there are some great restaurants at disney world and there are some that are you know less than great the food at these places doesn't wow us the prices are a little scary and we tend to leave feeling so why do so many people keep returning to these restaurants when there are so many other options on disney world property that are better time to put our thinking caps on and figure this out together [Music] hey everybody it's aj for disney food blog today we're going to be talking about the worst places everyone eats in disney world granted these restaurants whether they be quick service or signature dining locations may not be our personal favorites on property but they keep people coming back time and time again so we're gonna look at why we as well as so many others keep caving into the magnetic pull of these not so fantastic dining locations maybe we'll even come up with a few alternatives that'll help you stray from the same old places and find some new ones that'll become fresh favorites for you and your travel party starting out with one of my favorites you guys know i don't ever understand what anybody eats at this place sunset ranch market poor old sunset ranch market over in disney's hollywood studios now this is located on the sunset boulevard strip and we've really never liked it sunset ranch market is a collection of counter service restaurants rosie's all-american cafe often seen as one of the best of the bunch catalina eddies with a tex-mex leaning menu at the moment fairfax fair which is usually okay right now they've got a bunch of hot dogs anaheim produce a fresh fruit and mickey pretzel stand nothing wrong with that and hollywood scoops okay maybe this is the best of the bunch because who can turn down hand scooped ice cream now the meals here have never wowed us you're gonna find some standard options like cheeseburgers and chicken strips with the addition of some more innovative options in recent months like a surprisingly tasty plant-based lobster roll from rosie's all-american cafe and they've had some like fried green tomato sandwiches here before they had onion petals for a little bit but usually it's going to be you know hockey puck burgers and puffy pizza but eating at sunset ranch market can be miserable because of the atmosphere alone it is hot it is all outdoors so you're either gonna be in the middle of super super super super super hot orlando you're gonna be in the middle of pouring rain or it's going to be cold now there's really no relief from the orlando sun around this area they've got some umbrellas and some cover for the tables but there's no ac anywhere so you're just going to take the elements as they come while knocking on your chili cheese dog so why does seemingly everyone eat here well here's why convenience after you're done screaming your hat out on tower of terror or rock and roller coaster you're hungry right you went into hollywood studios in the morning you went right down sunset boulevard you rode those two rides and now it's time for lunch well sunset ranch market is right there it's the first thing you see and it's gonna give you that quick service food quickly now there aren't a lot of options available on the menu but the options are decent enough for picky eaters and again it's the first thing you see so if you're wanting a more adventurous selection of fast foods in hollywood studios you're gonna want to do your research consider trying ronto roasters over in star wars galaxy's edge instead or even docking base seven if you've just gotten off rock and roller coaster you're gonna have to walk a bit further than sunset ranch market sure but it'll be worth it at least we hope so we sure do like it ronto roasters has those famous ronto wraps made with roasted pork grilled pork sausage peppercorn sauce tangy slaw all wrapped up in a nice warm pita bread for 12.99 there's also a vegetarian ronta wrap made with grilled zucchini that depending on the day we sometimes love even more than the pork version but if you're not that adventurous take a stroll over to backlot express in the echo lake area of the park this is close to star tours and seems like an unassuming building but it's more than its front facade lets on backlot express has indoor seating with some fun backstage props to add atmosphere to the area but it also has those standard menu items that are great for picky eaters you're going to find something for everyone there and it's a lot better quality we think than you're going to find over at sunset ranch market it may not actually be better quality but you get to sit indoors in the air conditioning and that makes it better so the moral to this story don't just go to the first place you see watch dfb buy our books follow us on our newsletter and our vlog and our instagram so you know the places where you're gonna get good food and a good atmosphere that's not gonna cost too much money don't just go to the first place you see it breaks my heart every time i see a you know a family standing in line at sunset ranch market when it's just so hot and they're just sweating to death i just want to go up and say no no no go to backlot express you can sit indoors ac it's great honestly it's one of the main reasons i do this job is to keep people from going to sunset ranch market when they don't have to that sounds awful but it's true okay next thing we're going to talk about i think this is going to be a surprise for some of you but hear me out starbucks is this a hot take possibly all of the disney world parks have starbucks locations which is great sure but come on you probably have one back home so give starbucks a break for a second the starbucks locations in disney world are crowded you guys the lines take forever and a day sometimes the line's gonna take you longer to stand in then it's going to take you to ride a ride in disney world and the food is the same stuff you're going to get at home bagels breakfast sandwiches pastries this literally the same stuff like i can get the same cake pop that i can get in magic kingdom in my like grocery store at home because it's the same stuff it's just starbucks now you're going to want a unique drink and snack that's exclusive to the disney parks early is not something you have at home so maybe give joffrey's a chance now joffrey's locations are also located all throughout the parks and around disney world property most locations have coffee of course but some like the one in disney's animal kingdom over in the asia area specialize in teas and others like the location in disney springs close to the world of disney mega store specialize in smoothies now joffrey's is where you're going to get those giant donut king donuts that are truly truly delicious plus they've got some seasonal items too for epcot's food and wine festival the joffrey's locations in epcot feature exclusive festival offerings like you can get a coco cold brew over in future world east with decadent frozen kona mocha topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle plus you have the option to add jameson cold brew whiskey to this drink which kind of one-ups the standard starby's options just saying or you can get a cinnamon chai over the american adventure pavilion location need a little afternoon pick-me-up swing to the joffrey's location at the canada pavilion get the double trouble chai which sounds dangerous but we love it so moral of the story here joffrey's is gonna get you coffee they're gonna get you tea they're gonna get you giant donuts and pastries and you're not gonna have to stand in the line as long as peter pan's flight to get it so don't waste your time waiting in the starbucks line y'all get coffee someplace else okay next worst place everyone eats in disney world pizza rizzo short history lesson for you before it was pizza rizzo hollywood studios had pizza planet and pizza planet was infamous for having some of the most mediocre pizzas ever we're talking big pillowy pizzas that are mostly bread fine we'll eat it but we're going to be disappointed the whole time and when the restaurant switched over to pizza rizzo in 2016 we hoped the recipe would improve but it didn't same pillow pizzas the same ones that are made by that giant machine that mark summers showed us back in the kitchen that basically just like stamps out fast food pizzas and mass now so many people go here because it's pizza pizza is easy kids typically enjoy cheese or pepperoni pizza plus the theming is kind of fun the whole quick service location is based on rizzo the rat you know the little quirky guy from the muppets who tries to impersonate mickey mouse in the muppet vision pre-show now if you're not familiar with rizzo think remy from ratatouille but instead of owning a five-star dining experience in paris he's got a back alley pizza joint now if you don't know rizzo i need you to take some time right now and go like google rizza or maybe we'll just show you some clips of rizzo right now because he's super fun and he's a great character from the muppets so we'll wait while you watch some rizzo okay got it okay cool there are a lot of quirky details hidden throughout this location too meaning you're gonna find lots of silly puns very very muppet-esque play-on words that pay tribute to the muppet crew and rizzo's family after all this is a rap family owned establishment because of course it is that being said if you're looking for some better pizza options on your disney world vacation we've got em for you check and see if pizza el taglio is open over in epcot now this is a quick service version of a via napoli ristorante a pizzeria over in the italy pavilion it serves up these sicilian style pizza slices with those crisp cupped pepperonis that should be a requirement for all pizzas unfortunately pizza el taglio is seasonal we usually notice to open for business during busier park times but when it is open you can grab a pepperoni pizza for 8.50 or pizza margarita for 6.75 considering pizza rizzo's pizzas range from 9.99 to 10.99 per serving we'd recommend pizza el taglio for your pizza needs or if you've got the time to sit down enjoy a table service meal try hitting up via napoli they got unique pizza selections classy atmosphere and are open way more often than their quick service counterparts okay we've been saying the word pizza so much that it's starting to sound weird but also other options for you here disney world lounges often have flat breads flatbreads or pizzas and pretty much all lounges have them so if you need a place to eat with no advanced dining reservation choose one of those lounges all the hotels have them all the parks have them except for magic kingdom but they're gonna have flatbreads it's gonna be better pizza by the way if you are in magic kingdom go to pinocchio village house they got some decent flatbreads too pizza ponte in disney springs is also a good stop if you like those six sicilian style slices or swing by blaze pizza for completely customizable pizza options okay cinderella's royal table i know what you're thinking aj calling cinderella's royal table the worst place is harsh yes it is harsh viewer now the food here isn't the worst per se but it's pretty expensive for what you're getting and we're gonna walk you through this here why we're putting this in this video because you know we always say everyone's gotta go to cindy's once right everyone has to go at least once but it's probably gonna be a one-and-done for a lot of us so here's what you're getting cinderella's royal table is a signature dining restaurant in magic kingdom located inside cinderella castle awesome so already you can probably see why it's so popular you gotta go now the atmosphere is heavily inspired by baroque influences that give this restaurant the royal charm we're obsessed with it has these massive beautiful stained glass windows vaulted ceilings classy topiaries colorful flags everywhere you look you really do feel like royalty as soon as you step foot into the foyer now did we mention you're literally eating in the main icon of the disney world resort in that giant magic kingdom weenie because that feels super important to mention as many times as possible yeah we're not making this sound like the worst right but just wait till we start talking about those menu prices cinderella's royal table is a prefix menu featuring an appetizer main course and dessert you can pick from a few different main options such as the roasted all natural chicken breasts chef's fish of the day tenderloin of beef and the chickpea pennis and that's it that's the main menu the portions are pretty standard if not a bit on the small side but there's not a lot of choice so you pick one of those options plus an appetizer and a dessert and pay a whopping 62 dollars per adult that is super steep and that's actually a cheaper price than it usually is because cinderella's royal table is currently set at a discounted price in an attempt to make up for the limited experience currently cinderella herself is not coming table to table to meet and greet with guests rather kids can only wave to her from a distance for like a few seconds usually you see five or so princesses when you dine here they all come by your table for hugs and autographs right now it's just cindy for five seconds not only is cinderella unable to personally meet with guests but the usually interactive element of the meal the wishing star ceremony it's a pretty big deal is not taking place at this time either instead kiddos are given a pre-signed cinderella card to commemorate their time dining in the castle the prefix menu options for children three to nine cost 37 per kid and features main courses like beef tenderloin and chicken nuggets but let me tell you right now it is nothing to write home about and my kids appetizer was literally like half an apple cut up so to top it all off the whole experience feels rushed as well cinderella's royal table has a large turnover they want as many people as possible to pay those prices in one day so they're going to kind of give you your food and get you out of there as quickly as they can and that means you pay a lot of money to be there and then you blink and it's over that being said we always consider this a one-and-done experience we're not going to flat out tell you not to eat here because modified or not kids are still going to love going here many adults still love feeling like royalty for a small chunk of the afternoon the atmosphere is charming and creates lifelong memories for you and your travel party you can tell all the other moms in your mom's group that you went to cinderella's world table and be really really famous now we've actually got a full video breaking down the pros and cons of dining here to help you make the decision check that out next but if you've already eaten at cinderella's royal table and are looking for a different royal meet and greet dining experience for the future well consider dining over at treataria alforno over at disney's boardwalk inn here you'll meet characters like ariel and prince eric or rapunzel and flynn rider really the only character meal you get to see some princes besides prince charming at 1900 park fair this restaurant tends to get overlooked since it's outside the parks but it's right next to epcot's international gateway so you can be in the park in just a few minutes now the character meal here when it's here is just at breakfast and instead of an all-you-can-eat you choose an entree to go along with your basket of pastries to share with the table kind of just like breakfast at cinderella's royal table but the price tag is going to be significantly less if your next disney trip is coming up in the near future note that trataria alforno's character meet and greets are currently unavailable but you can still order many items from the former character meal a la carte we'll let you know as soon as we get the word when the character dining is gonna return to this location so you can choose that for your little prince and princess instead of cinderella's royal table akrasus also not currently open is another great princess meal you get to see a lot of the same characters you might meet at cinderella's royal table without such a huge price tag but you're still inside a park in this case epcot and you're still in a castle but if you want something with cinderella's royal table level of atmosphere and you're not dead set on meeting princesses be our guest restaurant also in magic kingdom is a great option the restaurants like stepping into beauty and the beast you can dine in one of the three rooms inside the beast's castle and you'll get to see him walking around all right number five cosmic rays starlight cafe now this is painful because i love this restaurant but when you think theme park food the options over cosmic ray starlight cafe and magic kingdom are the types of food you think of first sunset ranch market kind of thing hamburgers hot dogs chicken tenders the huge now the only standout item here is the cheshire cafe cattail for 5.49 this is a puff pastry twisted with chocolate and drizzled with pink and purple icing it's a nice fluffy afternoon sweet treat but it's not always available at this location now that the cheshire cafe official home of the cheshire cat tail has reopened we're going to be on the lookout for a new sweet reason to visit cosmic rays sorry we're just really passionate about the cheshire cattail apparently back on track now aside from the cheshire cattail snack the main menu options at cosmic rays leave something to be desired now the atmosphere here is also kind of blah when compared to the epic theming surrounding so many other disney world dining locations it feels kind of food courty without the food court options if that makes sense but i know you want me to talk about sunny eclipse and i will give me a second now so why do people eat here well people eat air because it's the catch-all of quick service locations it's huge so there's places for everybody to sit and if your travel party's having a hard time deciding on what they want to eat then cosmic rays is usually a safe fast food option that's not gonna break the bank as dull as the atmosphere may be it's just kind of like tomorrowland chic the building is huge it accommodates lots of guests you're almost always guaranteed a seat and there's air conditioning now let's not forget the one the only sunny eclipse i told you i was gonna talk about it sunny is an alien performer who brightens up this otherwise bland atmosphere with the musical stylings of his astro organ now if you are eating here then please take a minute to listen to sonny he's not only a very talented performer but he's got quite the intergalactic backstory to share if you're not into alien musicians you may want to head on over to another quick service location in tomorrowland tomorrowland terrace now what tomorrowland terrace also currently has is a menu full of seafood styled options like the lobster roll the fried fish platter the fried shrimp platter and the chicken breast nuggets but you may ask why does the menu of a space-themed fast food restaurant have so many seafood options because they're currently housing the options of columbia harbor house which is our favorite fast food restaurant in magic kingdom it's a quick service location over in liberty square and it's been unavailable since the parks closed now even though we missed the nautical stylings of columbia harbor house it's nice to see its menu options still available somewhere in the park even if it is in tomorrowland where you wouldn't expect so much seafood to be i don't know why is there not seafood in the future just doesn't feel right columbia harbor house will be reopening august 5th so we'll have to see if the menu at tomorrowland terrace changes now if you're over in tomorrowland and have to choose between two quick service locations first figure out where the cheshire cattail is then order that and eat lunch at tomorrowland terrace now the one thing wrong with tomorrowland terrace it's outdoors so you don't get that ac so if you need ac cosmic rays baby so you kind of got to choose between like comfortable or good food yeah all right next worst place everyone eats in disney world we are gonna talk about tony's town square restaurant tony tony tony what are we gonna do with you okay tony's town square restaurant is a table service dining location on main street usa with an italian inspired menu but when i say italian inspired i really mean like olive garden but a little bit less good than olive garden now i'm not knocking olive green i love olive garden but you might want something a little more going on if you're paying disney prices right so why does everyone seem to eat here well there are a few reasons first up it's not hard to get a reservation unlike cinderella's royal table where you'll have to make a reservation as soon as they become available to secure a seat for you and your group you can usually make reservations for tony's a few days out and still be able to snag a table also if you or someone in your travel party is a huge lady in the fan the decor here pays homage to that film through its fountain centerpiece wall decor bathroom entrances it's all about the dogs this is also a fancy-ish table service restaurant that can still appeal to kiddos so if you enjoy basic italian food like fettuccine alfredo spaghetti and meatballs chicken parm and want to eat a nice meal in the afternoon or evening then tony's town square makes sense for you to make a reservation for also tony's town square is the first thing you're going to see when you walk into magic kingdom it's the first restaurant you come across so if you walk in a magic kingdom and you're hungry people gonna go here however if you're not afraid of being a little more adventurous with your table service dining options you may want to try skipper canteen instead skipper is located in adventureland and is themed around the popular magic kingdom attraction the jungle cruise there's a whole backstory woven throughout the decor of this restaurant based around the society of explorers and adventurers which is a whole other topic that we're gonna have to save for a later date now the menu options here are just as adventurous as the restaurant's atmosphere steak with chorizo hash vegetable curry thai noodles marinated pork a whole fried fish and fried chicken make up the menu currently so as long as you aren't traveling with the world's pickiest eaters you'll be able to find something for everyone and don't forget the kungaloosh dessert the kungaloosh is an african-inspired chocolate cake with caramelized bananas served with cashew caramel ice cream and topped with coffee dust all for nine dollars it's not really that great but kungaloosh is famous of course as the exclamation we all say at the long lost adventurers club in pleasure island in downtown disney so if you have any sort of backstory with that or if you care about the past the kungaloosh dessert will be important for you okay number seven on our list of the worst places everyone eats in disney world san angel san angel however you want me to say it restaurant in restaurants san angel inn restaurante there are three different san angel dining options in epcot's mexico pavilion san angel in restaurante is the dining option located inside the mexico pyramid and it's the location we like the least but it's the one most people are gonna go to now the food is very inconsistent at this restaurant sometimes we go and think wow this place has really turned itself around and then we'll go again and the portions will be smaller and the prices will be hiked to high heaven or the steak will be overcooked or the side dishes will be bland honestly the quick service restaurant outside the mexico pyramid cantina de san and hill has more consistent quality with this fast food mexican cuisine for almost half the cost so not to jump the gun or anything but we'd probably recommend eating a cantina over the sand and hell in restaurante if you're looking to satisfy your taco or quesadilla cravings but even guests who know that the quality of the food is inconsistent at stan and hell in restaurante still find themselves eating there nonetheless why because the atmosphere is gorgeous i mean can we just take a moment and appreciate that view the dimly lit riverside the candlelit tables the blue lit mexico pyramid the atmosphere is romantic breathtaking peaceful we love how this quiet setting gives you a break away from the hustle and bustle of the park so if you just want a break from the park and don't mind paying the price for food that could be just okay depending on the day then by all means book a table one of our favorite things to order here is the signature sand and hell inn margarita for 22 dollars just be warned the marks here are tasty but they're also super strong because that's one thing that all the mexico restaurants do right in disney world tequila now if you want to sit down mexican dinner we've had great experiences at the third stand in hell hacienda this one is right on the water of world showcase lagoon making it a great reservation to grab come fireworks time if you're able to secure a window seat both restaurants are owned and operated by the same restaurant group but there seems to be a little more authenticity and care put into the menu at hacienda it is a little more upscale a bit more expensive but we've had better meals here across the board okay number eight bless your heart rainforest cafe there are two places you can eat at the rainforest cafe on disney world property one is over at disney springs you can't miss it it's got the active volcano that goes off every 30 minutes and the other is at disney's animal kingdom right before you enter the park both of them are pricey maybe the prices could be justifiable if the food was more memorable but even the fried cheese didn't impress us here the mozzarella appetizer tastes like the kind you'd find in a box at the grocery store and pop in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees totally not reading that off a mozzarella stick box i currently have in my freezer btw now rainforest cafe has a similar symptom to starbucks it's a chain restaurant no it's not as prominent as starby's but rainforest cafe is not disneyworld exclusive so you're not really getting a unique disney dining experience here that being said it's a ton of fun for the kids around the restaurant you're not only going to find yourself immersed in a rain forest but you're also going to be surrounded by tons of animatronic animals we're talking elephants gorillas lions even a boa constrictor dangling from the ceiling that kind of freaks us out lightning storms rattle the restaurant every so often during your meal and cause all the animatronic animals to go berserk like we said ton of fun we can't blame you for at least trying this place out once even if the food can be subpar and pricey we can say the same thing about t-rex cafe which is also located in disney springs and owned by the same company that runs rainforest the big difference there t-rex is for the dino lovers in your travel party but you're probably not gonna leave raving about how good the food was if you're looking for a table service restaurant that's just as entertaining as it is tasty then consider booking a reservation over at 50s primetime cafe in disney's hollywood studios or sci-fi dinan at disney's hollywood studios these are going to have all of the atmosphere and actually more atmosphere but they're also going to have decent food is it the best food no but it is a lot better than t-rex and rainforest cafe hearty meal and entertainment we call that a win-win number nine we are gonna talk about planet hollywood rarely did we ever hear rave reviews about planet hollywood over in the west side of disney springs it's so frustrating because the food always comes out looking like it should be a fun time like the high roller sampler that comes out in a ferris wheel contraption or the world famous chicken crunch appetizers that come out in a red wire basket shaved like a chicken like that's a fun time we love to see it but the food is all bark with unimpressive bites it's also loud in this restaurant when our reporters go out to taste test items for us here they can barely have a conversation at their own table without shouting over the noise because the music is popping so much so you can barely hear yourself think but like other restaurant options we've already talked about today planet hollywood knows how to nail the atmosphere this old-fashioned observatory is filled with movie memorabilia we want to walk through the restaurant as if it were a museum because there's movie trivia actual movie props around every nook and cranny of this place but we've got a level with you here in our experience the museum of movie memorabilia is not worth the cost of the food and it's also not worth eating off of dirty plates which i actually had to do there once there are so many other options for you to choose from at disney springs you guys it is a veritable treasure trove of awesome awesome food in disney springs raglan rhodes irish entrees boathouse nautical cuisine don't sell yourself short just because the observatory looks neato in this case looks can be deceiving so there you have it the worst places that everyone eats in disney world a lot of these places have a similar theme going on the food is okay but convenience or atmosphere takes precedence over quality but you don't have to settle for mediocre food on disney world property you can still find quick service locations that provide the same speedy service with better options or you can find some fun themed atmosphere and storytelling at restaurants with again better food the choice is up to you but if you're looking for further guidance and recommendations you can always pick up our 2021 dfb guide which is filled with
