The Wizard of Oz * FIRST TIME WATCHING * reaction & commentary * Millennial Movie Monday

hi yes hello and welcome back to another Millennial movie Monday if you're new here my name is Ashley and if you're a returner welcome back I'm Millennial likes to go back and watch your older classic movies for the very first time I start everyone off with what I like to call a preview review which is what I think the movie is going to be about based on pop culture we watch it together edited of course because copyright and then I give you a review did I like it did I not like it did I stand the test of time and I give it stars all based on personal preference and what the hell do I know today is another one of those films that I don't know how I've gone this long without seeing it I'm gonna be really honest with you the odds of it most likely being on in the background of one of my grandparents house when I was a kid pretty likely but do I remember it no if you haven't seen the thumbnail or read the title I'm watching the 1939 The Wizard of Oz well fun fact that I hope hope it never sees is uh his mom told me that when Blake was younger he used to be scared of this movie uh I thought this was a feel-good movie so I don't really know what there is to be scared of Dorothy of course and the red slippers she goes on an adventure she meets who does she meet she meets the Cowardly Lion right and the Tin man I feel like there's somebody else I think there's she meets like three friends she has a cute little dog y'all know I love dogs uh but like I don't know who the wizard is is he nice is he helpful I was also told that this is kind of it would be a good thanksgivingy movie Thanksgiving I don't know how Thanksgiving would tie in or if it's is it actually a Thanksgiving movie or is it a gratitude movie or does it take place in Fall I don't know that's really all I got also let me show you my shirt Amityville island or what Amityville Amity Island a little Jaws moment thinking of Summer beaches while it's kind of cold in the attic I have a golden girls blanket no more ditto daily let's get right on into today's Millennial movie Monday which is the 1939 The Wizard of Oz [Music] oh my God they had this intro in 1939 that had to be like the original lion also it's beans now Judy Garland was like super beloved like she was super beloved right is this in color or is this in the SEPTA what's what what is it it's not really gray it's like a Brown Hue I don't know what the word is we dedicate this picture well honey it has clearly been around for way longer than 40 years now y'all must have done something right oh my God the little dog I don't know she's honestly please we're trying to Cone I can't count if somebody's talking to me too more little things oh but I am oh well don't just manhandle the damn chicken and now she says she's gonna get this charity I don't think we're busy the sheriff ain't gonna do none of two animals tell this lady calm down you cut my finger why don't you get your finger out of the way when you come home don't go buy Miss culture's plate then Toto won't get in her garden solution end of movie what's with Hogs Okay now what's all this jabberwocking when there's work to be done ever walking isn't that something from another movie they're going to erect the statue to me in this town and don't start posing for it now okay she is so pretty I forgot about this song oh my God I forgot this song there will never be music again made with the vibe and the feeling and the overall aesthetic of old classic Hollywood music like not to be dramatic I would die for Toto he stuck at his little paw I love him 10 out of 5 stars for Toto's acting abilities oh well she just what a fun why is she sitting upright like that that looks like an uncomfortable way to ride a bicycle is she sitting on a seat or is a seat shop somewhere you can't see my bike on my leg I no you mean she bit you sorry that was it was really funny he's really gentle with gentle people that is well I don't trust nobody that a dog don't trust oh [Music] Christian woman I can't say it go ahead say I don't think I don't think the man upstairs will be too mad about it Gabe don't always [Music] come on we've got to run away oh okay well we do we um that's a lot happening okay I admire her loyalty to Toto though I've always wanted to go to a psychic I tried once and she wasn't home no I'm wrong okay well seeing this guy tells me that I should not go see a psychic total that's not polite good Toto who cares sit inside down here that's it oh it's fine uh exciting in which Cleopatra first saw the approach of Julius Caesar that's a big claim and you had me Up Until the End reaching out into the infinite yes that's did he just the vernacular of the peasantry poor little kid I hope she gets home all right well we'll have to worry about somebody tagging along with him now oh my God I really appreciate never having tornado warnings anymore I used to get so stressed I was so scared of tornadoes we didn't really get them out here yeah sorry that call was a little dog almost like uh Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus sisters oh girl you better go you got trees getting uproot and everything where's Toto oh that poor baby I'm so scared I am very soon there goes the door I am very stressed oh go girl you're so close oh they can't hear you they can't open that door baby girl the tornado's right behind you Grandma needs you to get under the bed or something see that's why I got hit with Linda now hold on is that house actually picked up by the tornado or is this her just being knocked out you know okay so this is her just being knocked out from the window that's what they make reference to not the cow it's it's that old bitty on a bike I'm gonna be honest with you that like shaking the room and moving the bed like that for 1939 I feel like that's pretty uh advanced answer I thought that was so funny she just landed said oh I was gonna say the the it's in color but look is it color wouldn't this have been a big deal for 1939 it's so pretty where is this because this shirt at the farm what in the acid trip is that there's a bubble all right girl get it I love that for you depends on who you ask but is that the witch oh total yeah oh well that is just unfortunate well if a person kills a bad witch does it automatically make them a good witch only bad witches are ugly so she just said only bad witches are ugly but she's been asking Dorothy this whole time if she's a good witch or a bad witch does Glinda think Dorothy's ugly okay why do the munchkins remind me of the who's from when the Grinch Stole Christmas Dorothy Straight spit fire oh what a fun little outfit that man has on I'm just having the best time I have not said anything in a little bit because I am just I'm just taking it all in she's really most sincerely dead and this is like like kids watch this I just feel like this is so elaborate I have a very real question and it's because I legitimately cannot tell are these kids or are these like little people with makeup on does that make sense and I also really hope that's the right term excuse me she ain't dead girl the coroner said you were dead who are you she's worse than the other one oh well that's good so you killed the wrong bad one do we want to talk about that oh I've heard that before okay why was that so cool okay wait a second if there's a Wicked Witch of the West and East and Glinda is the Good Witch of the North do we see the Witch of the South Laura she gotta make this big old journey in heels she gonna have blisters oh yeah I forgot about the yellow brick road you have one job and that is Follow the yellow brick road oh look at that fancy footwork she done got because because Follow the yellow brick road and the yellow brick road goes four different ways where am I supposed to go get him turtle okay I believe his mouth isn't moving like that guy who was in the pig pen earlier he's a little tied up at the moment did I scare you well clearly didn't you hear her scream oh my God the crow on the Scarecrow so funny you know why why is my guys makeup is great listen you say you want a brain so you can sit and think some more but then you start overthinking and then you just spiral and it's just it's just not good for anybody I'm not afraid of a witch I'm not afraid of anything except a lighted match clever man they really got this footwork and I love that for them because big ass big guys because I wonder how hard this set was to build [Music] what do you think you're doing well I didn't like don't like this I keep forgetting I'm not in Kansas well no matter where you go you don't expect the trees to top see that's smart how you gonna say you don't have a brain that's clever oh and this is the dude who said he was gonna have a statue erected of him he said oil can oil can what okay scarecrow is the best joke so far Dorothy you better be careful he is holding an ax you don't want to move that arm too fast look at that goose in the background getting it that wasn't a goose I don't know what kind of bird that was you say you want emotions until you get them and they're not great oh was this the first person to ever do the stanky leg [Music] okay fun meanwhile they just whispered to each other and this band is dancing his little heart out oh he doesn't have one of those okay so the witch can throw Fireballs are you kidding me okay you know what the witch is actually kind of scary in this movie like if I were a child I would be very scared of her stop a mattress with me hey why did I think he was about to flip her off come on Turtle get your ass again let's go hey guys big house big house because I saw a meme one time on the internet as all truthful stories began that said in one scene of The Wizard of Oz there's like a body hanging in the background and the meme looks kind of like these woods and so now I'm like looking in the background for this really morbid fat like why would that be included in this movie okay wait a second is this movie where that saying is from for real put them up I've seen that as a gift before pulling the next homie hey why is a tin man scared of a lion Dorothy Straight Up slapped him on the nose oh my goodness of these characters to get him full makeup poor total rewind that scene and watch Toto he's by the lion and then they dance and Toad was like oh because big house big house because and if you're wondering if I'm gonna do that every time they sing this song the answer is yes okay see I haven't seen anybody hanging in the background so I I think that Meme is very fabricated you can't believe everything you read on the internet kids what is that I wish I was really good at like accents and altering my voice I'm not I can't do voices Lord Turtle kiss me over to Poppy's also me after I run for 30 seconds who are you screaming to oh Glenda the Good Witch that makes sense the lion has all four legs in the air I'm not supposed to be thinking this hard but I want to ask is there like a back story or a reason as to why the snow helped them wake up cause like the poppies are still there she was still balls deep in the poppies see this song voices just don't sound like that anymore and it just feels so good okay so everybody in this world knows about the Ruby Slipper ruby slippers you know what I want to live in the emerald Palace because that green would just make my hair pop I love it he's beautiful I love him the horse is red the horse is red I didn't think the horse was purple when I first saw it and now it's yellow look at Branson ah her with her hair down beautiful okay I kind of want one of their little green dresses that's cute palazzo's got mad as well in hand I hope I hope I was gonna say you don't really sound like you believe what you just said and I got a payment just for the occasion and you look fabulous why do I feel like there's about to be a plot twist or like a catch or something a big kick in a forest long live the king okay Mel Brooks no hold on a second why does the lion get two songs but Tin Man is scarecrow did not how'd they keep a straight face with him singing this song I simply would have lost it so is there a person with a fishing line attached to his tail that's just up in the rafters like swinging his tail around the wizard says go away just bust up in there bust up and then be like somebody pulled my jail you you have your tail in your hands friend ah the Great and Powerful okay that's kind of really cool for a brain you're okay it's fallen in this movie like that dude had to have quads of Steel by the time filming was done ashamed of yourself yeah Dorothy you might not want to talk back to the man that you're asking a favor from well then you don't have to worry about getting your things you ask for because you won't need them anymore sir where are you going what just happened she has like a whole Army of flying bunkies okay so they got Dorothy they got Toto but they're gonna leave the Scarecrow to men and lion well I guess her beef is really with Dorothy not the other ones oh my God scarecrow are you okay oh my God no go on Toto get out there well Dorothy he could have snuck out if he hadn't yelled so uh why would an hourglass be in control of how much longer she has to live girl are you upset I know you're very scared but I'm gonna need you to look for her broom because she's clearly not on it right now wow Toto is so brave I'm just so proud of him don't cry now we haven't got the oil again with us and you've been squeaking enough as it is and if you don't have a heart why are you crying like you wouldn't be able to feel emotion right was I just gonna rip the Scarecrow apart again oh they're going undercover I love that idea the tail sticking out of the uniform hilarious in Toto's like I'm just happy to be included I didn't think the ax was ever gonna come in handy this entire movie okay hold on The Hourglass is busted and Dorothy is not dead so I think I mistook The Hourglass I got The Hourglass was like a spell and when it ran out she would just die oh no oh no she really lit him on fire water was all that was little to get rid of this lady what did she do when it rained it took a singular splash of water I hope Turtle pees on it how funny would that be oh everybody wanted her dead that's so funny go away and come back tomorrow no because the Wizard's not real pay no attention to that man behind the curtains that's a reference to two and like sitcoms and stuff I am the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz you don't have to speak in the microphone anymore my guy doctor of thinkology I love that for you scarecrow congratulations I love that I think the Lion's my favorite character so okay I was gonna say what I gather from that hot air balloon ride and boom hot air balloon foreign that was a beautiful Siamese cat by the way Glenda's back welcome back girl how many times did Glenda trip going up those stairs in that big old ball gown like I miss you most of all are the scarecrow's ears drawn on I guess so I guess scarecrows don't have the Earth and just like that we're out of Technicolor the Scarecrow and the Tin Man and the lion ah well let's talk about it I love it when animals are in a movie and they give them Credit in the credits anyways okay fancy coming back you come back in if you come back in I'll take you outside you're probably hungry oh yeah you hungry you're not you're not gonna come in here what a good movie I see now it's not thanksgivingy as in the holiday but it's about being surrounded by family and being home and and loving what you got that's you beans I gotta love what I got even though that Siamese cat was very pretty and if we were in that same situation you would not have saved me like Todo de Dorothy because you're a cat and cats that's not really a personality because you're not even in here to be supportive you're in here because you're hungry also beans has been on a diet and she feels lighter but now that I'm looking at her in the camera she don't look smaller sorry that was offensive I'll feed you in a second hold on was this the first movie in Technicolor no it wasn't the gulf between I don't know oh that was made in 1917. okay so Technicolor was around for a hot second but I really love how it started in like they're not black and white what's it called the uh bat it started in that color and then when she went to find the wizard it became Technicolor I thought she died for a second but then when I realized that the Scarecrow and the Tin Man and the lion were just embodiments of the people that were on the farm from having their conversations about thinking and courage with the pigs and stuff like that oh she's just knocked out what a cute movie what a good little feel-good movie it's so cute I never saw the meme of the person hanging in the background I think that's just you know an internet thing that what did we learn here people you can't trust everything you see on the internet The Wizard of Oz absolutely still holds up today oh I thought it was great I think the Wizard of Oz is just so good and it absolutely holds up today and you know what honestly I would re-watch it I think it's a great movie 5 out of 5 Stars absolutely stands the test of time great special effects like the smoking things like how the witch disintegrates when she gets sprayed with water which very simple solution didn't it didn't really expect that to happen but it happened it works out we made it through but like the eyes the wizard head and like all the Flames I just feel like this is a great movie and absolutely holds up today like subscribe stick around uh this Friday I would say kicks off jingle beans but my Millennial movie members I gave them the option I was like you don't have to pick a holiday movie you can do whatever you want so I'm going to continue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this Friday and then we enter into the jingle
