in this quick lesson i'm going to show you how to figure out every chord in every key both major and minor with no theory using one simple shape in any major key you have seven chords made up of three major chords three minor chords and one diminished chord which we typically order like this and to identify all of these chords in any key it's as simple as this pick a key for example a major and now find this a note on the e string 5th fret and attach this simple l shape [Music] each one of these notes will act as a root note for each major chord in the key so you can now play all the major chords in the key of a these being a d and e and now for the three minor chords take this same l shape [Music] and move it down by three frets revealing the location of the three minor chords in the key of a major so simply attach a minor chord to each of these notes giving us f minor b minor and c sharp minor and to find the last chord you simply need to look one fret below the a chord and attach a diminished shape in this case g sharp diminished and now we have one very simple pattern which gives you all seven chords available to you in a major key and from here you can play any combination of these in any order you like to create chord progressions in the key of a [Music] applying this to different keys is easy simply move the pattern to start at the desired key and the chord shapes remain the same for example starting the pattern on the seventh fret would give you every chord in the key of b major and starting the pattern on the 10th fret for instance would give you all the chords in the key of d major now the great thing about this is that you don't just get every chord in every major key but you also get every chord in every minor key using the exact same pattern this is really simple so let me explain instead of viewing this note in the pattern as your first chord and major key center you need to view this note as the first chord and minor key center instead for example you could position this pattern here starting from the g note on the low e string which would place us in the key of g minor this would reveal our three minor chords g minor c minor and d minor and also our three major chords b flat major e flat major and f major and last but not least our diminished chord a diminished so nothing has changed except from where you view your starting point in the pattern using this simple shape you will now have access to every chord in both major and minor keys with little to no effort having said that i highly recommend diving deeper into the theory behind all of this which you can do by watching any one of my more in-depth lessons on my channel if this lesson helped you out then feel free to like and subscribe and i'll see you in the next one
