My wife is from Siberia and she has a rule that our kids must spend at least one hour outside everyday in winter no matter what, no matter how cold it gets (-20F / -28C once in awhile where we live). I keep thinking it's probably some vitamin D deficiency prevention thing built into their culture.
how my mom makes it seem when she walked to school
I don't think my ass would allow me to take a shit in a -50 degree outhouse.
Just because someone has it bad doesn't mean you can't complain too
Didn't think I'd spend 40 minutes learning how Yakut kids get to school, but that was more interesting that I thought it would be.
I really don't like the voiceovers in these documentaries.
I want to hear the natives' voice. Not some random American guy/girl. It really takes away from the experience.
The father says "So I live here, I love living in harmony with nature." Like what? Nature is trying to kill you as soon as you step out the door. Nature could not make it any more clear that humans should not live there.
The next morning: JAYSUS FACK ITS COLD
This reminds me of my childhood in Transylvania. In those days, temperatures easily dropped to 21-26 degrees below zero. I remember the feel of the ice on my lashes like it was yesterday, the shine of the snow in the sun like diamonds and the four layers of clothing that kept me from lifting my arms. I also walked to school holding my cousin and the other children by the hand. Fortunately, it only took us 15 minutes to reach the school 😂 The thing that makes me more sad is that it tooks only 20 years to increase the temperatures, now only in january for a few days temperatures would reach -15 degrees. -21 - 26 degrees are pretty impossible now.
