rev up your engines today I'm going to tell you the truth about radiator sealers for use in your car do they really work throughout the history of cars people have attempted to fix them by adding some type of sealer an Australian mechanic showed me years ago what they did in the outback they're kind of in the middle of nowhere it I see they got a little radiator leak they go to the first store they could stop it and they would buy some course pepper and they poured the pepper in the radiator and it actually could stop the leaks in the old metal radiators and I remember years ago in Houston I used to buy a great radiator sealer that was made in Oklahoma and it said warning contains organic material well they weren't joking because the guys at the old Charlie's hi/low auto parts store they sold the stuff and he said you're not kidding one time a rat got in and it ate a whole bunch of the sealer they didn't find any dead rat so I guess the rat liked the organic material and ate it hopefully it didn't seal up the back but I don't advise you to experiment with organic materials like pepper in your radiator if your radiator split wide open has a hole especially with modern plastic radiators if this plastic is really old and brittle even if a seal is put in fixes one crack hey the whole thing's cracking there that general start leaking it's not safe to drive it that way but often they leak on the crimps cuz even though they call them plastic radiators they're actually plastic and aluminum the cooling fins are all made out of aluminum and if it's leaked in there the sealer can often get between the aluminum and the plastic where it's crimped and stop the leak entirely but how do you know which one to try why I've been fixing cars for the last 52 years and nobody's telling me to hock their products nobody's paying me to tell you this is better than that it's just experience ages ago when I was a young mechanic we used the same company bars leak they were called pelletized ones and they had a liquid with pellets supporting radiator didn't work quite well but you could say this is now liquid aluminum it's not pelletized it's liquid aluminum as radiators a technology change the sealers change tools hey it's pretty much the best one out there for fixing leaks in your radiator big advantage as you can see here works with all kinds of antifreeze or pure water so you can use it with anything the problem with a lot of the older sealers are if you use them with the modern coolant the old coolant they will coagulate and clog up everything your heater core make your engine overheat worse than it was in the first place heck that's one of the reasons they make these videos to show people what they have to use with modern technology so always watching my newest videos because that has the newest information you could possibly get out of me yeah I've been doing it for 52 years but some of the old stuff that used to work doesn't work and there's newer stuff hey it actually does work templates to use when the engine is cool you just like the radiator cap off and pour the stuff in now I don't need to pour it in here cuz it's not leaking but that's all you have to do with this stuff but let me give you one big warning yes it works on all kinds of cool under pure water it's not gonna clog things up that way but never ever use any type of sealer this one included if you've got dirty rusty corroded coolant in your vehicle the first thing you want to do is flush out your cooling system I got a whole video on that then put the sealer in the coolant end it's the same if say you got a leaking rear main seal on your engine you don't want to pull the transmission off to replace that engine rear main seal for the engine oil if that's leaking the first thing you would do would be change the oil and filter then you put a good seal around and for that I use this at 205 reseal it's often hard to find say in Chicago but Amazon sells it so anybody can buy it if they really want to get hold it but you want to put it in clean oil not dirty because the clean oil has less friction this is gonna work longer and since it's clean oil you're gonna leave it in longer for the whole cycle so let's say you got a small radiator leak as long as you're cool once clean enough you just pour this stuff in and drive and you're leaving it you don't have to take it out it mixes perfectly fine with it I've been using this stuff for years and I don't have any problems with it if you have a physical leak in your radiator this can often seal it for years I've had customers I put the stuff in three years later it's still not leaking well of course when it's time to change your cooling again then you'd have to add another can with a new coolant but hey if it lasted that long man you're getting your money's worth but let's say you got a head gasket leak the worst kind where the head gasket on your engine either burning coolant and you get white smoke coming out of the tailpipe or you see coolant leak in between the head and the block if you see coolant way down here with a head bolts to the block down here under here or on the other side what you really can't see much of here but you'd have to look on it with a flashlight that means that the head gasket is leaking between the head of the engine and the block how many cars today it's gonna cost you well over a thousand dollars some of them four or five grand to replace it it's a very expensive repair and for that you need a special sealer this is much more complicated if you want to do it right the other stuff you just pour it in drive it or where you go but head gaskets it's a completely different game because the radiator pressure leaking is like 15 pounds per square inch the head gasket seals the engine compression when of gasoline fires of the spark plugs to the outside world or to the cooling system and that can be well over 1,500 pounds per square inch when the spark looks fun so it's a lot harder to seal now I've been using the seal up stuff for decades it used to be made up Street in Conroe Texas but they got bought out by a company called Blue Magic so now it's blue magic seal up used to be car go seal up but it's the same stuff and what the main ingredient is as you can see here contains sodium silicate known as liquid glass now sodium silicate is a compound that really can seal leaks it's almost instantaneous I've had cars where I put this stuff in the correct way once I started out engine within five minutes the white smoke would stop coming out of the tailpipe and it would stop that leak and a head gasket but it's more complicated don't listen to anyone elses directions because it's a lot of baloney anything that has sodium silicate in it the first thing you have to do is flush all of the cool out of your engine and remove the thermostat this stuff has to be used with pure water but if you do have a blown head gasket realize it might cost you thousands to fix it so it's worth spending a few hours flushing all out then putting just this is and pure water you can let the car sit idle for half an hour then shut it off cool down for half an hour start it up you can do that five or six times because the sodium silicate only works when it gets about about 105 degrees Celsius it's got to be warm inside for it to work if it doesn't get hot enough it won't work it's got to get hard enough to make the bond and seal it up and in extreme cases let's say the number three is really blown bad you would remove the number three spark plug so that when it's running in a runoff but it won't build up all the pressure and allow this to seal that cylinder there's a lot of tricks to stuff like this it's not as simple but if it works you're gonna be really happy I have personally used to seal up in cars I remember a Honda accord I use it in three years later the lady was still driving the car but if you do any research on this stuff you're gonna say some people that absolutely hate using any product that says sodium silicate in it because they say I put the stuff in and my engine blew I had to get another engine well first your engine ones going out anyways but it can actually ruin certain engines so this is what you have to check before you use this stuff get out your engine dipstick make sure that the oil is full not really over full because if it's over full that generally means water's in it or if it's really full of water this will be all foamy and you'll see water bubbles on you'll know you now have radiator coolant inside your engine oil now if you do have radiator fluid mixing with your engine oil that means that you put the sodium silicate in your radiator it's gonna get some of it into your engine oil which you never want to do because sodium silicate works super fast like I said sometimes within five minutes they stop smoking and I use it in warfare guys used to use sodium silicate to destroy engines let's say you're abandoning your tank they would jet the pour like a gallon of the sodium silicate you to the engine oil and when the engine started up that silicate locks the bearings up and the engines just frozen and won't work anymore so a few have coolant in your engine oil don't try using this or any sealer that says contain sodium silicate there's a lot of them that use the same process but there's some kind of law in the United States that says caution contains sodium silicate that's a warning label on these now if you drank the stuff it could kill you it's probably one of the reasons it says warning but the main warning is for your engine you never want any of the sodium silicate to get mixed with your engine oil because if you do yes it can destroy your engine and that's why some guys try this stuff they don't check they got coolant going into their engine oil when they put this in it can destroy your entire engine there's no arguing that but thankfully head gasket can blow in many ways often they blow between the head gasket and the cooling system or the cooling system on the outside of the engine where you see the coolant leaking outside and the oil galleys inside the head those seals are still working so in that case yeah you can use the sealer won't hurt anything but if you're getting coolant water into your engine oil don't ever use any of these sealers that say contain sodium silicate cause then you're taking a big gamble your engine might lock up in that case you're either gonna bite the bullet and have your engine taken apart and a new head gasket and all the other gaskets that come off when you take it apart replace don't try to use this when you get coolant in your engine oil I mean marking has changes over the ages this is their new bottle but their old bottle it used to say for professional use only because I only wanted pros using it who aren't gonna pour it in one and lock up the engine we're a public guy might just buy this to sell great I'll pour it right in and they don't know that the head gasket is leaking oil and water mixing in the engine and then the sodium silicate in here it can just make your engine lock up the bearings will just lock right up if they get sodium silicate on because the sodium silicate sealer hey it can be a genie in a bottle but it can also be a bad that doesn't give you your wishes but gives you your worst enemy a blown engine if you pour it in when the water is leaking in the engine oil so now you know when used correctly different types of sealers can be used to fix different types of leaks in your engine's cooling system but do use them in a correct manner and since this is mechanic Monday I'll be giving away a bunch of these seal ups to have a chance to win place a clean non offensive comment and YouTube comments below and a winner will be chosen randomly by computer to attempt to seal a blown head gasket for about ten dollars instead of a few thousand, so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember to ring that Bell
