here are some of the most unusual medical conditions we've ever seen in 2015 inside edition reported on a girl who couldn't stop sneezing twelve-year-old caitlin thornley lived outside of houston and was sneezing over 12 000 times a day she even had trouble completing a sentence without starting to sneeze some kid ends up making fun of me or something like that and it just gets her only relief seemed to be when she listened to music especially the beatles [Applause] even in my dreams i sleep i sneeze doctors ruled out allergies and viruses but were stumped as to what caused the fits this teenager also experienced uncontrolled sneezing lauren johnson had a rare tick that apparently started with a strep throat infection she had some advice for caitlyn my child just to keep going don't let people get her down i don't care what they do i just wanted to stop it's been going on for a way too that uncontrollable laughing that joaquin phoenix's character experienced in joker it's a real thing it's caused by a condition known as pseudo-bullbar effect or pba one man with pba described what it felt like it starts as little giggles and like i can feel it building and building it's like having an adrenaline rush inside edition's jim murray spoke to a former nurse who also had pba it made her laugh and cry do they think you're dangerous do they think you're crazy do they think something's wrong with you what do people think they think that there's something wrong with you that uh maybe you're unhappy especially if you're crying if you're laughing uncontrollably then they think you know what you're crazy a woman posted a video of her mother who had pda and there's an example just the outburst of crying and she's not sad psychologist jeff gardeire said this is a neurological disorder which can be very disruptive on one's life uh and quite often we do see that individuals like this who have this uh begin to isolate themselves because they can't control those emotions in 2018 we met a toddler named ivy she loved taking baths but was only allowed to stay in the water for a few seconds i want to see your feet her feet turned red and started to form blisters i would rub her with a towel that they would kind of break open ivy's mother explained her daughter's unusual condition ivy is allergic to water get it off of her any water of any temperature gave ivy an allergic reaction her parents brittany and daniel had to limit her time playing outdoors but there were other things they couldn't control she's allergic to her own tears that made it tough for ivy especially since her little sister didn't have the condition i want to play with my sister i want to be in the bathtub i want to splash play laugh and know she'll sit there on the sidelines kind of doomed instead of a bath ivy got cleaned with wet wipes put your arm up it's absolutely heartbreaking i mean it's you can't even put it into words how that makes you feel as a father when ivy was born she loved the water no rashes no sign of no pain nothing bothering her but at eight months mysterious red hives began to appear on her skin i do anything that every other mom would do when you eliminate all the bath products check your laundry detergent check your fabric softener brittany tried using distilled and purified water to no effect she can feel the reaction coming and she can feel the heat ivy you'll say mommy ouch hurt she'll say it's hot we kept going to the doctor like what's going on but they kept saying well she's obviously having an allergic reaction but we don't know to what they finally got some answers when they saw pediatric specialist dr douglas mcmahon in st paul minnesota i've actually never seen a case of it dr mcmahon examined ivy and did some tests we did a water test in the clinic where we basically took a a rag soaked in water and put it on her and you can really see with longer exposure the worse she is so what was the diagnosis aquagenic urticaria well at first i thought what is that it's an extremely rare condition affecting fewer than 100 people nationwide its cause is unknown and there is no cure i think it's baffling because a lot of people think our bodies made of water how can we react to water we need water and so how can we react to it so that's why so much intriguing about it ivy received antihistamines to help control the severity of her condition fortunately she could still drink water safely but her parents said it was tough going sometimes you just feel so hopeless the future is very scary finally if you ever thought your hair was hard to manage check out these kids in a story from 2017. kyra jaylee and charlie have a rare genetic condition that's sometimes called uncomable hair syndrome there's nothing you can do to tame it if you take them anywhere you probably have five or six people running their fingers through your child's hair everywhere you go strangers they walk by and just ruffle it all three were born with little or no hair and when it finally grew in their parents suspected something was amiss it would just stick straight out like she had just stuck her finger in a light socket we would comb it try to comb it down pop right back up styling the girl's hair proved difficult to say the least sometimes we will just wash regularly and then actually try to blow dry it down to get it to lay down for a while and it works temporarily but not all day typically uncomable hair syndrome is diagnosed by the time kids turn three for people with the condition their hair is almost always white or strawberry blonde there are only about 100 documented cases in the world some suspect albert einstein might have had it the good news is the condition is benign and children often grow out of it as they hit puberty no cure for this but they do the prognosis of this is really good pediatric dermatologist alana brie examined some of the uncomable hair this is one of the hairs that we see under the microscope and you can see right here that the hair has a little twist in it and because of that it makes it kind of triangular shaped instead around and that's how it twists on itself whatever the cause these uncombable hair families embraced being different your hair's so pretty this is inside edition digital
