These 10 Engines Are Truly The Best Sounding Two-Stroke Units

today when every single car uses four stroke engine the two-stroke engines are of a forgotten kind it doesn't seem like a long time but some of these engines are now over 50 years old or so the two-stroke engine is a special one it requires a different approach in development and also in use they feature their own special soundtrack especially the gasoline ones which believe or not can be very pleasant to listen to [Music] ward work 353 the wired work 353 was a popular car from east germany not only in germany but also other countries including the then-existent czechoslovakia this especially concerns the wagon version with the very spacious boot at this time the two-stroke one-liter engine was a dated power plant despite which it was still able to keep up in terms of power fuel economy and also in overall dynamics [Applause] [Music] um [Music] um erudison it's more than certain that you have heard of this project before the rudison is actually a volvo amazon with a custom tuned two-stroke v8 the engine was created by a milwaukee-based company called evinrude they built various two-stroke v8s ending their production in 1995. the roderson is a swedish direct car modified from the stock 250 horsepower to around 400 ponies and a 8500 rpm rev limit so [Applause] so uh detroit diesel 8v71 while these big service diesels are meant to work hard with no effort put in their sound during development detroit's diesels are some of the best sounding diesel engines in the world not only that they also sound exceptionally awesome amongst other two-stroke units this one in particular was a v8 either naturally aspirated or turbocharged used mainly in highway trucks and transit buses [Music] [Applause] so [Applause] kawasaki h1 mach3 when you hear of kawasaki triples it applies to bikes from 1968 to 1980 being propelled by three cylinder two-stroke engines with displacements between 250 and 750 cc of course this includes the h1 model which wasn't the most enjoyable bike to ride it received the reputation of having evil handling followed by not so comfortable ride quality despite its numerous flaws assured by its great power to weight ratio it was fairly quick at its time [Applause] go go mobile the google mobile is a micro car it only measures 2.9 meters in length with very low weight and thus being powered by a tiny engine it began with the 250cc version and over time the 350 and 400cc engines were sold as well the engine was placed in the rear and the electric pre-selective transmission sent power to the rear wheels this little 4-seater could even return over 53 mpg so [Music] ready [Applause] detroit diesel 12v71 while the smaller 6 and 8 cylinder power plants were enough for small trucks the v12 was meant for heavy highway machinery military various types of watercraft and so on these engines were sold as naturally aspirated turbocharged or both turbocharged and intercooled although if this was a two-stroke diesel engine it could run clockwise or counterclockwise if properly adjusted foreign sub sonnet the subsonic was a beautiful front engine front wheel drive coupe produced for almost two decades during its first 15 years and two generations two short engines were used in a 750 and 850 cc capacity with the first version a 2000 example production run was planned but only six actually left the factory plus additional 258 two-stroke examples were made of the second gen sharing numerous parts with the 95 and 96 models it is a very rare automobile [Music] [Music] so [Music] melco's rs 1000 using the warborg 353's engine the rs 1000 was a mid-engine sports car built by the race driver heinz malkus in base pack it was giving out around 70 horsepower but with an upgraded carburetor the engine produced additional 20 horsepower malkus also tried his luck with the car in racing packing as much as 118 horsepower while it was capable of 210 kilometers per hour slash 130 miles per hour top speed only 101 of them were built all together room [Music] so so detroit diesel 6v92 the series 92 of the detroit diesel was a reborn version of the series 71. unlike the 71 the 92 was only manufactured in the v-ing configuration from 6 up to 16 cylinders the v6 and v8 were the most commonly used in particular in on highway vehicles such as trucks motorhomes fire trucks and so on it was also a major bus engine in north america in the 80s and 90s [Music] [Applause] saab 93 as in the case of the sonnet the 93 was one of the earliest models which featured a variation of the company's two-cycle freebanger the 93 was the second production model and the first one to be exported outside sweden primarily to the united states the engine was paired to a 3-speed transmission with a freewheel device this prevented the engine from all starvation during engine braking disconnecting it from the gearbox [Music] [Applause] so [Applause] me you
