Gardens and our food Forest right since the Food Forest was new that's where all of our compost went and you know I have to say our food Forest looks really good but my God you know just thinking about what has happened out here you know yeah yeah it's it's tough It's really tough so we got to replace yeah we got to replace what we lost and then we got to come up with a solution on what we going to use instead of going forward going forward you know and I'm not saying and and let me be absolutely clear I'm not telling you not to buy this product I'm just telling you that if you buy it before you put it in your garden you got to smell this product you really got to look at this if you're going to use it because I still have several bags of this black cow we buy about 20 bags or so a year yeah right we buy about 20 bags or so every single year that we use sometimes we're doing pots sometimes we're mixing it in our watermelon patch I am so glad that we haven't planted our watermelon yet because we would have lost all of our watermelon had I put those you know and like I said and actually actually we didn't buy that many bags this year because we had some left over from last year year and it was last year's bags that we started with in this garden and that would explain why these are doing just fine I got Mr H's hot peppers over here and they're all looking just fine yeah but that was because we used what we had first which was from last year's purchase and so this year when we bought about what 14 bags 14 bags we bought about 14 bags or so this year and that's what we started with over here working our way back now because we got brassas about to fall ain't it yeah we got brassas planted over here we got Peppers planted over here and they look just fine nothing's wrong with them but in a food Forest the blueberries oh yeah we used new bags on those remember I remember getting the the new bag from this pile and that's what happened we put it around and we put it around some of our blueberry bushes and I remember telling you all that we had some blueberry bushes that were sticks that we got in and they were not looking so good like they were not going to make it and Mr H is right we did put a little bit of Black Cow around those blueberry bushes so that would would probably explain why they're brown too yeah we'll probably do a video and show you that they're brown too they're they're dead yeah so it was this black cow compost that we mixed in and the bags that we literally just purchased from the Lowe's in W Robins Georgia that's where we got them from yeah and I don't think the bags that we picked up were ready because we literally just started using those bags first in the food Forest yeah and then here yeah in this Garden the bags that we had previously we mixed those in in our compost I mean in our containers for some of the trees that we had we mixed that in some of the older bags and we use the remaining of the oders over here yeah and they're not burnt up yeah they're not burnt up we're going to show you they're not burnt up they look just fine yeah so it's just literally these three rows here the two rows of bell pepper and my one row of eggplant and tatos and there's no way I can start Tes again these were things that we started you all back in February yeah and it's just about May yeah so so so we uh I don't I'm not going to say I won't use black C again but we need to come up with something that's more safer something that won't burn the starts up uh we need to come come through uh with something that's better you know so we won't have to worry that's just point blank yeah yeah you're right about that so I guess that's what we're going to do yeah so y'all that's it that's it y'all all my bell peppers are gone what we do we show y'all The Good Bad and the Ugly so y'all won't make the same mistakes hopefully y'all can catch it before you know smell it before you use it we're not saying this product is bad no it helped us out in years it we're not saying that we're not saying it's bad product you all we're not saying that because we've been using it for years and it's been working yeah right but I'm telling you I think we got a bad batch here yeah I think we got a bad batch that wasn't completely composted and it has ruined yep ruined my blueberries my bell pepper crop and my eggplant crop for the year yeah ruined it and and y'all saw how beautiful those starts were they was Lush my God they was green you know and all of a sudden you know they turning yellow the leaves on them the leaves are falling down they just they don't look good they don't look healthy but we got to continue man these look horrible yeah this right here This was um this was my purple tato right here and it was so big and beautiful it was just gorgeous and I was so excited for the Tomos this year the purple and the green I was so excited because of the different things I had planned for using the tomatillos and you know just kind of sharing with you all some of the canning projects that I had for the Tomos so these are all gone yeah so I don't know what about my bell peppers D no we don't have any bell peppers no bell peppers we don't have any bell peppers and you all know I always say I have to plant a ton of bell peppers because I use so many bell peppers when I cook throughout the year that I dehydrate them and I planted so many peppers this year that my goal was to be able to have enough to at least have four to five half gallon jars full of dehydrated bell pepper and maybe you don't know but that's a lot of bell peppers right there when you're trying to dehydrate to get two gallons right two to two and a half gallons of bell pepper because I I use it in just about everything that I cook you know especially if you're putting it in something with hot liquid or whatever soups or what y'all I'm telling you so um yeah I have a problem with purchasing starts from the big box stores yep because now it's like to me it's just um hard for me to do that especially with the amount that I need right yeah so like if you're just growing a couple of peppers or five or six pepper plants then you might be okay you know yeah but y'all this don't look too good we going to have to start all over again you know we going we going to keep trying I have 50 plants so can you imagine trying to replace 50 bell pepper plants wow that's a lot 50 that's a lot yeah so I don't know but just look The Good the Bad and the Ugly that's what we show you all and we try to be um transparent about this Garden because you all have heard us just Rave about the black cow and how much we have loved using it and how we've always used it in the past and it's been amazing for us to use in the past yeah but um but this year we uh we just got got a bad batch and we we just got to bounce back and we got to come up with a solution you know yeah that part yeah yeah we going to do it we going to bounce back so yeah we're going to figure that out and um once we decide what we're going to do and how we're going to solve this so it doesn't happen to us again we're going to let you all know trust me we're going to keep you posted yeah we're going to keep y'all posted all right but again you all I want to be clear I'm not saying that black cow is a bad product I'm really not cuz I've love using this stuff for so many years yeah but I just wish I would have um caught on to it before we used it you know how God put that in your spirit and you ignore it sometimes yeah because literally you know I'm telling you I can literally go back in time to the moment when I took that first first handful and was putting it in the hole and the second and the third handful and I was like wow this is really different why does it feel like glue you know why is it feeling like this and I remember you saying it smell different has strong smell it's it I said it it's the smell is a little different right but I didn't pick it up and bring it to my face to smell it I literally just grabbed it and put it in the hole and mixed it around in the sand I didn't take my time to like wait a minute I was just trying to get the stuff in the ground before the rain come yeah and so yeah we just uh got to show y'all The Good Bad and the Ugly and we got to just keep on going and see what we can do to solve this problem and we're going to solve it you best believe that that's it that's it y'all hey but we got to keep on growing our groceries we going to figure some out we going to figure some out y'all I am heartbroken yeah me too my beautiful pepper plants I am heartbroken beautiful eggplants you know Miss A's eggplant peppers eggplants wow so that's it that's it y' hopefully you all found it helpful if you got some black cow please go and smell it yes smell it grab it and smell it yeah and if it if it smells has any odor don't use it don't use it if it hasn't older don't use it it's going to have to um sit for a while I'm thinking the bags that we got I'm just going to just let them sit till next year yeah I'm not using I'm not opening another bag and we still have plenty of them because we had just started to open them up and use them in the garden over here yeah so so I'm not going to be using those yeah that's it it's heartbreaking you know we just got to figure a way out of it we just got to bounce back and see what else we can come up with yeah what he said yep all right y'all that's it thanks for watching Homestead heart peace and blessings to each and every one of you y'all continue to grow your groceries and we're going to see y'all in the next video peace
