finally at long last we have the ever iconic illuminati group making their mcu debut with dr strange in the multiverse of madness composed of great minds like mr fantastic iron man and professor x as well as other influential figureheads like black bolt and namor this group has been influencing important marvel events in the comics dating back to at least the 70s they are a secret think tank meant to discuss major problems in private and find their solution before things get worse only called upon by iron man in dire straits the group would end up involved in incidents like for example blasting hulk into space and the destruction of the infinity gems the illuminati serve as a small decision-making group being so secretive that the meetings are kept even from family and friends not to mention the original lineup which changes throughout their history is bizarre to say the least admittedly their publication history is a bit of a doozy but today we're going to be taking a closer look at who exactly the illuminati are the first iteration of the group involves iron man doctor strange mr fantastic professor x black bolt and namor however the roster as stated before changes a bit in the comics past members have been iconic heroes like captain america black panther the hulk and beast if only to name a few writer brian michael bendis explains that each character represents something iconic from the marvel universe neymar represents the atlanteans iron man is the analog for the common man mr fantastic portrays the science-based part of superheroism black bolt like neymar as well represents the inhumans doctor strange is the symbol for the mystical and magical side of superheroes and finally professor x represents the mutant side of superheroism besides this the group was inspired by closed door meetings that happened in real life they're meant to be a half secret organization half super powered hero group in total the illuminati represent different walks of life within marvel different interests that collide together pre-history and beginning lore the illuminati is first proposed by iron man because he believes that a central unified group could have stopped the cree scroll war however instead of a small secret group iron man originally intended for the superpower team to encompass all of super heroism immediately namor is opposed to the idea citing the violent pass of several superheroes it is then proposed that they meet quietly and secretly without even notifying fellow heroes or their own families those in attendance all agree to this save for black panther who urges his fellow heroes to walk away his reasoning is he believed that the group can disagree on something and split it's important to know that this very meeting to discuss the possibility of the illuminati is held on black panther's land of wakanda which later serves as their meeting place with black panther having finally joined them regardless of black panther leaving the heroes and attendance decide to erect the secret group later known as the illuminati and surely they go on to impact not only the superhero world but the very multiverse itself although it certainly raised the question as to whether or not the illuminati was needed in the first place whether or not they did more harm than good especially considering multiple earths eventually fall into their paths in fact their next order of business involves neutralizing the scroll threat a rather impulsive act that goes on to haunt the group later affecting not only them but the very secrets they hold that being said namor is unfazed if not delighted by it at the time while mr fantastic refers to it as we did what we had to do we don't enjoy it it of course being black bolt using the power of his voice who practically blow up a scroll ship but their getaway is interrupted by the skrull who take the illuminati hostage which leads to torturous experiments such as breaking down professor x's dna while he is still alive and removing iron man suit which keeps tony's heart valves working surprisingly iron man is able to break his fellow peers out which is a feat considering iron man's injuries at the time the sequence itself is action packed with iron man's heart almost giving out an outer space shootout and doctor strange plus professor rex using their ability to fool the skrull escaping home later on professor x makes a startling revelation that he brings to the illuminati they meet in the inhuman city where professor x details his belief that the beyonder a cosmic entity that forced people from earth onto a battle world in order to fight to the death was not only an inhuman but also a mutant and this comes as a surprise to the group it wasn't believed that a mutant could be an inhuman now what do they plan to do the answer is simple bring black bolt along to the planetoid series as an inhuman the beyonder will beg for forgiveness from black bolt this is due to the fact that he is seen as a king to the inhumans oddly enough the only person not present is iron man who mr fantastic hasn't heard from in some time once they arrive at the beyonder's location they notice he has created a replica manhattan including replica spider-man luke cage and iron fist the beyonder bizarrely interacts with the puppets he has created at least until he notices the illuminati they break the news to the beyonder that he is not only inhuman but mutant as well and that his very existence upsets the natural order this confuses him naturally but his puzzlement dissolves into a frantic display of what the bianna believes to be their wildest dreams one such event is namor's own people attempting to claim the surface world of course none of this is real black bolt threw neymar commands he biana to stop to lead the universe and never return and he does so his previous form now winding away into dust but there is eventually trouble in paradise iron man is informed by maria hill of the destruction caused by the hulk in las vegas originally iron man rebuffs her he tells her that bruce banner cannot control it maria then tells iron man that she is doing everything she can to stop the hulk but is he she further brings home her point stating capitol hill could use this in action against the heroes iron man then calls an illuminati meeting which holds all the og members saved for professor x during which namor is immediately opposed to the idea of sending hulk into space it's not because he has an allegiance with hulk or values him as a fellow hero simply namor is greatly disgusted by the fact that they would send someone they work so closely with someone they consider a friend into space as if they are abandoning him he even takes shots at both iron man and mr fantastic regarding the issue of course his unwarranted criticism spurs mr fantastic to argue back the group assembled from iron man to dr strange has done practically everything within their power to help bruce banner doctor strange himself chimes in mentioning the time he sent hulk to the crossroads neymar's own anger over this boils over and he attacks iron man which leads to a brief underwater tussle doctor strange breaks him up but namor is still adamant that he won't have any part in his plan and leaves it was something he was so against that even voted against it previously iron man's plan is then explained in greater detail the hulk will only listen to someone familiar like nick fury unfortunately fury is gone therefore shield has been using a life model decoy of fury which iron man plans to use to coax a hulk up to a satellite that is malfunctioning the ai aboard would distract hulk while he is sent far far away into space where he won't be hurt nor will he hurt others so yeah they pretty much trick the hulk onto a shuttle and then gave the guy a whole lot of space and as you might imagine sending a big angry giant into the vacuum of space doesn't end very well this action radicalizes the hulk against them but creates an almost second battle world scenario ultimately the illuminati does meet once more and neymar is even invited they meet to discuss the iconic and later disastrous superhero registration act for context this act would require heroes to register with the federal government essentially becoming employees of shield they would have someone to answer to iron man believes a group should come out in favor of it suggesting that they cooperate so no one is made an example of namor mocks him for this telling the armored hero that he is simply bow into the powers that be yet again neymar proves to be a spot of rebellion within a group and later on he'll even refuse to offer help he also references the idea that this act would get rid of them the same way they stopped the hulk it is a dire situation iron man himself details what he believes will happen if they don't support the act a young hero will do something that does more harm than good that would be either recorded or seen on tv which would eventually lead to civil unrest considering relations between the public and superheroes hasn't been great recently because of this hero society would rupture into separate parts which would lead to an eventual civil war and although not surprising namor walks out telling iron man that this is a surface world problem meanwhile doctor strange also departs and says to never contact him again unlike namor who isn't interested in what he deems a surface world issue doctor strangely is because he is disgusted by what iron man is proposing even black bolt disagrees the only member of the illuminati to agree with iron man is mr fantastic himself however mr fantastic does comment that this will all lead to a fight with his wife which is understandable iron man is asking a really big thing of the heroes gathered especially considering that meetings are all but secret and as such the illuminati is seemingly dissolved once more i mean honestly this group breaks up more than high schoolers however this idea ultimately is not foolproof as we all know a civil war still isn't avoided despite illuminati interference several months later mr fantastic comes into possession of the power gem a part of the infinity gems and he brings this insanely powerful item to an illuminati meeting this would prove to lead to several mishaps with one triggering the actual shattering of the infinity gems mr fantastic suggests they quietly look for the other five gems and you know whenever an entity seeks them out whether that is thanos or otherwise the result is always catastrophic not only that but mr fantastic also reveals that he has two other infinity gems as well as the infinity gauntlet in his solo trek for these three gems mr fantastic explains that they communicate with one another which is why he was able to find the other two considering the first gem the power gem was given to him this is a very very big task that he presents the illuminati as always namor is critical of this reminding mr fantastic they have defused two situations thus far involving the gems regardless mr fantastic has a personal reason for wanting to collect the gems last time the gems were used he was snapped out of existence his desire is a combination of self-preservation and the hope that this happens to no one else that being said mr fantastic uses the gauntlet to see where the other gems are the mind gem is wedged into something known as the collective unconscious the reality gem is at the very edge of reality as they know it and finally the time gem is adrift in time mr fantastic believes he can get this gem once he has the power of the others interestingly despite introducing this as a group mission something to benefit them all mr fantastic uses an i statement once i get control of the other infinity gems i can use them to reach a time gem iron man notices this points it out and mr fantastic corrects himself but simply it just goes to show that despite operating as a group the illuminati there is still some residual individuality regardless this leads neymar professor x and doctor strange to travel into the collective unconscious of the universe once there in a landscape not unlike the past realm of attack on titan professor x realizes the mind gem is not inside the collective unconscious it is the collective unconscious the landscape is massive with a crystal lake underneath them professor x also works out the landscape is only massive and all-encompassing because they themselves believed it to be so therefore perception becomes reality in such a way that namor believes he was a reason this gigantic monster sea creature was summoned beneath the group meanwhile iron man mr fantastic and black bolt utilize the power of black bolt's voice in order to rip a hole in reality which iron man so bravely sticks his hand into unfortunately for him the reality gem begins to literally disintegrate his arm despite iron man wearing his armor in desperation in panic mr fantastic puts on the infinity gauntlet he uses the gem stored on it minus the mind gem and time gem to return iron man to his fully intact form might we add the force of using the gauntlet is enough to shake the baxter building once all the other gems are brought together they bring forth the time gem yet despite other members protests mr fantastic does not remove the gauntlet iron man pleads him too while namor threatens to take it from him even if he dies but before any real violence or separation can happen the watcher appears he chastises the group saying that he expected more especially for mr fantastic but mr fantastic himself is able to come up with a plan for the gems and the corrupting power they hold he splits them among the illuminati members they are to hide their gem protected from everyone including their own fellow illuminati members mr fantastic believes this is the only way to keep them safe but the watcher fears what will happen once the illuminati are revealed to have the gems another illuminati meeting is held this time to discuss marvel boy otherwise known as nohar he is from the cree home world and has a serious grudge against humanity declaring war on them thankfully he is currently imprisoned however there is not only fear he will escape but that his very imprisonment will upset the scroll once more perhaps even into attacking earth again through professor x's mutant power the illuminati show marvel boy several things the inhumans were created by the creed to protect not destroy besides that black bolt leader of the inhumans is of cree descent declaring war on earth is also declaring war on black bolt a fellow cree mr fantastic shows him a memory of captain marvel another fellow cree someone who protected humanity someone who mr fantastic holds in high regard he shows marvel boy this in hopes of the selfless nature of captain marvel will change marvel boy's warmongering ways even iron man chimes in telling marvel boy that on some level he relates to him but he also tells young cree that he can go a different route he can become a hero ultimately they tell marvel boy to get himself out of his own imprisonment which leaves him with a lot to think about their next meeting involves a discussion of several topics the new avengers group that was recently put together the prison break orchestrated by the savage land mutants and century's involvement with the new avengers century being someone who comes greatly into play later with the reappearance of hulk himself no one in attendance knows who century is but mr fantastic has sent daredevil to the ref prison in order to look into his case yet surprisingly this is something mr fantastic does not remember doing he even says he hasn't spoken to daredevil in months his data pad though shows many entries about the century the bizarre nature of it all is why professor x suggests that someone may be tampering with mr fantastic's brain this is an interesting point considering the only records of the century are comic books not retellings of this entry but merely fantastical fictional stories about the hero this entry otherwise known as robert reynolds has a very distraught reaction to this and the news that his wife isn't dead these revelations are enough for him to teleport away only to be found once again by the illuminati and other superhero forces it all is still not well century breaks down crying that now the void will come the heroes are then suddenly attacked the force of which crumbles cement and sends them flying they battle these inky black tendrils which are revealed to be caused by the void a giant flame-like monstrosity the heroes plan to stop the void with robert reynolds help of course this plan means a barrier has to be erected in the fight which is a collaborative effort between susan storm doctor strange and iron man but plot twist the void is caused by the very power the century has he even laments that it may be a punishment perhaps even his faulty memory is a result of his own design in fact other heroes have memories of the century they're just locked away the same way robert reynolds memories of being the century are an entire flood of the century is locked away repressed however emma frost manages to get into the century's mind and plans to find exactly where century lost his marbles through his memories emma frost finds something interesting something that is blacked out on the wall of memories clearly it is meant to stay hidden emma frost uncovers it which leads to a flashback of jason weingrade otherwise known as mastermind using his power mastermind causes the sentry to not only forget who he is but erase everyone else's memory of him as well all while implanting the belief within century that by using his powers he will cause the world to be attacked once more sentry flees in fear emma frosten brings in the century's wife linda in order to get sentry out of hiding via a shared memory between the two this coaxes him back into some semblance of sanity and back into reality not only this but century is offered residency as an avenger emma frost unlocks his powers and memories afterwards the illuminati discussed what happened as well as the rumblings mr fantastic heard regarding shield plus it is reinforced that the avengers will oversee century and from there we move on to post-civil war hulk versus the illuminati one shot into space hulk grows impossibly angry with the illuminati sultan is rubbed further into this wound because he does eventually land on a planet the savage world is a car where he had to fight for his very life yet the aliens attacking him were nothing to hulk in comparison to the illuminati granted sending a green massive tank of a man into space isn't the brightest ideas his reappearance will go on to not only cause the almost destruction of manhattan but the unleashing of century's true power as well his first order of business fight black bolt and then use a hologram of himself to broadcast or expose really the illuminati and what they did it's a display that stops everyone dead in their tracks hulk explains not only was he sent into space he landed on a planet that forced him to fight for entertainment as a gladiator he goes on to say that because a bomb destroyed the planet he eventually ruled over it's only right for the hulk to destroy this city granted he does tell the populace they have time to evacuate the hulk also demands the rest of the illuminati be presented to him otherwise he will destroy the entire planet he even shows he now battered and bloodied black bolt as an example of what he can do this of course is terrifying considering just a whisper from black bolts can hold so much power but the anger of the hulk is not to be trifled with after attempting to regain control of satellites iron man is met by a spectral doctor strange who offers his help but more importantly tells iron man that each illuminati member must prepare for the worst originally iron man had asked if doctor strange could send hulk away again with his magic however doctor strange rebuffs this saying that eating hulk is why they're in this problem to begin with both iron man and mr fantastic then employ the help of century he's able to calm down the hulk but century is still apprehensive due to previous issues with the void not to mention when the void appeared it also attacked hulk regardless though century does agree to lend a hand meanwhile she hulk miss marvel and luke cage among several others prepare to enter setalk alongside iron man the other heroes gathered are meant to keep the battlefield clear for iron man in a new insanely decked out suit to take on the hulk alone he begins to fight hulk their clash powerful enough to literally shatter windows of a rather large building iron man goes on to say that this entire debacle was his fault but regardless he will do everything in his power to protect the people now what exactly is his plan if even the strongest inhuman someone spider-man refers to as the second strongest person in the galaxy fell to hulk injecting nanobots into the hulk to suppress his powers followed by a missile which does not stop the hulk it simply brings him back to when his planet was bombed to when his wife died and understandably this only enriches him further he sends iron man into stark tower and begins to beat on him barbarically the hulk is so overcome with rage that he is the ghost the very antithesis of bruce banner at this point meanwhile iron fist reports he damages to iron man to dr strange he pleased with strange to use his magic and send the hulk away but like iron man doctor strange believes that because this was part of his doing he must be part of its undoing echo suggests killing the hulk however despite the monster hulk has become doctor strange refuses instead he begins to incite a powerful incantation back of the active battlefield other members of hulk's war bound finally arrive they suggest the heroes speak their true names and then swear their allegiance to hulk the green king of sakhar at first she-hulk tries to speak some sense into the hulk they are after all cousins but unfortunately the hulk is determined to stay on the warpath he refuses and even slams her into the concrete this causes the other heroes gathered to engage in combat with the hulk and his war bound with fighting underway mr fantastic along with the fantastic four storm and black panther work together to try and stop the hulk as well the fight between the two groups is practically one-sided even with a powerful combination blast of the human torch's flame and storms thunder hulk still stands the heroes attempt to calm hold down with a pseudo-sentry but the illusion does not work and it only serves to further hulk's rampage after not only severely beating mr fantastic and wounding the other fantastic four members the invisible woman finally calls century she asks for his help only the real century can calm her down which would stop all of this having defeated not only the heroes of iron man but the fantastic four as well hulk is met with rick jones he tries to reason with the green giant sadly just as it appears he might be making leeway doctor strange tries to infiltrate hulk's mind like everything else thus far this action plunges hulk into more anger the escalation is not on the menu though as the military also makes an appearance hulk is blasted with a barrage from helicopters all while rick jones begs them to stop that this will only lead to hulk evolving more into his rage although this fight allows doctor strange to finally slip into the hulk's mind strange offers sympathy saying he is still hulk's friend and that he only wants to help him it seemingly calms the hulk within this mindscape they share he reverts back into bruce banner there is a sense that doctor strange is finally getting through the hulk but ultimately it was a ruse to get dr strange to appear physically and not by way of a spectral form hulk takes the opportunity to smash strange's hands and then comes back into reality he begins to destroy the tanks that were shooting at him as keep in mind these are not just helicopters there are ground combatants of the military as well while hulk continues his violent rampage of the city the president appeals personally to century it is difficult to bring him into this the man is not only agoraphobic but suffers from mental issues as well this cry for help seems to be their only option regardless back in the city of manhattan hulk is preparing an arena one of his fellow war-bound korg suggests they stop the humans here already know they're monsters there's no point in continuing now however hulk merely tells him to never stop making them pay the war bound arrives at doctor strange's abode attempting to locate him while there is a reveal of the captured illuminati save for neymar who refused to send hulk into space have been implanted with obedience discs the same technology that subdued the war bound and hulk on sakhar in an act of desperation doctor strange summons a demon zom having assumed this power strange is able to easily knock out the shadow priest sent to retrieve him dr strange seemingly loses control something that even the war bound comment on in fact strange himself drives his own mystical hand through hulk and then continues to ferociously beat on him the destruction of this causes rubble to almost crush his civilians who stayed behind to cheer hulk on it's a bizarre scene considering it was hulk just moments ago that was causing damage now it is a zom-infused doctor strange their roles have seemingly reversed hulk was the one protecting the people from falling rubble the two heroes fight during which rick jones shows up once more he says that saving the civilians was something bruce banner would have done something that isn't the war breaker title hulk is throwing around but regardless hulk still follows through with his gladiator plans every hero captured has an obedience disc and they are all gathered in an arena yet before their unwanted fight begins several civilians take the stage and detail what wrongs the illuminati have done from black bull's people declaring war to doctor strange going mad with the demonic force of zom whether or not they meant to hurt these people it still happened in fact they're proxies of events that occurred like others they are also victims after explaining this the arena opens up for gladiatorial combat both iron man and doctor strange are sitting ducks in this strange's hands are broken so he cannot use spells meanwhile iron man is unable to summon his armor due to the disc black bolt manages to kill the gigantic monster before them but hulk unleashes another horror they are to fight to the death with weapons it is frightening to know that these are hulk's peers people he has fought with and know personally and yet his experience as a car has tainted him in such a way that he feels as if he must make them relive the same nightmare he did with the obedience disc controlling them the heroes are left with no other choice but to fight one another the horrible display is enough for cork to once again suggest they stop but at long last the sentry sets off to finally stop the hulk before century arrives hulk himself stops ms fantastic from almost murdering iron man he says that they came for justice not to kill anyone they won't kill anyone instead the whole world will be aware of their crimes of what they did however hulk does mention the war bound will burn the city to the ground yet just as he says this as if it's poetic justice century shows up he tackles hulk the power he's using is enough to cause destruction through these several buildings they pass through in fact century's energy level engulfed the area around them as a fight during this almost catastrophic fight the war bound tried to help hulk and protect the heroes they literally enslaved moments ago their reasoning they won't watch another planet die like this back with hulk he continues to take quite the beating from a maxed out almost out of control century fyi he has the power of a thousand exploding sons is quite possibly the most powerful person in the universe and he is no longer holding back before both are mutually destroyed by satellites he too transformed back into their civilian personas bruce banner and robert reynolds meek cannot stand this he attempts to bring back the hulk however rick jones intercepts him taking a spear through the chest of course this causes bruce banner to fly into a rage transforming into the hulk once again he begins to beat meek very savagely all the while his other war bound tried to stop him while on the ground most likely bleeding out meek tells the hulk that he was the one who blew up the planet killing so many including hulk's wife and unborn child meek acts as if he did it for the benefit of the hulk for the benefit of the world breaker hulk then practically implodes he gets so angry that his very footsteps cause massive fissures on concrete not only that but his power is enough to threaten the eastern seaboard though thankfully iron man is able to use the satellites above them to negate hulk's power thereby reverting him back to bruce banner and finally closing the chapter of hulk's disastrous rage after both the events of world war hulk and the civil war iron man calls an illuminati meeting once more iron man tells him of a dead squirrel dressed as elektra and posing as her in japan iron man's own resources are unable to find the real elektra and he blames what they did to a scroll ship previously this undercover skrull who they couldn't detect is perhaps a result of their actions within the previous year being a man of science mr fantastic immediately suggests an autopsy while namor questions iron man's belief that this may be a war but in a surprise twist black bolt is unveiled to be none other than a skrull he confirms iron man's worst belief the world is no longer their own a fight breaks out and mr fantastic instructs iron man to take the scroll body and leave the scroll before them only wants the imposter electro body so it must be valuable they manage to kill the invader but alas more skrulls show up it appears as if their fear of another scroll invasion is a very real possibility after iron man is able to repel these squirrel invaders they discuss the fact that this was not an assassination this was a tactic meant for the illuminati to doubt one another as in fact they have no real idea how long this scroll was posing as black bolt furthermore professor x comments these squirrels thoughts were like black bolts he had no reason to believe the imposter was not the infamous inhuman king the squirrel's plan seems to work the illuminati itself is based on trust they meet in secret and hide even from their own families and yet a crazy very real scenario that they can no longer trust even each other as in typical namor fashion he flies off her marking i don't trust any of you a sentiment which is shared amongst a group not surprising but the illuminati break off once more and once again a meeting is called by iron man however due to the whole scroll posing as black bull thing medusa black bolt's wife shows up in his place iron man called the illuminati in relation to the infinity gems they had previously split among their members yet again the gems proved to be possibly more than the group can handle especially later on that being said mr fantastic's gem was stolen and red hulk detailed a fight he had with someone in death valley who was carrying a red gem if the person he fought wasn't some super villain red hulk remarks that they lacked ability in hand-to-hand combat regardless he knew to inform the heroes because this person still kicked his ass knowing that due to black bull's death his gem could also be stolen the group head to black bolt's former city interestingly enough they are intercepted by captain america and other heroes cap demands to know what's going on and at first iron man tries to divert he asks if they can talk privately captain america only pushes further so iron man tells him that the illuminati have been meeting in secret since he scrolled pre-war enraged by this captain america chews into iron man not only was his secret kept among such a small group it was such an important secret that someone found out and took advantage of it plus two infinity gems are now missing nonetheless captain america puts aside his anger to focus on the fact the power and reality gems are now lost to them and may reach out to the other gems obviously this would mean whoever took the gems could very well find the rest of them that being said iron man isn't completely off the hook captain america insists the meeting stop after this is solved in his own words you pay for your sins tony it is agreed that they will find the rest of the infinity gems in order to beat their mysterious saboteur to them but also to use them to fight this powerful person if it comes down to that however captain america remarks that afterwards they put the gems back where they were but a week before convinced by money a guard presumably gets parker robbins otherwise known as hood out of the raft then in present time he meets up with madam mask with the power of the reality gem he takes away her scars hood also tells madam the other gems call out to him instructing him on what to do next clearly just by possessing two gems hood is being heavily influenced by their corrupting nature namor red hulk and thor go down into the very depths of the ocean world the pressure down there is comparable to solid earth there is also untold sea monsters the likes of which he trio briefly tangle with it is in this dense sea monster infested zone that holds neymar's infinity gem on earth professor rex along with the other x-men and maria hill arrived at the destroyed school for gifted youngsters in order to obtain his gem there professor x has a program meant to keep an invader from gaining the gem because of this the heroes gathered must fight several ghosts of their past one including scarlet witch also on earth iron man plus a thing captain america hawkeye and some other heroes venture to area 51 iron man owns it and presumably has kept his gem here iron man also asserts himself to captain america once more taking up the mantle of a hero requires an ego and it was this very ego that led to the illuminati taking the infinity gems to begin with which is something iron man still views as the right thing to do but the heroes are simply too late just as they arrive hood is seen taking iron man's infinity gem hood causes them to disappear before they can even fight him and ask the gems where to go next he then transports to namor thor and red hulk's location thor has neymar's gem in his hand which cannot spell good news for their encounter granted yes it's three on one but hood is already in possession of several gems the trio engage in combat with hood however he is able to easily push them his own abilities nor is he aware of the history or turmoil the gems have brought the watcher goes as far as to call hood a fool and naive most likely because hood is ignorantly true power he wields regardless both red hulk and thor still hold infinity gems so perhaps a more fair fight that being said iron man's group was transported to the deserts of new mexico violently the group was thrown against rocks with such force that iron man believes some of them to be dead before hood can be stopped he disappears leaving the heroes with two gems and hood with two as well spider-man comments on the fact that the watcher is present and nothing good can happen when the watcher is around and this only seems to magnify the dire straits before them a power hungry inexperienced criminal has two infinity gems which they literally stole while the heroes themselves are at a disadvantage nonetheless a result to help the others obtain the gems at the same time professor x and company find themselves face to face with hood who has now taken professor x's gem putting him back at three as the saying goes desperate times call for desperate measures so professor x attempts to get into hood's mind for the sake of influencing his actions what very clearly goes against the very rules professor rex set for himself yet hood fights back without even knowing it due to the mind gem hood defeasing heroes gathered and then sets out to the final gem the gem dr strange hid this infinity gem is in the actual plane wrapped up in a containment spell the location is so niche that only strange knew where it was but the gems continue to call out to one another which leads hood to its very location unfortunately for him thanos beat him to it now in possession of the soul gem these stakes have been risen further especially considering unlike hood thanos knows exactly how to use the gems thanos offers to give hood whatever reality he desires in exchange for the gems as arrogant as he is hood refuses to this thanos mentions that not only has a human not held all six gems they haven't worn the infinity gauntlet either but as mr fantastic has proven earlier this is untrue perhaps to further dissuade him thanos says that hood will cease to exist which comes off more as a threat than anything else thanos goes on to state that unlike hood he was born created to wield the infinity gems and that he'd offer hood the world his alliance for them however this thanos is projected and proven to be an illusion by none other than doctor strange to get the gems from hood the heroes must fight him luckily for them red hulk holds the power gem which significantly increases his strength despite getting punched by red hulk hood still has the reality gem any gem held by hood is bad news but the reality gem especially so considering it can change the very laws of their reality and like a scared animal back into a corner hood begins to warp through reality around them there are different flashes of several urges scattered across a multiverse one such earth being the planet marvel zombies takes place on thankfully iron man puts on the infinity gauntlet which wills the reality gem to it he does two things with the power of the gauntlet first he puts hood back in his cell in the raft as for the second thing he wishes both the gauntlet and the gems out of existence something that dr strange mentions he would have advised against but we all know wishing the gauntlet and the gems away is simply something that cannot be done instead the infinity gems are once more divided amongst the illuminati captain america also takes a gem having formally joined the group in place of black bolt now many years ago when the illuminati was first proposed by iron man only one person in attendance refused to join black panther during a test for possible candidates who entered the wakanda space program black panther experiences something crazy enough for him to change his original stance on the illuminati something known as an incursion an event caused by two universes colliding their earth's meant as a point of collision unfortunately this causes apocalyptic ramifications in the timeline meaning a domino effect of urge being destroyed an entire universe is wiped out however there is a bit of silver lining an incursion can be detected possibly even avoided if one of the urges blown up before the point of collision and this is exactly what black swan a mysterious woman black panther to custody of did preventing the illuminati's earth from being destroyed as well regardless there is a time frame to save the multiverse an incursion only lasts 8 hours meaning the illuminati will be under a hefty time crunch should not only save themselves but the very universe is at hand this very apocalyptic scenario is why black panther calls for a meeting it affects not only him but the entire multiverse including black bolt who was actually held captive by the squirrel empire with a scroll impersonating him during secret wars in humans number three now this illuminati meeting as they tend to be was not without its issues it is marred by the relations between namor and black panther both of their nations are at war with one another and black panthers left vengeful enough by it to promise that he will kill namor after this is all solved nevertheless destroying another earth is a grave grave possibility iron man himself does not deter from the idea but captain america adamantly disagrees he believes the illuminati could use her infinity gems to stop an incursion the other members agreed to try this but it is clear that both mr fantastic and black panther think it may come down to obliterating another earth the task of getting the now deceased professor x's mind gem falls on namor black bolt and captain america during which they come face to face with another familiar hero beast unlocks a hidden memory from professor x something meant to only trigger once the professor dies just as he discovers the mind gem name war black bolt and captain america appear one day later beast finds himself in wakanda there mr fantastic implants him with a chip it not only acts as a communication device albeit limited to commands like run assemble fight etc but also has a homing beacon and an early warning system for the possible incursion professor x in his passing meant for beast to take his place however the mutant is still unaware of his place within the group that aside the illuminati goes on to face several incursions from destroying an empty earth fighting and then ending an alternate earth that is not empty to finally creating a lifeboat meant as a last-ditch attempt to avoid the catastrophic destruction of the multiverse not to mention building weapons meant to obliterate other urge for their own self-preservation however the incursions themselves are such a hefty bit of comic lore that they deserve an entire video themselves so we'll talk about the first one the first one which implemented and ultimately broke the infinity gauntlet they agree captain america should be the one to wield it and he does he pushes away the other earth but as we all know using the infinity gems is not without consequence all of the infinity gems saved for the time gem shatter no gems no gauntlet and none of the members are really sure why it happened regardless namor punches captain america out of anger yelling that captain america has killed us all tensions only continue to rise captain america refuses to bend his ideals to allow even discussion about destroying other earths he tries to employ the support of black panther but even the wakandan hero sides of the illuminati the group coldly erases captain america's memories of the group to him it is as if the illuminati never existed the depravity of a calls for whether or not taking away captain america's voice in the discussion was for the best regardless the final incursion tests the entire illuminati due to the death of the multiverse only mr fantastic and black panther survive mr fantastic even tries to save his family but to no avail the incursion is more ruthless than they could have ever imagined but there is still a place to run to dr doom creates battle world 2.0 which is formed from bits and pieces of the now destroyed universes and this is exactly where the illuminati end up not only that but it is revealed that both doctor strange and namor survive the multiverse dying however they end up facing grisly ends either way both die by dr doom's hand this grim reality is fixed though given molecule man's powers mrs fantastic restores the multiverse which also undo's all the debts incurred the illuminati has
