so anytime I film a video I try to record the majority of the sound for it on location to make things easier for myself when I'm editing unfortunately though that's not always possible maybe sometimes I'll forget to record something or some of the audio won't sound the way I want it to and it's not usable in those cases I might have to pull sound effects from one of the big platforms out there like epidemic or art list but the issue there is that a lot of the time they don't perfectly match my scene and I need to do extra processing to get them sounding right one of the main things I do to make that happen is using Reverb in order to make them sound a bit more natural and as if they were part of the environment that I was filming in up until this point the way I would do that was by using the built-in Reverb effect in resolve and even though it's very useful to me personally it's also very unintuitive there are so many controls and dials that I know very little about and because of that I'd end up saying ending ages on trying to get the Reverb sounding right on every single effect I use luckily though I recently found out about this absolutely amazing and completely free resolve plugin that I think can save a ton of time from this step of the editing process and I just wanted to quickly talk about it because I genuinely believe that a lot of you might also find it useful plus it might just be me but I haven't heard or seen anyone else talking about it so the plugin is called placeit and it's by a company called SoundLink this video isn't sponsored the link in the description doesn't do anything for me I just wanted to let people know about this it essentially gives you a super simple control panel that you can use to add different types of Reverb to your sound effects music or your voiceovers on top of that you're also able to make them sound like they're coming out of a variety of sources after you install it you might have to go and enable it within resolve if you can't see it right away you do that by going to the preferences and then system audio plugins and you should see it in the available plugins list if you don't see it in there you might have to add the path to where it's installed manually from the menu at the top after that you should be able to see it below if it's not checked already you have to click it to enable it then hit save and restart resolve when you open it back up you should now be able to see it in your effects panel on the edit tab under audio effects then VST effects now all you have to do is just drag it on top of whatever clip you want to use it on so when you do that this control panel should pop up and even though it doesn't look like much this is going to give you a ton of control the two big dials that you see are the main controls you're going to be working with the one on the left is for your Sound Source and the one on the right is for the space that the sound is going to be placed in each of them has an on and off switch that you can use if you only want to be using one of them you've also got the sliders that you can use to control how noticeable the effect is for each of these dials at the very top you've also got a drop down menu where you've got a bunch of different presets that are essentially just different combat nations of the Sound Source and the space in the middle there's also this wall slider that basically lets you control how muffled the sound comes across almost like it's behind the wall under each dial you've got a drop down menu the one on the left lets you pick what type of Sound Source you want to emulate for your audio and these are separated based on the size of the device that you're trying to make it sound like the one on the right lets you pick what environment you want the audio to be placed in and you've got a ton of options to choose from Plus at the top there's a slider that lets you pick how long you want the Reverb to actually last so to give you a few examples of what you can do with this I'll show you what it does to sound effects and then to music tracks as well now let's say I want to add a sound effect for walking on leaves to this clip if I just drag and drop this sound effect under it and play it back you'll notice that it doesn't sound very natural the person in frame is clearly further away from the camera but the audio sounds like you're right next to them which just kind of makes it feel fake so if I drop the plugin onto this sound effect I'm gonna disable the source because I don't want it to sound like it's coming from a phone or a computer or anything then using the menu under space I'm gonna go to outdoor and pick something like medium because I wasn't too far from him when I was filming I might also increase the Reverb length a bit because sound echoes in a forest and I'll just mess around with the dial for the strength of the effect and now if we listen back to it you should notice that it sounds a lot more natural now I could probably spend a bit longer on getting the timing right and stuff but even just by doing this I personally think that it sounds a lot better and I can absolutely guarantee you that doing all of this using the built-in Reverb effect in resolve would have taken me at least two times longer if not more and keep in mind you're probably gonna need to do this process for a lot more than just one sound effect so it all starts adding up so now let's say that I want to make this song sound like it's coming from a radio I can go to the menu at the top for the presets and pick radio living room for example here's what it sounds like without the plugin foreign and here's what it sounds like with it now tell me that doesn't sound absolutely amazing and I spent like what 10 seconds on it I mean are you kidding me if I wanted to I could also move the dials around to tweak how it sounds and I can also push this wall slider a bit to make it sound like the music is in another room [Music] or just by picking the presets for elevator speaker I can make it sound completely different in like two clicks [Music] there are so many results that you can get with this plugin and I can't show you all of them because this video would get way too long but the best way to figure out what you can do with it is to just like try it out for yourself I really think that if you're someone who works with sound effects and music at all you absolutely have to try this plugin it's completely free to use and you lose nothing but I'm almost sure that it's gonna change the way that you edit your videos even if you only occasionally find yourself trying to get this type of creative effect I find it really hard to believe that there's an easier way than using this plugin so hopefully you found this video useful if you end up trying place it I'd be really happy if you could drop a comment and just like share what you think about it like I said the link for it is going to be in the description as always thank you so much for watching until the end and I'll see you in the next one foreign
